These are not too hard to get with a decent group in the 40's. The quest is a little time-consuming but very worth it for leather-wearing classes.
HOW TO: Either buy or get a blood wolf harness in the Great Divide. BW is tougher than his bretheren so if you have a tough time with the normal dire wolves, bring friends.
Second, forget Dracnia in Crystal Caverns. Kill a few dozen orcs there instead and eventually you will get a bottle of Karsin Acid (no drop/lore). You can take this into the turn-in guy in thurgadin (in the bar). Hand him the bottle and he will drop a gem of persuasion into your inventory. No faction hit for doing this.
Third, give the BW harness and gem to Vorhees in the coldain hut just off from the velium river south of the southern entrance to the wurm caves. You get the control harness.
Fourth, get your group together and have them get ready to go to the entrance to the GD giant fort (the one facing the POK book and spires). Then the fun begins.
Fifth is turning in the control harness to brood mother. This can be a little tricky as some of the elder and ancient shardwurms see through invis and cammo. I found that going high up on the side walls to skirt the wurms often worked. They have a low aggro-radius so you either get around or get hit and run back out of the caves. They wont follow very far. Camp to clear aggro and try again.
The easiest way to find the Broodmother for the hand-in is to go in the northern entrance (near Thurg). Take the first left and when you come to the first fork she is in the cavern straight in front of you. She is flanked in a closer cavern by two guardian shard wurms. The guardians do not see through invis and BM will not aggro you.
At this point yell at your friends to get over to the fort. Uninvis, hand BM the harness and she will slowly march off to the giant fort. Takes anywhere fomr 2-5 minutes as she sometimes wanders.
In the meantime, invis up and just run straight back out the way you came. You may get popped by a wurm, but just keep running because (again) they will not follow you far. Get to the fort to help your group.
THE FORT/Battle: Grakl and Fergul the giants will respawn inside the fort and saunter out front to the gate. If you are looking at the gate from the outside, they will turn on the outside wall and take up a position just off the corner of the fort closest to the wurm caves. Grakl is in gold and Fergul is in silver.
What will happen is that the brood mother will come up and start a fight with Grakl. Fergul will take off running toward the EW zone. He is the one you need to kill to get the legs, but if you attack him before he starts to run the leggings do not drop. His path is straight along the fort wall toward the EW zone. If your group sits at the opposite corner from where the giants stopped you will have an easy attack point.
Can be a tough fight and watch out for adds, but lots of fun. Remember not to attack Fergul till he runs AFTER the wurm attacks grakl. Enjoy your new pants :)

Posted:Feb 07 2003 at 12:31 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Today, Febuary something.. I did the Kromrif quest as a 39 ranger.. I had some friends help of course.. These are my friends that helped. a lvl 63 rogue, a 50 ranger, a 55 pally and me of course.. We killed Fergul SOOOOO FAST!!! It wasnt even funny.. my 50 ranger friend who had done the quest told us all to use taunt.. He was right.. We had that punk looking at all of us soo fast he couldnt even get off a hit on any of us... We all finished the quest with 100% health... Got my leggs... PIECE OF CAKE! Cant wait to have those guys help me with my epic =P
How feasible would it be to have one party clear the fort (except the 2 named numbskull giants) while the questor runs to turn in the harness to the BM? My logic is that this would prevent having millions of adds when the 5 minute fight begins. So after the BM gets to the fort and proceeds to hand Grakel his ***, someone could drag Frostsky somewhere safer by his beard so the rest of the group could jump in and slaughter him... Anyone see where I'm going with this? More importantly, does anyone see this working?
I've not done this quest but it's buddy the Coldain Military Wristgaurd. Same scenario, the final turn in is to BM who goes south of giant fort to cave where 2 dwarfs pop outside and one makes a break for it.
Now if this quest is anything like the wristgaurd (which it sounds like it is) the giants will pop OUTSIDE the fort, so you don't have to worry about the guys inside, then just pull Frostsky to zone edge or what not.
For the wristguard the dwarfs are normally deep in the cave, but when turn in to BM occurs the show up outside then the dwarf with the wristguard re-pops when the BM get's there and engages in fight.
