The Crystal Caverns are the site of Froststone, once home to the Coldain. Although the citizens of Froststone still have a small outpost in these caverns, the area is largely controlled by the Ry`Gorr Clan. Adventurers must also beware of the tentacle terrors and crystal spiders which have made homes out of the abandoned halls.

I remember hanging out down here with my first toon on ZEK pvp server. I ran the zone for about two months farming plat and gems. Great Memories.

Miss this place

I miss this place! Farming the Geo's was great way to earn cash & XP. I haven't been there since 2004, but after listening to the music for this zone, I had to come and look at all the nostalgia pics & posts.

I've never been to CC, not even "back in the day." I was planning to take my 25 Magician there so I checked here to get the skinny on the zone.

If the zone is tagged as 35-40, why is a hot zone for Lvl 25-30? From the posts I've read it seems that the zone can be a bit dangerous (which is fine), but I'm just a bit confused as to how someone is to solo the zone if all the mobs an average of 5 levels higher than s/he.

I suppose I'll just have to check it out myself. Any pointers are welcome. Again, 25 Magician with fair gear and a cleric merc.

Peace.

The zone actually isn't bad at all for 25+. I actually use this zone a lot when trying to level my characters quickly. Today I was powerleveling my beastlord with train pulls and wound up getting 20-38 in a little more than an hour. It can be a little difficult on the lower levels with the stalags, spiders, and geonids, but what is nice is that if you run into trouble while trying to solo here, you can run to the little coldain town in the middle of the zone and just have the guards kill what is killing you. All in all, until about 28 or so, I would recommend to stick with the orcs and then move down, being the other mobs can hit for in the 70s and 80s, especially if you encounter the names.

I have had no problem soloing (with merc) this zone starting at 20, could probably do it without the merc... All the mobs comming in the door are DB by 29, and if you can snare or root than there is not much to worry about as far as adds... its once you go a bit deeper that you start to run into trouble, but by 30 you should have no real trouble at all...

I know this is an old post but in case anyone else reads this. XP in CC slows down, hotzone or not around 45. Even more if your in a group. The Hole is always an option reguardless of hotzone or not. Also Crypt of Nardox if you have the gear to mow them down solo. Wish I could be more help.

Hotzone
# Apr 19 2007 at 3:28 PM Rating: Decent
This zone is great exp without the Hotzone bonus with it it should rock. The zone in is found in a shed in the Rygorr orc fort in EW. I think the /loc for the entrance is -4000 0 but it might be the other way around it is right near the center of EW.

Bear - Unfortunately youd get owned here solo at that level - you could zone in and pick them off 1 by 1 along the top level but once you get in far enough....well.... have you ever poured water on a ant hill??

same effect in the caverns

It was a hot spot up until a few months ago, and Geonids are still one of the best cash camps for lower-level toons.

very good but........

THIS ZONE is cool not my favorite died alot with my magician. but the thing is its kinda hard to get to so some of your buffs may where off so my tip is to buy those mana potions in POK in one of the rooms near fishing place. defently have a inviz or have an inviz potion because going threw the orc fort on your way in can be hard with orcs pounding on your back. so all in all its a good zone plan on killing lots of orcs in there so the dwarfs will sell to you. they also have a bank but you will have to get faction to sell to them. trust me it helps
Smithing
# Jul 25 2005 at 1:22 PM Rating: Decent
This zone is also very awesome for Blacksmithing. The velium can help make the wepons you need and can help bring up your Blacksmithing fast if you stay with Recipies that are in the blue. =)

Just to let all know, I solo'd a ranger(yes a ranger) from level 30 to 51 here. I am getting ready to head back with a level 27 cleric duo'd with a level 33 beastlord. I know that I will make a killing. Start your way at the top, with root ready and work your way down...

Simple.
stay away.
# May 20 2004 at 6:16 AM Rating: Default
uh... yeah this zone er uh... sucks so all you people stay out of it. Yeah, that is it... it is sucky and you don't need to go down there and make 200pp and hour killing geonids or anything. Yeah uh.. you will die.
stay away.
# Apr 22 2007 at 4:15 AM Rating: Decent
ACtually this place is friggin easy, I have never died here. And I made almost 1kpp an hour on Geonids. I think you are just trying to scare people away
stay away.

