Befallen was once the site of a wonderful temple, a reclusive home for the monks who maintained it.

Many blame the dark elves for what it has become, but whatever the cause, Befallen is now a home to the undead its inhabitants used to hunt and destroy. Individuals who thrive on these beings have also taken up residence in its halls, necromancers and shadow knights.

Various keys are (were) obtained and required to move to the lower levels of this zone.

History?

Anyone know the history of Befallen? I know it has somthing to do with a monestary of monks fighting undead that was overran with Tier'dal and an undead army, but can someone elaborate please? Thanks!

It is where the ancient elven capital of Takish-Hiz was. To be specific, it was the royal palace of the high elves. It is the spot where Innoruuk had taken the High Elf King and Queen to his world. There he tortured them for 300 years and created the Tier'dial from those two. The original spot is cursed and has been studied by those who follow the dark path of Necromancy for a long time.

No, it is true consult the authorized EQ book. Befallen used to be the monesatry for monks. for some unknown reason it was abandoned.

What are you talking about? Monestary of monks? I've never heard such foolishness! The pit that is now Befallen was once a powerful stronghold of the Elven nation. Some greedy few turned away from the True Faith that guided and sheltered the elven people. Seeking to gain power for themselves, they went against the teachings of Innoruuk and plotted against the King. Though much of the battle was fought on the continent of Faydwer, the rebels had forces on the Mainland as well. They laid siege to the stonghold for long months, but could not take it from the strong defenders. When the fortress finally fell, it was through a betrayal so base that none will speak the name of the place any longer. In sorrow, that place was renamed "Befallen". Perhaps someday, when we have uncovered from that ruin the secrets that were buried there, the Faithful of Innoruuk will retake thier rightful place as the leaders of the Elven nation.

True Faith? Every elf child knows the Mother is the one who protected us and wept when we fell under the darkness and spite of Innoruuk! As for Befallen, well, the dead don't sleep there and I suggest no other person attempt to either. There's some strange things which happened the one time I was there which convinced me to avoid that place like the plague!

The Mother? I am sorry, but Taeloth Thex has it correct. Check out the Game Lore section on this very site. As for the true history of Befallen: that I do not know. Too bad we can't loot history books off of those fallen book shelves.

If my wisdom and cunning memory serves me correct, Befallen was once known as Takish Hiz, the capital of the High Elf nation..Innoruuk plucked King Tearis Thex and Queen Christianos Thex from it, and molded them for hundreds, maybe thousands of years. When he was done, he had molded a Teir'Dal. Queen Christianos was named the new queen of the Dark Elves, while Tearis remained good hearted and was returned to the mortal plane, and became the ruler of Felwithe.

Befallen was plagued by Solusek Ro, and the flourishing lands in which it was located became a desert..eventually, the remaining elves fled the city.

Befallen now belongs to Innoruuk and the Minions of the Undead. All hail the Prince of Hate, our Lord Innoruuk!

Yep, high elfs and woody elfs use to live where we now know is the Ro desert (nro, oasis, sro).

It was once a lush and beautiful forest where the elfs of tunaria (now know as antonica) lived. But for some reason Solusek Ro -The burning prince grew angry and displeased with the elfs and summoned a huge (and i do mean HUGE) flame comet (or something like that) from his plane onto the elf's home, thus burning and disintegrating the once grand forest.

The people that survived escaped to the island of Faydwer and established a new society.

Some say Solusek grew jealous of Tunare and the success of her children, but its still a big mystery.

If i had made any errors post any corrections i have made, thanx )

Ahhh Befallen.

This zone was far and away my favorite for quite a long run. As you know, Befallen is populated with undead, shadow knights and necromancers. It is a 3 floor dungeon with a key system to pass through each new level. I will give a floor by floor guide.

Floor 1 is best for 8-12 with no Necromancers to DOT you to death. Here lower level characters can find ample skellys to kill. The dungeon runs on a 20 minutes spawn so one can stay busy with very little downtime. The only danger on this level is swarms of undead, which will only happen if attacked by someone to low, esle, this is a great place to solo. The other rare danger is the named mummy Gynok which is an ultra rare spawn, about every 8 hrs with a placeholder every 16 minutes. This is not usually a concern as he drops the platnium ring for the paw of apollo quest and as such is almost always camped. The other named NPC here is Lrrodd, a skelleton used for the Thex mallet quest. He will not KOS so he is a good xp camp for those who want a stronger skelly. Also on this level is the male dark elf shadow knight, who is in the bedroom. He is not strong but drops the splintered wood key for the second floor. He also sometimes will drop a bone chip rod, useful for locating corpses!

