These "Simple Tasks" are a series of kill tasks that take place in current hotzones (see this wiki article for a list).

This task begins with Franklin Teek (map) in the Plane of Knowledge. He is located east of the entrance to the Guild Lobby.

You say, 'Hail, Franklin Teek'

Franklin Teek says 'Hello _____! Are you seeking an adventure? If so just tell me if you want to learn about opportunities for [level 20], [level 25], [level 30], [level 35], [level 40], [level 45], [level 50], [level 55], [level 60], [level 65], [level 70], [level 75], [level 80], [level 85] or [level 90]. I also have an [alternate] opportunity for level 90 adventurers.'

You say, 'Level 20'

Franklin Teek says 'You may wish to investigate (current Level 20 Hotzone). While you are there perhaps you would be willing to perform a [task] for me?'

You say, 'What task?'

Franklin Teek says 'Take a look at this list and see if there's anything that interests you!'

A window pops up with a list of "Simple Tasks" that range up to 10 levels above your character level.

You have been assigned the task 'A Simple Task - Level 20'

Complete the task that Franklin gave you.

You'll be asked to kill five of a certain type of mob in the given hotzone. Kill targets will vary by the day. The zone involved will always be the current hotzone for this level.

Kill 5 recondite cutpurses or bandits - Paludal Caverns

Kill 5 elephants - The Southern Plains of Karana

Kill 5 shamans - Upper Guk

Reward:
Simple Adept's Belt, Cloak or Mantle (for casters / priests)
Simple Combatant's Belt, Cloak or Shoulderpads (for melees / hybrids)
1 platinum
You gain experience!

Where are the Shik'nars?

Franklin Teek's "A Simple Task - Level 20" requires the player kill "5 Shik'nars" in Paludal Caverns. Problem is that I and friends haven't been able to find the Shik'nars in Paludal Caverns. Is the quest in error and meant for a different zone, perhaps?

Yes, folks would be well served to continue to exp in CR until everything there is blue (undead, gnolls, gators & bears).

These tasks result in a little bit of experience, a small amount of platinum, and the choice of one level specific piece of defiant armor. There are 6 choices, 3 combatant, 3 adept and each gives the choice of back, shoulders, and waist slot items. It's a nice way to grab a little extra while adventuring in a hot zone.

These also have a lockout timer of 18 hours. It doesn't matter which task you do, you are locked out of all his "tasks" for 18 hours, beginning when you first receive your task.

Hope this helps clarify things a bit.

worst quest ever.

recently returned to eq. the level 40 quest was easily completed by my mage at 39-41, the level 70 was easily completed by my druid from 68-76, the level 75, took the druid and a ranger.

but this quest. level 20 twinked warrior, and you kill nothing but level 25's, all of which add. not white or blues or lightblues, but reds and occasionally yellows. need to change it from everfrost, which has absolutely nothing for 20's (change hotzone as well) to somewhere a 20 can solo.
can't get task at level 11

The "simple tasks" are not the main reason for going to a hotzone. There are 3 reasons:

1) The XP/kill is raised in hotzones, so you level faster
2) A cool level-appropriate augment drops (me and my hunting buddy both got one...2 drops in about 50 kills)
3) The "simple task" quest.

I found that the XP from completing the task was about 2 blue bars. That's not too shabby of a bonus for doing what you're already doing (killing mobs). With AA doubler on (for the first half hour), and hunting LOIO, I was able to put on 4 levels in 3 hours. Plus an augment. Oh, and plus 1 pp :)
Why even do these?

So you are going to go out and kill mobs, in this instance 5 of the same mobs and the reward would be?

"Reward:
1 platinum
Experience"

Hmmmm.....you could just go do some other zone newbie quest and get more out of it.

If that's what the new Hot Zones have to offer....along with the frustration to get to them, doesn't seem to be a well thought out plan to get those zones that no one wanted to go to in the first place, populated.

Of course I could just be miss understanding the whole Hot Zone Theory.

Or I've finally found out the reason why I've suddenly found an interest in World of War Craft again.

I took this quest this evening on my level 20 bard, and I got "kill 5 iksars instead" so my guess is it is varied on what you will be killing.

The reward is the same, however.

Each of his quests vary by the day it is requested. So if you're whole group gets a quest on the same day, they will all have the same objective. Thus you can repeat them and have different objectives each day, but the whole group will always have the same.