Here's some information from my experiences in the depths of Crystal Caverns...
I came here about a year ago looking for some adventure with my 30 druid. And adventure I found. This zone was GREAT exp and it was super fun. That was back in the days of KEI buffs so it made it much easier. There was also exploit spots I would use where the mobs would just stand there and look at me as long as I was out of swinging range so I was free to AoE and DoT them then sit down and med while they slowly rotted before my very eyes for about half a blue a kill during the first half of the 30's. I leveled all the way to 39 here and could have gone further, killing Geos with a partner but found they were camped too much.
During my time here I looted more velium then I knew what to do with... ok I did know what to do with it: put it in a trader satchel, and put some price tags on it. 100pp blocks, 80pp large, 60pp, small, and 15-25pp pieces(which stack).
Because there is a bank at the bottom of the zone you can loot all the heavy velium you want til you are bursting at the seams then run down there and put it all away. I must have made 10kpp in my time here from loots, velium weapons, and selling velium.

I recently returned with a 51 rogue and later a 56 Shaman to learn not much has changed. Velium is still a hot item in the bazaar so raping CC of every last piece is still a great money maker. Also, one exploit spot remains unfixxed so in an emergency you could run there and rest up a moment without losing your half beaten mob and all your exp and more importantly a piece of velium. (No I am not gonna tell you where the spot is, that would be cheating =), I will tell you it is before the first ice bridge).

Hope some or all of this info helps you decide to make Crystal Caverns a place of interest. Most of the time there are only a handful of people here and oftentimes a couple of them will be Velium harvesters... but even with them the exp is well worth it and you learn to work around them.

Hope to see you in CC soon.

You'll have to hoof it somewhat. PoK into The Great Divide, travel east to zone into the Eastern Wastes. The way into Crystal Cavs lies in the Ry'Gorr Orc fort. I believe the orcs will agro anything that walks by, no matter the level, so just enter thru the front gate of their fort and walk to the opposite side, there is a small building with bars for a door that can be opened. Walk in and there is a snowball on a pedestal, click the snowball and TADA! you're in CC. There is a bank at the bottom of CC for all your weight loss needs.

Can a 35 shaman solo in here or would i be better served to do the old OT group thing.
Farming
# Dec 22 2003 at 10:42 AM Rating: Good
I pose a question. Where in the world can I drag my 35 Enchanter for some decent XP, solo or with group that isn't already camped to hell? I'm bored with PC->LOIO->OT->DL It's overflowing in stupidity and it's boring. Beyond that, I've been to several areas which used to be great levelling zones.... No more; they're buried in farmers. CC seems to be camped with a waiting list from 8AM on. Forget Mistmoore, if you can get the graveyard away from small high level raids after easy drops, you're doing well until they train half the house onto you because they don't feel like killing those greenies. Then just try getting back your spot if you happen to die.... Someone's already set up camp right on top of your corpse. I'm tired of going to mid level zones, seeing 5 level 65 characters and knowing the whole zone is worthless to me now.
What I'm getting at is more than "where do I go" it's more what can I do about this? Why is it that cash farming always takes precednce over what these places were designed for? The only reason the standard Paludal and on track is not populated with farmers is that there's very little to be had in those places.... Is there any way to make EQ fun again while avoiding the elementary school idiots who follow the beaten path and wind up at 50 without a clue?
Bugged
# Dec 01 2003 at 4:51 AM Rating: Decent
IMHO, this zone is bugged. The mobs near the EW zone-in keep falling of ledges and agroing every mob below them, causing massive trains wiping nearly everyone on that side of the dungeon. I saw it happen 6 times tonight to different groups.

I went soloing in pretty deep, very cautious about snaring to prevent mobs from falling. Unfortunately one eventually did fall, and trained the rest of the dungeon on me.
RE: Bugged
# Feb 16 2004 at 3:59 PM Rating: Decent
I pull the Ry'gor away from the pit - it is no a bug -- It was designed that way -- and if one Drops- zone -- dont say - must have poofed -- No. You are going to poof to POK and/or your bind point.. and just a suggestion but have your cleric bind at the entrance in EW.. I love the zone in Malen Sharype Server never seen more than 7 people and the usual is around 5 with 2 orc camps
