Netherbian Lair connects the Nexus to Luclin's Dawnshroud Peaks and Marus Seru. The main corridors are guarded by Hands of Seru and Shadow Haven defenders, and are safe for travel. The ancient mining caves connected to them, on the other hand, are full of aggressive creatures and rather treacherous.

I talked to a GM about it, its not just a pile of rocks.. its possible to squeeze through/shadowstep, but its just a blocked off invisible wall, and what appears to be a zoneline curving around the conventional zone line look.. the GM didnt know about it though, so I dont think its CShome, but much of luclin was unfinished.. the zone that was meant to be here is probably where those doors in shadowhaven connect to. Its not a rumor, it is an unknown zone, but its not active and was never finished, Im assuming they will go back and fill in the gaps eventually. Theres also a similar place in Hollowshade Moore in the back of the lava elemental cave under the lava. Theres a 2.0 epic mob there now, but its a similar situation. Theres alot of things like this, especially in the nexus.

..have things changed? this is the connector zone in luclin from the nexus to 2 or so more common zones. its low level. drops cloth ranked armor and fungus food. its the toughness before going to paludal.

unless i misunderstand the confusion in this 'unknown' zone

If you look in the Back of the Midst Library in Shadow Haven, there are sealed double doors. I beleive these doors lead to NL. This 'unknown zone' is actually just a blocked entrance to NL.

Its too bad it was seemingly forgotten about. Seems a "great evil" was trying to get into SH from NL. SoE should do more to advance that story line.

finally found him. in case anyone wants to know his spawn spot:

If you are heading to DSP, take the last tunnel on left (Trog Area). Take first tunnel on left (on the inside). Keep clearing those placeholder spots. He'll spawn. Takes awhile. For the record, his drop is not worth the time it takes to camp him. But if you are level 20 Shammy/Bst and camping the spot for XP, you will get the drop as bonus. By the time I was finally able to get the drop it was useless to me and my alts. I put it up in trader for 20PP and someone bought it.

Killed him last night, solo as a 24 bard with only bazaar/hand-me-down gear. Think I had temperance at the time. Twisting regen, slow, and haste songs he only got me down to about 80%. Tried to run like Louis XVI too, sorry bastid. Very very fun, easy-to-solo zone, take your twink here once he's done in PC. Not the same insane exp but still quite good, last yellow of 24 solo, and first two of 25 in a group with 21 rogue and 25 warrior, in a bit under 3 hours.

I cant find the darned Trog King? Was he recently removed. I use tracking (117) and have been camping the Trog area for three weeks. NADA! Anyone give me the co-ordinates for his spawn? This is really aggravating me. BTW Unknown Zone is a practical joke by someone who submitted a map to EQATLAS.. that's what I have been told.. can anyone confirm? Urban Legend.

The Trog King exists.. at least he did a month ago. Maybe he spawns once a month? If anyone can help me with his spawn please send email to Sargethetachi@yahoo.com

Thanks!!

