Find Patriarch Lardalon in Shadow Haven south of The Nexus zone in area at -563, +1650, -55. Or look at the NPC page for him for the map location.

    You say, 'Hail, Patriarch Lardalon'

Patriarch Lardalon says 'It is a pleasure to meet you, _____. I am the residing High Priest of the House of Stout. Many have come to seek my guidance for I have seen many a foe in my fighting days. If you are interested in [lending a hand] to the House of Stout, I may have some tasks for you to complete'

    You say, 'lending a hand'

Patriarch Lardalon says 'Aye, its good to hear that! We need all the help we can get with all the dern [smugglers].'

    You say, 'smugglers'

Patriarch Lardalon says 'Well the smugglers are a threat to all that we have accomplished here they steal stolen goods and turn around to sell them and undercut all the merchants of our quarter. There is not much we can do about them now but in time I may need your help. For the time being however, if you wish to assist us there are other [tasks] which i need to be completed.'

    You say, 'tasks'

Patriarch Lardalon says 'I believe we have some letters and supplies that need a trustworthy courier to see that they reach their destination. With the problems of smuggling we are having lately we have had a shortage of honest folks outside of the Haven. Please see Coglixar for further information and inform him that you wish to assist.'

You can find Coglixar outside the building where Marchap Biddinight is (can use Find for Marchap). Or look at the NPC page for Coglixar for a map location.

    You say, 'Hail, Coglixar Xorlopodil'

Coglixar Xorlopodil says 'Hello there, _____. It's nice to meet you. Are you just passing through our fine city or do you have dealings you need to address to me personally? Also if ye know anyone that will want to assist with some deliveries to our mining contingent in the Paludal caverns let me know'

You say, 'I wish to assist'

Coglixar Xorlopodil says 'Ah Excellent, you must have been sent by our Patriarch. Well I have some goods that I need delivered to some different areas if you are still willing to [help].'

    You say, 'help'

Coglixar Xorlopodil says 'That is great to hear _____. I have a task for you to complete for me first and if you are able to complete it I may have other things for you in the future. I have heard word that some of our dwarf workers in the [mining operation] are in need of some food.'

    You say, 'mining operation'

Coglixar Xorlopodil says 'In the Paludal caverns our workers are starting to get very low on rations and are working with very old and tarnished mining utensils. I need you to deliver these rations to Daesorak first and then see what supplies he thinks they need. He is the one overseeing the operation and will be able to tell you what supplies he needs and what quanity [sic] is necessary.'

You receive a Bag of Rations. Head to the Paludal Caverns and look on your map for the Dwarven Miners (they are north and east of the Owlbear area, and west of where the Safe Tunnel part is). Speak to Daesorak Steelknuckle. Look at his NPC page for a map location.

    You say, 'Hail, Daesorak Steelknuckle'

Daesorak Steelknuckle says 'Lo there stranger what ya doin in ere? You know how dangerous it can be down ere! I be lucky I got some of da finest miners werkin for me. I sure do hope we get those supplies soon.'

Give him the Bag of Rations.

Daesorak Steelknuckle says 'Ah these must be from ol Coggo! Ye see I had sent out a few men to gather some new picks an such for the mining operation ere but they havent returned yet. Im really in need of some picks that are being held in Katta by a friend of mine. Will you [retrieve the mining picks] for me?'

PM me what you were trying to post so I can determine why our spam filter picked it up. We made some changes recently and I need to determine what is being filtered out.

I did just the first part of this quest by making the initial delivery to the miners in Paludal Caverns. At level 31 only a few of the Recondites would aggro on me and nothing else bothered me along the route to the miners. I suppose a brave low-level player who can cast invisibility would be able to handle the first part of this quest.

I bet that doing this first part of the quest a few times would bring any "non-shorty" players from dubious to apprehensive. The first time I did it, I became apprehensive from dubious, though I did Steaon's Delivery quest several times before this one.

The merchants of Shadow Haven seem to be very biased based on their height. Improving faction with the shorties means that you can buy what short players sold to the Stout merchants, since the taller merchants wouldn't deal with those players.

I did the Steon's quest enough times to be amiable to him, then I did the mining quest, and the shorties still glower at me. Sigh.

just as a note, this quest is definitely not for a level 1 to try. they say this quest is good for ANY level, while in reality, it is not. Pal Caves and Katta would eat anything below 15 for lunch.

