At the end of the previous quest, Garadain mentioned a favor.

You say, 'What favor?'

Garadain Glacierbane says 'For several seasons there has been an unsolved mystery in this land. Not far from here an elite team of Coldain and their trained wolves were gathered to make a strike at the Kromrif. No one knows just what became of our strike force. Bring me proof of their fate and proof that whoever was responsible for their loss is no more.'

To find proof of their fate, your journey begins with Korrigain, located in the southwestern corner of the zone. He generally spawns around 9 PM gametime at the dwarven hut near Icefang, the named dire wolf.

You say, 'Hail, Korrigain'

Korrigain says 'Who dares disturb my rest? If ye be a friend of the mighty Coldain, then show me proof and I shall tell you of my plight. If not, then be on your way.'

Give him your Obsidian Coldain Insignia Ring.

Korrigain says 'Many seasons ago I stood here in life with my comrades, the best warriors Thurgadin had to offer. Along with our faithful wolven army we were poised to eliminate the Kromrif presence in the region. Somehow, the enemy was made aware of our plans and just before our attack, a group of Ry'Gorr oracles charmed our wolves, forcing them to tear down their own masters. We were caught by surprise and died a savage death.'

During the conversation with Korrigain, Icefang comes out of his hut and stands next to Korrigain, who then proceeds to buff his loyal doggie sidekick.

Korrigain says 'All that remains from that battle is my loyal Icefang. He will not rest until I am avenged. Follow and watch after him. He alone knows where our attackers lie and he cannot overcome them by himself. May Brell bless you with success, farewell.'

Icefang then runs generally east to the orc hut near the bridge to Iceclad Ocean. His route is not direct and his speed is around Spirit of Wolf speed. Wandering orcs and giants will aggro on him, so you must keep him alive en route.

When he gets to the orc hut, two to four of "An oracle of Ry`Gorr" spawn, along with Poxbreath Yellowfang, their leader.

You have slain Poxbreath Yellowfang!
Your faction standing with RyGorr Clan Snow Orcs got worse.
Your faction standing with Citizens of Froststone got better.
You gain experience!!

--You have looted a Note from Kromrif.--

The note reads:

Commander Yellowfang, Your handling of the Coldain elite guard was outstanding. It will take the stumpymen many years to recover from that slaughter. My superiors are well pleased. Your loyalty and service to the Kromrif have sealed an alliance between our peoples that we shall honor from this day forward. The bulk of this treasure is for you to distribute among your men as you see fit. We ask that you provide well for your coldain informant, Rodrick Kotrad, as your success would have been impossible without his cooperation. Surikka Squatnot

The coldain traitor is really one Rodrick Tardok, who spawns in the small tower outside the northwest corner of the Ry`Gorr Keep. Every once in a while a Ry`Gorr Emissary will spawn there.

Ry`Gorr Emissary says 'Where is that sniveling little worm?'
Ry`Gorr Emissary says 'He was supposed to be here hours ago!'
Ry`Gorr Emissary says 'I don't know why the chief tolerates this insolent fool. If he is discovered he'll betray us for sure.'
Ry`Gorr Emissary says 'If he makes me wait another minute I'll gut him myself...'
Ry`Gorr Emissary says 'Ahh, good to see you my little friend, I was beginning to think something had happened to you.'

If you leave him alone for a few minutes, Rodrick will spawn inside the tower.

You have slain Rodrick Tardok!
Your faction standing with RyGorr Clan Snow Orcs got worse.
Your faction standing with Citizens of Froststone got better.

-- You have looted Rodrick's Head --
-- You have looted Dirk of the Traitor --

Keep the Dirk, as it is used in the 9th quest in this series.

Turn Rodrick's Head, the Note from Kromrif, and your Obsidian Coldain Insignia Ring to Garadain.

Garadain Glacierbane says 'Excuse me, ______, aren't you forgetting something?'
Garadain Glacierbane says 'Excuse me, ______, aren't you forgetting something?'
Garadain Glacierbane lowers his head and mutters, 'At least there will be some closure for their families, thanks to you. The Ry`gorr will pay for this with their lives! I will ask you to help us in the invasion of Ry`gorr keep, but first I have a delicate [mission] I was hoping you'd handle.'
Your faction standing with Coldain could not possibly get any better.
Your faction standing with Dain Frostreaver IV got better.
Your faction standing with Kromzek got worse.
Your faction standing with Kromrif could not possibly get any worse.

If Icefang isn't in the hut...

Just a heads up to anyone ready to trigger this event.

