Freeport is the gateway into Antonica, acting as a hub of sorts for the continent. The western part of Freeport is home to the Knights of Truth, Ashen Order, City Hall, Freeport Bank, and Academy of Arcane Scientists.

At the western edge of the city is the courtyard leading into the Commonlands. This zone is full of low level rats, orcs, skeletons, and bats which provide excellent hunting experience for people just starting out. Also of note here in West Freeport is the portal to the Plane of Magic, located on the top floor of the Academy's tower.

Given by the aviak enchanter in the Academy.

This task takes place in an instance of the Sewers.

You begin by /opening a chest that's right at the entrance. Lo and behold, it's empty.

You then kill random things until you find the 5 thieves, who have been turned into goos. Story-wise, they emerge from the goo, while the goo wanders off. What technically happens is the goo that you're fighting will turn into the thief, and another goo will spawn. Both are unattackable. The thief despawns after a few moments, while the goo wanders to a room with the Raging Bile.

The final stage of the task is to kill the Raging Bile, which is a HUGE goo. It's found in the same northwest room as the named in the Ratfink Mystery quest. In average 51-55, it hits for nearly 600.

Loot the vial from the Raging Bile, and return it to Romiak to complete the quest.

Rewards include:

Average 51-55
Silk Headdress of the Patriot: 12ac 8sta/cha/agi 10int 85hp 75m 14svc/svm Rec. 55 Req. 45, NEC WIZ MAG ENC.

Just found this group mission myself.

Pretty much everything in this zone was a green con at Level 90.

The NPC that gives it is Romiak Jusathorn.

Task Steps are:

Enter ther Sewers (follow your compass) 0/1
(Instance in Freeport Sewers)

Search for Romiak's missing lockbox 0/1
(Romiak's Lockbox is just inside the instance, /open -- it's empty)

Search the Sewers for the missing thieves 0/1
(kill trash oozes and a named NPC will spawn, walk off and despawn...)
(Zahua says, 'Oh wow, I thought I'd never get out of there.')
(Kamond says, 'Oh wow, I thought I'd never get out of there.')
(Nismas says, 'Thank you for helping me. I could've been stuck there forever!')
(Reheza says, 'Thank you for helping me. I could've been stuck there forever!')
(Binaz says, 'Run! Save yourselves!')
(Task updates at this point)
(Also.... Brez says, 'Run! Save yourselves!')

Destroy the Raging Bile 0/1
(green con at Level 90)
(the Ragung Bile was not attackable at first... it did not appear to become targetable until an ooze traveled to this room from the last name spawn location)
(Ragung Bile splits, at some point, into Vile Slime as well.)
(a hideous bile... I think it was)
(loot the Vial of Desolation... No Trade, Quest, Tiny, does not show a weight)
(Bile also dropped a loot item... this time it was an Avaricious Leather Helmet.... Magic, Lore, No trade, DRU-MNK-BST, All races, Weight 0.3, Rec. Level 70, Req. Level 60; AC 18, HP 130, Mana 120, End 120, 12 STR & WIS, 10 AGI & DEX, 10 Magic, 15 Fire & Cold, Type 7 Slot)

Quickly return to Romiak his Vial of Desolation 0/1
(back in West Freeport)

Reward is faction increases to:

Citizens of Freeport
Freeport Militia
Coalition of Tradefolk
Knights of Truth
Priests of Marr
Dismal rage
Steel Warriors

Test was as follows:

You say, Hail, Romiak Jusathorn.

Romiak Jusathorn says 'Those folls! I can't believe they ran off with it. They have no idea what power lies whin that {chest}.'

You say, What chest?

Romiak Justahorn says 'My lockbox full of powerful spell scrolls and magicical artifacts. They've been passed down in my family through the ages, and now they're gone. if used incorrectly they could... Oh my, I don't even want to think about it! This is terrible... Just, just terrible. i couldn't possibly expect anyone to help me {find} it.'

You say, I can find it.

Romiak Jusathorn says, 'You would do that for me? I don't know how I would ever be able to repay you. Do what you like with the contents; just return me my vial of Desolation. That little guy almost wiped out all of Ak'Anon years back. Use any of the other contents to your liking if you deem it prudent to your success. most of the potions you may find are simply novelty, but could prove to be useful.'

(You get the mission at this time.)

Upon returning with the Vial and handing it in......

(in Yellow Text...)

Romiak Jusathorn says, 'You found them! The last of my missing artifacts. If this had fallen into the wrong hands... I.. I can't even imagine what may have happened. I am in your debt.'