    # Mar 06 2002 at 6:44 PM Rating: Decent
To get to katta there are 2 ways and both can be quite dangerous. One involves going through Grimmling Forest and Tenebrous Mountains abd the other involves going through Scarlet Desert. So I just never go to katta and repetadly get the rations from Coglixar and give them to Daesorak.

I've done the wole quest once and the ration part 7 times....i'm still dubious. I guess the faction change must be kinda small.

you can also go through fungus grove to get to twilight sea. if you can cast invis on yourself (indoors), then that is the safest way as tenebrous mobs can see through invis.

if you have camo (from the bazaar or the nexus) or can get invis cast on you, i recommend getting sowed as well. if the invis runs out before you make it to the teleporter in fungus, life will suck unless you are running fast. even then, a low level might now be able to take the hits to make it.

only being able to camo outdoors really sucks on luclin. wouldn't be so bad if the spell lasted as long as it was supposed to though instead of being unpredictable.

    2 Words...Sneak and Hide
    # Jan 20 2002 at 1:42 PM Rating: Decent
For you lower level guys and girls out there that are looking to do the minor quests in Shadowhaven for faction hits, and you are a little nervous of braving Paludal Caverns...remember those two words...SNEAK and HIDE...I have seen many a low-level ranger, warrior, and so on creep his way around the Recondite camps along the right-hand wall, sneaking and hiding...all the way to Shadeweaver's Thicket and back...not to mention doing this quest...

So, if you're careful, and practice your EverQuest slick ninja skills....this quest is an easy one.

    Hope this helps!

    # Apr 07 2002 at 1:02 AM Rating: Decent
Also a word of caution, there are traps along the walls called " a shower of spores" they are non tagetable and rain down a 8 point per tic dot as long as your near them. So take care running high in Paludal.
    RE: 2 Words...Sneak and Hide
    # Feb 26 2002 at 3:57 PM Rating: Decent

Another word: Camo or Invis. For some reason, the Nexus is considered an outside zone. So even if you can't find a caster to invis you, a ranger or druid can camo you. Of course the duration is random, but if you're primarily concerned with getting past the fiends or the bandits, it should last that long.
    RE: 2 Words...Sneak and Hide
    # Mar 27 2002 at 7:52 PM Rating: Default
When you arrive in the Nexus, look straight up and you will see what appears to be a long tunnel to the surface of Luclin. It doesn't look to be accesible from the Nexus platform, but maybe you can fall into it if you know where the hole is on the surface. Looks like a long, painful drop without lev though.....
They see thru sneak & hide :P
    # Jan 30 2002 at 10:26 PM Rating: Decent
Ummm, unless there was a patch recently that changed the mobs in Paludal, the Phlarg Fiends see thru rogue sneak/hide (and therefore definitely will see other classes trying to sneak.)
The mobs do not however see thru invis.
RE: They see thru sneak & hide :P
    # Mar 10 2002 at 11:41 AM Rating: Decent
Keep in mind that there also seems to be a level based modifier to determine sneak/hide success. I know a friend tried to get his Vah Shir Rogue back to Shar Vahl and Phlarg Fiends saw through his sneak/hide (and they didn't con indifferent) but I can run roughshod through there without any aggro whatsoever.

Make sure you're BEHIND the mob (or as close to behind as possible) and you shouldn't have a problem. Even if it means waiting for the mob to turn away, be patient and wait it out. It's much better to wait and get by than to rush and get killed.

I snuck through from Shadeweaver's Thicket to Shadowhaven last night with a 3rd Level Rogue. Walked in front of numerous Fiends while dragging two corpses. No problem at all. I think the chance for something to see through hide/sneak is random, unless the MOb is a caster with See Invis. Just remember to /con everything.

Im a dwarf pally and when i talk to the Patriarch in the Short and Stout section he sends you off to find Coglixar and when i talk to the merchants in the SnS section they say that they can't give me great deals until i talk with the Patriarch so im figuring that once you get the picks and the guys says how he's going to talk with the Patriarch about your job well done, if you back to the Pat. or even the merchants you might get a nice discount on supplies. But this is only a theory and im gonna try it out later on tonight. Oh and you might have to be a small race to really benifit from the quest because i think the faction hits are only in there.

I rate this quest as VERY Disappointing.

