As a pally I ran round GD, EW, KD etc casting quick light heals on people fighting them, had SoW on and light heals cost hardly any mana. Due to me not hitting and only healing the other players I got no complaints and raised my faction in no time, especially in KD. No danger to myself either and even healed raid parties. Killing them myself was too time consuming and stopped once i had enough heads and toes for Coldain Shawl Quest.

Fastest Way to check faction is port to Cobalt Scar and con a wyvern or a cobalt drake.

You can turn in if your faction is still dubiosly.

i hand him a mix of ~45 frost/storm giant toes and around 50 helmets and go from low dubiosly to high kindly.

Raising Faction
# Oct 08 2003 at 4:32 PM Rating: Decent
I went from KoS to ally in 3 raids.

The first 2 times I went and hunted giants just inside Kael with a small group for several hours. Went from scowling to threatening.

The next time I tagged along on a raid with another guild -- Note: Vindi is NOT a big faction hit. He gives the same faction as all other arena giants. -- But hitting each giant along the way for faction was very helpful. Went from threatening to dubious.

3rd time I joined up for a full-fledged arena raid with my guild. We stayed there 4-5 hours and just constantly killed the entire arena except Vindi. I went from dubious to amiable here.

Then, since I'd been away several months, pretty much everyone else had higher CoV faction, so my guildies very kindly gave me the 19 Giant Warrior Helms and 20-25 toes that dropped in the arena. I turned these in and went from amiable to ally, and able to do the SS armor quests.

Note -- even with faction-buff (Collaboration), I am still not MAX ally.. but ally nonetheless.

COV Faction
# Mar 27 2003 at 1:56 PM Rating: Default
Can someone please explain the significance of raising/lowering CoV faction? I am sensing the need to visit WW to aquire higher level (59+) shaman spells though I do not understand the ramifications of the CoV faction hits that seem inevitable. Will I need to rebuild faction if I trash it by attacking Dragonkind? If so, why? Before flaming me as a noob, I am Iksar shaman with little experience beyond Kunark....thanks in advance for your response(s).
RE: COV Faction
# May 06 2003 at 6:26 AM Rating: Excellent
The importance of either positive or negative Cov faction is for the Velious Quests in Skyshrine and Kael (indirectly). By raising CoV faction (best method: killing giants in Kael) and hunting in HoT (Hall of Testing in Temple of Veshan) you can complete some very nice Armor quests in Skyshrine. By fighting in Skyshrine, thus lowering CoV faction you raise Kael (Giant) faction and can complete Kael Quests which also net nice SETS of armor. The components for the Skyshrine armor drop in HOT and the components for Kael armor drop in the West area inside Temple of Veshan. The Kael armor has slightly greater Ac then the Skyshrine armor. The Skyshrine armor has slightly higher stats and mana which is prefered by Casters. Both sets of armor are far better the the Thurgadin Quested armor and MUCH better then the armor sets from Plane of Fear and Hate.

There are numerous additional quests involving Cov faction not directly related with the armor quests and the eventual result is that most will go Negative faction in order to fight in North Tov and in Sleepers tomb. Both of which will yield greater items then West ToV and East (Hot) Tov.

At that level, many people are interested in raiding HoT (halls of testing) in the Temple of Veeshan. HoT is the part of the zone where there are no faction hits. If you were to fight there KoS however, you'd get enough adds to wipe out a small village..

I was KoS merely 3 hours ago on CoV faction, the trick is to find out when a high end guild is raiding Kael. They went and fought the Avatar of War and all of his buddies and all I had to do was tag the Mobs along the way. Go to upper end guild websites or just do a /who all "<guild>" on some powerful guild name and ask if/when they are raiding Kael.

OK so from what everyone says, what I should do is 1) aggro and train around a bunch of drakkel wolves and wait for people to pick them off one at a time as they need them, 2) join a group in Kael (if you can find a spot) 3) if there is a ring war going on, stand there and shoot off a low level spell at all the mobs. The Kael Mobs give 5 times the factions of the EW and GD mobs but the GD mobs are a lot easier to kill (especially if you train them to Thurg zone where the dorfs will kill them).

