This quest begins with Sentry Kale at location 830, -435, 43, in Skyshrine.

You say, 'Hail, Sentry Kale'

Sentry Kale says 'Another Halfling, in the great shrine? Perhaps the times have gotten worse than we had expected -- I wonder if I will need to reactivate my [sentinel] for further use in my stead.'

You say, 'What sentinel?'

Sentry Kale says 'It was not too long ago that I was merely a chunk of walking velium in the eyes of most who traveled through the shrine. However that golem was in fact one of my sentinels used to keep my identity secluded, and took on the tasks that I gave it. However, there has been a problem recently with our supplies, and I have had to take it offline until further notice.'

You say, 'What problem?'

Sentry Kale says 'As you may have noticed, there are a great deal of golems and gargoyles within the shrine that consist of velium. These are our guards and they serve us well, however with extended use of these creatures comes extensive repair needed. It is because of this necessity to keep our sentries and lookouts working well that we require a great deal of velium ore stocked and ready for use. Unfortunately, our supplies have been running thin and we are in need of a new shipment of ore.'

You say, 'I will deliver the supplies.'

Sentry Kale says 'I may have been wrong in my initial thoughts about your race, Halfling. You may just prove to be worth my time. Take this note now and find Ungdin. Please hurry and remember to keep this information to yourself.'

Sentry Kale will hand you a Velium Delivery Note, which you are to take to a Coldain dwarf named Ungdin in Thurgadin.

He is located at 150, -23, -6.25. (Go into the mines and take the center tunnel. Continue in that tunnel until you come to the next fork of three tunnels. Take the one on your right. He is at the end of that tunnel. There's a table and bench in the room with him.)

Ungdin says 'Hmmm, not sure why you're giving me all this. <cough> 50 pieces <cough> of platinum <cough> Whew, wow, I may be coming down with <cough> and the note <cough> something.'

Give him 50 pp.

Ungdin's eyes dart about the room before retrieving a large box from under the table. He takes the platinum and the note, then hands you the box without a word.

You will have "A shipment of Velium Ore" in your inventory. Take that back to Sentry Kale in Skyshrine and he will say the following:

Sentry Kale says 'You've returned, and with the shipment of ore intact! It was wise to send you out on that mission, ______, and I'm glad you did not fail. If you're looking for more assignments to do, I may have something that is just right for you. If you're interested in it, just let me know and we'll talk.'

Your faction standing with Claws of Veeshan got better.
Your faction standing with Yelinak got better.
Your faction standing with Kromzek got worse.
You gain experience!!
You receive 7 copper from Sentry Kale.
You receive 6 silver from Sentry Kale.
You receive 10 gold from Sentry Kale.
You receive 4 platinum from Sentry Kale.

Platinum reward will vary. You may not get the Bracer of Hammerfal each time and it won't tell if you get one, you'll need to check your inventory if you do get one, but he will finally give you one.

I got my bracer yesterday, 7/13/01. Noteworthy details:

My faction with Skyshrine (CoV) was dubious.
When I first talked to Kale, he gave me the quest.
When I came back, Kale was dead. When the repop appeared, it was a different version of Kale who would not talk to me at dubious.
I gave him the box, and still got the reward. :)

The note from Kale to Ungdin is lore and no-drop, and the velium shipment from Ungdin back to Kale is also lore and no-drop. So you can only do this quest one run at a time.
#Anonymous, Posted: Jul 04 2001 at 6:03 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Why si everyone talking about needing fraction? why would you need fraction to get a note and give it to some dwarf then give another note to a dwarf?
#Anonymous, Posted: Jul 26 2001 at 1:25 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Probably because Sentry Kale isn't a dwarf, you dolt. He's a big walking lump of velium in Skyshrine. He's on Claws of Veeshan faction. In other words... if dragons don't like you, he's going to rip your face off.
#Anonymous, Posted: Jul 30 2001 at 5:05 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Ok, jackass, wanna read that again? he asked about the shipment you get in the thurgadin mines from the dwarf. he wasnt talking about kale. try reading the post or even knowing the quest a little before you shove your foot in your mouth again. possible change in quest
# Jul 04 2001 at 2:28 PM Rating: Decent
Well i went to go do this quest right last night and the message that he gives is much different now. It is possible that I was hailing the wrong guy, but i checked it a couple of times on my other computer that sits next to the one I am on now. He now tells you a story about how they are getting low on food and need to find the spiders that are taking it. He asks you to bring him back spider legs to prove that killed the creatures taking there food.
If I am mistaken could someone please correct me, thanks!

maybe, if you are a sick little factrion getter, if you can kill the wolves (drakel) in great divide or hang out with a group that is, you can get your cov faction up high enough easily.

it will take a long time tho, and you still have to invis thru kael and wakening, id wait till mid 30s so you can easily solo wolves and weaker giants, since its basicaly just a toy

Except for the weight. For unlimited throwing hammers (no more runs to town, tracking down a mage), I can find someplace to cut weight..
RE: Bracers
# Jun 28 2001 at 5:38 PM Rating: Decent
I'd say no...

You need either sneak, or far more likely good Claw of Veeshan faction.

At best, I'd say mid 30s unless you are in an Uber-Guild and you can tag along on a Kael raid for faction hits.

I'm waiting for a few more levels to bring my monk to GD and start working that CoV faction up. Aside from really liking dragons (and hating Giants), this is a must have for monks.

For this quest, you do NOT need an open inventory slot. The box of velium you get in Thurgadin fits in a GIANT slotted container (not large, which would be your fletching kits, sewing kits, hand made backpacks)If you dont' have a GIANT slot, then yes, you'll need an open inventory slot.
easy quest
# Jun 13 2001 at 8:52 PM Rating: Decent
Couldnt I at lvl 25 just do the quest as it requires no mob killing? I was thinking about it as IMHO it is a nice bracer...
RE: easy quest
# Jun 27 2001 at 10:32 PM Rating: Decent
It is feasible, but while you don't have to kill a mob you still need CoV faction, which can be obtained by smacking around giants while other groups are busy with them.

