This is the Fifth Qeynos Badge Quest. I don't have the exact details yet, but here's what I know.

You say, 'Hail, Sergeant Caelin'

Sergeant Caelin says 'Hail, Limecherry. You have nothing to fear from the gnolls. My men and I have been sent from Qeynos to help defend Fort Jaggedpine should those worthless curs make the mistake of assuming this will be a place of easy plunder. I've fought and slain scores of gnolls in my time. Were I not bound to my post here I would go forth and drive them from their dark cave to the north myself. However, I can offer you a [bounty], should you choose to take such a mission upon yourself.'

You say, 'what bounty'

Sergeant Caelin says 'If you choose to go and fight against the gnolls, I shall offer a bounty for every gnoll canine that you return to me. You look a bit more adventurous then many of those that live in this settlement. They seem a bit [docile].'

You say, 'who is docile'

Sergeant Caelin says 'Perhaps it comes from living in harmony with nature for an extended period of time but they are more concerned with trading food recipes and doing arts and crafts. I have offered to give them some basic training in the arts of war but they seem to have no interest. This is a dangerous world in which we live and failure to acknowledge that has meant the downfall of many a society. I won't let this happen on my watch, provided my [men] are on their toes.'

You say, 'What men'

Sergeant Caelin says 'Guard Bossamir is a model soldier and a good man. I'm happy to have him watching my back. That Finewine character however, he is not worth the cost of the sword he wields! All he does is whine and complain. He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and his family enrolled him in the guard to teach him some discipline but I've had no luck with him. He hasn't even turned in a [shift report] for weeks. Captain Tillin will bust me down to private if I don't deliver those soon.'

***Kills Gnolls and turn in Gnolls fangs otherwise Sergeant caelin will just say "you have not proved yourself worth to our cause". You need to be at least amiable to him. when you are...***

You say, 'what shift report'

Sergeant Caelin says 'You have been helpful in our defense efforts. However, I can not be too careful about whom I trust with carrying this information. If you truly consider yourself an ally to Qeynos then no doubt you have assisted the city in its defense before. Show me your Qeynos Badge of Honor and I'll know I can trust you fully. I'll place my mark upon it should anyone question your authority to do this service for me.'

***hand him your Qeynos badge of Honor and you will receive "Marked Qeynos Badge of Honor" in return along with "A warning note/report" to give to Guard Finewine. Sorry I don't have the dialogue for that but trust me***

*to your right and within eye site is Guard Finewine. He is standing by the other house back entrance*

You say, 'Hail, Guard Finewine'

Guard Finewine says 'Yeah. Hi. Lovely place this. Humid, dark, wild animals all over the place, man eating plants, snakes and bugs finding their way into my armor and biting me where a man ought not be bit. And if [Bossamir] is right, we're soon to be cut down by ravaging gnolls. Why-oh-why did I get assigned to this job? Why wasn't I assigned to Qeynos where a man can get a decent meal and sleep in a nice bed at night? Oh I'm sorry. Did I say that out loud?'

You say, 'What Bossamir'

Guard Finewine says 'Hmm. . . Yeah, I have this tendency to prattle on when I'm completely miserable. According to what my colleague Bossamir has heard, these gnolls may be tougher then we thought. But that would be par for the course anyway with the way my pitiful life is going. Woe is me. The people in this backward settlement hate me, Sergeant Caelin hates me and I assume Kane hates me too because he sent me to the armpit of Antonica on a suicide mission.'

*gave him the Warning letter/note*

Guard Finewine says 'So he wants to send me to jail simply because I'm not filling out some silly reports? How can I be expected to think in such a decrepit state? Maybe you could help me. If I had a meal worthy of someone of my breeding then maybe I could think. Bring me something elegant, I don't want anything dull and pedestrian. I don't know what I want though. Do you have any suggestions?'

Guard Finewine wants some dryad, potameid pate first before he will part with the report. Finewine then says he wants panther pate and will give you a no drop brandy for the dryad/potameid pate.

--Dryad, Potameid pate
-First you need Dryad meat (which will lower your faction with Dryads and they are everywhere in this zone) or Potameid meat (trivial 151)
-foraged plant shoots
-brandy
-spices
-combine in an oven or spit which will result in a +4 wisdom banquet meal for the dryad recipe and +4 intelligence banquet meal for the potameid recipe.

---panther pate
-no drop panther liver from JP panthers
-foraged plant shoots
-no drop brandy from guard (see above)
-spices
-combine in an oven or spit

I am not sure of the exact sequence from here, but here is the reward.

