The Paludal Caverns are a network of fungus and mold-ridden caves located beneath Hollowshade Moor. In addition to the usual lineup of creatures you'd find in such an area, there are also a few camps of Recondite bandits established here.

resists

Does anyone know how their resists are? I'm referring more to DR and PR. I'd like to take my shaman there when I'm about 15 or so.
a good time
# Mar 08 2003 at 1:41 AM Rating: Default
i read about that guy who said he got 3 lvls in 4 hours... let me tell you something...

we had a necro, 3 druids and two beastlords... everyone made 3 hours in two hours... and we had about 7 recondites at us all the damn time... no one died except when the beastlords left and i had to get back there to help a friend... three of 'em backstabbed me to death... ******'s...
Shik'Nar
# Mar 04 2003 at 2:08 AM Rating: Decent
Seems like everyone forgot to mention the Shik'Nar. They look like something straight out of Starship Troopers and are awesome xp to about 22-23 when they start to turn light blue. They are an excellent alternative to the Fiends because they don't disease you and are very easy to single pull in most places. You'll find them in the northern most parts of the zone.

Crowded?

Is this place way to crowded, because on differen't servers I can't find a group....
Awesome Exp for 17+
# Feb 27 2003 at 1:38 PM Rating: Decent
Although I heard the rumors of how good the experience was here, I didnt realize just how good it was. Came here for the first time on the suggestion of my guild as a level 17 Paladin and left 4 hours later as a level 20. It was absolutely amazing.

We had 4 tanks (warrior, 2 pally, 1 rnger), 1 healer (shammy) and 1 nuker (wiz) and were able to manage even the toughest pulls. At one point, I think we had 4 recondites on us due to a bad pull but were able to survive without problem.

Loot is ok...bronze bigandine armor sells for a few PP but the weapons that most mobs have are just about worthless (few SP).

Need to have a group you can count on tho.

Sensate Reishi and Fiends
# Jan 18 2003 at 12:43 AM Rating: Decent
If you're lower level and don't like fighting over Camps 1 or 2, try the better exp.
The Sensate Reishi in the tunnel leading to Shadow Haven is a good mob for exp. It's on a 5 minute spawn time. At low levels of about 20/21 you'll get 1 blue from each kill and even betetr the lower you are. At 18 you can try this, and if the Elder spawns and it's to strong, ther eis always soemone in the zone willing to kill it for you.
Later, take the ramp and kill Fiends. The rmap is the path leading up and away from Camp 1 on the side opposite the ramp leading to Camp 2 and the named Recondite. At 20 and up thru 26 you can kill fiends up and down th ramp for great exp. They drop any items you can give to newbies for equip or sell for decent cash. I soloed up and down as my Necro. Move up the ramp and when you round to the right at the top, you'll see a narrow bridge. Cross that and go to the left. Keep goign until you think you should stop. Just make sure someone can cure diseases that's with you. Spreading Cloud and Creeping Crud will quickly suck away HP. Great exp though!
GREAT ZONE

At first when i came here i die about 4 times trying to solo patog fiends and such. of course i was lvl 16 so most of them were white or yellow. and no one wanted me in their group. but then at 17 i found this awsome bandit group of a 21 rng 20cleric 19 druid 23mage and later a 22 necro. the xp was awsome from all the bandits and the loot was good too. over 30 plat alone in coin rivaling the war room in High keep. i made about 67 plat in 3hours and am 3/4 to lvl 19.

Also the tunnels behind the fiend are with the crabs was good dark blue xp at 16-17 but the loot was pretty bad.
Happy hunting