If Korrigain is up and Icefang is not in the hut, it is most likely because someone is following him to the Poxbreath spawn point. If you turn in your ring to start the quest, Icefang will despawn for the person following him and respawn in the hut.

Since Korrigain is not a contested spawn and does not despawn, be courteous and ask if others are done yet before you begin.

While hanging out by the CC exit tower, eventually the Ry'Gorr Emissary spawns, and walks back and forth in front of the door to the tower, muttering to himself:

[Mon Apr 28 00:45:43 2014] Ry`Gorr Emissary says 'Where is that sniveling little worm?'
[Mon Apr 28 00:45:46 2014] Ry`Gorr Emissary says 'He was supposed to be here hours ago!'
[Mon Apr 28 00:45:52 2014] Ry`Gorr Emissary says 'I don't know why the chief tolerates this insolent fool. If he is discovered he'll betray us for sure.'
[Mon Apr 28 00:45:55 2014] Ry`Gorr Emissary says 'If he makes me wait another minute I'll gut him myself...'
[Mon Apr 28 00:47:11 2014] Ry`Gorr Emissary says 'Ahh, good to see you my little friend, I was beginning to think something had happened to you.'

The Emissary has popped within ~10 minutes of killing Poxbreath both times I've completed this quest. Rodrick always spawns just over a minute after the Emissary arrives. After he pops the Emissary makes his final comment above. Then they both die, so I've never seen the Emissary walk back to the fort... :-)

67 Warrior just completed this part of the quest. Was pretty easy. There were 6 or 7 orcs at the camp when I arrived there. Green and Grey con to me. They managed to kill Icefang but quest still worked with the head and dirk.

Just a boring follow around and no roamers again amazingly.
Tips on Poxbreth Yellowfang
# Jul 27 2007 at 12:17 PM Rating: Decent
I think most of the strategies devised in these posts would work. I took down Pox about 10 min ago. Poxbreath (light blue to me) and 3 oracles (blue to me) spawn when Icefang gets close to the camp, I am a lvl 54 necro. Took me 3 tries and this is why. First time, after Icefangs death I had my pet with me on the SOUTH side of the hut. I tried to cast (fear I think) and was too far away BUT not too far away to agro Pox and the casters. They promptly came and started beating on us (the casters buff themselfs with sow or something like it) I could not get off casts so I beat feet. Told pet to back off but he was taking too much damage and kept on fighting. So I just continued North and then zoned to get new pet and buffs. Second time I was North of the hut and had parked pet a couple hundred feet north of me. I cast snare on Pox, hoping to bring the rest with me to Dobbins hut. Well again they hit me with dot and pet aggroed etc. Was able to finally kill the one that followed me. Went back and Pox had despawned, although the one oracle was still there. The third time I was North again and had parked my pet a couple hundered feet behind me. I then went in targeted Pox backed way off and cast fear and kept moving forward until it landed and Pox started running to the WEST. I also got an oracle add, which I was able to root (after taking a couple of whacks). I then took off after Pox and told pet to back of (he was going for oracle) and follow me. By the time I caught up with Pox fear had worn off and he turned on me. I snared him backed off then DOT DOT DOT. By this time pet was on him. Took about 1.5 - 2 min to kill him. Other oracle did not come after me since I guess I had put enough distance between us.
To sum up:
1. The agro range is insane. I don't think you will be able to hit him without already being in agro range UNLESS you have an extended range item.
2. If you are a fearing class and choose to fear, he will run West.
3. The oracles are at least a couple lvls higher than Pox.
4. Oracles buff them with speed enhancement. I just barely kept ahead of them with the Fabled Bootstrutters (no sow).
5. Can easily be done solo, probably by 50+ but you should scout the area and know where you will pull to and how you are going to do it before setting Icefang in motion.

6. Pox seems to despawn fairly fast within 1 - 2 min max. Also he despawned before the Oracles. He also spawned AFTER the oracles.
Single Pulling Poxbreath
# Feb 12 2005 at 2:11 AM Rating: Decent
I, Sanctimonius Pontificus, Holiest of Paladins, have this day single pulled and thoroughly smited Poxbreath, despite losing the damnable wolf on the way.

As I was following the wolf, he did a little Barry Sanders-esque Juke move on me and disappeared.

Calling the wrath of Marr down on the slippery canine I nevertheless resolved to scout out the Rygorr camp in case Poxbreath spawned anyway.

Lo and behold, as I get to the camp (just North of the bridge to Iceclad) I see a few too many orcs hanging out by the fire. I inch closer... closer... suddenly one of the orcs peels off and charges. It's none other than Poxbreath in all his halitosial glory.