Here is THE BEST wqay to improve your faction. I went from Threatening to dubious in less than an hour. Go into Kael and tag along on a raid if people are going after vindi or statue or AOW. all the mobs you have to kill on the way there give HUGE faction hits and I went from KOS to dubious just by taggin along (thanky ou lost order of aka.... for letting me tag along and even letting me get in on some of the loot).

Anyone any idea what you have to con to be able to do the CoV faction turn-ins in Skyshrine? I con apprehensive but they still arent talking to me. I have lots of Ogre Mercenary Assignments to hand in, but if I have to con ally to do even the faction quest, it's pointless having them.

BTW - the named mob I meant to refer to for the hand in was Lieutenant Milven. Tried him and one of the 'new' sentries - same result. I hailed him and he just abused me lol. I then just handed one of the assignments anyway and got no response.

Do I need to be at least indifferent?

New faction/quest sequence for Skyshrine since the November 2002 patch

"Entry" quest available at all factions:
1. Kromzek Mercenary Brooches
2. You may be able to turn in Giant Warrior Helms and Frost Giant Toes to Lieutenant Milven for faction starting around dubious.

Quests that require kindly faction:
1. Ancient Dragon Tome
2. Draconic Fellowship Drum">
3. Draconic Fellowship Horn
4. Draconic Fellowship Lute
5. Helms of Giant Warriors NOTE quest giver is now Lt. Milven
6. Mask of Draconic Enhancement

Quests that require warmly faction:
1. Leuz's Task
2. Mercenary Captains (quest details submitted but not in database yet... see Mercenary Brooches discussion thread for details for the time being)
3. Notorious Mercenaries

Note that these are faction levels required to receive the quest text. There are reports of quest turn ins being accepted with lower faction for some of the quests - see the individual quest discussions for the latest information.

Answered part of this myself. I took some frost Giant toes to Lt Milven. Whilst he just abuses me verbally if I hail him, when I handed in the toes I got the required faction hits.

So the question now is, have VI nerfed the mercenary assignment turn ins - or is it bugged?

Another COV Faction ??
# Nov 19 2002 at 5:15 PM Rating: Decent
More faction questions for COV. I've been hunting in CS and SF a lot lately to get to lvl 53. I don't ever recall ever seeing a COV faction hit, however I'm kos to WOUSHI and everything in SS. I have never killed any of the Named mobs in CS. I'm a Half Elf Druid, do we start out KOS to COV?

Would love to start doing the quests in SS but they don't want to play nice...
RE: Another COV Faction ??
# Apr 29 2003 at 9:33 AM Rating: Default
You don't need to kill the named mobs in CS to lose CoV faction. The Azure Drakes are on that faction also, although the wyverns are not (but the named wyvern Yvolcarn obviously is).

Everyone starts out with crappy CoV faction, regardless of race/class. It also seems to raise more slowly than dwarf faction, so don't think that because you're ally to dwarves that you'll be in good with the dragons as well.

I know what you mean. I have long since been kindly to the dwarves and have yet to even hit dubious with the dragons. I hope to get them next. Who needs the giant faction anyway. Ill get my rings and the shawl from the dwarves and get my armor from SS. Besides i dont like giants. what can i say, its the view. Id rather not have to stare at a creatures crotch while talking to it.

I have been working forever on my CoV faction. I am now at the point of dubious to both CoV and RoS. While working on this faction I have become ally in Thurgadin to the point where my faction could not get any better, kos to the kromrif to the point that my faction could not get any worse, and so kos in Mistmoore that it could not get any worse if I sold my soul to Mistmoor himself. And I'm still freaking dubious!!! Well, at least I can walk through all of the dragon cities unmolested.

atm I am ally with Coldain and still KoS with CoV so your analogy about wolf form and warmly/dubious doesn't hold water at all.. I have daily been killing in GD and tagging everything I can. wolf or giant, and still have seen absolutely No movement at all in CoV faction cons... all I ever see is "Claws of Veeshan got better"...
and yes I have killed extensively throughout GD, EW, Kael, and WL.. in the last week alone more than 1000 hits without a blip of change

Tagging/killing in Kael is definitely the way to go.