Solo
# Dec 04 2002 at 5:03 PM Rating: Decent
I was here last nite with my 14 necro was in a group, 18 monk, 17 monk, 20 shadow knight, 16 cleric. I gained 4 lvls in 3 and a half hours and i was bottom feeding. All i have to say is awesome zone the mobs dont even run.
Easy solo
# Nov 27 2002 at 8:32 AM Rating: Decent
I pretty much solo'd from 21-25 here. Soloing is a joke. From 21 hunt those Patog Phlargs until you can solo the bandits, then just take a few from the camps. Since teh camps are so large people HAVE to share them and as a soloer you deserve your fare share. After like 10 minutes of haggling I was able to get my own tent to hunt at. Also ShadowKnights get Rem Dis. at 22 just so you know. Seen lots of SKs complaining for Rem. Dis. After 25 run out fast, this zone is boring.
fiends
# Nov 22 2002 at 8:09 PM Rating: Decent
where are the fiends in this zone?
RE: fiends
# Dec 18 2002 at 9:18 AM Rating: Decent
Plerg Phlarg Fiends are common near the Shadewaver's Thicket and Hollowshade Moore entrances. Patog Phlarg Fiends are common near the Shadow Haven entrance.

To get from any of the three exits mentioned, you'll have to get through both types.

If you're really having trouble with finding the fiends, you're not travelling far from the appropriate entrance. It takes under 1 minute (wihtout SOW) to get to patogs from Shadow Haven, even less time to get to Plergs from Hollowshade. from Shadeweaver's you have to go a little further. I'd say 90-120 seconds tops unless you lag really bad or are otherwise unable to move reasonably well.
RE: fiends
# Dec 24 2002 at 2:47 AM Rating: Decent
The only problem with those damn Fiends is the creeping crud that they infect you with. As a monk, I found it very difficult when soloing as I had to keep begging healers for a cure disease! Very unmonkly to have to beg for healing!

Other than that, PC is a great zone - I levelled from 18 to 22 in a few days of camping b1 and b2, and soloing fiends. It does tend to get a little monotonous, and quite busy now that the word has got around.

As for me, I'm porting back to Kunark and the Lake of Ill Omen!

RE: level here till what lvl?

I would say stick to the recondite bandit camps if you can until at least lvl 23. They can take you to 26, but many start turning green before then. If you want to continue in Paludal you can all the way to 27 or so, but then you'll find extremely few mobs worth xp.
Quality Zone
# Nov 14 2002 at 7:30 PM Rating: Decent
This zone is the best! I gained about a level per hour in a fast pulling group at bandit camps. The experience is still flowing like water at 20! Highly recommended for any characters 16-24. Be careful of the bandits though. They hit in 40's and like to group up to destroy you. The loot consists of gems and some bronze weapons and armor in my experience.

YES you can solo here... the mushrooms...at www.eqatlas.com/atlas.html it'll tell u where the mushrooms are...but MUCH better is getting into a group in palludial at the bandits and you can get loads of exp from doing that

I soloed here with my Beastlord all the way up to 25 here, I found a nice spot were I could safely pull from.

TO get to it you have to go through B1 (first camp) then you take a right and go past feinds. Then you should see a bridge, go over it and head a left, you should see a cave with 2 fiends gaurding it. Once in the cave you will see 2 mushrooms this is were I pulled to. The only danger here are the 2 owlbear cubs in the cave next to here, but they are easy to avoid as long as you dont stray too much. Anyways, you can either pull the mushrooms, fiends, or the beetles a little up more. Choices Choices Choices =) And it is a safe place to camp as long as someone doesnt train you that is further up the zone =( Happy Hunting !

Probably a bit late now, but my Mage went from 13 to 18 in three or four hours killing tunnelers (invis, turn right at the end of the first bandit camp, follow the ledge there past the fiends and take the third tunnel heading up on your right to find five or six tunnelers who can be single-pulled), then 18-24 not much slower killing fiends. Of course it helped that they had a free KEI for the last couple of levels when the fiends were starting to go light blue :).

One useful point to remember: a single cast of your lowest-level pet heal spell will cure crud on your pet; so Mages can cure them and Necros have no need to cast cure disease three times and waste mana. Of course if they get past the pet and hit you, you'll be spending a lot of money on phantom leather components to compensate for the hp loss!
#REDACTED, Posted: Oct 03 2002 at 12:07 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) hey everyone...i found a sweet spot where i can fight regular and mature mushrooms and phlerg phlarg feinds...AND THEY CAN NEVER EVER HIT ME!!!! they dont even move. this only works for casters only from about 8 absolute min with kei all the way to about 17 or 18... but by then bandits are better. u need a nuke spell. they CANT MOVE they just stay there. but if u move then u will be out of the spot then they will come hurt you.