I earned my faction the long way, and I would say at "warmly" I got the bracer the first time around. I would assume that having worse faction could result in the alternate reward.
Charming?

Im KoS both in both SS and Thurgadin, can this quest be done by charming Sentry Kale and the Dorf in mines?
Be careful!!

Two things I found out tonight:

1) Do NOT give the note to Ungdin if you are invisible.

2) Make SURE you have at least one, and probably two to be safe, regular inventory slots open (not in bags).

I tried to do this while invis'd and without a slot for the box he gives you. Seems odd because most quests you can do without inventory slots, the container usually goes onto your cursor and lets you place it...very odd if you ask me.

Will try again tomorrow.

You can do the quest whenever you are able, BUT the bracer wont cast until you are 45+.
Just like all the armor from Kunark and Veliuos with spells on them.

not true, I have a level 20 monk friend with one of these, and he can cast it at level 20.

# May 05 2001 at 7:31 PM Rating: Default
Do you HAVE to be lvl 45 to do this quest???
RE: Is lvl correct?
# May 05 2001 at 9:26 PM Rating: Decent
I am curious for the same reason as you. There is no mob slaying to be done in this quest, so how did they come up with that level as minimum???
RE: Is lvl correct?
# Sep 04 2001 at 9:22 AM Rating: Decent
They have that level as a minimum because you have to be a reasonable level to kill giants to get the faction for the skyshrine quest. Duhh

Have done this quest 3 times, and all 3 times have gotten the bracer. Don't know if this is luck, or what. Very nice bracer too.

i bound myself in the kitchen and did this quest over and over, went from dubious to indifferent and spent around 1300pp doing it. Unfortunately i discovered a bug, not sure if it's linked to this quest.

I dropped off the note to the miner in thurg, gated back to the kitchen and was instantly kos..i should say PERMANENTLY kos..ALL of my faction throughout norrath had been reset to the very beginning of my level 58 druid. One other person in the zone mentioned getting the same bug and the GM's will NOT help you, they say faction is taboo and can't be touched.

# Aug 09 2001 at 7:22 PM Rating: Default
friend of mine had his faction reset by a gm because he had slain the named kerran for the paw of opalla quest...gms are not consistent in they're daily judgments and one gms ruling can drastically differ from the one before..just my 2cps worth

How many times did you do the quest before becoming KOS? This is a very important part of your post you left out. =)
RE: be very careful with this quest
# Jul 05 2001 at 1:34 AM Rating: Default
Has nothing to do with this mythical faction roll over everyone wants to talk about. Its because he got a faction change before the faction tables were loaded. If you get a faction change too soon on zoning in it updates your factions from base before the actual factions you've gotten over the life of your character have been loaded thus causing all factions to be reset.

Quick way to reset factions if you really need to tho =)

Got mine on first try.
# Apr 15 2001 at 12:39 AM Rating: Default
I just got mine on first try while still dubious to cov and dwarfs. Just say "i am willing" to sentry Kale for the note for Ungdin. I even bound myself next to Ungdin as I expected to have to do the quest a few times to get the bracer. So on my first try I guess I was lucky. They look like undyed plate on my elf druid so its not bad just for the new look.
Faction? I don't think so....
# Apr 15 2001 at 12:05 AM Rating: Default
Ok, I did this with coning Dubiously and got Bracer first time. I thought peeps said you needed indiff?

P.S. Hammers are cool, I use them to kill lower level mobs in Lesser Fay while doing Tunar quests.
My findings
# Mar 21 2001 at 6:56 AM Rating: Decent
Been doing this quest a few times now and here is some things and that I found out.

As mentioned somewhere else you MUST have two slots open in you MAIN inventory to receive the bracer. Mind you first time we did it I had two slots open and got it..a monk following didnt have and didn't get it. But got it afterwards when he had two slots. After that I've done the quest with three friends, everyone got the bracer the first time and had two slot open.

One of the quests Kale hands out you can be dubious to receive - think its the spiderlegging one. You have to be indifferent for the bracer one tho.

Kale do NOT have to hand out the quest when returning the velium. Just make sure you are indifferent and you have two slots open. I have two confirmations on this. One on a monk who took the chance while I was there with one friend - and the friend did it afterwards and she got it also.
RE: My findings
# Mar 28 2001 at 9:12 AM Rating: Default
I would say you were incredibly lucky, but that doesn't mean that you have found "the secret" to this quest. I have done this quest several times for the faction and for the first 5 or 6 times I got no bracer for my efforts. Then I finally got it the next trip and since then I have gone 3 for 5 attempts with a bracer, all the while having 1 inventory slot open. So I believe it is more of a random thing. Now if only these things weren't no drop.....hehe
RE: My findings
# Mar 23 2001 at 5:16 PM Rating: Default
I got the Bracer with only one inventory slot open, and while at Apprehensive faction.

I had previously done the quest twice, while at Dubious, and received only faction and coin.

Well, sorry to burst your bubble,
but I'm a monk, thus I always have *four* slots open, and it didn't work the 2 times I tried.
Got xp, cash, and that's it.

Those of your that got the Bracer: what was your faction with CoV when you got it?

I'm at Dubious now, and I'm wondering if I should get myself to Apprehensive or even Indifferent before spending another 50pp ;)

If you get attacked by a goo in the mines while you are on your way to Ungdin, run to him. He was nice enough to assist me in killing the one that jumped on me. I managed to get the killing spellcast on the goo, and looted 5pp and change from it.

:)