Beside faction, there was no point in doing this quest. There are several easier quests that dont lead you half way through Luclin, and keep you localized through 3 zones. I didnt see a huge faction increase after doing this quest 1 time. Went from Dubious to Apprehensive. With all the traveling involved, there either should have been a small reward, or a bigger faction adjustment. Especially for having to cross Teneb Mountains, most if not all mobs there see invis. I highly recommend doing the Trade Commisioner quest instead of this one.

    Happy Hunting!

    # Jan 18 2002 at 3:54 PM Rating: Default
The trade commissioner's quest that I think you were refering to looks great on the surface, but I noticed something, the big faction hit is only to Traders of the Haven, not House of Stout. House of Stout goes up, but much much slower. with my main I did the trade commissioner's quest about 10 times total so far (5 got me ally with Traders) however House of Stout is barely indifferent. Where I am getting at with this, is that this quest hopefully has a bigger hit for house of stout for those that would wish to increase that faction... I will admit though that I don't have anyway to confirm the size of the faction hits, but there is my thought.

Tynatwo Tones (bard song makes the trip to Katta much shorter ;)

I did this quest 8 times (24 +ve faction hits for Stout, I think you get 3 each time you do the whole thing) to get from dubious to apprehensive. So while the hits don't seem to be quite as big of some of the other quests give to other factions they are decent.

The slightly nice thing is that you can run several of the quests at once, e.g. Beriol's Research, Gemmed Sword Hilt and the Mining Operation, thus making the long run to Katta a bit more rewarding. Helps if you're a wizard of course, you can bind in Katta and gate back and forth to the Nexus :).

You don't actually have to do the middle part. When in the Caverns, just say 'I will deliver the letter to your wife', even if he didn't say that. He'll give you the quest anyway. So the only zones you have to go to are Shadowhaven and Paludal Caverns.

I know that you just have to say I will deliver the note to your wife, and he will give the quest letter to his wife, I was simply commenting on doing the quest in its entirety, and getting very few faction points, and no reward for doing it correctly. just think there could have been SOMEthing, even if it wasnt a great item, i would have been satisfied with a letter of accomplishment or something....you just feel silly after 3 hours of traveling for a wife to say how hard her husband works.

this is a good quest for faction. I don't know about other races, but 3/4 of merchants in shadowhaven wouldn't sell to me even after the amulet quest. Did this a bunch of times and now almost all of them sell to me, and like someone said before, prices of horses and other items really dropping.

im an iksar sk and am kos to Katta, found out after trecking thru dangerous zones for nothing. so i do the trade commisioner, and smuggler reports quests instead. smuggler report gives same faction as this mining "journey"
do the sales report quest instead

the sales commisioner by the bridge to paludal caverns gives u an easy quest(amulet of haven) that improves faction with the traders of haven, plus the house of stout, midst, and the other house(sorry cant think of it off hand). seems like this quest is a total waste of time if it only improves those two factions.

If you're going from the nexus gate to the bazaar he'll be on your right hand side between the two.

This quest actually starts with the Patriarch of the Stout sector in Shadow Haven.

He says that smugglers are causing a problem but first you need to prove yourself and directs you to speak with Cogg. So im guessing that after your faction has improved enough you might get a smuggler related quest the Patriarch speaks of.

I have done this quest probably 5-6 times and have yet to get any other response from the patriarch.

There is no easier way, the alternative routes go through much higher level zones.

If you hug the zone edges as much as possible and have invis up, the run through TM isn't that bad. A few mobs see through invis, but grimlings do not and they are the most common around the edges.

Exactly which zones do you have to go through for the easiest way to Katta?
And what level should you be before trying to get to Katta?
I have done the part where I got the letter from Daesorak but had no idea where Katta is. Would it be hard for a 39 cleric travelling alone with no sow or invis?

Shadow Haven -> Paludal Caverns -> Hollowshade Moor -> Grimling Forest -> Tenebrous Mountains -> Katta Castellum

Paludal is a fairly low-level zone (as you know if you have the letter from Daesorak :)), likewise Hollowshade Moor. However, without invis, getting through Grimling Forest may be pretty tricky - the zone to TM is right by a grimling village. And in TM you have to run past a couple of grimling caves.

So it might be kinda hard - get a friendly druid to come with you instead :).
    That's it.
