Home to the Kromrif and Kromzek of Velious, it is here you will find the leader of the storm giants, King Tormax. You'll have to prove your dedication to the giants of Kael before you'll be allowed to set foot in the city to make use of the city's bankers and vendors.

Beware of what lies beyond the arena. Even the most dedicated followers of the Kromzek cannot enter the temple of Rallos Zek. It is regarded by the giants of Kael as sacred ground and trespassers will be met with much resistance. The Avatar of War itself has been known to appear to those daring enough to explore the temple, and the result is typically disaster...

Let me know what it cons to your level.

High Priest of Vallon Zek - lightblue to level 59-60 (a cleric of vallon zek is dark blue to 60) so slightly lower level.

Spawns in the house at the arena at about +1200 +1500 -56

Didn't drop anything when I killed him

Your faction standing with Kromzek could not possibly get any worse. (not sure but would think -10 like the others)
Your faction standing with Kromrif has been adjusted by -2
Your faction standing with King Tormax has been adjusted by -2
Your faction standing with Claws of Veeshan has been adjusted by 5

This is still a level 30-60 zone.
Pathing is bad, I mean really bad, its probably one of the worst zones Iv seen.
XP is really really slow
Giants have a lot of hitpoints, they buff themselves with SoW and Speed, and they hit hard.
Loot is crap.
Naaa... This zone is definitely a waste of time, sorry.

if you think the pathing is bad in Kael Drakkel, then you definetly have NOT seen bad pathing in EverQuest. It is fairly predictible, with a few execptions.

bad pathing can work to a kiter's advantage, but lots of stuff summons in here. However, my necro would tap-tank to grind AA xp here once upon a time. So it depends what level you are trying to get use out of the zone.

This zone was upper-end of the third expansion... that's a long, long time ago. It was also vital to doing the group and raid-game content that was above it (and not much was above King Tormax, Vindi and Avatar of War). 3/4 of the drops in the zone are armor or other quest related. Cash drops are decent in the form of the heavy weapons and some of the best non-attunable tradable gear in the game drops here. Helms and toes are for quest turn ins, hence the reason they drop so much.

The faction hits provided in here can still be useful to questers (especially since they updated the Coldain Prayer Shawl quest in a more recent expansion --Underfoot I believe?). The low level giants were put in to give lower level types access to the faction hits vs. speedy XP. Speedy XP wasn't really part of the game design back then either...

It was a decent hotzone (when it was flagged such) as you could pile on the AA xp pretty good. This was about when the Mayong server experiment was tried (start at level 51) and Kael was busy all the time... 20-40 people for several months. This totally changes the way the zone feels (when other camps are down and roamers aren't getting across the zone on their wanderings).

I'll agree as a modern XP grind zone this isn't the place to go... once they put The Serpent's Spine expac out there really isn't much that compares to go 1-70 speedily by yourself in a tight zone chain outside of the hotzones (which sometimes are duds for a given level range).

After reading your post, I couldn't help but notice this when I was in there last night. On the zone in loading screen it says Kael Drakkal, but when you first enter it says that you have entered Kael Drakkel. I know it's not that important, just probably been a typo for years. On the map in Eastern Wastes it states Drakkal. Anyway, I had fun killing the giants. =)

Up on drops in arena?
# Sep 15 2003 at 8:51 AM Rating: Good
Just wondering if anyone else has seen a increase of rates of drops in and around the arena area. Yesterday in about 2 hours we got...

1 chain BP
1 chain gloves
1 plate gloves
1 plate arms
1 SBoC
1 leather bracer
1 leather sleeve
1 Black Blade of Tormenting

and of course the usual heads, toes and stuff.

Was this just an exceptional day?

Nope. As a matter of fact, we killed everything around the arena for about 4 hours yesterday and didnt get 1 armor drop. I would say you are the proud recipient of a freak streak of the RNG (random number generator).

Pulling the Arena
# Sep 04 2003 at 5:31 PM Rating: Decent
My guild raids here every Thursday. Recently I have leveled my warrior up to 59, making me the main tank. I was wondering if anyone had any info on pulling the Kael arena. We usually have a monk to do it, be he is unable to make it tonight. Stuff I need to know is:

-Aggro radius
-What not to pull
-Where to pull from
-ETC.

