I'm going to sell these for 0.021 pp after having a stack on me for about 2 years. Which means the next expansion (as Trimler pointed out) will make them ultra rare and they'll be going for 500k in the bazaar for some supra-godly quest. Nowhere have I been able to find the quest that uses this. Maybe a faction turn-in in Shadowhaven? *shrugs* GL ya'll, I'm out on this one.
I keep foraging these and came to see what theyre for. Nasthes suggested that they may be useful in an upcoming expansion as a quest item. That was in 2006, its now 3 years later and there still doesnt seem to be a use for these things.
If anyone discovers a use, I would really love to hear what it is :o)

Just some more junk to fill up my ranger's inventory, from what I can tell. However, I'd love for someone to prove me wrong. As mind-wracking, time-wasting, and just plain frustrating as most quests are, after nearly completing my epic on my enchanter, I'm getting to the point of actually enjoying the abuse. (By the way, all I need on my chanty's epic are the pieces from hate and the hole, so if you'd like to help, I'm on Drinal/TM Server. Just shoot me a tell. :) ) -.-

odds are, somewhere on the moon is an npc who'll take 3 or 4 of these unstacked for quest completion.

or, they implemented the quest but revamped the quest giver's zone and didn't put the code back in, and then promptly forgot about it--all before anyone had a chance to discover the quest.
or, it could just be some useless junk filling up your ranger's inventory/bank slots Trim. =P
i've got a similar coin sitting in my bank from Charasis--no, it's not for the bard quest either. no idea what it's for. figure the day i destroy the darn thing, it'll come back to haunt me on the next expansion--like "Epic 4.0 upgrade, bring Animist Poren a runed brass disk from Charasis!"

forgaged a few of these in shadowrest, the new graveyard zone.

Ok, i got 2 of these but i got no idear what there used for?? any one know?
I foraged it in Paludal Caverns and in Shadow Haven too!
I foraged mine as I was crossing the bridge from ShadowHaven toward Paludal Caverns. No clue what it's for.

Theese can also be found in Katta, was there for little over an hour and almost got a stack of them. forage them fairly regularly.

I foraged several of these in Paludal and can't find out what they're for. I've been told that the one that's foraged in Emerald Jungle is for the Bard Tamborine quest. Is this one useable for that quest too or what? Thanks.
The one for the bard quest is yellow and can be identified using the song Lyssa's Cataloging Libretto.

They're also foraged in Ssraesha (sp?) Temple in the Grey.
I foraged up a ton of these in Greig's End as well, got 4 in about 3 hours in-zone.

they are stackable... foraged in Luclin only. and as far as i have seen in the city zones more common...
i dont know of any NPC or anything that need this but I would love to know.

I've foraged several stacks of these in multiple zones on Luclin - including The Bazaar, Shadow Haven, Sanctus Seru, Netherbian Lair, The Nexus, and Shar Vahl. Identifying them (using my Silvery Mask) provides no additional information about them, but the coins do sell to merchants for 1sp and a couple copper each. I'd really like to know what quest these are used in ;)

the ones in the old world (Antoinica) are used in the Coin of Tash quest to obtain the lvl 44 Enchanter spell AOE Tash... check it out https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=692 <-there the Luclin ones are different tho... maybe a similar type quest though, find the coins, combine them and trade them in for something... would be cool
its not AOE spell tash its just an upgrade to the tash you get at level 4 except that it decreases MR by a lot more.

I'm pretty sure there is one that spawn in the pool in erud palace... its called Ancient Tarnished coin... (actually clicked on this link to see what it was for..)

The coin you found in the Erud Palace is actually for the Enchanter Tash spell quest, the lvl 44 version. That quest is pretty simple, requires enchanters to get a coin in (or near, in some cases) water in most of the starting cities.
The Bard quest involves foraging coins in various Kunark zones. When you identify the Bard coins they have specific names though (so you remember which zone they came from). If anyone has the names of the coins once identified, it'd clear some things up.
As far as I know this particular coin is only foraged on Luclin, but it's pretty common. But then my foraging chars can't cast identify yet. ^_^;;

Ancient Coins are for the Nostrolo's Tamborine quest. There is only 1 coin that is foraged - and that is from Emerald Jungle (Coin IDs as "Torsis Ton".)
All of the rest of the coins drop off of Mobs in Kunark - and the quest starts at the Bank in FV.

LoIO - Ids as Veksar Gran

The bards are looking for the ancient coins not tarnished and only one is foraged in the emerald jungle. They are for the nostrols tamborine (sp). I have mine, and I have to say it is a nice upgrade from MM drums

It's great to finally see this item here. I've been stockpiling these little things for a while now and have been wondering what they are for. I had, of course, guessed that they are used for quests...big question, which is disappointingly not answered here yet, is what quest(s)???
Call me lazy if ya want but I ain't got the time to talk to every single NPC on both Norrath and Luclin to track it down, please post a link to the pertinent quest or someone post some details.

Maybe you could try to identify them, it has often helped me when i didn't know what an item was for.

Nope, tried that a long time ago when I thought they were for the VT key. Identifies as an ancient tarnished coin.
