I don't see him on the NPC list. Although he is listed on Magelo as being in this zone, not finding other references to him?

Which one of the tribes is better to have faction with, Gor Taku or Shak Dratha. Is one of them closer to the Guardians of Shar Vahl?

Weapons Drops
# Jul 05 2004 at 3:48 PM Rating: Decent
For all you budding ML's out there, the Loda Kai Camp produces some pretty fair weapon drops. Fists of Bone, (red glowing effect)High Apprentice Claws, Blades of Fighting, Blades of the Beast. Also some Loda Kai chain drops, but these were pretty rare. Mobs were dk blue to green at 12, except for the charred corpse which sometimes spawns by the fire, it was red.

RE: Zimloro
# Jan 24 2006 at 3:02 PM Rating: Decent
Zimloro is a gnome merchant in Shadowhaven. He is located near the hard end of echo cavens in a gnome merchant camp marked by a small staircase and a small pool of water.

This little mini-quest actually starts with him, then you have to go and see an elf named Elefan (I believe) who is located west of the entrance to Shar Vahl in Shadeweaver's thicket next to some rocks on the north side of the trail to the Paludal Caverns entrance.

Elefan is easiest to spot when coming from the entrance to PC, as he is on the west side of a rock, and more easily spotted when traveling west.

unknown zone

Has anyone figured out the part of the map where it says "to unknown zone"? I tried going there a while ago but I got killed very fast by the five or so aliens that were standing in the area. I just think it's odd that of all the things about this zone, no one has mentioned this until now. I haven't been to that tunnel since that death though. Anyone have any input on this?

I saw the "unknown zone" listing on EQAtlas and went to check it out. I pacified all the mobs but would not stick on the fire elemental and made a run for the back of the tunnel which is filled with lava.

After a bit you cant swim on top due to the celing sloping to meet the lave and you take a substantial amount of dammage swiming under so I had to DA. Finding nothing interesting I just swam back and gated out.

The mobs guarding the ent con light to dark blue at lvl 65. Wonder if this was just abandoned by SOE or if the is more to it such as a key needed. If anyone has any info please post. Thanks

Place to hunt at level 24
# Mar 18 2003 at 10:51 AM Rating: Decent
Level 24, running two necros, looking for a place to level without fighting the crowds. Shadeweaver's may not yield the greatest xp but it does avoid the crowds.

The Firefall Saureks are about the best level/match I've found to kill. Too bad they don't all bunch up in one place. Strange that they don't drop a higher percentage of good quality pelts. Most of the pelts I've found off these guys are damaged.

Currently trying to break up the corpses camp. The corpses are blue, the one smelly corpse is yellow to red, but even the red guy is not too tough of a fight. I still haven't gotten a timing on the respawn rate because rest the dead wears after killing the smelly corpse and one or two others. However, if we can get the spawn broken up this could provide a good steady stream of xp.

Shak Dratha Vrs. Gor Taku
# Sep 24 2002 at 12:44 PM Rating: Default
I’m hoping to get a discussion going about the Gor Taku and Shak Dratha factions from a non-Vah Shir perspective.

As far as I can see now, the Shak Dratha and Loda Kai are hostile to newcomers, and the Gor Taku are more tolerant. However, the Loda Kai are allied with the Gor Taku and not the Shak Dratha. Also, the Gor Taku tolerate the Shak Dratha in their own homes, but want them killed off. Odd and alien if you ask me, but who knows the motivations of the native creatures of Luclin. I also wonder this: Do these factions affect zones outside of Shadeweavers? Are there other Shak Dratha and Gor Taku hidden away on Luclin that might have to be dealt with in my wanderings? Or is this simply a Vah Shir problem, and an inconvenience to others traveling the tunnels back and forth to Shar Vahl?

The only benefit to taking a side in this conflict that I can see (from a High Elf Wizard perspective) is: The Shak Dratha drop Shade Silk which can be used to make decent caster clothing. Any and all comments welcome.