Thanks in advance for the help :)

I am the puller for my guild when we go to Arena, monks arent really neciasiary here.

The see invis line mobs can be pacified by a mid 50's cleric or bard, and they are pretty weak so it doesn't matter too much if you get an add here. Once you move further up to the troopers, veterans, etc, you can single pull most of the time. Only time I got adds were from roamers, make sure to have any roamers away from the monster you pull.

There are a few places you can pull to. One of them is the corners SW and SE of the actuall arena. There is only 1 spawn here and accasionaly a roamer. The best place though, would the the corner right in front of you when you go up one of the ramps. Here there are no mobs that can agroe you if you are all packed together.

Unless you have a high level pacifier, you should stay away from pulling is the named at the far north end. He has 2 clerics next to him who are almost impossible to pull apart from him. He doesnt drop good loot anyways. Also the protectors of zek inside the building of arena cant be single pulled, so stay away from them to.

I havent had a problem with agroe radius...its pretty big compared to other raid places, but you have plenty of room to work with in this place.

As a side not, make sure to kill healers first. It can be anoying when you fighting a mob many times over because of a CH or 2.
Question
# Sep 02 2003 at 5:52 PM Rating: Decent
I have some questions and I appreciate anyone taking the time to help me out. I'm unsure of what people are referring to when they say "Plate House". Is this the throne room? The throne room is where you do this cycle everyone is talking about right? Now the purpose of doing that only plate drops during this and lots of it? Is this the same stuff that drops in the arena and courtyard? If it is then I'm guessing the only benefit of doing this is that it drops more and you know what you're getting? I'm not sure of this and I'd appreciate anyones help with me learning this zone. Thanks
RE: Question
# Sep 11 2003 at 10:15 AM Rating: Decent
I assume the "plate house" is what we call the Ice House (EQ Atlas #11). The cycle in the Ice House is nice (if you're looking for plate), because the spawns are pretty fast, the giants aren't that hard to kill (though the last guy is pretty tough), and the drops are more frequent than around the arena. It's also a dead end, so you don't have to worry much about wanderers or trains.

Aye, one good group CAN do it but it helps to have a bunch of people to make it quicker. My guild raids Kael often with forces of usually around 20 low to mid level 50's and we can handle it pretty well.

For those hunting here to do the Thurg Quest armors... you may find this helpful.

Quest armor storyline

Unzip the file and put the "storyRgxthurg.txt" file and the "thugystuff" folder into the storyline folder which is located in the main Everquest folder. When you log you can then click the story window and the title story "Thurg Quest Armor info" to view the armor and gem drops needed plus the location of the quest givers in Thurgadin.

Hope this helps some people. Good luck.

**EDIT**
Added the armor stats to the storyline so you can see if the armor is an upgrade for you or not. Plus just helps out anyone MQing or running a raid here.

Faction Raising
# Jan 31 2003 at 1:45 PM Rating: Decent
Just some info on how to raise Kromzek Faction:
Best way to easily raise Zek faction is to kill the Major Dragons in Velious ie. The keeper and her shrine guards. Also Woushi and WW named dragons. Set up shop in SS and kill everything on the first floor, rinse and repeat will help. Keeper is a 1 faction level hit at least. EoS and other named on CoV faction in ToV helps.
The real problem is raising Rif and King faction. Killing Dain and Yel will give you the biggest King faction hits. You can also kill dwarves, dwarf factioned wolves, and royal guards in Ice Keep to help with the non zek factions. (Since ruining Thurg faction wasn't an option for me it is tremendously hard task)
There are at least 3 giants near Quest Givers that are not on Zek faction. You can invis back to these NPC if you are ally to Zek and hug the wall in the thrown room. Very Important: DO Not drag corpses. This is huge aggro if a non Zek faction is in the room. See Instant Death! Do not rez near one either. There is also a giant under the frost bridge that can see thru invis and is not on zek faction. He will kill you if he is near the bridge when you cross. Corpse recovery is very difficult since you CANNOT summon corpses in KD. 30 minutes of monk work to get your corpse back from the throne room and one pissed off guild monk!