Need missing dialogues, faction hits if any, details of war, additional quest steps, etc.

I was able to most of the JP stuff at indifferent to JP.

Got a panther liver (I don't care about JP faction being a Shadowknight so I just kill the blastedthings) and had my mate make some dryad pate.

I have the orders to turn back into the sergeant.

The Panther Pate Trivial at 143 baking.

Did not give Caelin my badge because I don't have one. :)

What I want to know is if Barducks is fearable or not, What level is he, and if he is slowable, mezzable, & rootable. Also, what do I do next in this line of quests? Great post otherwise, much deserving of a 5 star rating.

what i can tell you about barduck is that
1 he is slowable.
2 he is mezzable.
3 he is rootable(but it drop root rather fast, better snare...)
4 he don't summon.
5 he don't cast.
i dunno for the fear, but since he can be snared mezzed, rooted i'll bet you can fear him... but if you re a caster don't forget he have in the 15 - 20k hp... that mean lot of mana...
oh yeah

I truly hope Verant gets off their butts and makes the sixth quest! This is one of the best, most entertaining, most interesting quests I have ever seen! Only one thing I would like to see different on the next badge: Flowing Thought

Nearly all quests that are this long have flowing thought. Would be great to see it here, though the see invis does help peeps at times, I am sure.

Remember, Verant, when designing this next quest that alternating big guil level encounters with soloable stuff for succeeding badges would be great, and I would REALLY love to see the TENTH BADGE WAR!!!!

hehe -Qeynos Hills- /ooc Warning! The zone will depop in five minutes for the Tenth Qeynos Badge War!!

That would be very cool if Sony decided to make this quest longer and lead to a Badge war. Wouldn't that be something, Fippy's long lost big brother coming back to QH to lay smack down on everyone that killed his little brother more times than they can count. Plus I've been waiting since the day I started EQ back in 2k1 to see gnolls the size of hill giants :D

And suddenly Gnollbasher becomes a 600pp weapon since Fippy's big bro will only be hit by gnoll bane weapons. Ph33r him!

Completed the War
# Dec 09 2002 at 3:15 AM Rating: Decent
Got my Qeynos Badge of Nobility today and with my guild completed the war. The town took some decent casualties, but some people survived and got quest text to show it. Upon completion of the 3rd wave of attacks:

Sergeant Calin shouts 'It appears the gnolls have been routed but at what a cost? Many of the innocents I have sword to protect have perished this day. Karana forvie my dreadful failure. If you can show me that you assisted in defense of the fort, you shall be compensated.'

At this point if anyone turns in the Lore, No Rent items they got from the random gnolls that dropped them during the quest, they will receive some experience and some 1 charge expendable Lore items with some random spell effects. One of the items was 1 charge Spirit of Cheetah, one was Levitate, and a couple others that I don't remember off hand. Looked pretty lame for running around protecting the fort, but I'm keepting them around. Possibly for another Qeynos Badge? Not real sure.

A different sergeant Caelin spawns for the war and for the turnins afterwards. I tried turning the potions back into him, but he wouldn't take them. Maybe I'll try handing them in to the regular quest version of him, or maybe handing him my 5th badge, or maybe talking to that guy back in qeynos. Not sure, we shall see

This guy is alot like the Disturbed elysians in UP. I(57 druid) partnered with a 58 wizzy. We kited him in the room there with all mobs up. We sat along the back of the wall till we were ready. Had to cast ensnare twice before it stuck. Wizzy nuked and I doted. Nuked on ocassion which broke root. Very easy fight for casters. Melee not suggested unless you slow him if he can be slowed at all. It didnt seem like 20k hp to me. Took about 5 Winged deaths but not sure what the wizzy was casting so it might have been fight barely lasted 5 minutes. Smiley: waycool

this was EASILY done with 61 warr, 53 cleric and 55 druid. we even killed most of the gnolls on the way to Burducks to get some faction back after killing so many panthers. we fight together often so that probably had something to do with it also, but honestly not that tough.

I went to turn in the papers from Captain Tillin in S.Qeynos, to Caelin in JaggedPine, and he ate it, due to me losing my amiable faction. I know, I should've re-checked. Anyways, I know have the Marked Badge of Honor still, but no papers. How do re-do this part of the quest? Or do I now have to start from Quest #1 again?