RE: Shak Dratha Vrs. Gor Taku
# Apr 28 2004 at 2:37 AM Rating: Decent
another interesting point. from talking to various NPCs in shar vahl and shadoweavers, you learn that the gor taku were there first. someone (a vah shirt, i assume) named loda kai was studying them. then, there was an explosion in shadowweavers and then the shak dratha and loda kai brigands etc appeared. what caused the explosion and how the brigands relate to the npc named loda kai is not explained. also, two npcs (a guard in shar vahl and a captain in shadoweavers) tell you that they have to convince the shak dratha thay are not enemies, as the gor taku aid the loda kai( storyline is the gor taku make the loda kai armor) and the loda kai are the real enemies.
yet also, the shak dratha are on the same faction as the centi and some other high level luclin mobs, some of which have opposing faction with the whisperlings (which is a whole other thread LOL)

there are a lot of mysteries in shadowweavers thicket. as wel as it being a great zone for anyone in lower levels to exp, farm and quest. i just the questions about the zone are unsolved mysteries/quests, and not just things the programers never got around to finishing. (xakra shield anyone?)

I've always wondered about these 2 as well. They seem to only give faction against one another, so I assume they are enemies. Yet I see them walking around side by side in the caves and tunnels in shadeweaver's. There are a couple Shar Val guards who have differing opinions as to who is the true enemy, but I don't see much discussion about it apart from that.

Another question comes to mind. Has anyone read lore books or some musty old Luclin history tomes that talk about the residents of Shadeweaver's Thicket? If so, what books are they? I know Shar Val has an extensive library, but this poor wandering Wizard has not yet made enough coin to buy books just based on there titles...

Yes, Vah Shir are neutral to all races, classes, and religions; they will not attack you with two exceptions: 1. You attack them, and 2. You are in an illusion, such as Wolf Form, any illusion will cause the guards to attack you if you are near them.
Shak Dratha
# Mar 27 2002 at 4:31 PM Rating: Decent
It seems that on the Firiona Vie server, the Gor Taku have completely taken over. The only Shak Dratha I find are wandering ones. How do I get the Shak Dratha to retake the spawn locations? Killing all the mobs in a given spawn location doesn't seem to cut it. They just re-spawn with Gor Taku. Are there certain mobs I have to kill in order to switch the npc spawns from Gor Taku to Shak Dratha and vice versa?

Hunting SHM L18
# Feb 17 2002 at 3:08 PM Rating: Decent
Since too much in Paludal is light blue and I can't cast invis on myself yet I went to back to hunting in ST. If you cross the range and camp at the wall west-northwest of the loda kai camp you can hunt beetles. These were giving almost half a blue solo, and were pretty ez to kill with the Poison and Disease DOTs while tanking. You should stay away from the saureks at this level because they just take too much mana per kill or they are just plain higher than you. Haven't tried the loda kai guardians yet, or the charred corpses which are conning black. Figured I'd just level to 19 and get some more spells first.

Too much light blue in paludal at 18?? Where are you hunting. Even at 24 all but a few of the bandits were blue to me. I 24 I STILL got a full blue per solo kill. Head back there and get a group at the SH zone. You will go from 17-24ish in 2 or 3 days. The exp is just sick =)

You can find thesein the zone where teh silk wurms are.

The silkwurms and bloodlings rotate spawns form what I am told about 20 mins of silkwurms and then 20 misn of bloodlings.

I was there killing bloodlings everwhere looking for carapcae shells. and then I killed a red hopper and then boom no bloodlinsg to be found and silkworms spawing liek crazy

Ohh yeah the more you kill here the faster the spawn rate. Go beserk kill eveyrthing that moves and spawn rate on teh lowbie mobs increases. I watched 10 silkworms sapwn at once cause I was killing thinsg so fast

I have seen exactly one, conned red to me at 10 as I recall. And like Sister Iiza says, it was very near the firedancers. But the firedancers I am talking about are the ones by the Shar Vahl zone, I have not been near the Paludal zone area yet. It was so close to the firedancers, in fact, that I attacked it just to check it out. I think I had it down to about half when I hit 20%, took a few steps backwards and let the firedancers do their Bug Squish dance on his ugly ***** It is very clearly a beetle but unlike any of the others, no bigger around than a bloodling but twice as tall, and with a grey/purple hue that is entirely unlike other beetles I have seen. I.e., if it's around and you are looking for it, you will not mistake it for one of the regular beetles, even at some distance. It made a curious sound too, like some kind of electronic bell.

