i being a lvl 30 wizzie trying to help my buddy get some focus items out of najeana satyed there for 2 hours and didnt get A drop but as for there life they are one nuke for 240 b4 they buff themselves then they try to walk away =)
I killed Rathyl and the mages outside his room for a short period of time (5 spawns of each), and ended up with a broom and a torch, and the torn page of mastery of Fire dropped off one.
The named guy who pops between the two mages outside Rathyl's room, dropped a blackened sapphire, a cloth cape, and a throwing knife. Same thing each time, nothing else for me.
And Rathyl refused to drop any of the weight reducing bags. Too bad those damn keys don't stack. I ended up destroying the multiples, because they dropped every time.
So that was a total of 11 mages (one popped instead of rathyl once), and 4 rathyls. got 2 of the focus thingies. Seemed pretty common.
Killed these stupid mages for over three hours and only got the stein. There is one a little in then another then two others in a room to the left. YOu can fall down invis floor. kill that dumb ogre but have a key with you to open door. Little gimp halfling will help ogre for some reason and he hits decent. Just go around and kill all mages but watch out cause everything is kos unless your level is high. Left that place and went to CT killed gators for an hour and got the other three. Take a risk get rewarded. Play it safe and plan to be there forever
ok, well I am a lvl 20 magi on Druzzil Ro, some very nice people are willing to test this, lower lvl Magi's using focus items, futhermore,
To any magi without the neccary items, ie the toes, stay in Wc until someone drop the HG they will prob just give it to you, I had a high lvl necro give them to me before I knew what the toes where for..
when i got to Najena i was trying to find some magicians to kill for the torn pages of mastery. i dont know how deep i went becuase the next thing i knew, i fell though ans invisible floor and into a cage. in order to get out of the cage i need a key, but good thing there was an another mage there who has the key to let me out. i want to know who drops the key so i am able to get out of the cage next time if i fell in. also i would have gated out there, but i dont want to bind at najena and lose my bind spot in a differ zone.
in one of the cages you fall into you can look to the left and there is an opening and the other just run at the door and keep running and you will run through it
ima mae and i spent a week down there and didnt have a single item drop for my focus's i had to accept the shovel and broom from friends...i still need the torch and stien, while i was down there though i had offers for 3 shovels after i had one...are they the more common of the drops? or is it all totally random..cause it seems to me that the torch and stien are almost impossible!

The burning rapier is used in the rogue epic, so I guess you could say that the sparkle purse is for the epic as well, but it drops in Sol A, not Najena
Also i think the level range for these magicians seem good enough. When i was there some went down with one Flame Bolt Spell while others took 2 or 3 spells which did 154 161 161. So that should help you a bit Throbclobberski
These guys range from 18 to 20. And the quest is said to be for level 34 up because if you're gonna kill to get all the items for the quest then you should be at least level 34 i would love to see a level 19 try solo a Hill Giant
The four focus item quests are listed as 34th level quests because one of the components is a set of giant toes. It is possible to obtain all four sets of toes at level 34 through normal combat.
The jury is out as to exactly how much benefit the focus items provide prior to level 34. Official word is that the stat bonuses take effect starting at level 4.
The effect can be a little hard to see prior to at least level 29 or so, simply because stat enhancements at early levels don't have a major impact on combat ability (for players as well as pets). Also, the 34 pet is the first to get the size enhancement from the focus items.
If you purchase your giant toes, or find some higher levels to fetch them for you, you can complete the quest at a fairly early point, definitely by level 20 or so.
Magicians in Najena are easier and safer to fight than alligators in Cazic-Thule; however, the drop rate for the focus items is a little slower.
well actually, it is a quest that affects magicians OF the 34th lvl...but yes the magicians themselves are quite easy.. my pet at 34 could solo em without hardly any life loss at all...just a pain in the butt cuz it takes SOO long for them to drop something... hope this helps!
I am currently a lvl20 magician with the broom of trilon and I did get the bigger pet graphic and it seems that the pet has more HP(which is what the broom does for the air pet)
ok i have been into najena and killed rougly 20 or so magicians by the gate way which says najena. anyways i havent got a signal quest piece out of them so i was wondering if you needed to go further into najena to kill them? Also i was wondering if the goblin magicians drop them too. Theres no way on my server, tallon zek, that darkies will sell them to me, so i really need some help in which magicians actually drop them please?
you can get the 4 basic items for the quest in cazic also off the crocs that spawn by the golems dont need to go to najeena and kill the mages for them Tiny Mage of the Rathe
What I have heard was that you get the bigger graphic for the pet and maybe the full effect at 34 only, but get some or all of the effect (minus bigger pet graphic at least) before then.
Then again, who knows? Can't think of a way to make sure.
Actually, you can find out pretty easily. The items give a hit point bonus to the pet as their primary effect, and if you use them below 34, they don't give any bonus.
Finding out how many hit points a pet has is a simple matter of summoning lots of pets and finding out how much damage it takes to kill them. I did this by dueling with a wizard. He rooted and burned my pets, and if they broke root I had them back off. We recorded how much damage his spells did and what was the amount needed to get a kill. Very easy, not too expensive, and gave all the data on that kind of thing.
So, in conclusion, I would say the items don't affect the pets below level 34. Not conclusive, but pretty darn sure.
A post on Caster's Realm gave the details of the tests they had run, and the focus items work at least as low as 20. I am my guild's twink hehe and I had the stein and shovel since level 8, and I swear by their abilities. My pets seem much stronger with the focus item. The main magician website out there says that the focus items work on pets as low as level 4.
I am trying to figure this out too. Some high level dwarf told me the Magicians who dropped the Stein/Torch/etc were on the lower level (with the prison cells and Moosh) behind a gate that you need a key for. There was a second locked gate behind the one he opened for me so I could not go and verify this.
ANY mage. Doesn't matter which one. As long as it is 'a magician' it has a chance of dropping the shovel, stein, broom, or torch (as well as torn pages of mastery, required for the magician epic quest.) :)
Lift your head... Now look up. Salenie has already answered your question 2 weeks ago, and it is the post right above yours. ANY Mage in Najena has a random chance to have ANY one of the 4 focus quest items.
How much would the shovel sell for in Najena? Not the Ponz of course, I meant the one dropped by the magician? I have read that the shovel dropped in Cazic Thule by the alligators sells for about 5pp.
I know that these are for mage quests and the result is a mage only item. im guessing these ones (quest componentes) would be mage too. But can someone confirm this cause it would look cool if my enchanter could carry around "a broom"
in response to Geffin's question I just recently did the focus item quests and you can use all four of them to obtain the four different items: Broom of Trilon, Stein of Ulissa, Torch of Alna, Shovel of Ponz...they are very nice