Well, I did kill Barducks last night with a 60 Paladin, 60 wizard, 59 wizard, 49 Enchanter, 57 Cleric and 58 Ranger. I was level 58 at the time. (Still am) He was pretty easy, just fought our way in, killed all his little lackies, then off'ed his head. I think he has a bit less than 20k hps... but it sure is close. I love my little badge of nobility.

hi there everybody

i finished this whole set of quests as soon as they appeared with my main char, a WE Druid lvl 60. Now i am considering doing this quest also with my 51 DE Cleric, which leads to the faction problem. My Woodie had no probs with faction in qeynos, but i think my DE will have some.....

Anyone out there did this set of quests with a DE and still remembers what faction work was need to start it?

Thansk for your help

Did it with my Iksar necro 2 times. Probably did too much faction work (killing gnolls and handing gp to shilster). I didn't do clerics/paladins/casters. The 3rd part (rat puzzle) was OK in wolfform. Casters (Order of Three) were KoS in wolfform, but easily avoided in qeynos south.
I had to raise steel warriors for the 1st badge, because they were KoS in wolfform and you have to go down under the arena. One right there was red to lvl 56.

DE Necro? talk about a double negative. Personally I wouldn't try it. you have to go into the PALLY GUILD area itself in order do the puzzle portion of the research badge. Doing that with alot of help and FD's is going to create problems in itself. I'm sure it can be done but thats one portion of the quest your going to really have some issues with without some serious help from some enchanter and cleric friends.
good luck if your going to attempt it.

# Nov 11 2002 at 12:15 PM Rating: Excellent
Faction needed is Guards of Qeynos and possibly Priests of Life. My druid is KOS to Corrupt Qeynos Guards, which gets lowered by doing the Badge quests anyhow. Fastest way for increasing your Qeynos faction I know is the Corrupt Guards' Bracer quest that starts in NK.
https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=373
If you're kos to the Captain Linarius by race/religion, not from killing Qeynos guards, then wolf-form will work for turning them in.
You can also do the gnoll fang quest in South Qeynos for Guards of Qeynos faction.

For Preists of Life the bandit sash quest in south Q does ok, but very slow.

Also becareful in North Qeynos once your KOS to the Corrupt Guards, althout most corrupt guards in Norht and South are not much of a problem for 50+ chars but, Lieutenant Dagarok by the pond at Crow's bar is a nasty SK. He HT'd for 701, engulfed me and slashed for 356. Here's a link on him with some useful info:

I'd been really slacking off on finishing this quest but my guild and I finally took down Barduck Darkpaw today so I could loot the head.

Anyways.. HERE is the Finished Official Lime Report
--------------------------------------
Left off at
Guard Finewine says 'So he wants to send me to jail simply because I'm not filling out some silly reports? How can I be expected to think in such a decrepit state? Maybe you could help me. If I had a meal worthy of someone of my breeding then maybe I could think. Bring me something elegant, I don't want anything dull and pedestrian. I don't know what I want though. Do you have any suggestions?'

*give him Potemeid Pate*
-Baking combine of: (152? Trival)
--Potemeid Parts
--Bamboo Plant Shoots (foraged in Jagged pine zone)
--Spices
--Brandy

Guard Finewine says 'Hmm. . . This is interesting. . . The taste is very refined but sort of. . . odd. . . We're almost there but I don't think you have the recipe quite right. Rather then that peasant Brandy, use this in your recipe instead. And rather then whatever other 'meat' you were using before use a Panther Liver. You do seem to have some skill as a chef, mayhaps you could work for me some day. Prepare some Panther Pate for me. Give me the Panther Pate and let me read that warning again.'

Note: he gives you back the
*Warning letter | No Drop Lore and
*Finewine Family Brandy | No Drop Lore

*Give him Warning Letter and Panther Pate
*Panther Pate* | No Drop Lore
-Baking combine of: 0 Skill (100% perfect combine every time)
--Panther Liver (No Drop Lore) off "a black panther" in Jagged Pine zone (don't go to Wakening lands and try those black panthers)
--Bamboo Plant Shoots (foraged in Jagged pine zone)
--Spices
--Finewine Family Brandy

Guard Finewine says 'Ah yes, this is perfect! I feel my head clearing already. Wait, is that the sun poking through the trees there or the moon? Hard to tell in this hideous jungle. . . Oh wait yes. My shift reports for the last few weeks. Why don't you go ahead and turn these into Sergeant Caelin for me. I'm going to enjoy this fine pate.'

