finding the madman that cons indiferently was not so hard, but then it accidently got killed, we had to wait 2 hours for it to respawn and it still would not respond to my tells.. i snared it cause it was walking away and it turned from indifferent to threateningly, we had the chanter mindwipe it and it conned indifferently again..
I said the script words and finished the event np... but thought you all might want to know about the "if you kill it before you start the event, you have to wait 2 hours for respawn" also mindwipe works if you make it mad.
Its me the 56 warr guy I'm not allowed there anymore. While following them i get attacked by the guards But I also wast them which kills my faction making it annoying for me around there and so on. I dont really even like it there anymore. It used to be where i tweaken strangers and pwr lvled them tho. I once armed a lvl one with full crusty armor and a shield (iksar targ) and a sword (Yheska short sword)
If u find me now in lake of ill omen i may tweak you.
I thought this was funny, I was fighting one of those caster madmen (meanies) and suddenly he says, "Damn, my eyes! You're all an Illusion! I think they are very funny :D

I was doing my normal morning lusty kill when i ran across a madman who conned blue to me. Normally this would not be a problem to me as i am a shaman with the ability to sow and run away from it. I decided to take it on and kill it for some decent exp. Little did I know it was a caster so i decided to run from it and all i got was a quick death by spell casting...
My only question is why do NPC's get better mana than a lvl 9 Shaman

wtf? who said they don't cast? most don't but sum cast like a mo! their damage spells range from a mere 5 to a whopping 78 (plus the kick back from the spell has pushed me off hills, causing up to 100 additional damage)!!! when i see madmen, i get the heck away. if they can cast, they can kill me...sow or no sow.
Just a bit of advice, if confronted by a madman caster, do not run away, they will kill you very quickly with their 80hp DD spells, just stay and fight and be sure to get a /loc.
There is nothing worse than getting jumped after a fight with and orc warrior on the orc hyw by a Madman caster. It has cost me many of good lay hands and even then taken me to 1/2 health after that.
Not much too add. Some good info below. Just wanted to say these guys are retarded and a nuisance and can hurt you even if they are green to you especially if they are the casters.
Do not underestimate these guys. I just turned 20th and I have been hunting the spiders in the three deserts. (NRO, Oasis, and SRO). I am a monk and jumped a spider in NRO when over the hill walks this guy.
I noticed him when he grasping roots me and it succeeds. I continue fighting the spider until blast after blast of spell drops me to two bubbles of health. I keep feigning, but it fails (And my skill is only a paltry 102).
The zone is not far, but I can't move - 1.5 bubbles of health - will this Feign Death work?
Nope.
one bubble of health - I CAN MOVE. I run for the zone and blam Wind Spell - I am stunned. NO, I am unconcious - the world goes black, I die.
Excerp from Skrax's diary, an Iksar Monk hunting very far from home.

