Toxxulia is the forest that separates Erudin from Paineel. It is home to many different types of creatures, the most noticeable and prominent of which is probably the kobolds. With the Warrens so close in proximity, the Erudites of Odus are in a constant state of battle with these pesky beasts.

The Kerrans would be the other creatures of note. They have a small village in the outskirts of the forest and generally keep to themselves. Located in the western part of the continent, Toxxulia also serves as a gateway into the Buried Sea.

Our little TLP secret!

This zone is actually great for low levels and especially for PLing alts on TLP servers.

Of course it was designed as the Erudite noobie zone and in that respect it's just the usual camps of low level mobs that a noobie group can engage. But what it makes it really good is the kitty island to the west. These mobs run 12-23 or so, and are ideal prey for an appropriate group. Basically it's like a combo of Crushbone + Unrest but without the crowds, because frankly nobody wants to make the trek out to Odus and even Erudite noobs seem to head out to other fighting grounds, like CB and Unrest.

The cats are non-KOS to start which means they can be easily single-pulled. You do take faction hits which eventually make you KoS and then you'll get adds. In fact, sometimes you can get crazy adds, in ways I don't see in any other zone, other than maybe Plane of Fear. I mean mobs out of range of a fight at the start will seemingly get interested in the fight halway thru and add. This is IDEAL if you like constant pulls to your group but it's easy to get in over your head and the zone out is far away from the prime camp spots. For PL purposes, though, it's ideal, if you're using aoe tactics to maximize XP. Oh and nothing runs away at low HPs. No need to snare or root!

The aggro is actually quite odd here. Even my 60 druid can aggro low level mobs just by running past, which is usually only true for undead. Nothing's undead here. You have to see the way mobs aggro once you're KoS to "get" the fact that there appears to be a mechanism here not found in other zones. Even In Plane of Fear, I think the assist aggro just has wide range and since a lot of mobs wander, they wander "into" the assist aggro radius of an ongoing fight. Nothing wanders in this zone except for some "patrol tigers" yet cats who were supremely uninterested in a fight will suddenly notice and add in mid-fight. It's curious...

The drops aren't bad either. Even my twinked out noobie cleric acquired a couple of slots of modest loot, such as Kerran Tribal Headband, with 2Wis and 10 Mana. Given how lousy most TLP low level loot is, that's not horrible for the time being.

Once my cleric dings 20 I'm off to greener pastures but if I was part of a true noobie group of adventurers in the level 10-20 range, I'd consider making the long trek to Kerra Island in Tox. You're almost sure to have the zone to yourself and all the mobs you can handle. There are some quests from Erudin and Paineel which can be completed as well but I didn't look too much in those as I'm just a passing-thru.

PS Oh, lot of shaman mobs here so expect to be dotted both poison and disease, slowed, and more importantly rooted. I found 50 druid resist buffs do block most of these casts but not all. With unbuffed noobie resists, the puller is going to get rooted, the tank slowed, and everyone on a shaman's hit list will be dotted. Hmm... maybe there are reasons why nobody fights here LOL.

PPS Oh also there are Kerran vendors here who don't turn KoS and you can sell loot to them, after killing any nearby KOS cats. One is Melixis, up in the Lord Gonzo area. Bamboo Bokens drop fairly often and they sell for 6pp each which is pretty fine yield for a TLP server noobie area.

Toxx Stone is PoK
# Nov 05 2007 at 6:00 AM Rating: Decent
Just an FYI to the new people...as with many other stones in PoK this one is not label Toxx, it is the Paineel stone on the evil side of PoK north west corner, next to the Gunthak Stone.

Frustrating that even after many centuries these stones couldn't be properly named....tsk tsk tsk.

The PoK stones go to the newbie zones associated with them, so actually both the Paineel stone and the Erudin stone on the good side go to Toxx- the Paineel one drops you in the SW corner next to Paineel, and the Erudin one drops you in the NE near (surprise, surprise) Erudin, though both are well out of aggro range of any mobs.