Well, we just spent a few hours working on this one. Everyone in group got the water sprite essences. But it was a pain in the rear. No real safe spot to pull them out to that we saw. Only two spots for the relic water sprites to spawn. Was a real interesting learning experience.

if you are a lvl 11.... dont even think about killing a guard. the easiest guards are usually the ones that are inside the city, and you should not try them until lvl 30. guards are lvl 50 usually, and they seem impossible to beat at any lvl.

Where are the tunnel entrances from the West Freeport gate? I spent some time bumping into walls, but I have found them. The south entrance takes you thru the south tunnel past the POK book to EFP. The north entrance takes you thru the north tunnel to NFP (vital for FPMilitia KOS pallys) South is at -568,168. North is at 570,194.

I am currently a 35 Paladin and intend to start my quest for soulfire. Problem, when I was lower I helped to many people(or thought I was) who were fighting the guards then when I was high 20s and feeling tough I decided to try killing the guards in WC. BIG MISTAKE. I am now KOS in East and West Freeport. Here is the question. How do I fix my faction with West and East Freeport without damaging my faction with North Freeport? Turning things in is out because I cant live long enough to turn things in. If the guards so much as see me on the horizon they attack. btw I need non KOS faction for my quest or so I am told.
RE: Faction
# Jul 17 2002 at 3:40 PM Rating: Decent
the way too fix your faction is to go to highkeep kill those goblin b!tches and turn in the ears to captain bosec. but i would reccomend beating the hell out of lucan and getting soulfire first because it would be a waste to turn in 300+ ears then become kos again (yes 300+ ears it takes a lot). I as a 35 paladin on torvonnilous have been kos since lvl 29, I do not know many paladins who are not kos in freeport, usually because all paladins (unless turned) are against all evil doings of militia and are ordered to kill them, i myself am not worried i use the underground tunnels when i need to get to my guild in north freeport, but you should know there is a nasty necro sown there named dana proxbury near the zone to nfp who has a spell ive been hit for 250+, but usually one out of 100 times shell actually care to cast a spell and usually when she is after you only has time to cast it once (when on way to nfp) cuz zone is right there. but on way back to wfp (dana is located in large round room in a hole in wall) stay all the way on other side of room to avoid it, though i have never been attacked going back, she is an extreme undercon, she cons blue to me, but she is i would say 40-45 because of her nasty spells.

Killing the WFP guards
# Sep 12 2001 at 7:58 PM Rating: Default
Thats weird that no one posted about this. Well here is what I do (GREAT kiting for level 29+ if you have the mana!!)I don't recommend this for warriors though. If you are a cleric or pally, replace all "snares" with "roots".

Go to the arena, not the PvP part either, and not if you arent liked by the Steel Warriors. If the latter applies, just stay away from the wall seperating the Arena from the rest of freeport. If you are KOS to the Steel Warriors, just stay in that big open space between the Steel Warriors building and the Arena.

For us who are liked by the warriors (and after you turn in a farkload of Militia Helms, they will like you. I have gone from Apprehensive to Amiably in 3 days)this is easy as Pie...after its been cooked and has cooled a little bit. Because when it is still frozen its kinda hard. But anyway, from 29-33 I recommend Hrakin (don't know about higher yet) and Ledshin. Hrakin spawns 30, Leshin 27. This only will work with a sow, snaring early or rooting early will only make a train. But, you pull your guard from where you see him (get him at his closest point to the Arena. Follow them around either invis or on a non-kos character to see it all) and run like a ranger on a bad raid to the arena. Get on the top riser where Jakom patrols, and run either left or right to where it meets the wall. Turn around and cast Snare, Ensnare, or Root as soon as you can, I click the little gem madly until it starts casting. As soon as it either lands or they look to close, run off to the next lowest riser...NEVER ENTER THE PVP AREA!! That will be death from the guard and maybe even other people because it is so small and hard to escape. As soon as you are on the next riser, if they are not snared or rooted yet (Snare if you can, root makes this difficult)keep attempting until it lands or they make it to 90 degrees away from you in the circle around the arena. If they make it there, continue to run around and cast. Do the same if snared, only cast your most mana efficient DD. Repeat until guard is dead. With snare, as you may have noticed, the point at which they normally run, their AGI is too low to move. This gives you free med time before the next guard. Simply cast a DoT, and med. If you are a ranger, cast ignite and use your bow until he gets close enough to fight. As a pally, when he hurts too much, root, run back and heal. Rangers can do the same but with him still snared it will work fine.

What happens if I run oom? Just run back up to where you started this, that corner on the top level by the wall, and sit and med. If the guard is snared and still on the lower level when you start, count to 12, if unsnared, count to 4, then stand, check him (if he is still far enough way, med another tick) and if close enough go back down to the lower level, sit med and count again to twice what you counted before. Then stand and repeat the DD process.
What happens if I get an add?
RUN!! Run to the EFP zone line with Guard Imillin...the one at the end of the street going to the arena. Be warned you will lose about a bubble of HP zoning...they get a few hits in.