Since I have become obsessed with tailoring quests, I spend a great deal of time in the newbie area in Shadeweaver harvesting silk and scrounging up Needle Thin Claws to sew Xakra Kel armor. A LOT of time. And I have only seen it once, as I said. You are gonna be there a while. If you are killing greenies anyway trying to make the bloodbulk pop, you might as well make the time productive by collecting the silks, stackable hides and Needle Thin Claws to sell to PC's. The Needle Thin Claws don't stack, but the Claw Needles you get back from Aroo are stackable and tradable.

I have been found by two of these creatures. In both instances I was attacked on the road just past the firedancers on the way to paludal caverns. Both times I had been killing time by letting my pet attack green stuff, including Cht'Thk Swarmers and (broodlings?). Perhaps one or the other is a place holder. BTW the Bloodbulks are yet another Luclin species which is underconned, so good luck.

Safe Pulling from the Loda Kai Den
# Feb 04 2002 at 12:06 AM Rating: Decent
We have all see the Loda Kai den at the end of one of the trails in the Thicket. I found a very nice way of pulling the poachers from the den in a way not to aggro the entire den on yourself.
First you must have some sort of long range attack spell, for my beastlord this was flash of light or sicken.
If you have a pet tell it to guard just outside the opening of the den, this will ensure that it doesn't try to solo the entire den and get you killed.
Now, traverse just far enough down the ramp that you can see the closest trader without any of them spouting off at your intrusion to their layer. Hit this trader with FoL or Sicken and run back up to your pet.
Shortly some loda kai poachers will follow to the trap you have laid for them outside the den.

I have found this highly effective for getting poachers out of the den, but the traders never seem to want to come up out of their spot. Thus, you could clear most of the mobs out of the den before going down with a group to make getting down easy and productive.

I lucked out. Some higher level Beastlord wandered by me when I was about level 7, handed me the spell and said "Here, they don't sell this one around here, I picked up several copies while I was out of town."

On that topic, I would just like to say that I have never seen a class that sticks together like the Vah Shir Beastlords. There is almost always help to be found, often unlooked for. I try to hold up that tradition as best I can.

As far as where to go to get it, I couldn't tell you. I have been to every single merchant in town multiple times scavenging for tailoring supplies, and I have never seen it for sale in Shar Vahl. However, elsewhere on this wonderful web site,
https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/spell.html?spell=200
it says it can be purchased in Queynos. Not particularly handy for a low level Beastlord. :\