So maybe it's possible have cleared the fort then when turn in to BM occurs still get them to pop outside. (ie, a triggered spawn)
Good luck, Aalaria Xe'Losiba 57 DE necro Tarew Marr
While I have never helped with this quest, I have owned this camp before. With my 57th necro I can do the entire fort solo. And can single pull anything. So it shouldn't be hard to clear it and keep it clear for this quest if you have a high lvl or 2 on your side.
hehe :) That would be Fergul Frostsky. You probably unknowingly KS'd him after someone started up the quest. (without feeding the Broodmother the harness, Fergul doesn't drop the legs)
Myself (53 Shaman) and a 45 Ranger, 45 Monk (well equipped) did this quest yesterday. I had the Ranger track everthing and make sure it was all in order before we began, then I left Ranger and Monk at entrance to fort to watch and make sure no one bothered the spawn. We did this during the middle of the day CST and I spent 5 minutes ahead of time spamming the zone with /ooc about what I was going to do and what the zone should NOT do (this is more key than anything else). When all was ready I invised and wandered into the Cave.
I had never been in the cave before and most of the wurms near the entrance were lite blue to me. I had no map (Get one from EQAtlas when you do it) and just turned down the first side passage I came to. Now I noticed it get unusually dark (being a Barbarian Shaman with limited dark vision) but I could just make out the tunnel walls and the looming dark blue mobs that were in abundance. I tried one room and only found a static spawn of 4 blue non named mobs, then down another passage (my heart beating now hoping invis holds) and another room with a static non named until finally I see the BM at the back of a cavern with two blues near the entrance. I moved behind her next to the wall and handed in the item invis, she took it and started walking away and I hit invis and took off running for the exit. Just my luck I got turned about in the dark and ended up in a dead end with my heart in my throat thinking invis would drop, I would have to gate out(bound in Firepot room), or just die. Luck was with me and I made it out then turned the wrong way and started running towards Thurg instead of to Fort (I was a bit excited), came to my senses and ran to the fort spamming my partners to not attack until I say so and to the zone to not agro or bother the BM or go near the fort (this is very important).
The two giants walk outside the fort and stand to the side and wait for the BM, I got there just as she walked up and poked the one giant with her toothy maw and Fergul took off running. I spammed "GET HIM NOW" to my crew and they aggroed him right next to the BM, I cast Slow and he came after me so I led him to the side where we felt a little safer (kind of scary fighting next to the BM) it was an enjoyable fight. The Ranger and Monk did massive DPS and I slapped a few heals on them, rooted an add, and re-hasted. Took about 5 minutes to drop him, he has a good amount of HPs and I did not dot (wanted to save mana for heals and slows). When he fell we all let out a woot and I let out a double woot when I saw the legs, quest done perfectly thanks to the below step by step guide.
Thanks to Xatrik and Zendiil for being my tanks. If you are on Xegony and want some help doing your legs, look me up, I will help you out.

Posted:Oct 01 2002 at 7:34 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) seems like an awful lot of work for something so crappy. hell, if you want the STR, just get some validus custodus legs, they're just as good
If I want strength, it's so that I can carry stuff. VC plate legs have neg 0.5 to cargo capacity (str 6, wt 6.5). And I can't wear them anyway. Not everyone is a plate class, but even if they were, VC plate greaves are crap. Neg agility, neg cargo capacity, one less ac. No comparison.
These legs have plus 2 cargo capacity, and 14 ac. For an all/all item, that's not crap. Plus, for the folks who can wear leather or plate (so that the 14 ac isn't so impressive), there's the wis.
The krom leg quest can be done very easily if you follow these easy steps (I did it this way):
1. Find Erdarf, he is in the bar next to the glowing eyed coldain statue in thurg. 2. Hail him and see if your faction is good enough. I did 4 shawls and numerous kael raid (conned indiff) and it still wasnt good enough. I hunted giants and wolves and became kindly very quickly and he gave the quest. 3. After he gives you the quest go kill the queen first and get her sceptre, she breaks root fast so have a tank. Then return the sceptre to him and get the gem. 4. Get the blood wolf harness and along with the gem give them to the hunter at the bottom middle of Gd along the river in a tent and get the harness of control. 5. Heres the tricky part, and the possible bug. MAKE SURE ALL MOBS ARE UP. These include the broodmother, and both named giants in the fort, and make sure they are inside the fort and not anywhere else. 6. Once you see that they are all up bind outside the giant for if you can or have a group or friend wait there and watch the giants. People will try to steal your mob if they know he has the legs. 7. Invis until you reach the broodmothers cave, go behind her, uninvis, and give her the harness, now gate or run back to the giant fort and dont aggro other wurms. 8. Once at the fort the giants will look like they are leaving but they arent, you will also notice two of each giant. Two stay in the fort, ignore them, and two walk outside, the one outside is the one you want. Keep frugal targeted. 9. When the broodmother arrives and frugal begins to run attack and kill him. MAKE SURE YOU WAIT UNTIL THE BM GETS THERE AND WAIT UNTIL HE RUNS BEFORE YOU ENGAGE. Kill him, and only him first and loot the legs.