A week ago, my level 15 cleric (also named Kyrsi, who has since been deleted) was wondering and poking about nro as I normally do with my Druid friend Alura (level 8 at the time, I was helping her kill spiders).
I ran into a madman, who I've fought before, but never seen as a caster. It was a druid. Being cocky, I ended up going into the fight with very little mana, since I didn't realize it was a caster, and it conned green.
As the thing started to beat me to a bloody pulp, I told my friend to run. As the madman knocked me down, a shriveled mummy came up, and attacked HIM, instead of me, oddly enough instead of frenzing on my body, the madman was distracted away, leaving me to bleed. So I'm laying here with the lovely overhead camera, watching the madman (I really love how NPCs can cast to their heart's content. Grr) pound the mummy into bandages.
The madman killed the mummy with the half health I had knocked it at, having conned green to me, and mummies generally conning stronger (I couldn't con this one as I was dieing), only to be jumped by a second mummy. It was at this point that I died from bleeding.
It's too bad npcs that kill npcs don't leave corpses, cause when I came back to get my corpse, not a single mummy or madman was to be found anywhere nearby, and it was a short walk since I did bind in east FP.
Since that time, I've given up playing a cleric (I really hate sitting on my rear, watching the battle in the text window while I med to heal others), and started a druid. Maybe I was envious that the madman druid could take out mummies better than a cleric could. =)
It's strange having Alura on a higher level than me now, heehee.
Moral of the story: The overhead camera provides for some super exciting death footage! Ohyeah, and madmen hurt. Muchly.
There are 4 types of classes I have come across in my merciless extermination of madmen.
Wizard: They use a fire based damage shield (YOU are burned)And have no qualms using the 80DD spell of theirs (You convulse as lightning beams course through you).
Druid: These use a thorn damage shield (YOU are pierced by thorns) They will also use a wind spell that stuns you and a fire based DD that does about 11 damage. Grasping Roots is another that seems to take hold at the worse times (i.e Corpse retreival).
Monk: Not as dangerous as the casters. You know you are fighting a Monk if they Strike you or Block some of your hits.
Warrior: These are the most common madmen in Nro, they often spawn with a rusty or bronze sword of one type or another.
Note: Most of the casters are found near the Oasis side and if you watch them from afar they will buff themselves and so on.
Madmen drop lots of Water Flasks, gold coins, rusty and bronze weapons, and lower gems such as Bloodstones and Carnelians. They also have a habit of fighting mummies which is always fun to watch.
i killed these guys easily at 6 because i made friends with a druid a druid who happened to be a 60.She buffed me and told me to come find her again when i reached lv.7 which was easy
Some of these things are casters.. and will cast spells that suck HP's out of you in a hurry. One conned blue to my level 15 druid.. I tried it.. and died before I knew what hit me. I went back after looting my corpse and picked a fight with the same madman.. and died again very quickly. Then I got so annoyed that I zoned into Oasis and kited a deepwater croc that conned yellow to me.. and got some of my exp back ;) Anyway, to hell with madmen. I'll never attack one again unless I'm attacked first. They're not worth it.
I agree! The caster Madmen are very, very nasty to lvls 12-15. Something interesting to note: the sand dune to the left when looking south at Derv 3 seems to be a regular spawn point (or they like to walk by there...) for these nasties. Either that or I was very unlucky. During a 2-3 hour camp of Derv three, I was using the foot of that dune to med up after battles. Not once, not twice, but THREE times I got jumped by a madman. The second was a caster that hammered me for almost half my hp before I could get up and find him. That one ended up in a long corpse run. Anyway, I started medding elsewhere. My advice, unless you're buffed well, steer clear of them under lvl 15! :-) Gaasbig - Druz-Ro
Damn straight. Lvl 9 Monk right, looking around, just turned 9, conned one, white. I check around, no buddies, clear area, go for him. It is the first time I have been whupped like that on a white. I have always been able to take them one on one. granted, they take ME down a bit, but I am relatively healthy at the outcome. Answer, at 9+, levels ain't what they seem. Did I mention they group too. HAH, they aren't mad at all, they are cunning.
better believe it!!! at 13 one conned blue. but it attacked me. so i look around and it is far away castin' on me. but it cons blue. no prob right? wrong. damn thing almost killed me when i hit a cripling blow (47). i **** my pants. it turned and ran. i only had 58 hp left.
Guards often don't attack things that would be considered friendly to their race. The GFay guards won't attack the elven bandits and the same with the pixies and faeries. Iksar guards won't attack Buryunai (sp?) either. There are probably much more that I haven't seen yet.
My theory about why the guards dont attack the madman is because they are they are considered one of their own kind, human, crazy as they may be. Same goes for other types too i was in the greater Faydark when i was a newbie, got attacked by three bandits and like any sensible newbie would ran to the guards who in turn did squat to help, they just sat there and watched as i got thoroughly thrashed. Well thats my theory anyway good huntin all.
Last night I encountered the Madman close to the newbie zone and the two guards there did nothing to help me or the other person who was attacked by the Madman. My character is human and the guards had previously killed anything that I was fighting that came too close to them. Does anyone know why they will run to attack anything else that comes near, but not this Madman?
If you know what you are dealing with, attack them. If you have no idea what a madman can do. Stay away. BTW Guards don't anything to help you. Run to a zone!!
If your hunting in NRo or SRo (not sure about Oasis) make sure you pull these guys to a wall or an area where you are safe from attacks from other Madmen. One or two arent that bad, but I had 6 on me at once and we never moved, so I didnt train them. If your out in the middle of the desert youll have trouble getting your body because of them. They seem to know where weak PC's are
Any creature that cons dubious to you or is the least bit aggressive will attack you if you're weak. I once barely killed a young kodiak in EC and was within a couple of hitpoints of being toast myself. While I was looting the corpse, a FIRE BEETLE of all things attacked and killed me. Damn, did I curse! Learned a lesson though ;)