Praise Marr for the beating I then delivered upon him, leaving his lifeless corpse bleeding in the snow.

No sign of the wolf anywhere at this point, so I question whether or not you need to follow the flea-bitten cur at all.

This is neat. Have a full quiver of arrows, and have trueshot up.

Stay out of aggro range. Let icefang die. Sorry, icefang. =/

Start Tracking Pox now. it'll make it easier in a minute.

Shoot Poxbreath Yellowfang. All the dark blue orcs aggro you, including pox. Snare *only* Pox. Now train the others to a coldain camp nearby (the dobbin crossaxe camp to the north is convenient for this). Since you have only damaged Pox, the little dwarves will easily take aggro from you. Once the other orcs are preoccupied with the coldain camp, run back to pox (you're still tracking him, so this should be easy). Who wins between orcs and dwarves is irrelevant - you'll clear their aggro range when you go back to poxbreath.

root pox. dot pox. click trueshot and unload on him. rinse & repeat as necessary.

If you wanna be really safe, you could easily pull him to the iceclad bridge to fight, no risk of adds, but I didn't bother and it worked out ok.

Other classes, improvise as necessary but basically the same. If you snare pox, you'll prolly lose him right by the hut, cuz he'll stop to cast and you should be running and SoW speed, leaving him in the dust. So if you lack track, look for pox back around the hut, he shouldn't have gone far.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't popping trueshot on a rooted mob kind of a waste? 51+, you get your innate double archery damage to any UNROOTED stationary mob. Thus root basically halves your bow DPS before Trueshot... which then doubles it back to where it normally is.

If you get a tank to stand there and get beat on while holding aggro, that's the only time you're getting the full benefit out of your bow dps and Trueshot. :)
coords for Icefang
# Oct 16 2004 at 11:17 AM Rating: Default
Did this today with the help of a friend. Poxbreath does still spawn. You DO need to follow Icefang around to help him out, and he does need to make it somewhere near the Ry'gorr camp for Poxbreath to spawn.

When Icefang takes off, its rate of travel is Run2 speed. it starts of heading East and hits these coords in succession:
NEG 7685, POS 793
NEG 5041, Neg 306 and
NEG 4338, POS 30
before heading east again toward the bridge. At LOC -3353, NEG 2919, Icefang "sniffs the ground and growls" which at that point might be the trigger for the Poxbreath spawn. Icefang runs into the camp and engages the 1st orc it comes to. Several of the Oracles dropped Orc Fang Earrings.
Good Luck.

Warning: Pox gates
# May 02 2004 at 1:02 AM Rating: Default
Just a warning, Pox gates so be ready to stun/bash to interrupt. I was soloing this part of the quest, followed icefang to the camp, agro'd Pox and a few oracles, ran the oracles to the coldain camp and peeled them off, went back for Pox, caught up with him about halfway to the camp, fought him down to about 20 percent and he got off a gate (grrr). I still had him targeted so I could see he got the initial hp back from gating and then some of the oracles healed him back up to 60 percent, and then POOF! he despawned and I lost the target. Now I have to wait for the dwarf to spawn again.

I did this solo with my 56 Shaman. When I got to the orc camp by the bridge I stayed well away while Icefang ran into the camp. The orcs kill him easy and then stand around for a bit. I targetted Pox and slowly moved closer till I could hit him with Turgur's Insects (a slow spell). As soon as I did they all aggroed on me; Pox and the shaman. As they were running toward me one of the shaman stopped to nuke me. When the nuke hit me my pet ran towards the shaman and attacked him. All the other shaman then stopped and attacked my pet but Pox continued to come after me. I ran towards the bridge and Pox followed me. When I got far enough away from the shaman I stopped and rooted Pox, hit him with some DOTs and finished him with nukes. My pet was dead by then and the shaman didn't come after me 'cause I was way out of their aggro range. I waited 'till they despawned and then finished the quest. The funny thing was I had already killed Rodrick and had the head and dagger in the bank 'cause I didn't know what they were for.

You guys read a bit too much into this.

Almost every single time I go to the Ry`Gorr fort one or both are up. If not just sit there, the emmissary, as far as I can tell, is on a ten to twenty minute spawn timer. After four to five minutes, Rodrick spawns and will aggro you if you're close.

Or, the REAL trick to get him to spawn, is to make a newb char, go into CC, get beat up to a bub of health, then zone out, this is almost a guarantee that Rodrick will wait to pick you off on the other side :P
Easy solo Rings 6 & 7
# Jun 02 2003 at 11:18 PM Rating: Decent
I was level 60 when I did this, but you can probably do it much lower on 6 and a little lower on 7.