Its that simple but beware he is a tough mob, as a 48 dru with c3 he still took 10 minutes to kite. He has a lot of hps compared to other frost giants that coned the same to me. And be sure to listen to what I mentioned in caps. If you attack at the wrong time the legs wil not drop also the mobs dont spawn just because you are doing the quest.
I just did the quest today & had your walkthrough printed out beside me. It worked really well all except that the Fergul that the legs dropped off of was the one that was inside the fort. The 2 of them were very far apart at the time so there wasn't much of a chance for me to get confused about it. Other than that it was great. Thanks
Did it today. Pretty simple quest, but still a little buggy. Had with me a 54 and 58 Wiz, and a 43 Ranger. I'm a 50 cleric. Went into the cave invised but after I handed in the piece to the BM, I ran to the entrance, got aggro from the other mobs and had to cast DB on myself. I began to train the other wurms to Thurg (I was SoWed of course), but eveentually lost aggro. Here's the goofy part: 3 giants popped, two of which were Frostsky. One Frostsky had the leggins, however, so all was well.
Well just to add further insult to injury, we go back and rez corpses to find BM back on her spot. Call to leave her alone, someone shouts shes chasing someone across the zone, and then next thing, no longer on track. Well, guess i will have to do this Again then another day. Prolly to find the same crap :(
Pumkinturner Nightingale 56th Season cleric of Brell
Well what can i say? Did turn in to BM, got her to the fort with nobody trying to KS her. Called mission quite clearly before starting- ie dont KS BM, and stay outa way of named giants about to pop at fort. Bang group agros mob-BM dont wana kill them, my 56 cleric and 52 ranger friend wiped out in confusion -Fergul de-pops no legs. I do wish people would watch what was being called. Guess i will have to try again another, such a waste for a simple quest to be screwed :(
Same thing happened with me on Friday night. I (43 druid at the time) had with me a 53 SK, 54 mage, and 43 SK. Saw BM on track, headed to the wurm caves and the 53 SK /shouted "we're trying for the leggings quest, stay clear of the giants!" After I handed BM the harness, I re-camoed myself and followed her. Was a good 5 minutes or so before she got to the fort, and she killed Gralk, but Fergul wasn't up. Some group trained him because they weren't paying attention. >:( So, no legs for me. Also, I petitioned and the guide said *maybe* they could give me back the harness.. sigh.

Did everything correctly and Fergul spawns with Grakel. Killed Fergul before broodmother got to fort and he didn't drop any legs. Are you suppose to wait for BM to kill Grakel first? Also after we killed another Fergul spawned and we killed him and still no legs, not exactly sure went wrong.
after you hand the broodmother the harness, cast camp on yourself and follow her til she is out of the wurm cave. I know some wurms see through invis, but most do not. I have helped with this quest 3 times and all 3 times we did it that way. It just helps to keep the other wurms from aggro on you.
What ive experienced is, that when you get aggroed in the cave, if you just keep on running, and let the wurm follow you, it will pop because the pathing is really mezzed up in there, and the mobs will start running up into the walls and eider pop, or completely loose aggro. I turned the item in to BM, invis'd my self and ran out, waited for her to come out the cave and followed her like a little puppy, when we got the the fort she started doing her buiness, and i snared/rooted/dod's the other npc with winged dead't ES arms. a few mins later BM wanderes to the npc im attacking and just stand's there, i went to see what was going on, and she had become his pet, only attacking me when i was in melee range of my target. After my npc was dead BM pop'd and i could loot the legs, i was 54 Druid at that point.
Did the quest recently, and the only hitch I had was someone trying to KS the BM from me, even after repeatedly shouting to leave her alone, as the quest was in progress. Had a little group waiting to kill Fergul while the BM followed me, and many spectators. For the most part, everyone respected my request to leave her alone, but the person trying to take her from me kept saying she would give him great exp. Jerk. He finally backed off, but made a bunch of us angry he was persistent to take her even after I had shouted not to several times.
Everything was pretty straight foward with one hitch, kept getting aggroed from the ancient shardworms. I was almost dead when I finaly got to fort to help group out. So, I owe my group big! I got pretty lucky the broodmother popped within 3 or so hours of camping her, and both giants were up. 1. Turn harness in to broodmother. 2. She walks to fort as the giants come out. 3. Giants despawn the new ones spawn. 4. Broodmother attacks grakl. 5. Fergul runs, snare/kill. 6. Brand-new leather pants. Thanks everyone for posting here, the imformation is very accurate. BTW Very nice Ranger item.