If you're like me and hate the Paludal Caverns because of the crowding and power leveling and general whining of kill stealing etc., then this is a decent place to solo or group. If for some reason it's full or you want a change, Marus Seru is nearby and it should be easy to find a level 20 - 30 group. Like Andred posted, it can be fairly quiet and you can single pull if you are careful. I've found the tunnels East of the central pillar to be my favourite spot. There's also a good tunnel on the left as you pass the central pillar and head south down the tunnel to Dawnshroud Peaks. I never have to go far inside to pull something out and if things go wrong, there are 3 different zone lines to use as escape routes. Also the guards will attack Netherbians, Trogs and Sporelings so simply leading extra pulls to a guard can save your hide, while still leaving you with your original pull to fight and get xp from. I got the Swarm Leader as an add with a warrior I pulled with snare, so I led the Swarm Leader to a guard to kill and went back to my slow moving warrior to finish the job. People passing through this zone are often very helpful, healing and buffing are often done without asking by high level players traveling to other parts of Luclin. I've been sneaking in and out of here since level 21, now at level 30 I still get decent xp while soloing. At 21 I often had to run for my life but the xp was great, over 1/2 a blue bubble for each dark-blue conned mob. At 30, xp per dark blue mob is maybe 1 1/2 to 2 ticks of blue. I've mostly fought Netherbians because that's what's in my favourite tunnel. The Trogs seem to hit harder and have more HP than the Netherbians but are not that much tougher. The Trog Hunters cast a weakening spell on you which can be easily dispelled. That taught me how important it is to have an open buff spot at top to make it easier to dispell things like that. Still learning, still having fun.
P.S. If you're doing the Lerin quest, let the zone know, that can cause some godawful trains. 3 of us died yesterday because of that. I'm not complaining about trains, they always happen near zone lines and should be expected. What I mean is this quest spawns a lot of mobs that others may not be ready for or aware of and a heads-up would be appreciated. We might even help you with your quest!!!! Anyone else have an opinion on this zone?

This is a nice place to go for low 20's. Noticable loot upgrade from the Paludal Caverns as mobs here can drop 1pp + each. No insane exp modifier like PC, but no choices at this level do. The Spore Covered armor that drops here is also a nice upgrade from basic leather and split paw type stuff worn by the untwinked leather classes.

Fairly quiet zone, you can pull singles if you're patient. Many classes can solo here for nice exp or easy to Duo it.
Haven Guards
# Mar 03 2003 at 12:33 AM Rating: Decent
If you don't mind losing faction with the Haven Guards in Netherbian Lair and eventually becoming KOS there, then go for the guards.

I went at 25 with a beastlord along and the xp is pretty nice. If you're looking for loot, all you'll get is a few gold or silver pieces and sometimes quest items. All their weapons are no drop.

I still go there at 35 when I get bored; soloing's no problem and you'll probably never run into a lot of people in competition for pops cause no one ever really thinks to run around and kill the guards here.

No thanks. Sooner or later you're gonna pull more than you can handle and if theres no guards there, you're gonna die. I know the guards aren't very strong to begin with and a even a small train could probably take down one, maybe two of them at a time, but at least they slow them down long enough for you to escape. And hunting in or passing through Netherbian to get to DSP or MS will be a lot harder with guards pounding on you the whole time.

Am camping this area in the company of low thirty level individuals. All if the bestiary is conning very dark blue to me. I am a level twenty five warrior. The bestiary is conning light blue and green to all of the others in the group. I am trying to figure out how the experience levels are worked out. I can't believe the higher levels are leveling very well in this scenario. Should they move to a zone with dark blue, yellow, and reds and I tag along taking my chances. Thanks
RE: Experience level
# Sep 21 2002 at 6:55 PM Rating: Decent
Your group should move on. There are two advantages. First, the higher levels will get exp. Second, if the MoBs are yellow or red to you then you get an exp bonus. That was added in one of the last two patches. Basically, they get exp and you get help catching them.

I say move.

Unfortunately the XP bonus only applies at level 50 and above :). Otherwise the advice is good... if nothing else, your group should be able to safely handle a lot of the mobs near the DSP zone line, but I find it a bit of a dull zone compared to dungeons.

Brought my kitty BST here at level 25 to see the zone for the first time... get a bind in Nexus first so you won't have to run as far.

Looking for cash as well as xp, so I generally like to solo (also play at odd hours when most peeps are sleeping). I park my pet near the central pillar, and pull netherbians and fungoids to that area -- keeps them from running to their buddies in the tunnel when they realize they are going to die.

Pull with DD, then throw in a DoT for good measure while fighting alongside my pet, but generally I save mana for healing.

Loot is decent, usually some gold -- at times there will be 2-3pp, but can also get MOBs with only a few silver on them... caster research components drop every now and then.