*receive Compiled Shift Reports No Drop|Lore
*give to Sergeant Caelin

Sergeant Caelin says 'Oh praise Karana, how did you manage to get these out of him? Never mind, I don't really care. Here, take this Compiled Report to Captain Tillin in Qeynos at once.'

*receive Book of reports

Run to South Qeynos and give Captain Tillin the Book and return to Sergeant Caelin and give him Captain's Orders. You will receive a "Writ of Execution" and "a Black Sachel" both No drop | Lore.
Now you need to Kill Barduck Darkpaw(*) in the Jagged Pine Gnoll caves just north east of the Town. Loot his head and Combine with the Writ to make a Sealed Black Sachel.
Give "a Sealed Black Sachel" too Sergeant Caelin along with your Marked Qeynos Badge of Honor.

Receive "Qeynos Badge of Nobility"

(*) Note, Killing Barduck Darkpaw starts the Gnoll War.
The Gnoll War is where a series of Gnolls start to invade the town through 3 waves of 10-18 level 42-45 MoB's. Partaking in the Gnoll war does not effect you getting the badge what-so-ever but you might have to wait til the Serg respawns to turn everything in if you lose the war. Turn in the combined box before hand to avoid this problem.
--------------------------------------------

Just want to say thanks to Pootle and Limecherry.

I completed this quest yesterday, and it was a very fun quest to do.

The Liver Pate combine did not fail at a 21 skill level, for those interested. I suspect because of it involving no drop items and the like, it's a no-fail combine.

Anyways, I had a blast running around doing this and I really dig the new neck item. The added ac and stats and HPs means my warrior won't be needing to upgrade his neck item for awhile.

I heard the Poachers sometimes dropped the livers, so I hunted poachers till I had max Ally faction with JP residents, no liver.

I've since switched to Panthers, and have killed so many I'm back down to Amiable and STILL no liver.

Just how rare ARE these? =/

I was killing poachers today, and a panther liver dropped. However, this was before I started the quest, so I destroyed it, lol. Tonight though, I got another. So they do drop from the poachers, guess they are just rare or something.

When you kill the Gnoll :
[Wed Sep 04 18:46:00 2002] Barducks Darkpaw's corpse shouts 'A curse upon you pitiful manlings! Avenge me my brothers and raze their pathetic settlement! Ruin their land as they've ruined ours!'

When you hand to sergeant the closed bag and the marked QboH :
[Wed Sep 04 18:51:02 2002] Sergeant Caelin says 'A job well done! Perhaps now that will throw the gnolls into disarray and show them that we are not to be trifled with! The people of Qeynos and it’s surrounding territories are in a great debt to you. You have proved time and again your willingness to take great risks to protect those who can’t protect themselves. I am hereby empowered to grant to you an honorary rank of nobility. Take this badge and were it proudly.'

Few minutes later :
[Wed Sep 04 18:52:50 2002] The sound of war drums echo through the forest and a rough inhuman voice calls out a war cry. 'Brothers, now is the time of our revenge! Destroy the human settlement and claim it as our own! For Barducks and clan Darkpaw!'

And 10/15 mobs named : A gnoll rush the sergeant/banker, shops and kill all.
I was alone so I've not tried to kill the gnoll.
If anyone know if there is something to do, plz tell :)

You can skip all the foraging and panther genocide by killing the Potameid Matriarch from whom I looted the No Drop Panther Pate about 2 weeks ago. I just turned it in to Guard FineWine and recieved the stack of shift reports.

Potameids are tougher than panthers and the Matriarch is an interesting fight, so this route probably requires a full group of 50s or a couple 60s to do.

Now THIS is usefull info...
My Woodelf Druid started off indiff to Jaggedpine peeps... After I get to ally, I know that killing the panthers will drop me down again... Then, back to getting ally (I know you only need amiable, but whenever I work on faction, I like to just get it over with and max it out).

Killing the potameid seemd like a VERY nice idea... I knew there had to be a better way! 8)

Thank you kindly for this info.

Just a little note, I soloed the gnoll in the cave for the quest. He has approx 20k hps and it took me about 10 mins to kill him using root/dot/epic/Tov bracer. He only managed to hit me once for 195 so I assume he's pretty nasty, dropped the head and a sabertooth 16/29 1hs. Fairly easy if you're a 60 druid with epic.