As pathetic as it is, the new maps have no labels, and some of them have bad coloring which is confusing. The map to this zone is just as bad, although it says it is on the Eastern side, what it really should say is South Eastern corner.

I have to disagree with the previous message, having leveled up two Necros to lvl 10 in the Tox forest in the last month, I have to say that I haven't seen a better place to level up in the whole game. Go there at lvl 4 and fight. He is right that there are some high MoBs that can kill you, but after a brief time you get used to /con'ing what is around you, you have figured out their pathing, and you stay away from them. If you /con something, it is red and it doesn't like you ...? Breeds in a healthy caution. I was never once killed by the mobs that were mentioned. I knew they were there, I /con'ed them occasionally to see if they were getting friendlier as I leveled (they weren't) and I just didn't go close to them.

What no one is talking about is that the Tox Forest is one of the most profitable newbie spots in the game. Profitable although you can't really intentionally farm it. Just being in the Forest and killing what is around will insure that you will have a chance to whack some things that drop objects of value. One of the Necros earned 320 pp on FV and the other 650 pp on AR in a week of leveling up to lvl 10. After the first day, almost never died. I was very satisfied with my experience in the Tox Forest.

As a side note, make sure that your "Clip Plane" is set to 100% in the Tox Forest. From certain places in the Zone you can see a looong way with it set that high.

Ok, let's get a few things straight. First, Toxx was never a great newb zone... it's easy to get lost or turned around, xp is not that great, etc. I remember this well from my baby necro oh so long ago (now a 51 necro, and climbing).

I just started an erudite cleric and decded to go old school on leveling her (Toxx -> Warrens -> who knows?), and let me just say...

This zone is the most INSANE newbie zone in the game now

On the Erudin side, there's a level 45 skunk (yes, skunk) that seems to be KOS to everything. I had to bring my 59 druid over to drop it, after it killed my cleric.

Yikes, ok, so I go to the Paineel side where it's safer (ha ha), and while fighting kobolds Fittorin Bladespur (lvl 33, KOS to everybody) ganks me again. I had no chance.

I mean, come on. This is a really pathetic zone, and it's stupid becasue it means that baby erudites are really at a disadvantage unless they leave their own newbie zone, which in my mind ends up detracting from the diversity of the game, becasue everybody's in Shadeweaver/FoB and then PC and then HHK etc. etc. etc.

Shame, I think I'll just take her into the Warrens nnow that she's level 4, since I can keep her alive in there Smiley: disappointed

I don't know the loc, but starting from Erudin just head South..cross the river until you hit either the shore or a wall, just follow either one a little ways until you find the Spires.

Or if your coming from Paineel just follow the wall right for about 15 seconds. The spires will be right near the wall just a few meters past the Kobold camp.

The nexus spires in Toxx are located at approx. location –1500, -1000. Just run up to the npc standing in the middle of the spires and mumble something about wanting to journey to luclin and you should get a no-drop non-rent item to hold on to. Be warned, the spires port about every 15 mins, and sods law states that you always arrive just after the last portSmiley: snore

I was recently in Toxxulia, waiting at the spires to port to Luclin, when this new NPC aggroed me with a backstab (around 198 points if i remember correctly). Took me down to 1 bub of health quickly, luckily i had SoW up and zoned to Paineel. At level 40, this rogue conned dark blue to me. If anyone has any information regarding this new menace, please post it. I'm goning to be hunting for this jerk for some well deserved revenge.

i've had some interesting experiances with those roaming fellows. some good some bad, I've playd as an erudin wizard, enchanter, and a necro, all till about lvl 10(the time i had to leave) and i have also brought my lvl 15 DE warrior to the zone, well actually to the warrens, but i have been having trouble finding a safe way to earn faction with any body, those emisarrys keep kos'ing me and i can't get any merchents to sell to me, just wondering if anyone knows of a faction quest that i do with dubious faction. it is getting tiresome haveing to get a port every time i want to go sell, and and when the food starts to run low it can get a little hairy. any tips?

Level 30 Wizard now and still enjoy running thru Tox Forest to get spells, sell, and bank in Erudin.

