The max hit will be different with MOTM or without it. On Live, I'm guessing he does hit for 600. On TLPs with MOTM, I have seen a max hit of 863 -- perhaps you had some items with shielding on?

I was lucky enough to get King Tormax a few hours before the patch. After the patch, I checked several times and he was not up. the last check I got a tell before I gated out and he popped in front of me. 2 days 17 hours 45 minutes after patch. It just so happens it was 3 days 12 hours after the last kill. So I think this guy does not have his spawn timer interrupted by a patch.

Confirming faction from a kill on Oct 18th 2014 (after change so we can see faction adjustments):
The 2 negative (King Tormax & Kromzek) hits are -1500
The 2 positive (Yelinak & Dain) hits are +750

King Tormax last kill for me: 463,042 hp

on top of that, i killed him on 9/6 at 5 am. then i missed next spawn and got him again on 9/16 at 6 am. so it sure seems like a 5 day spawn cycle on KT to me. I was always told 6-7.

Fooled myself. the time between 9/6 and 9/16 is also perfect for 3 day spawn cycle. Turns out thats what it is. I got KT on 9/26 at 5:30 am then again on 9/29 at 2:45 pm.

killed on 6/5 at 3:53:18 pm, then killed on 6/8 at 2:41:09 pm. that's LESS than 3 days by a fair margin. its 2 days 10 hours 47 minutes 51 seconds. KT was not up 10 mins before that time. I had checked, then moved on and came back. So I don't know what the timer is, but its not 3 days plus something.

another edit. killed KT on 7/29 at 16:37. came back a few times on the 31st but wasn't up. next morning checked at 4:30 and was not up. went afk a few mins, came back at 4:38 and he was up. so 3 days 11 hours and approx. 55 minutes this time.

I could not stay awake any longer. the next morning he was up. so spawn timer was over the magical 3d12h mark.[Fri Aug 16 05:26:53 2013] You have slain King Tormax! . don't know how much past, but at least 5 minutes

75 Monk, 450AAs, + Cleric merc = Auto attack and afk for 25 minutes while you whittle his health down.

Doable, but make sure you clear out all the adds in the room first, and then focus on his two buddies before you take him down.

Come on now at 85 you run from zi pull everything doesnt matter to Tormax kill tormax guards everything / 1 85 tank / 1 tier 5 merc cleric np / then loot go turn in head / to yelnik not dain kill dain next o0

I just went in and did a circuit of the room, killed all the giants in the room, Tormax was alone and had no help.

i tried to do circuit, but soon as i attcked first giants whole room aggroed on me, tormak attcked me with 9 giants, killed all of them and got tormak down to 44 before mana ran out. 82 pally. 1 on 1 itd ve been np at all (

I pretty much took on the whole room at once, minus Tormax b/c he wasn't up. I did this with an 85 RNG 24k HP & 3kAC buffed, 2.0 and Feral Igneous Chopper. Damage shield,Barrage of arrows, and summers dew helped me burn down the crowd.

Think I'd still need a cleric to take down Tmax himself though, I only do about 880 DPS average, 1111 when Ive stacked 2.0, Auspice, and Outriders. With average damage that would be an 11:21 fight (assuming 600k hps). Can't wait to try him on for size.

Could an 82 ranger (Crystallos gear) with a cleric mercenary reasonably take on Tormax and his guards at the same time? Or is it really better to try to separate them?

Should be an easy duo! I was able to solo the room as an 80 cleric. I had ward to take down all the other mobs...so I would focus on the rest before dropping TMax. Shouldn't be a problem though...

Soloed as an 80 beastlord today. LONG fight. As a note he is NOT slowable, contrary to the info posted above. I recieved the "This target is immune to changes in its run speed" message when I tried.

Being immune to changes in run speed have nothing to do with if a mob is slowable or not. Run speed messages like that mean you can not snare/root a mob.

Took out KT w/ 75 Druid & 75 Pally demi+ geared. Was an easy fight. However just posting to let you know I stumbled upon an interesting pull. First kill the side mobs on either side (not the guards), kill all in hallway behind KT but leave one. Now snare pull the 1 mob that is in the back room behind KT and run back to the top area in front of KT out of aggro range. The snared mob will path back to you and aggro KT along the way BUT his 2 guards will stay put. Interesting enough I have tested this method on 2 seperate occasions and has worked both times be it luck or method. Anyhow hope this helps anyone on the KT pull.
P.S. Bugger dropped talisman and 3 no trade Axes lol so we got screwed on the loot. =/

In Kael Drakkal as always. He hasn't moved from his throne in years. But if you don't know where the throne room is, its the opposite direction of the arena.

Just soloed him right in his room, 17k/3.67self-buffed pal(with 2hs). Went down to 60m before killing his guards, but regen back up to fm when he's killed.
Plain easy for pals :P

Trio'd by a 75 warrior(19.6k/3400AC buffed) 75 bard and 75 druid twice in the last 3 or 4 days. Dropped the head, ST key both times, last night dropped the crown and 2 ears.