I have tried this several times and have yet to get the plate cycle to work. I was told that you clear the throne room then say "The Dain must be slain for the piece we must obtain". Is that the correct phrase? Also Sometimes the 3 on the throne are not there. Does that mean that someone screwed up and would i have to wait for the full room to pop before starting to clear?
RE: Manor
# Jan 16 2003 at 10:56 AM Rating: Excellent
I have done the Plate House Cycle a few times with my guild. As the raid leader, I have found this way to do it is the easiest.

We started each cycle with at least 3 well balanced groups. Groups one and two had a decent MA quality tank, and one cleric per group at least. Group 2 only would assist the SA. All other groups would assist the MA.

#1. Obviously clear the room of all giants.

#2. The correct phrase is "The dain must be slain, for the peace we shall obtain".

Here is where Doldigun spawns on the "throne". Attacking him starts the "cycle". Initially 2 giants come. Group 2 would take one giant. All other groups would assist the MA on the other.

When each giant dies, another one comes immediately upon death of a giant. These giants that come progressively become more difficult in level. The only derivation of an immediate giant "add" coming upon a death of a giant is when you get the final giant (around a lvl 60). This giant will not come until all other giants in the cycle have been eliminated. Obviously the MA's giant would go down first, and all groups assisting the MA would take the next giant.

When G2's giant drops, G2 proceeds to take on the 2nd giant. What I have found is, usually by the time G2's 2nd giant is dead, the rest of the groups have killed all the other giant "waves", leaving all groups to take on the "Boss" giant together.

When the final giant dies, Doldigun "runs" away. Killing him is a cakewalk if you can complete the plate cycle, and his head is for the 9th Coldain ring quest.

If we had enough groups, we could usually get in 2 plate cycles before having to reclear the room of its spawns, as the cycle can be restarted immediately after it is completed.

Agreed. Level 31 is too low to hunt in Kael. The only time I ever got the corroded chain for my rogue was on full blown raids in the Arena. In 3 raids only 2 chain peices ever dropped and I got 1 of them.

Wait until you are 45. Get about 4 groups of avg level 50 with healers and chanters. Then fight your way into the Arena in Kael. I find that cloth and plate are more commonly dropped than chain. But that just may be luck of the draw.

RE: stupid tidbit

LOL! Just a note, all non-gaters should carry a port potion of some sort on them just in case. You never know when your porter will go perma-LD, or will say "Yawn, I'm tired, time for bed" and gate out, leaving you deep in the bowels of Cazic-Thule.

Of course, the fact that I'm a Shaman has NOTHING to do with me offering this very good advice Smiley: jester

If your Coldain faction is decent, there's always the Thurgadin gate potion too...
Wipeout at Gleed Dragonhunter
# Oct 21 2002 at 8:04 AM Rating: Decent
OK have to post this as none of the Gleed Dragonhunter killers ever posted this.

We went to go kill Gleed and had a 3 group raid force that was there to do Plate cycle since KD was uncamped except for us at the time we desided to go kill Gleed and grab his bow - It was no problem getting thru to him at all. Killed all the easy giants on the way without a hicup and cleared a few by the see invis line.

Walked the shelf with the dogs on the right side drop off and then killed the 3 blue guards in the way and the undercon green guard jus in front of Gleed. When we pulled Dragonhunter - sure enough we weren't able to split him and his dog - no problem - we had 3 full groups 2 mobs = no problem.

THEN about 1 minute into the fight EVERY DOG from that island rushed us. I mean they WERE WAY WAY WAY out of our aggro area. I mean it was as if getting off of Orc lift in Gfay aggroed the orcs from Orc hill down to Kelethin. That is how far we were from the dogs. regardless - 4 to 5 dogs showed up from no where and wiped us out - only one group got off an evac.

The bottom line is either:
- someone trained us: didn't happen - I happened to be meleeing facing the archway and saw all of the dogs arrive and start smoking folks -sitters first. I saw no rogue element leading them and they are hardly from a main pathway.
- there is a relation ship between his dogs and that pack of dogs in that kennel island thing.
- this could be a new scripted event (doubtful) - but it is surprising NO ONE reported this before.

If you have never killed him before be carefull here. It might behoove your force to wipe the dogs out on your way to prevent the surprise we received.
