While their Taklasinai elders reside much further below Lavastorm Mountains, the Goblins of Fire Peak use this cave system as their stronghold. Co-existing with the goblins are some clockwork gnomes, here after the minerals this area has to offer.

Gnomes aside, the goblins have quite the home for themselves, complete with a bar, bedrooms, and other homely features. While most would find the heat to be too stifling, these goblins enjoy the hot temperatures so much, they have built fire places into many of their living quarters.

Solusek's Eye is not all fun and games, however, as the goblins do not welcome visitors. If you trespass here, you had better be able to handle yourself fighting off multiple goblins at the same time. As many of the goblins see through invisibility, you will not make it far unnoticed, and they do have a tendency to swarm their enemies.

2016 Guide for levelling in Sol A

I know a lot of people are returning to EQ and as I search for guides about current day EQ there just aren't that many out there. So this post is to help new/returning players level from 18-30 or so very quickly.

As a precursor to this zone I usually just level up in the cat/bear caves in Crescent Reach until the bears are all dark blue, which is usually around 18 or so. This goes fast and can be done in one evening easy. As you level up do not forget to hit the bazaar for level appropriate defiant gear. Even without the best gear, your tank merc can solo these levels for you.

From CR I like to move to Sol A, and there is a good xp bonus there. I solo'd in here way back when it was truly a challenge and fell in love with the zone. Typically I zone in with invis and move to a safe area. There are several good areas and as you get more levels the zone opens up. You can go here at 18 if you want but its a little easier at 20 (back in CR there is a cave of undead that will take you to 20 fast if you prefer). Zone in and follow the path to the first open room, take a right and there is a safe area that is great for pulling. Plus, if you get in trouble, the safe area leads to a zoneline for Sol B. Zoning into Sol B isn't always safe, but it lets you clear agro in Sol A and quickly pop back into the zone. Pulling from the door in the lower level of the main room can be dangerous at lower levels, stick to the mobs in the hallways.

I prefer to move to the short hallway where the Kobold predator or his ph spawn. Once he is dead it is a safe hallway to pull into. You can move on back through the goblin foreman room, which has a false wall that leads to a hallway with a door that leads to Sol B. There are actually a couple of zonelines to Sol B back there that are close together and provide a safety net. I usually stay close to the zonelines and pull to them. As you get a few levels you can work your way back through the Kindle area into the inferno goblins. Clearing your way to the back will get you 4 levels or so and with a little more time in there you will be 27-28 and ready for JP Forest. In Sol A your merc can tank 3 at a time, so really the main thing to learn here is crowd control for your class. Snare is a big bonus too, as the last mob in your pull will want to run below 20%. Learn how to make sure the adds attach to the merc and leave you alone while you dps. You can stay here and explore other areas that will take you up to 35 but with the XP bonus in JP Forest I suggest moving there.

Check out my suggestions for levelling in Jaggedpine Forest at https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/zones.html?zstrat=157. Hope this helps!

Solusek minions can be found inside the goblin citadel in the south part of the map (e.g. the whole area south to the Pit, #13 on EQ Atlas).
Lava Elementals
# Oct 26 2006 at 5:53 PM Rating: Decent
These are NOT in the far NW of the zone. The blazing are in the far NW. The lava elementals spawn in a hidden room in the far NE of the zone. to get there you need to levi over lava a short distance back from the locked castle gate. You levi North then turn West. you will need to duck to travel any farther. go forward until you get to a spot where it seems to go in a circle(square actually) in that wall you can duck and enter the room with a lava tube in the middle the lava elemental spawns here. The PH is the wandering mob around the tube.

I found them today, not sure if this helps. I did not want to kill a bunch of the gnomes due to faction so I worked my way to the far North West part of the zone killing the goblins. It was through a few doors and I fell into a pit. In the pit 2 blazing elementals attacked me. No drop as of yet but at least I found them. I am lvl 46 and fairly (but not grossly) twinked and had no problem. I camped there to try again later. Hope that helps.

Go to EQ Toolbox and download the maps there. They will then be part of your maps system in-game. You, ofcourse, have to have the update LoY for this to work, but if you do this is a great way to fill in all those maps you are missing.
Wow what a nice train
# Jun 02 2003 at 7:25 AM Rating: Excellent
2 problems today.

First : as a 36 warrior I often solo in Sol A to make plats from fine steel weapons and other loots. I was there near the metal bridge and I had already clean the area a few time. Then I had a lot of things in my bags and decide to sold all to the vendors and went back. At this time a cinder goblin respawn on the bridge. I take him in a clear zone not to aggro another respawn (I fight here with half of my life). Then in the middle of the fight, another goblin run to me and a third one ???? Then I decide to run to Nagafen s Lair C entrance. During my run I can see two Priest of Solusek ??? Then I died near C entrance.
Back to take my gear and try to now who make this awfull train without saying anything (and shout a lot of thing to him of course) but no one in Lavastorm and no one in Sol A. Any idea about this ? Does the priest spawn because I clear the area ?