I sometimes drop by Elial Brook and drop him a level 29 nuke... Instant Kill. I give Aglithin a Nuke as well when I need a fishing pole. I have never bought a fishing pole since level 12.

And we all know Runggup. If he happens to be hanging around the bridge while running back to Erudin from the Wizard spires, I give him a nuke too.

No place like home.

These caps, which drop occasionally from kobold scouts, are not quite as useless as you might think. If you hand a cap over to the abandoned pet he will give you a gemstone in return.I handed one in and got an emerald as my reward, which sold to the vendors for over 11pp..nice loot for a level 6 ;)

What's bad about it?
# Mar 21 2001 at 11:39 PM Rating: Decent
I started a dark elf and couldn't find my way around Nek Forest even with ultravision. I started an ogre and got hopelessly lost in the Ferrott. Tox isn't that bad a place, really.

You'll learn to use /loc. You'll learn to appreciate True North (Erudin is at the far north of the zone). You'll learn to use Sense Summoned (Jalen Goldsinger stands outside a caster supply hut where you can buy and sell with amiable faction...the merchant sells tiny daggers and malachite, as well as some research tools.

The pixies drop a good bit of money and some lower level research pages, runes, and words, so it's a good place to spend some time when you come back for your level 16 spells.

The library is great; Erudin is the easiest city I've been in as far as navigating goes. No accidentally running into the "seedy" part of town or falling out of the city altogether.

The two kobald camps are also great experience for levels 5-7; you can solo a camp easily, and kill passing skeletons or briar snakes for a bigger experience boost from time to time. The kobalds drop bags, boxes, minor gems, and alcohol, so it's a decent moneymaker as well.

By level 7 or 8, you can move over to Erud's Crossing and kill snakes, moving up to bats and then willowisps. The loot on all these is really good for the level, and it's a nice tight concentration of mobs to kill. Erudites start out with amiable (Quellious) or warmly (Prexus) faction, depending on religion, so the cats will buy your loot for a fair sum.

Before the Paineel zone was implemented, evil Erudites had to slum it by using that hut as their guild hall. When the trainers moved into their new digs, they left the bones behind.

That hut is not a bad solo spot for your 'advanced newbie' cleric or paladin.

No, the pets do not have a faction associated with them. (They will, in fact, consider 'indifferently' to you regardless of your race or class, as all NPC pets will, regardless of your faction with the pet's master. Until you start attacking, that is...)

And I don't think they can be used for the cap quest. I'm pretty sure that quest only works with the skeletons right next to the Paineel zone. They are also 'indifferent' /cons.
It's not that bad here...
# Mar 13 2001 at 3:04 AM Rating: Default
by Jota lvl 7;
I started a Maginician in Erudin and after learning to use /loc - all went well. I can't figure-out why so many people hate the Toxx forest, but I went from lvl 1 to lvl 7 in about 14hrs of play. (If that sucks, then I am "all wet?) The spell selection here is great, and the bone chip quest makes some good $ in a hurry (and it's repeatable). Only cross the bridge to the south section after lvl 6 or the kobold gangs will be too difficult for most classes. Erudin is an easy city to navigate in (provided you have seen the maps) - so hopefully some of you will agree that "it not that bad here!" Make your fortune off of decayed skeletons as a newb, and you'll be spanking kobold shammies in no time!

For erudite necros, the heretic pets are a GREAT source of experience. Solo you shouldn't attack a pet until 8th level. At 8th a necro can now cast "Bone Walk", the first strong skeletal pet. Also, the necro will be able to strike the heretic pet with "Ward Undead", an excellent direct damage vs. undead spell. Groups can approach the heretic pets sooner but be prepared to lose a pet summoned with "Leering Corpse".

Heretic pets do not give great loot. You will always gain a rusty mining pick worth 9 copper. Quite often you will bone chips. Every 4th or 5th heretic pet will be wielding a different weapon that may be of slightly more value. (I have looted a rusty halberd once.) Yet, loot isn't the reason for killing these. Excellent XP with no faction hit and a guaranteed spawn every 6 or 7 minutes helps. In a forest with little of worth, these will give you levels quick.