On 6 you just need SoW, make sure you get aggro from Pox while Icefang lives. When the dog dies start running for the Coldain camp with Garadain. You will outrun aggro on all the mobs except Poxbreath and any oracles that SoW themselves before u get out of range. When you get to the camp, turn around and head back. As you get aggro on mobs, bring them back to dorfs if it is not Poxbreath. I got two oracles before Poxbreath. I imagine you have limited time to do this, but you do not need to stick around after pulling the oracles through the coldain.

On 7, pull Warden Burke from behind the ruin where he spawns (there is a ridge so you have line of sight). He will run through the wall. The guards will spawn, but if he clears the ruin before they can get to him they will just despawn. Warden Burke is pretty MR, but I was able to solo him with HoV and a pet. I would not suggest doing this with less than 4000 hit points and a way to self heal a bit in battle. SoW will outrun Burke if you can get stuff to land so he may be kitable, but at 60 all I could land were lifetaps.

Once you free the dorf see below for tactics. It works well, but be advised that the giants and orcs will walk through Garadain's camp and kill him on their way to the Ry'Gorr fort so you will have to wait for him to respawn.

Korrigain's Proof
# May 10 2003 at 2:28 PM Rating: Decent
Korrigain asks for proof that you are a friend of the Dain. Offer him your ring and he will give it back to you and call for his pet Icefang. Be patient, it will take a minute for Korrigain to send Icefang off, but he will eventually. Follow Icefang across the zone to the Ry'Gorr camp that is north of the IC bridge. Once he gets there, the oracles will come out and attack him. i found there were close to 10 of them, including Poxbreath. I had a rogue friend (lvl 61) tank all of them until I could get a bead on Yellowfang. Once I singled him out and intimidated him away from the group, I was able to wear him out without a problem. our Cleric took care of heals on the rogue.

Poxbreath Yellowfang cons LB to a lvl 61, so I'd say he's low 50s. As was reported by Anonymous, his melee is awful. He hit me once for around 100, but everything else was in the 30s, and very few of them landed. But if you think you're going to kite him away, make sure he's snared. He runs as fast as RS3.

Rodrick
# Apr 11 2003 at 9:26 PM Rating: Decent
Yes, Roderick is still spawning....got the Emmisary on track while heading to PoK after a Shawl quest. Decided to follow him to CC exit, and about five minutes later, Rodrick popped...waited a few more and Emmisary left. Rodrick resists roots, snares, and my Swarm of Pain dot. However, fire based magics seem to work normally. Unfortunately for me, a snow griff aggroed immediately after I started tangling with Rodrick. Feared the griff, but was low on HP, so ran from Rodrick in opposite direction of the griff. Occasionally I'd turn around to Firestrike the dorf til he turned to run. Hope this helps. Watch those extra agros...they can be killers.

TZ went down today and about 5 hours later rodrick spawned. I had been camping him before and not seen hm once. Didn't kill Emissary after Rodrick spawned and 10-15min. later Emissary would repop and spawn Rodrick again. Did this ~10 times for random people in zone and guildies. If you get him after a patch or crash, keep him up as long as possible becasue it seems this is the only way to get him.

1/15/03
from 11:15 to 11:45 PST all servers went down for a patch.
later that night (say 6-7pm PST) i killed rodrick. four times, consecutively. so he doesn't take 5 days after server down to spawn.
i'm a 51 ranger using swarmcaller, ikky regen bp, innate regen 1, and self buffs. killed rod using toe-to-toe melee. so he is pretty easily soloable, but he seems to be 100% MR (not fr, cr, dr, or pr though). keep that in mind if soloing. i already had his head and dagger from an accidental run-in with him (before even knowing what he was for), so 1st head and dagger went to a random person who was doing the quests, 2nd H&D went to a person who didn't make it there in time for the first set, 3rd H&D rotted while i yelled at my SK friend to get to EW, and 4th H&D he picked up.

spawn info - once emisarry spawns, triggers rodrick, and despawns, just killing rodrick will cause emisarry to spawn again a few minutes later(which lets you repeat the cycle ad infinitum). however, it is my understanding that aggroing/killing the emisarry will make the spawn timer all weird again.

so just make sure your buddies/guildmates know you're doing this quest, and to let you know if they see rodrick - after all, with the rapid respawn rate, there's plenty of heads to go around. with any luck, you can turn a boring camp into a lucky break.
