I can confirm that you will still be ported out of Nagafen's Lair if you are too high level and try to run in, even in 2014. I ran in with my 85 bard and saw her across the room and... LOADING, PLEASE WAIT.

As an 85 Bard you will find Echo of Nortlav in The Hole a good alternate (if not permafarmed on your server).

If anyone has any red dragon scales i would love too purchase form you, although warning im not rich lol, id like two of them so i can simply do the convert to green dragon scales quest, saves a lot of time camping etc. please and thank you for any assistance, i want those light sabers hehe

I would feel real bad about chargeing 40 to 50k for this item if i hadn't had to pay 50k for mage helm (mage epic 1.0) so if they wanna gouge me i can gouge back only fair wish all played nice but i had to pay so when i get the drop i will charge have to refill plat for my epic somehow lol
I'm doing my part to reduce the costs of epics... Have 22 of them and selling for 5000 on Quellios. It's just a real big pain to get down to the very bottom of the hole to get these things.

Has the graphic changed on this? I bought a Red Dragon Scales in the bazaar but it has a graphic like a pile of scales instead of a single scale pic like above.

i think this guy is maby level based, or atleast level based. i tried to talk to him with my 47 warrior at the time to see if i could find anything out about the quest and he said something like i would be safer hunting wolves, or something demeaning like that. if anyone knows more about the quest please post it here.

He is in N. Ro. Follow the water heading out from freeport east. As you get closer to the oasis zone, you will see a post or tower on your right. It is not the one right next to the zone for those of you who are familiar, but close to there.
When you hail him he asks for water. I gave him some and he goes on to talk about changing stuff diff colors. When you give him your red scale like he asks, he gives you back(after a couple more dialog prompts... something like "what good news" and "what bad news") a box and a quest. You have to go all over and collect stuff for some glue as he busted your damn scale.. lol... I assume you get the green scale after quest is done... I have not finished it yet. BTW, if anyone finds Deep Fungus Mold please post it here. Is the only part I have not figured out yet. He says to buy it. Maybe one of his many brothers is a merchant?

Does this thing still drop off of Rage? We have killed Rage 7 times for cleric epics and not one scale has dropped. Is it just bad luck or what?
This no longer drops from Rage. His loot table was changed to keep people from farming him.
....quit yer whining! Just because someone is selling something doesn't mean you have to buy it. If their price is too high then go get it for yourself. People kill Sev and Ragefire all the time who don't need the scales, and they have every right to sell those items, and they have every right to sell them at the price they want to. You're no more obligated to buy the item than you are to listen to someone just because they're talking on the radio.
Sev and Ragefire both have 32k hp and are an easy single-groupable event at level 65, and an easy 2 group event for your normal high-50s - low-60s folks. It's not like it's hard.
Sorry for going off, but I get so tired of people not wanting to do anything for themselves in this game and to expect everything handed to them on a silver platter. Some of us get places faster because we work for it and do it on our own, instead of waiting around to be in the right place at the right time.
If you want the epic, work for the epic. Work hard. Put groups together, put raids together, expect to fail some, and in the end you'll eventually win. It might take a while but *gasp!* there was a time before PoP and Luclin when it would actually take 45 WHOLE MINUTES to travel from Freeport to Kunark just in the hopes you might find a group when you got there.
Ok ok I'll quit ranting now. But seriously, some of you need to read your own posts and listen to how childish they sound, then do us all a favor and edit them to uber blankness.

Lanys is Hellhole...I like the idea of dragon scales being No Drop...but to save time and defeat...I'd rather buy it. But I saw RDS's for 100k, 50k, and the lowest I seen was 15k. All I have to say is it's complete BS. The green scale was 60k lowest...soooo you telling me to get my warrior epic I need to invest AT LEAST 75k )Not including Permafrost, jewels, and other Non No-drop items needed) for my warrior Epic? Many can agree the epics aint the best items in game...which they outta be...so I would rather invest the 75k in something better...that short blade of lightning for example was 40k in the bazaar. Its just ridiculous I cant even have fun or have to cough up so much cash for a scale that only bards and warriors really need. And dont gimme the whole "Red dragonscale armor" BS cuz that chest item bites for the 3k it costs in the bazaar (and who would pay 15k to make an item that sells for 3k?) Lower your goddamn prices or I'll start rolling on caster items...yea even the No Drops you *********