What i have found
# Feb 01 2002 at 10:59 AM Rating: Excellent
1st The Caves:
Inside the caves, you will notice many boulders and fire pyres, and torches. You can click on most(99%) of the rocks, and they will spin, making the door sound(a know the sound when a door is opened) and they stay spinned for 11sec, then spin back(just like a door opening..it stays open for 11secs) The Fire Pyres and the torches that are on the ground do the same, the ones on the walls do nothing.
If you head to the end of the caves where you find the Blacksmith and barkeep, You will find a Forge and a Brew Barrel. When entering this room from the cave, go straight to the boulder wall, and start clicking the boulders, you will get them to open up and let you pass through to the barkeep while avoiding the leader(which ever one is spawned at the time). Go upto each the barkeep and the smith and use sneak if need be to be able to purchase and sell to them.
The smith carries a few weapons, a shield, and a pair of pants. The shield isnt bad, 10ac medium size costs 3pp. The gor is a 5dm 30del(it think dont quote on the stats) ranged marble, he also has a 1hb and a 1hs axe. The pants are 5ac 8wieght. The smith also sells the Slook 6dm 39del 1h peirce primary only(guard yuk yuk, a gor taku guard outside the caves tell you to use a slook to kill the shak dratha). The barkeep has 3 different kinds of booze(strong i might add) and 2 kinds of food. Holpa Mlech is a Hearty Meal, looks like a pie, costs roughly 3sil each(cheap meal!) and the other one i cant recall the name, but costs roughly 2silver each, and is a meal.
The ShakDratha smith and Barkeep do not sell anything, they arent merchants. I have noticed on 2 occasions that the Gor Taku Smith is replaced with a named smith, Gak Tob the Smith. He sells the same items, doesnt respond to hails.
More on Guard Yuk Yuk. He is the only Gor Taku i have gotten to speak. If you Hail him he will you to "Go take a slook and pierce the heart of a shak dratha, this will make the gor taku very happy, go now, GO NOW!" Then Respond to him saying "What Slook" all he says is "Slook is for pokey pokey" He doesnt want a slook, nor does he do anythign when you give him 1 bloody shak dratha heart or condensed shadows.
In the middle of the caves, on the lower lvl you will find a Lodi Kai camp, Poachers and Traders are around here...recommend lvl 15 min to solo here. There is a ramp in lodikai room to lead to the surface.
The Caves have 2 entrances to go to the other side of the mountains, and 1 tunnel to the Paludal Caverns. Chitterlings, and Stonediggers(beetle like mob) wander about in area.
Its been know that if you kill a Gor Taku and shakdratha will spawn in his place, and vice versa.
2nd Beyond the caves:
Beyond the caves is the other side of the mountian, less traveled and explored so far.
There are 3 lodi Kai camps, one more towards the center, and 2 on each end. 2 of the Camps are just simple little camps, simialar to the one near the city on the newbie side of the zone. The last camp is a house. Guarded by 1 loda kai at the door, and 2 soldiers inside with 1 guardian inside on the first floor. 2nd floor has nothing, but the 1st floor can and will agro on you if you are on 2nd floor.
There is also a corpse camp, within the rocky area of this side. It contains about 7 to 8 skelly corpses, and 1 smelly corpse. The corpses are all green to a lvl 32, but the smelly corpse has been known to be light blue to dark blue. They do agro and help each other.
Wandering mobs include FireFall Saurek(lvl varies from green to light blue to a lvl 32), there are beetles, simialar to those on the newbie side, lvl range from 15 to 18 approx. called AshBeetles. Charred Corpses wonder about as well...all light blue to a lvl 32, and cast ignite, No rare drops or anything found off these mobs. Money, bone chips, beetle carapaces and such is all i have found.
There is another cave entrance that leads to a room full of lava, this is seperate then the caves described above. Within this room, there are 2 FireFall Guardians, 2 FireFall Seer's(they are shamans) and a named mob, looks like a magi fire pet names Jyn...(i forgot the name, sorry). Jyn is the only one who agros, the other 4 are alien like mobs, darker colored then the Shak Dratha. Behind Jyn you will find a opening, with a greyish ring surrounding it. Click the ring and it says you need the key to open it. Seetheker's spear, Slook, Chitterling wings(all 3 kinds) all fail to open the door. If you journey past the opening you see stairs decending down into lava, its a long swim down to a dead end, with nothing down there.

3rd part, Unknown quests.
Many things are unkown about this zone, and upon talking to the NPC & PC in both sharvahl and the thicket. i have found the following.
Loda Kai was a of the SharVahl race, and was highly respected. He was doing research on the aliens, and beyond the caves, when suddenly one day a large explosion was heard and felt throughout the thicket. When that happened, the Brigands and poachers then emerged and began to raid the paths, and the Shak Dratha appeared. This loud explosion can still be heard at times while huntin the thicket...but its source i have yet to find. I believe this can be either triggered, or something happens when the explosion is heard.
Xakra shield. Doing the Frostweaver Shield quest you are told to search of the shield made of Xakra, and you are also told that the Xakra is a rare form of silks made by the Shak Dratha Shadeweavers. Shadeweavers have been foudn to spawn in the blacksmith room, when you kill off the gor taku guards. Sometimes they spawn or a Shak Dratha Stoneguard spawns...i personally have seen 3 shadeweavers, 1 i fought was a necro, dark blue to a lvl 32.
BloodBulks, these beetles are rare, and needed for there carapace for Gulham armour, recieved from Kaza Raj. Not much info on these mobs due to the fact i never seen one.
Mass Spawn, There aparently a way to spawn all the shak dratha and all the gortaku despawn, but i have yet to find the way, but have seen it done 1 time before.

I apologize for not putting locations down...i never did right any down i know the zone by heart(happens when you do nothing but explore it for 2 months.) I will continue to search for info.

Wow, that's a lot of info!! Grats for your hard work :)

I have something to add, you can mass spawn Shak Dratha/Gor Taku by killing the Warlord that is in the room with the blacksmith. Doing so will cause all Shak Dratha to become Gor Taku and vice versa.

On a side note, I belive that these factions are fixed for Vah Shir. I have killed hundreds of Gor Taku in hopes to get good faction with Shak Dratha, and I am still dubious to Gor Taku and threatening to Shak Dratha. Anyone know differently?

Have to disagree there. Just killed the warlord and nothing changed. His underlings are all still running around. Maybe I'm missing something?
