This spell line does have some select uses. Particularly before you get your Protection of the Cabbage/Glades type skin. IMHO, it is a good way to recover a little faster after a REZ out in the wild due to its low mana cost. Others feel it is useful in a situation where you are parked at a "camp" and someone else is pulling mobs to that location (outdoors, of course).

There is a catch, however...

Some years ago, the various treeforms were blocked in nearly every zone I tried This seems to have changed recently, at least a bit. If you think you have a use for this, try Treeform (Lvl.6) or Spirit of Ash (Lvl. 36) in the zone(s) you wish to use Spirit of Oak. If the lower level versions work (ie. cheap vendor purchase) you may want to seek out this spell.

Wish I had more time to try out treeforms in various outdoor zones and give a full report.
Pretty useless

Wasted 2k to get this. Only reason you should buy this is if you dont have the spell protection of the cabbage, it wont stack with it. Only cost appx. 5k to get POTC, and nice earring.
funny as heck!

Lol this is no spam post. But it is somethign that is cool and freaks people who see it out. Ok well as of the last time I tried.. this DID work. Anyhow.. I have my druid be a tree and cast Dizzying wind on me itll make the tree ACTUALLY move.. lol not the best way to move around but you sorta hop not far but.. it sure is cool. Anyways Druid's it seems havent got hit by the nerf of Throwing in the air.
why?

I cant figure out why anyone would use this line of spells. Please let me know why you use it (if you do)

Before I was "uber" (NOT! haha) and had some decent cash for chanter buffs and/or mana gear, I used this spell all the time. I would typically be in a group or duo and set up a camp site. I'd change into a tree and my group/partner would then pull back to me. The cool thing is that you can sit or stand while in Tree form, and if you're standing you won't (hopefully) get aggro, but still get the regen (i honestly don't know if stting/standing affects the regen rate). So, they'd pull back, I use F9 to change my view point to a good angle so I can keep an eye on everyone and the mob. You can cast in Tree form so all was good. I used to use it in DL all the time if we were close enough to the treeline. Kinda freaked some people out, but I didn't seem to find anyone who opposed the idea :)

ps...all this info was true as of the last time I used Treefom regularly...which was a long time ago. any info *could* be out of date at this time. happy hunting
It Works But Won't Stack . . .

I was getting the "Spell Would Not take hold" message with this one.

My experimenting indicates that it:

Will NOT stack with Protection of Cabbage - A skin that has hp and mana regen bonus

Will Stack with Natureskin - a skin that has HP but no mana regen bonus

Will Stack with Mask of the Hunter - a non-skin with mana regen and vision bonuses.

My conclusion is you can't have this on with a mana regen skin (do not know about Po9 yet)

Which limits its usefullness. To get the HP regen bonus you have to sacrifice Mana Regen (6 for PoC vs. 4 for Spirit of Oak) and in addition you lose the HP from the PoC so are more vulnerable while sitting there rooted and medding. Then if you want your PoC back you have to spend 500 mana when your are done medding.

I haven't bothered to do the math but it its probably better to leave your PoC on (assuming you have it) for the increased mana regen and just cast a heal on yourself (it is one of the things we druids do). At least that would be faster and would avoid the recast cost of PoC (assuming you had to take it off to cast the Spirit of Oak).

Thanks for the experimentation with stacking. I was too lazy to do it myself haha.

I was thinking the same thing about its usefulness, so after reading your post, I went back and compared the spell data. If you happen to have lost your PotC (bad druid for not keeping an eye on it *giggle), and you happen to be extremely low on mana, then this comes in handy. I doubt I'll ever be in this exact situation, but IF it were to happen this spell is great. Only 25m for a 4 per tick mana regen... won't take you long at all to get up enough mana to cast PotC (500m cost) and sit yer happy druid butt back down to recover that 25 and get your 6 per tick :) *shrug* Ya just never know, I guess.

I have had the same problem with this one as well, and I had no other buffs up at the time. Although I have had other tree form buffs up in PoK....great for getting in the way of the Nexus Portal :)

The treeform spells were not working recently, but the issue *may* have been fixed. See the discussion for Treeform:

https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/spell.html?spell=258

Not sure how the fixes (if any) relate to the different versions of this spell.

Jaggedpine bug?
# Jun 03 2004 at 1:06 AM Rating: Decent
I recently recieved the message "You are unable to change form here" when attempting to cast this spell in Jaggedpine Forest.

And that was with a tree directly in front of me and no buffs on me.

I was also in no other form (such as wolfform)

Does anyone know why that is?

It won't work if you are already under another illusion, such as wolf form.

You have to be able to have a Tree in your Line of Sight, and it has to be a certain distance, but not too sure on that distance.