Wow, I remember being in a guild sending 30 people to kill Vindi, and often wiping. Now I can duo him. The game just isn't same :-(

Must be why I was able to find him up, peeps just aren't killing him anymore. AOW still gets downed on respawn however

King Tormax is easy to get solo... The thing is that he runs faster than his guards so pull him to zone in and zone out and have ur group tag him. if u plan to solo him, should prolly pull him to EW zone line since it is farther and gives him a chance to ditch his guards. Only lowbie giants in the way that wont aggro when you pull him as he paths back to his throne

I didn't know he outran his guards actually. Tried it lastnight.
Ran him to ew zone line and fd'd, then yoyo'd him for a bit so his guards got a big run back to their spawn, then fd'd to clear them.

70 beast can easily get KT single all he has to do is pet pull the guards away from KT and kill guards then pull KT. Did that earlier today and killed him. Not sure if a 70bst could solo him because we had a 16k bst fully raid buffed tanking him and i had to Cheal him 10times during the fight although we didnt slow KT not sure if he can be slowed.

Well I have duoed KT. If I can get him solo anyways. His low hit on me is 92 and Max hit was 545.

Most of the old school mobs really arnt as hard as they used to be. I remember killing them with raids of 70+. Hell we killed AoW the other day with 5 people. My first raid on him was with 80 peeps.

Guess things just change.

um....What Kalysta said. Plus even today as long as it's not an instanced zone with a raid limit, you can have as many people as you want on a single mob, just the 72 in the raid will get exp (kinda like the old KS group except now a KS raid). That means 200 people could go kill KT now if they wanted to...

There was no raid tool back then.
Raids were as many as you wanted.
Only one group, called the KS group, would get the exp. Anyone else had to wait until the corpse allowed loot rights.

Not really about the hp.
It's all about the ac.
A 15k tank will still die faster than a 13k if his ac is paper.

Bah, Kalysta, AC is broken. My best friend is a 75 War with over 19k raid buffed and he tells everyone its all about HPs HPs HPs.... He is one of the lowest AC Wars on the sever and tanks better than any I have seen, he is MT of all the raids and takes hits better than tanks that go after AC. He said after 2k AC it does nothing.

for one, the "over 2k does nothing" is a bad rumor, started by a misquote that no one has corrected, but some warriors spread it around to make themselves feel better for going after hp. Currently, a lot think it's 3k now.

The softcap is 1300 . Anything up to 1300 gives 100% returns.
Anything over, gives 66%ish returns. Shield ac ignores it. So if you have a 130ac shield, your softcap is now 1430 , with anything above that giving 66%.

AC is always scaling. More ac, less damage spikes, the easier you are to heal.
The part that warriors are confusing in all this is defensive vs ac.
A mob's attk hasnt been scaled properly since GoD/OoWish. So at the moment, each minor ac increase is doing more than it should.
Defensive saves xx percent of incomming damage. Great when ac only hit 1200ish during velious, it allowed them to out tank anyone. Then again in GoD when the mob's attacks made another huge jump.
Now however, once you pass a certain amount of ac, defensive isn't as good. It is an outdated disc.

Out of all that, some warrior misquotes and says "anything over xxx ac is useless" , and other sheep follow it so they can make their magelos look uber with high hp while sacrificing their tanking.
Now, if they stop getting ac at 2k, but their content gets harder and harder, of course they aren't going to notice swapping in one 10ac aug, when they should already be a few hundred ahead.

We have 25khp warriors in our guild. But with only 3300-3500 ac (because they think hp is what matters) , defensive drops, and they go splat.
The 19k/4300ac sk can tank easier than them, and the healers notice.


People have tested both ways too. Kelefane I think it was, an sk spent about 15k swapping augs around. Dropped all ac augs for about 2k more in hp. All the healers were asking if he forgot to put on some gear because he was suddenly harder to keep healed. Swapped back, and all was right in the world.
When you are dealing with 5k+ hitters, 2k in hp augs is nothing compared to what the ac can save you.

You only need enough hp to survive being one-rounded by the content you are tanking. The rest can be ac. Which then lowers the hp you need, which allows more for ac, and so on, and so on, and so forth...

your "warrior friend" is pretty clueless if he thinks ac doesnt help.
He should talk to Bedaviir, probably one of the best warriors posting on the warrior board (steel warrior)

Damage prevented is always better than damage healed.

know this is a semi old post, know kelefane who plays on BB(sol ro) server. when it comes down to it, ac<hp on warriors. when you have a mod that hits for 10k with defensive on, ac wont save you. the sk's go splat regardless if they got 5k ac or not. it only makes a noticble difference on groups where the 3k hits are normally around 1k level

excellent post, even as a 65 ranger i notice the difference when i started to switch to more AC then HP. Yeah those hp are nice when you are trying to brag but when it comes down to that mob owning your butt or you owning it u see the difference.

And centi's were uber, and items that had stats AND hp were awesome.

And the EC would give you a headache just running through, but it was always so lively.