Second : I have 600 plat in bank. Does anyone know how to do much more in a few hours ?

To close this post : maybe this info will answer some question about this place. With my level it's a good place to solo but all the mobs will aggro. You should kill them all to cross the zone. Nearly all the mob near the entrance are green, at the north some are dark blue (as the boss), at the south there's a lot of mobs and it's difficult to solo. Near the east you ll find the gnome and they re not easy for me. When it remain only 20 % of life, mobs often run and make adds. I make little less than 50 pp for one hour.

Hope this help.

I've fallen into it as well. Ogres just weren't meant for that place even with shrink. But if you can move fast enough, you can follow the river of lava there is a place that you can jump up to that *USUALLY* is clear of spawns. Just down the river a bit. Kind of a good thing you don't get argo running your butt off in lava. lol But yes there is a way to get out! =)

I'm hunting this zone for the new ore drops that are supposed to drop here. Just wondered if anyone has actually seen any of these drops (Firey Ore, Flame Agates) cos the same type of stuff is common drop in Droga (different name there though) but doesnt seem to drop the same way here .

Sure, I have seen it. Since I am not a smith it was nice vendor fodder. If you check the druid and gypsy vendors in Lavastorm or the Goblin and Gnome Merchants in Sol A you may find some that players have dumped.

The stuff that drops in Droga and Nurga is Deathsteel Ore.

I picked up quite a bit of firey ore in Sol A when I was there hunting with a couple of groups, not knowing what it was for. Don't recall about flame agates, if they had dropped, they would not have gottem my attention because they are just gems I've seen other places.

You can bind in PoK now, at the Neriak Book. Much quicker than Freeport, much safer than inside the Neriak zone.

If you can bring a binder with you, then it should be safe enough for a KOS character to bind right by the zone line in the Neriak Foreign Quarter; you shouldn't aggro the guards after zoning into Nektulos, so you should be able to safely sneak+hide past them.

However, I haven't tried that myself, so it's at your own risk :).

My first trip to this zone last night, and duo'd with a 29 druid (32 druid myself) to decent effect. Then came back with a 39 Enchanter and had absolutely no problems, despite a lack of tanks. We did not, however, try the magic resistant clockwork who drops the Charred Guardian Shield.

To answer your question, I think a well balanced group of 24-34 would likely have few difficulties as they move from area to area. Just DON'T fall in the lava towards the beginning of the zone, and don't run and aggro more if you are having problems. Two groups or a raid should be fine.
The Catch 22 of SolA (and Permafrost)
# Sep 19 2001 at 5:06 PM Rating: Excellent
Hiya,

After reading the bucketfuls of helpful hints about grouping in SolA (and Permafrost), I'd like to point out one glaring detail...there's nobody in these levels to group with.
I was looking in Permafrost for an Ice Goblin Skin when I was lucky enough to hook up with a (much) higher level player and finally got the skin. Luckily I didn't have to stay there very long and the zone was thick with Goblins, so it was a good thing there was that individual there to get me past the trouble spots.
Now I find myself in SolA and it's the same thing. There are hordes of Goblins (because there's nobody thinning them out) and only a few (and I do mean "a few") players and they're waaay higher than me. I don't want to rely on them to get me deep enough to reach the Fire Goblins. I'd rather group with people my level and get XP while I'm at it.
So thanks again for the grouping tactics for SolA...now who do I group with?

Coddington
Lvl 24 Gnome Mage

PS. I read that there are Gnomes in SolA. Is it possible to get through the Goblins (via Invis), reach the Gnomes and use them (the Gnomes) as guards? I'm told the Goblin casters can Detect Invisibility. My faction with Gnomes is very good...but that's because I'm a Gnome :).
The Catch 22 of SolA (and Permafrost)
# Dec 14 2010 at 11:46 AM Rating: Decent
I'm a lvl 29 Ranger looking for similar lvl people to group with anywhere in EQ. I haven't been to SolA yet, I've spent some time in Lavastorm, and a ton of time in Blightfire Moor, I'm a little behind in getting gear for my lvl, been focusing more on getting xp than anything. Anyone who wants to group my char. is tweetalicious (long name, I know, wasn't thinking when I made it) I'm on at pretty random times, ( I have a kid, and a job that both have wierd hours) but I'd love to kill some goblins with anyone who's interested.
BYOG
# Oct 17 2002 at 1:05 PM Rating: Excellent
There are MANY zones, particularly dungeons, where you have to Bring Your Own Group (BYOG). It only gets worse as you go up in level too. It's one of the pushes toward joining or forming a guild.