I hope this helps you in killing the dirty dirty humans (humans are bad, m'kay). Any other questions email ben_nageru_hito@msn.com please subject your message something like "YOU #!$%! YOU GOT ME KILLED IN FREEPORT" so I know its an EQ thing and not more **** (yes its lovely, but "too much of a nude thing" really exists) I have been killing freeport guards in EC, WC, EFP, WFP and I hope to expand into Nro soon.

if you want really good exp and loot take a boat to fadwer then to orc hill and crushbone for orcs. Directions:once at dock in fadwer follow th path there will be the dwarf city then a T go left then a zone to GFay. Once in GFay follow the right zone wall to felwithe then take the path go right then left you will be at newbie lift take the other path then you will face POD lift walk right away from POD lift and you will be at orc lift, get a group there and go straight away from the lift you will run into orc hill and if you keep going the zone line to Crushbone.

Tips for those KoS to the Freeport Militia
# Aug 22 2000 at 6:51 PM Rating: Excellent
Many higher level players like to kill Freeport guards, cleric and paladin quests also lower faction with the Freeport Militia. So what happens if one becomes KoS to the Freeport Milita? It may seem like there is no way for someone to get into North Freeport to do banking or to a guildhall, short of an invisiblity spell.

Fortunately, there is a way to get into both North and East Freeport without encountering any Freeport guards. Along Freeport's city walls, there are two areas (one on each side of the gate, but some distance away) that have an illusionary wall instead of a stone wall. What this means is that you can walk through these areas and enter other parts of the city via its sewers. Besides a few 'a sewer rat's and the occasional Quest NPC, there are not many creatures in these tunnels.

It may take awhile to get memorize a path to where you want to go, and learning your way around the first few times can be frustrating. It helps to have a good light source and/or some form of nightvision.

The tunnel that leads to East Freeport leads to the section where players of "evil" classes and religions guildhalls are located.

It is important to note that while there are guards in North Freeport, they belong to the KnightsofTruth faction, so most guard-killers won't be KoS to them, possibly even if they are a member of an "Evil" class or race.

Good luck, and happy traveling =)

My ex-character would perhaps disagree with the impression created in the above posting that travel through the tunnels is a safe process.

After being utterly mangled (in about three seconds) by a 'drowned citizen' I would state that the more Southerly tunnel is not for the weak nor faint of heart.

West Freeport has "drowned citizens" that spawn in a pool right near the WFP/EFP tunnel border, inactive.

Those who pass by and fall in will wake them up,however...which can mean a fatal encounter for others. OTOH,they're actually not a bad point to camp at lower levels to take down for exp and the odd rawhide/bronze items.

They strike like mummies, can inflict disease, and are undead. Spooking them works fine to get em off your back long enough to escape if you're a goody-two-shoes paladin or cleric.

Falling into the water may wake them up, but so does casting spells on them. Here was my experience.

I was using the underground for the first time ever, and after being shown round, my guide decided to log out and leave me stranded. Which was nice.
I managed to remember the way (thankfully) and got back to the pool. I looked down to avoid falling in and saw someone's corpse at the bottom. Beside them I saw a body that said 'drowned citizen'. Being used to undead things jumping out at me (Dark Elf!) I /conned first and it was dark blue. I decided that I could take it and cast Lifetap at it (at my level it was my only damage spell - 5 whole HP!). It stood up and tried to come after me, but couldn't seem to climb out of the water. Thinking I was safe, I cast again and again. Easy kill, I thought.
I look up after casting a few times and see 8 drowned citizens already out of the water and chasing me along the narrow edge of the pool! Needless to say, I ran like hell out of there as fast as my little blue legs could carry me. Heading for the zone, I stopped and turned round. Only 3 of them seemed to be after me, so I started to attack them. For being a dark blue /con they hit hard and don't die easily. I had to use my HT to get rid of the first one and then all of my mana to kill the second one, just so that I could be unstunned long enough to actually get some hits in. I was down to around a bubble and a half of HP left when I finally killed the last one, and it left me diseased.
The spell Disease (the one I had on me) is a DoT, but not a very powerful one. Unfortunately for me, it causes damage at exactly the same rate as sitting meditating builds up, so in order to not lose HP I had to sit down a lot. On my way back to Neriak I couldn't find anyone to heal me, so I had to keep sucking the life out of beetles and spiders just to stop myself dying.

Thankfully I eventually got healed (all the way back at Nektulos!) and lived to tell the tale. So here's the moral of the story, put as simply as I can manage - Don't underestimate the drowned citizens, and watch out for them swarming you if you attack. The underground isn't the easiest place to run through.