Experience is not great, especially compared to fighting Greyhoppers next door in Marus Seru (too bad the loot there is almost non-existant -- greyhopper hides are nice for tailors). Switch back and forth between zones depending on crowds in either zone.

I am doing the pull to the pillar thing right now but you have to be careful there are no guards nearby. If you can't root/snare the mobs to keep them in place, they usually run to the spots where the guards stand when they wander over to that part of the zone and if the guard gets the final blow you're screwed. It can really make you tear your hair out to lose 90% health and use up all your mana just to have a guard KS you and leave you with a lot of medding and healing to do with no xp or loot to show for it. :(

I am currently doing the same. Jumping back and forth between NL and MS depending on whether I feel like levelling or filling my pockets with loot. It's good for breaking up the boredom that these two zones are right next to each other. Both are soloable pretty easily, as well. I just wish the guards in NL were a bit higher level like the ones in MS because the last thing you want is for a train to wipe out the guards and catch up to you before you can get to the exit.

Oh yeah, you forgot to mention that the mobs in NL have a lot of hp for their level and I swear they have enhanced regen as well. I had a bad streak where I was missing a Netherbian Warrior a lot, and I swear he gained back a whole yellow bub of health in what seemed like a few seconds. Now you know why I pull to guards so much and hate people who think it's fun to go guard hunting. (That goes for all guards everywhere, not just in this particular zone).

Nerfed?
# Apr 16 2002 at 4:59 PM Rating: Decent
Speaking specifically on the spore covered armor that drops off the fungoids and the amount of pp they drop. The cash is NO WHERE NEAR what it used to drop as. Mostly cp and sp with the occasional gp or even the rarer PP! The spore hardly ever drops now. Anyone know if this zone has been nerfed as far as drops and cash? I spent 3 hrs and NO spore armor to show for the time there. Very little money, maybe 20pp or less (that's including all the cp and sp added together) :(
RE: Nerfed?
# May 15 2002 at 10:48 AM Rating: Decent
It doesn't appear nerfed to me. I see a bit of pp even from at least a decent portion of the Fungus Sporelings (I'm not surprised to get 2pp from a Sporeling that's green to me) and Netherbian Drones.

I don't get a great deal of spore covered armor, but I do get a bit - mostly the smaller pieces (they LOVE dropping the gloves!).

So maybe you just had a bad trip to the Lair. Try again and you may not be so disappointed.

I hunted here when Luclin was first released, and pretty much 3 out of every 4 Netherbians and Fungoids, regardless of type (even sporelings and drones), would drop 4pp and some change. So you saying that "I'm not surprised to get 2pp from a Sporeling that's green to me" (a below average amount when I hunted there) in addition to other comments I've been reading lately lead me to believe that there's a good chance that the cash drops in this zone have been nerfed somewhat.

The Guards and Legos are now on factions. Previously you could kill them for great experience and lousy loot without any consequences. Now if you kill them, you hurt either your faction in Shadowhaven or Sanctus Seru, depending.

YES! At 24 you WILL always find groups/partners. The exp is great (better with the new exp bonus), the loot better and there are three zones to run to if you get in trouble. You can almost always get bound and get SoW next door in the Nexus. I think it is the best zone in the game right now for 20 somethings. Watch out for the sporelings/fungoids, though. I think they aggro more than the netherbians or the trogs.

Well, i had just showed up in the lair at lvl 30 from the nexus, and was on my way to marus saru, but when i reached the zone i noticed the 3 guards there were blue/even/yellow. i harmonied the blue and yellow, and killed the even for almost half a blue bub, which is pretty darn good for being in hell lvl. Also got 4pp in loot, and the norent sword/shield. Great thing about this camp is that there are no faction hits, and theres a zone nearby if you get in trouble. Havent tried killing any of the critters here yet, i plan on doing that next time im on. # Jan 30 2002 at 1:04 AM Rating: Decent
I posted this as a guess the other night in the Netherbian forums, but tonight I watched a little more carefully. In every case, the Netherbian Warriors and Drones jumped up on a rock as soon as they were near one and swung at me or my wife from there. Made it harder to hit. It was NOT just that we pushed them, they deliberately jumped up. We only saw the Swarmcaller once, and he did the same thing. Advice then is to try to fight in the middle of whatever flat area you can find, or train them out to the central chamber (the one with the column) to fight them.