But while you're working on that Coldain faction, get lots of trader satchels and save your frost giant toes. Once you're apprehensive to CoV, you can take the toes to Sentry Kcor in SS (the WL entrance).

I had just made apprehensive. Turned in 12 toes. Got half a blue XP (at level 47) prolly 60 plat, and a jump to indifferent.

SO killing FG's will help your Coldain faction way more than your CoV. But it's an investment. Although the fast track to good CoV faction for sure is going to Kael to get hits.

Best way I have found to raise CoV faction is to be in Great Divide during a Ringwar and hit as many mobs as you can with a low level spell. Went from apprehensive to indifferent with one war and from amiable to ally with second war. Works great. P.S. Try not to use Flash of Light because it really ticks them off and these are tougher than normal (red to level 40) Giants.

A great way to raise faction with Ring of Scale is to hunt in Mistmoore.

Really? You think so?

First, look up there in that list and show me one thing that you can kill in SKYFIRE that will lower your CoV faction.

Second, show me a better zone to raise your Ring of Scale faction than Mistmoore. Most if not all creatures in MM raise Antonican Bards and Ring of Scale.

For a level 58 you certainly haven't played the game much. Did you jump on the Kunark Express?

Storm giants in WL are awesome faction. Hunted for maybe 3-4 hours at most and went from KoS to Dubious with dragons. Only killed maybe 5 named, mostly just the escorts.
EASY way to test your CoV Faction
# Aug 01 2002 at 11:10 AM Rating: Default
The EASIEST way I have found to get your CoV faction is to get a druid or wizard to Teleport (or Translocate if you have gate) you to Cobalt Scar. Walk outside the portal and con a Wyvern or Drake. These MoBs are on CoV faction. NOW, you CAN kill these mobs with NO CoV Faction HIT. If you want to quad kite these MoBs for xp go ahead NO FACTION HIT at all. But they ARE on CoV Faction if you want a quick test of your CoV faction. Also go to Wakening Lands and con Whoshi if she is up.

In East Wastes at the giant area near where people hunt ulthork, there are also some mobs called An Ogre Mercenary. When you kill them you lose faction with the Kromrif, the Kromzek, King Tormax, and gain it with the Claws of Veeshan. Also, they drop two no drop items basically every time but I have been unable to find what they are used for. The items they dropped were Mercenary Assignments and a Kromzek Mercenary Brooch. If anyone has any idea what they're usaed for it'd be appreciated if they would post so here.

Cov & Kromzek?
# Mar 14 2002 at 2:28 AM Rating: Decent
Is there a way to raise Kromzek and CoV faction?

Apparantly you can use the heads that are dropped from the creatures in the Thurgadin mines to gain Kael faction without losing a lot of Thurg faction until you are ready to turn in the heads, but...

Is it even possible to "cheat" in such a way that you can raise CoV and Kael at the same time?

I was always under the impression that you could, but most guilds on my server go for +CoV and +Coldain, so I haven't had any first-hand experience with it.

Decide which faction you want first: CoV or Kromzek.

If Kromzek, start by killing Dorfs til you're Amiable or better. Then start killin off the Giants til you're Amiable to Dragons. Finally, kill off more dorfs.

If CoV, kill Giants right away til CoV is amiable, then kill Dorfs for a living.

Don't look at it how to cheat, but the best way about changing this faction I have come across is very simple. Go to Kael, find a group and ask if you can snare (or use a lvl 1 spell) on each mob to obtain CoV faction. The best I can tell so far, is the deeper into Kael you go; the better the faction is.

Hope this helps,

I liked someone's idea of trying to go in and get a single hit/low lvl dmging spell on Tormax while an uber guild is raiding for the impressive faction hits. My question is, would one get + CoV faction for it, or does one only get + with Coldain and/or Dain for gettin the hits of Tormax? Hehe also, are there any uber guilds out there on Ayoane Ro server that i could perhaps leach a faction hit off tormax from?

No. You cannot run up to Yelinak and say hello to him. He is on his own faction (Yelinak faction - dahh), which can only be improved via quests. I've heard you can also get +Yelinak for getting faction off Tormax, but not sure about that. I've not been to ToV yet, but I doubt everything there is safe as well, since you have to kill dragons there to get SS quest armor.