When I said the dragonscale armor sucks...I was indirectly referring to the Ac21...at my level i want the higher Ac and I invested the 3k into a barbed ringmail...maybe I shouldnt have? But the 20str is nice but i made up for it with SCWB (str15)...maybe ill reconsider when i reach ac cap....point of post was about the price of dragon scales thou. sorry if i insulted any Red DS armor wearers :-)
i remember when i bought barbed ring mail for 3k...price dropped way down to near 2 now. Also my wavecrasher i bought for 20k, now its 14..../pissed off
Things like this should be no drop that way greedy ubers can't price gouge the needy for them and people who need them have to work for them like was originally intended.
I also find it interesting that finishing the Red Dragonscale armor quest results in an item that sells for 3000PP yet the average price for the red dragon scale listed as I type this is nearly 22,000PP. What moron is going to spend 22K for this when they can just buy the armor for 3K??
If you are not doing the bard/warrior epic it isn't worth the price and I even doubt it for the epic since better weapons have been added to the game since the epics were introduced that don't take months or years to get.

Just a reminder to all the people who keep commenting about RDS armor sucking, and how nobody would ever do that quest... remember that it's a hold over from the very beginning of the game. Red Dragonscale Armor is the original uber armor of EQ, before Kunark came out, long before epics were even thought of. The power-creep of the game may have far surpassed the old classics, but the quests still exist. I'm not suggesting people will presently buy the scale for that purpose, but it's worth thinking about the fact that not everything has always existed in its present form.
Not sure how much these are worth on certain servers. Guildie told me she saw one selling between 5-7k now. Allthough we just killed Ragefire yesterday for our cleric who has his clickstick now and I got to have the scale that he droped for my epic :)If scales are getting cheeper, maybe I'll just buy the green dragonscale. Allthough I saw a guy selling a green dragonscale for 115k once on Emarr.
As if the epics werent hard enough, Saw a guy wanting 50k for this on Drinal the other day.
But to have players actively gouge you for a NEEDED epic piece is just so wrong.

I would believe this. Being a Ranger, I was in need of a Jade Reaver. Seen a few ppl on Veeshan Server wanting over 30k for it. All I have to say is this: I HATE GREEDY PPL!!

i notice these things are NOT lore...not worn, either, so im wondering if a rogue with 200 in pick pockets has tried just to swipe one of these things (off Nortlav, possibly?) ....obviously, if he is detected, instant death would ensue....might be an interesting experiment tho. i also read somewhere that the rogue guild leader in quenos, when killed, sometimes has this on him. Anyone confirm or put down this rumor, i would be grateful :)
I believe it is impossible to PP a magical item. I've picked the beaks off of chickens and the pants off of orcs... but I ain't ever picked anything magical.

Hey peeps....need some input rather quickly here. Got a guy who is gonna sell me a "red dragon scales" for about 10k. Is this the same thing as "a red dragon scale" used in the warrior/bard epic? And if not--->What are "red dragon scales for"?
The Scales used in the Bard epic are "Red Dragon Scales" Plural. So yes, that's what you're looking for

i also have an item called dragon scales, not called red dragon scales. the picture of item is red in color. is this same as red dragon scales, or is it different item and if its a different item what is it used for?
good god(i do not say this in astonishment)...you have a dragon scale for the wurmslayer, NOT for the RDBP or war epic.
Did the name of this item change to "Wurm Scale" in the recent Luclin patches?

Epic needs override all others in most cases. The redscale bp can easily be bested by other more cheaply had means
this is for the Warrior Epic Quest i think that overrides a piece of armor k thnx la~
It's also for the bard epic.

Lemme tell ya, someone EVER tried to stop me from getting a dragon scale for one of the best stat giveing items in the game for a wizard (White Dragon Scale Armor - 9int, 25 sv cold, back slot- ddebatably the best back slot item in the game for an int caster) when they pay the same ten dollars a month as me I would petition immediately, and, considereing the Play Nice Policy, they have to let me roll. I participated in the kill, and want my fair chance at the same thing you guys do, my piece on my back. The bard wants a weapon, I want a piece of armor.

Ok let me put it this way...Would you be mad if your fear raid killed the Broken Golem and a Warrior or Bard got the peice off him that you needed for epic? I rest my case Epic's come before all else on mobs like this get over yourself and start thinking about others for a change!