Floor 2 is for FULL groups in the 14+ range. Numbers are important here as you will be swarmed. This is also many characters first run in with NPC necros, which are quite nasty for their level. This is also among the first real dungeons you can explore and you first real chance at cool unique loot, unless you are still not tired of those derv rings =). Down the stairs, you will find a T intersection, to the right is level 3, to the left is level 2. I recommend printing a map because dying behind a locked door is bad enough and being lost makes it worse. There are two real dangers on this floor, first being necros. The second real danger is at the end of another T intersection, which leads to the level 2 shadow knights. To the left is a door with a hole in the floor as soon as you walk in the room. Falling down this leads to the third floor and certain death for most people of this level. Also you will almost certainly need help from a higher level to regian your corpse from this mishap, unless you are lucky enough to be able to fall down again and gate before getting squished. In this room, you will find the female human shadow knight who drops the splintered wood key and the chared bone key and sometimes an antique silver band, a +2ac ring. To the right is a door opened with the charred bone key. This leads to the Male Ogre Sk who drops the barbed arms, the best loot per level in my opinion. Sure there is much better loot around, but if you are roleplaying pure and want to equip your character though your own sweat, this is a great place to do so. The undead are very plentyful here, so you will need to watch swarms and have someone with who can sure rabies.

The third floor is for groups near 20. This has lots of necros, ghouls and darkbone skellys. You will need magic weapons here. The Main mobs here drop nice loot for the level, but not much new info here. One strange dager is sitting down near a willowisp, which will agro to you, and pull the whole dungeon with it, else, just be very careful and enjoy the adventure!

Befallen loot
# Aug 22 2000 at 5:57 PM Rating: Decent
Befallen's loot tables have become rather out of date in this post-kunark era... These days no one really wants barbed armplates or a Bone Bladed Claymore, but (crusty old man voice) back in *my* day the Bone Bladed Claymore was the hotest thing since sliced bread. ;) today you can't even give them away. Most of the loot is located on the third floor, and will require either a dedicated full group of 17-20 to get, or one lvl 30+ anything to lead you down there and guard you. Loot encludes the Gossimer robe (ac8, no stats, nice white color though), the dagger of Marnek (necro dagger, +int I think), the thamaturgist robe (brown necro robe, don't know stats), the BBC (2h, 8/47 -8 agi or something horrendous like that). You can also get the barbed armplates from the 2nd floor shadowknight (whom you have to kill anyway to get the key to the thrid door) and barbed leggings from the Troll shadowknight who also drops the BBC.

The BBC is actually MUCH better than that, being (2h,17dam/45delay -8agility) so can acually hit harder than a lot of other 2 handed weapons and most 1 handed weapons available at those levels

Quick note, the barbed leggings drop off the female dark-elf shadowknight on the third floor of Befallen -- *not* off the troll shadowknight who drops the BBC.

Hello, all, Edmund here.

Befallen, generally, is a marvelous place for young paladins and clerics to hone their skills fighting hordes of undead. To a certain extent, its even a nice place to solo, especially if you're a defender of all that's holy. Beware, though...

I would have to say that the one room in Befallen that has given me more fits than any other is the elf skeleton room. It's the room that guards the one way up (and out) of the third floor. Rest assured, there are plenty of ways *down* to the third floor (heh, heh), but only one way up, and the elf skel guards the way. The ES is around 19th level (even con to me last time I was down there). This would be fine. If he was alone...

Alas, he comes complete with a platoon of dread bone skeletons and ice bones, too. The really nasty problem is that the door into (and, therefore, out of) the elf skel room is locked, requiring a NORENT key from the ogre shadowknight on the second floor. If you do the third floor intentionally, do it in a group. If you end up there accidentally, and you don't have invisibility to undead or the ogre SK's key, start calling for help, or getting yourself as close to the locked door as possible (to <a-heh> facilitate corpse recovery).

Just my experence
1) the ES WILL attack you threw the door if you stand up against it.
This isnt good if your not ready for it or if you are stil fighting the ghouls beside the door.
2) I have never seen any thing else but the ES in that room unless it was a train.
3) The things i have the most problems with when fighting is the Necros on the 3rd floor. the have pets, and cast (they are necros after all :)
invis to undead will not help you get past em. becouse they aren't undead.

IMO this zone is ok for clerics or those that get the gate spell. But if you can hack this, and like hunting the undead. go to unrest.

The elf skeleton drops 2 of the 3 parts to the Thex Mallet. Other skeletons do appear in the same spawn spot. Also if you fight the elf skeleton at his spawn spot and there are MOB casters nearby they will heal the elf skeleton. That is if they do not attack you. It is a good soloing spot for a 23-24 level paladin. Good experience and rarely camped.

No the undead cannot see Sneaking-Hiding Rogues. But Mobs that can see a person that is Invis and IVU will see Rogues, (Like the Ghoul Assassin In Lower Guk Dead Side.....) Just know your special NPC's and you will be fine!