Did this quest last night, Not bugged at all anymore, Vores, Broodmother were up & noone killing fergul or gralk, gave the harness & went kicked fergals *** & got me some pants.
Got my legs on E. Marr last night. (2/27/02) Not as easy for me as some of the people posted here mentioned. The hardest part of the whole ordeal for us was getting TO the broodmother. Without some help, it would have been impossible.
Had a friendly exp group move to the fort to keep the 2 FG's at entrance cleared and watch for other groups. Unfortunately, they had a wipeout right before I turned in the harness. :( Nevertheless, I think this helped reduce our adds before the Fergul battle.
Getting to the BM was difficult because the elders and ancient Wurms kept seeing through invis and aggroing. Shardtooth was there too, so at least one of my guildies got a good tunic out of it also. I eventually had to call on more guild reinforcements to clear the cave out as much as possible. Had an enchanter, druid, and necro (average 50+) helping. Druid died once after a huge 7 wurm train. We had been trying to enter the cave from the Thurgadin side, but eventually gave up and ran to the other end. Worked a little better that way.
Turn-in went w/o a hitch, used the following to keep strangers from ******** quest up: /ooc PERFORMING QUEST! Please leave BROODMOTHER, GRAKL, and FERGUL alone. Thanks for your cooperation.
My server is relatively civilized. Only one person came up to get BM before I performed turn-in, but respected my camp. One group started to help us take down Fergul, but stopped after we asked them not to. Your mileage may vary. Repeated the /ooc a few times as we progressed through zone w/ BM in tow.
The Broodmother became an Elder Wurm pet for a minute (freaked me out), but my Necro friend feared the elder and I regained control. That happened right outside the cave entrance. The pathing for BM was a bit screwy. We feared or rooted anything in front of BM while I stayed as close behind her as possible w/ SoW and Invis up.
BM engaged Grakl, though despite my THOROUGH briefing ahead of time, my necro buddy drew aggro for a minute. He died when a few strays added. :(
I lost complete sight of Fergul during this, but luckily my druid friend tracked and rooted him.
After leading a small FG train around after a wrong turn(leaving them in the dust), I finally found my friends and Mr. Frostsky. ;) Druid was almost oom (from previous Wurm/FG encounters). Enchanter and I ping-ponged Fergul w/ dots on and no problems right at the wizard spires.
As an aside, there was another group or two who were working n the quest (earlier step) at the same time but had trouble with the Vores turn-in. I had no problems, but I did the turn-in for the harness of control about 2 weeks ago. Kind of funny that there were like 3 petitions in on this quest at the same time. 2 ppl complaining about it being broken, and mine saying it is working.
LONG overdue replacement for my Tribunal Imbued Ringmail leggings. :D I'm very happy. :)
Take care, Frekkels. Forgotten Guard member on E. Marr Barbarian Shaman of the 44th Circle
PS: BIG thanks to Biano, Darria, and Uurson for guild support on this, and another thank you to Theis, Rabbidd, and Khedive for keeping the fort entrance cleared as much as possible. HUGE thanks to Kraphalis for the rez's afterwards.
Been waiting for this quest to be fixed for several months now, proud to say my 51 druid and a 57 chanter took down Fergul, had no problems gettign BM out, though it looks like the pathing is a bit whacky, was doine in about 15 minutes
Definitly fixed. Quest went off like a charm. Finished it with a 46 shaman (me), 51 SK, 54 Druid. Had no problems with Broodmother behavior, and no problems with Fergul/Gralk spawning/dropping loot. Proud to say finished it with all group members at least 90% health and 60% mana
As of yesterday this quest is working again!!! We took Fegul with a 46 ranger, 45 bard and myself, 46 druid. I'd say he's a bit tougher than the elites. The ranger didn't make it. :( Fergul took a snare quite nicely but keeping him rooted was problematic.
Not sure about the BM spawn time, she was back up an hour or so after i completed the quest.
The best approach IMHO is to have the harness giver follow the BM as she wanders around on her way to the fort with the rest of your party waiting at Fergul's spawn point (the fort gate on the EW zone side).
As a side note... When I do this quest again for my ranger partner, we'll do it late at night. Within 30 seconds of announcing I was doing the quest and handing in the harness, I was getting spammed by people threatening to KS because I "stole" their quest. Even though I was the only one even in the shardwurm cave when I handed in the harness and there had been no shouts or OOC's that anyone else was attempting it. Next time will be late night when the children are asleep :)