Dear, oh dear, someone is just asking to be banned for using such an exploit. Remember, GMs don't show up on the user list unless they choose to, and do at times watch known exploitable locations for people taking advantage of them.

Personally I've found such spots in Paludal by accident and they're annoying because I try to pull the mob with a DoT and it just runs backwards and forwards, unable to find a path to me. I really wish they'd fix them because it's a pain to have to move around trying to find a spot where the mob can actually get to you so you can fight it.

shrooms man...
# Oct 03 2002 at 10:34 AM Rating: Decent
I went from level 16 to level 21 in one night with my druid, soloing the mature and elder shrooms between the big lake and the small lake by the hollowshade entrance. for the first 3 levels I had no KEI, the last 2 I did. shrooms are nice because they are non agro, non social, and they don't hit you with any disease or the like. it was much easier than the fiends, and every time I cleared the cave of 4 shrooms + the 1 outcast around the corner, I would get near a full yellow. the elders, which conned yellow at the start, gave me 2 blue each time until 19 or 20. this is the place to solo for a druid, or other caster types...the one drawback to the shrooms is they can hit rather hard, so keep 'em rooted and kepp you distance as long as possible.
Pain If You Don't Have A Guide!
# Sep 07 2002 at 1:41 PM Rating: Decent
I have had to get 2 characters thru here, Everything is indifferent except for Fiends to me as my Necro, and a lot of it green once I get past the Pharg Fiends, but wow! When you're trying to get to Shar Vahl and you get to run thru a lake of fiends? Unless you're a high enough level to kill 'em one by one or you have a nice guide to take them, simply put...Goodbye.There can be no slip-ups if you're trying to travel to and from the Hollowshade Moor to Shadow Haven, but if you take the Shadeweavers trail it is much easier and u'll get to a newbie like area soon enough where everything is very green to anything above lvl 10 and the tunnels in Shadeweavers is filled with everything that looks indifferent, but they may hold a grudge against vah Shir, not sure.

All you need for a good price for the loot is high charisma (110 is enough; 140 is the maximum that'll affect prices) and indifferent faction.

I was a little tentative to come to paludal because I thought the Luclin expansion was going to lag my system horribly (only running 128 RAM). To my surprise, I only experience a very small amount of lag and I must say Paludal is must for anyone wanting to level fast. I went there at 18 4 days ago. I only play for about 2 or 3 hours on average per day and as of right now I am lvl 22, 1 gold bub from 23. I do however have a question regarding the loot you get from reconites. Where is a good place to sell where you'll get the most money for the loot?
I'm a big fan of this place too

Hello,

I'm another big fan of this place. A guild friend recently recommended it to me and several other guildees of 18+ lvl. I've only played a couple of nights in groups but the xp is phenomenal! A constant stream of MOBs with some ok loot and just watch that xp bar motor along.

Would recommend it to anyone,

I have been to Paludal four or five times now. Have experienced very little lag on a weekend evening, and a lot of lag midweek, mid day. Running a little over a gig of ram on a cable modem. Not sure, but I think it's more server related than anything. Worst place is the bazaar. Brought a friend there little while ago for the first time. They were a little suprised to see as many people as they did sitting and facing the wall. Seems to be the only way I can pull up a bazaar window without wanting to send my computer through the nearest window.

Make sure your "clipping" is way down (options->video). Play around with it to see what works. For me, its 0 percent in much of Luclin. I have it maxed everywhere else.

You can also look down to reduce lag and bring up that /baz window.

Matteaus (the original poster in this thread) said that he has 1GB of RAM, so I don't think more RAM is going to help much. In fact, there's a very good chance that 1GB is the maximum that his motherboard will handle, since many consumer motherboards (meaning ones not intended for use in servers) tend to only support a max of 768MB or 1GB of RAM.