Man, I feel the pain of the guy that wants to get groups in Sol A and Perma. I have been to Sol A and looked in there hoping to see a group my level (mid 20s) in there. I, too, have the same problem though. Apparently, if you are in your 20s and you want to group, you have to either go to LOIL or SK. Otherwise, you're on your own! Kinda sux.

Well for some reason i can't seem to edit my message GRR!!!

Group suggestion should have read as

1 You (mage)
1or2 Warrior tanks
blah blah

The way it reads now it looks like I am suggesting that YOU tank heh not a real good plan :)
RE: The Catch 22 of SolA (and Permafrost)
# Sep 21 2001 at 7:48 AM Rating: Excellent
That's the catch of both these dungeons. I have spent countless hours in the last month in both places with my 35 Ranger.

Perma is no biggie for me as the aggro range and level of mobs is lower that in SolA. I spent abouot 30 hours total there solo in the last week and pretty much pulled everything BUT the King "pit". The scryer room is kind of tricky to pull without help but it can be done if you are very patient.

These dungeons are simply NOT hunted by the appropriate levels. They are almost always empty. I went hours in Perma And Sol where I was the only one there OR there was maybe one 40-50 plus caster there pharming for lewt.

SolA is very different from Perma. The main threat is that you can't run out of there backwards because the little boogers backstab and can take out even a tank fairly quickly. You absulutely HAVE to have a group here and the chance of a pickup group is pretty much slim to none.

There are 2 choices for you really, the first is to hang out outside the zone and wait for a fellow Uber mage to come by who is planning on pharming for awhile.. Explain what you need (he prob will know w/out you telling him since he prob did the same quest himself) And ask him if you can tag along on his coat tails.

The second thing you can do is to form your own group. This is where being guilded really comes into play. It's difficult to gather up a group outside of a guild unless you have made many many friends. I see a lot of the "solo" classes that have this problem. Once you get to a certain level you need to have people you can call on to help you and if you have been a solo artist up till that point, chances are you don't have those resources. Roleplaying will help you form a group if you can sell the idea of "adventure and treasures untold"

I think you will find there are MANY 20-30 lvl players who have longed to venture into SolA but didn't because they didn't feel comfortable without a full good group.

Either way, I highly suggest you start grouping at this point from time to time as it will make your life and certain tasks much easier to perform. The next time you find yourself in a great group and everyone is having fun and getting along, you can say "Hey would you all like to get together one night this week and venture into SolA? I have read the reward is great and I really need a quest item from there" I bet you will get a positive response.
Not to mention the fact that SolA holds quest peices for just about every class out there.

Recommended group (just a guideline)
1 You (mage)
1or2 Warrior tanks
1 Ranger (track and main snarer)
1 Druid (main healer if no cleric, backup snarer, fire and cold resist buffs and LEVITATE!!!)
6 Cleric if possible (very hard to find)
Wizard to nuke (make sure the wiz knows their
stuff and nukes at the end of battle to finish mob or you will have a dead Wizard on your hands)

Also an enchanter who knows how to use mez is a perfect addition as long as the group knows that the tactics are very different with a chanter in the group. Drop one of the tanks and pick up an enchanter if you can.

One last note: Invis will get you killed sure as day in Sol. Everything that casts can see through invis there. Good luck!

Let me add Runnyeye as yet another zone - I cna't find people to group with...sigh.

I too , am frustrated into the point that I wish to adventure into runnyeye (blackened alloy stuff) and yet Runnyeye is either empty - or has some Lvl 55 types in there.

And yes - a guild seems to be the only option available -

I wish to start a new EQ channel 'LFG's for specific zones' - Kinda a global guild channel for non - guildies....

I had been soloing in runnyeye (I am a 44 Ogre SK) and thought I would just pop in here and solo this joint as well.

First problem is I am too big to get through the window room. I called for a couple of guidies to help me out. I got a 40 DE SK and a 35 Barb Shammy.

We marched right to Gabbies room with no resistance. I single pulled Gabbie's room (no Gabbie) and the merchants room. Then I pulled the hall behind us. Bored, we went upstairs and cleaned that out. When we came back down, we took the 2 guards at the gate, and the 40 took over pulling while we waited in the courtyard. She pulled.....well....most everything. I don’t know if it was her level or if there were just lots more of those bots, but I had 4 on me, the 40 SK had 3 on her and the Shammy picked up 2.

I couldn’t save the Shammy. The 40 and I both FD’d with under 100HP left. Moral of the story here folks, a bunch of greenies can do you in. Don’t get over confident in here.