The porous mineral block can be used by Gnomes with a high Tinker skill, used to make a Geerlok Fermentation Device that adds +5% to brewing when held.

You're seeing something that's common to a lot of Luclin areas. Kill fast and often, and the respawns are stronger and nastier.

So for example,if you want that Swarm Leader, stomp every Netherbian you see-quickly. More powerful Netherbians start showing up more frequently(Warrior/Swarmcaller) and then the leader.

Ditto with the Trogs and their king. Don't know about fungoids, haven't done them.
Fungoid Fighting
# Dec 18 2001 at 10:36 AM Rating: Excellent
This is really just a little note for those that might be seeking the spore-covered armor. Last night I was searching for some, I wanted to see how it looks. I'm a 48 monk, so I wasn't getting exp. and everything was green by the way. I knew the sporelings don't drop any armor pieces, so I was runnning around looking for the fungoids, fungoid workers, and mature fungoids. Problem is, there weren't very many of these, and the sporelings kept aggroing me. So I would FD, then run past and keep looking.
Finally, I decided to just take out everything. The reason I hadn't been wanting to fight the sporelings is that they tend to run when they get low on health. Wouldn't be a problem if I could see in the dark, but those caverns are pretty dark and its hard to chase them down. Here's the rub: If you're after money as well, these things are pretty rich. I would often get 2-4 pp from each one.
Then I noticed that after I had killed a lot of sporelings, I started seeing a lot more fungoids. Which meant more armor pieces of course. So I ran around killing the fungoids, and then I saw more fungoid workers and mature fungoids. I don't know if this is just random and I happened to just start finding more fungoids, but I think not. I think that as you clear the lower level sporelings, the higher level fungoids start to spawn, which is good if you're looking for this armor.
The only other thing is, I got the tunic from a mature fungoid, and the leggings too I think, and all the other pieces came from fungoids and fungoid workers. Maybe tunics and legs only drop from mature fungoids, but I don't have enough information to support this yet.
Moral of my long message: Kill everything if you're trying to get the spore-covered armor *grin*.
Some General Info
# Dec 17 2001 at 9:28 PM Rating: Decent
hunted in this zone with my lightly twinked 27 monk. Good experience, got about a blue bubble per kill soloing the netherbians, less on the Fungi and the Trogs.

This zone is divided into 3 main zones, branching off from the hallway. the first is the netherbians, little alien looking things they screech way too much. They drop up to 5p in loot, plus some block of porous mineral, which only sells for 1 gold so I am guessing it could be used for future trade skills. The swarm leader is pathetic mob, I soloed him when he was yellow easily. He dropped the Netherbian Chitin 20 Ac 2 str 10 FR every time, lore so I leave them to rot all the time. The swarmcallers sometimes drop an 8/25 2 str 2 hp piercer.

Next is the Trog area. These little guys will assist any Netherbians in the area. They come in 3 variaties. Bull, Hunter, and regular. The Bulls and hunters randomly drop a Flint Spear, and a Flint Hammer. Flint spear is 8/35 2 str 2 wis and flint hammer is 5/30 1 str 1 wis. The Trog King drops 3 wiz pants for Shm/Beastlord about half the time.

Lastly is the Fungi Area. I don't fight here because they give a nasty 4 hour dot, kind of like rabies. They are mostly green to a 27 but the blues are hard to kill.

I like this zone, good cash and exp on the netherbians, good loot for the level.
