I've done the hand-in about 45 times so far, I've only had 1 new item in the last 10 hand ins. I'm thinking Tinmizer's Compactor isn't rewarded anymore, but not 100% sure. The clockwork guards drop scrap metal pretty regularly, and the scrap metal is tradeable, can mass clear Akanon on a KoS high level, then hand in scrap with an alt.
Another note : you can do this quest at threatening, probably scowls too :

Sanfyrd is loc at 2021.07, -235.89 across from the Necro / Cleric Guild Enterance. And he does still take scrap metal 4 at a time. So far he given nothing good yet, but only turned in about 10 times.

I gave him 4 sets total last night and he took all 4. Gave me a "Chunk of Metal Ore" that I haven't a clue what it is for. Hmmm since I don't see it listed here I will have to look further.

Wow! I was collecting metalscraps for awhile an' I turned them in at level eight an' the first thing was rawhide that I couldn't wear an' the second was a rusty weapon, stinkypoo but a skellie could use it, and the third was an earring +5 sv vs fire which is neat 'cause I didn't have ANY magic stuff an' it was free! I got two scraps left over an' clockworks still are blue so I'm gonna hunt them for a long long time!

It's true.... digging up old subject here. Sanfryd will give a bootstrutters famed backpack with 25% thats right 25% weight reduction. The quest killing the dusters gives a bootstrutters with only 10%.... problem is they are both lore items so i gave away my 25% bag did the dusters good and got a 10% :(

Sanfry is next to another gnome across a river next to the bottom of a waterfall. It is in the back of AkAnon down a steep ravine that is hard to see unless you change view. I have already said too much, but I sometimes get interesting things from these posts. He only accepts scrap metal and this is the exact description not any of the other junk you find.

I heard about this quest a few days back and decided to try, after hearing my friend got one of the Horns. I put some on an alt to try it out, and got the back straps of mastery. Heard the kael chest piece for monks comes from this too.

On The Rathe today and he wasn't there. I have about 24 scrap metals and no Sanfyrd to give them to. Oh well, I'll dump them and get back to collecting micro servo's.

I too picked up on of these near epic piercing weapons for this minor quest. My level 10 rogue friend loves it! EQ have fixed this now by banishing Sandford from AkAnon - checked on 2 servers and he's not there any longer (until the next patch I suspect).

I have also heard of him giving the Back Straps of mastery. Im currently running around feverously, trying to get some for my Monk alt.

My various characters have done this quest a total of about 50 times. I recenty recieved a surprise from Sanfryd (and son hehe):
Back Straps of Mastery
AC 15, 7str 7sta 5cha 50hp weight .3 monk only
magic, lore, and sadly, no drop.
It is a shame my Ranger recieved this and not an honorable Monk who could use it. My character Ksiather on Rallos Zek has the item. I only mention this due to the nonbelivers out there that will, im sure, soon have their say. Yet this item is real. I would not beleive it so quickly myself, but I did nothing else at that time that could have triggered this item save the black box quest, which you don't recieve items for anyhow. This item, if it is not a temporary glitch, will create tension between Rangers questing their Trueshots and Monks. The Competition between Rangers for the Clockworks/servos can be quite ugly on a busy day as it is.

I did this quest last night, just getting rid of some scrap metal I had hanging out in the bank, and I got the Horn of Hsagra. This is a near-epic weapon!!!

I believe it -- happened to me too -- and it has the same graphic as a rat tooth. Even though I didn't tell anyone, Sanfyrd mysteriously vanished from the game for a while.

First of all, its only rogue clockworks, not runaways, that give scrap. Second, you put 1 of the items in each slot so 4 slots have 1 each. Third, the guy is across from the mines, way deep, and i had to swim to get to him. And lastly, its not scrap metal he is banned from taking, its the black boxes, and servos. Hope this clears up some confusion, even though those posts were months ago.