Just updating, forage skill of 55 and I was able to forage the plant shoots after many attempts. Is possible but with a skill this low I was having trouble foraging anything. Ranger guildmate was able to get three in the time it took me to get a one. Also on the potameid pate, baking skill of 143 and it was not trivial. Failed on first attempt but was successful on second. Have yet to get the panther liver to attempt the next portion.

The Plant Shoots are droppable and you get the "scrounged something up that doesn't look edible"-message, so dont worry you won't eat them.
As for the skill, i am not sure, but if i recall right somewhere was stated that you need a skill of 100 to forage special items, but who said that Plant Shoots are special items in this zone?!?!
Perhaps you should give it a try.

Some great info here from Jbond and the Safehouse, have helped me get a good part of this quest done quickly. One question that has come to mind though. Is there a required skill in Forage to obtain the plant shoots? As a Bard my skill caps at a whopping 55, and for most zones a skill of 100 plus is required for any of the rare/special foraged items. Either way, would also like to find out if they are droppable. If so can bring in a ranger or druid friend with a much higher skill to gather them for my baking attempts. Any info on this will be greatly appreciated.

Just did that with 60 necro, 60 SK, 60 Monk, 60 War and 60 Druid (me). i had 40m and it was enough, just had to cast 2 Natures Touch on War and we were good. Slow from Willsapper got stuck and my epic snare also, fire based (starfire) went in also Necro Lifetaps weren't resisted, fight took us about 1 min

Pulling Barducks Darkpaw
# Jul 29 2002 at 10:17 PM Rating: Excellent
Okay here is how we pulled and killed Barducks Darkpaw. First the group consisted of Wizzbane 59 wiz (the pull idea was his... thanks Wizz), Beanen 55 druid, Whytstar 59 shaman, and me Evasto 59 wiz. The two wizards went invis and ran into the area where Barducks is. If you run into any gnolls that see thru invis on the way, find a good spot to down them fast then re-invis. To get to him you go in the cave and at the juntions you go, left, left, right, left. Once we got to him we stood at 3633, 676 and both rooted him (this seemed to be a good non-aggro spot). Best to use a person that invis is a set time and not the kind that drops anytime. Once he is rooted go invis again (two people rooting for better odds so you have the time to re-invis again). Then slowly lead him out of the cave. We kept him in sight so he would not get stuck somewhere. Once he is out of the cave the druid did the longer snare and the rest is dot, nuke, kite history!

Hope this helps some,

Evasto

Did this last night with a group
Me (59 cleric)
61 druid
52 Pally
52 Ranger
53 Shaman
44 Beastlord
45 Necro

Probably a little over kill, went down in just over a minute. Did have a lot of HP. I was able to single pull him through all of the mobs around him, used harmony on others, but was actually able to single all mobs in the caves without harmony. Most were lt blue to me with an occasional dk blue. If you look on EQAtlas he spawns in the back of the area marked with the #1. There are 6 mobs around him. We fought him right there - just pulled him away from the other mobs and cleared 1 or 2 from the area we were pulling to.
He also dropped a range slot +15 FR and some other stat (ac i think) item - icon looked like a bundle of sticks.

Anyway fun fight - and we made it back to the town in time to kill the last wave of gnolls attacking. We were unable to save Sgt Caelin though - next time we will - don't know what rewards are given in the gnoll war.

Aye, I soloed him yesterday with my Level 58 Shaman by using Invisibility to pull him outside. He has quite a few hit points so it was a long fight, but he doesn't hit that hard as long as you never let him hit you :-P

I went with a guildie (Muzman) to check out JP zone. Got to killing Gnolls and saw a named one on tracking(Braducks Darkpaw). So we moved to him and cleared all the close mobs(quite a few). He was an easy kill. Me 60 druid Muzman 55? necro.

From all the n00bish arguing here, i am unable to detirmine if Barducks is a Triggered spawn or a Timed or random spawn. Can someone confirm what sort of spaw he is and where he is?

I swear to Tunare, SOME people
lol this is the ONLY Kazam's board where I DON'T see noobish arguments!

Anyway, I think he's roaming, so hire a druid, ranger, or bard to track him for ya.

By the way... The words of the wisest and most mystical men the world has ever seen were handed down to me. The contain the meaning of all that is true, and immense power lies within these few words. The words are "Behold the ancient BLEEBER!"

Barducks seems to be a random spawn, but might be up after Patch and/or Server down. I found him up in the caves yesterday after Innoruuk-Server went down.

He spawns deep into the Darkpaw caves north of the fort. (3740 830)

Not sure if he's triggered or not.
