The reason the little SOB runs so fast and is sometimes hard to find, is that he is a large target for rangers (cuzz hes part of the ivy etched quest) and if the rangers want theiry ivy, they have to track the *******. druid and bard tracking isnt nearly as reliable (by the time a ranger is strong enough, their tracking should be at least 130, far greater than a bards and WAY higher than a druids). so, if your hunting him, its a good idea to have a high quality track. its not needed, but the quicker hes found, the quicker he gets to die! heh heh. I just like the sound of that!
Is Thistle spawning? I heard from a druid and a group that they hadn't seen him all night and I didn't see him for the 15 or 20 minutes I spent in Lesser Fay tonight. Got owned bye a brownie outcast. :( Anyway please post up if you've seen him, cuz i want my ivy tunic
I saw him once last night but he dropped the pouch, and I also saw Bracken (who I believe also drops the cords) but he also dropped the pouch. Brownie outcasts pop very close to where I've seen him (near the pixie tower)... Maybe its just a pop off one of the pixies? I'd like to know the placeholder...
This guy is pretty tough, well I am lvl 25. He casts Creeping Crud, lvl 24 dot, 12 per a tick I think, cast it several times in a row oddly, he also does cancel magic and roots. When he is at about half life, he will begin to heal himself about 2 times and then proceed to nuke and melee you to death. I killed him with a bored high lvl and he was easy until the high lvl left. He got me down to 10 hp then died, the dot knocked me unconcious and then left luckily. I do believe the cords are very random drop. Thistle is a very fast spawn also. I dont think hes spiriot of cheetah cause in wolf form I could run slightly faster than him.
He is small(brownie) and runs extremely fast(Spirit of Cheetah). Therefore, take a Ranger and a Bard to hunt him. Day before yesterday me and 2 friends decided to hunt him a while. I(bard) put on Selo's and autofollow the Ranger while he tracks. We killed him about 10 times day before yesterday and got zero cords. We killed him twice yesterday and got 2 cords. He always has had the Rune of Ivy. We always just did a /shout telling /loc of it and left it on the body. He seems to spawn quickly after he dies usually near the north wall if I'm not mistaken.
He has a nasty dmg shield. Also whenever he starts his area effect dmg spell back up and let him finish before continuing to beat him senseless. I was the highest one in the group at lvl 27 and he was an easy fight (Other 2 were like 26 and 23).
When i was and killed the badits sisters in lasserFay on the dark night i saw some on cast spells out in the dark wood so i pressed hide and looked around then he came from the dark woods and started to kill all sisters in the camp and when he had killed them all dident want to go he stayed there for maybe 10 min and just kille all my sisters ( hehe but after 10 min he left the camp for me.Nianae woodelf rogue level 13
faction hit to brownies wouldn't matter anyway. They slaughter anyone on sight unless you are in wolf form. I dont think you can get much more hated then that.
me a half elf ranger that has never done a thing to upset a browine in his life is NOT and i repeat NOT KOS to brownies not so sure about thistle though ran right in a did a little shoping with the brownie merchants even.
I am a Woodelf druid and my melee skills arent the best.. but i just put dmg shields up and snared him .. then nuked while meleeing .. no problem.. i had enough for 2 heals when he died. Mind you , healing will be needed if you are swarmed when he dies.
Thistle Underbrush cons yellow to me(level 23) So he must be about level 24? If you get him on track and target him when you are camoed and hit him FIRSTwith dd/stun (druid wind spell) dot /dd and root or snare...one can win against him. Thistle has killed me but I got him twice and wear the cords. If he gets off spells or starts meles you will die :)
I killed him three times last night and no cords. :(. He conned blue to me at 29, a Druid. I opened each fight with my 170 point blast then layed my two 200 point DoTs on him and chain casted until dead. I darn near died once - my 110 bind wound skill saved me from the DoT I still had on me while oom and him laying on the ground dead. Hard fight, but very much in your favor at level 29 if you are a Druid.
As of one of the last patches Thistle has incresed in diffuculty. He now will root you and uses Creeping Crud instead of Stinging Swarm now, still casts Ignite though.
The other item needed is Meldrath's Skull which is gotten off Meldrath the Malignant; a gnome necromancer who resides within the minotaur caves in Steamfont.

I'm a midlevel 30's druid helping a friend get ivy-etched, I knew thistle spawned close to Glyndur Tindale but had never fought him... I found him today not far from Glyndur... Easy kill just nuke him He casts stinging Swarm btw :)
He doesn't just have SOW he has SOC as any 24 druid would have I was fighting bandits in the LFD when he screamed by me so fast it was like a blur, first thing I thought was "hmm, 10 minutes for corpse recovery and ..." then about 2 min later he had not come back yet a 14 druid gets real scared so you azone for a minute and go back counting those lucky stars hehehehehe point SPIRIT OF CHEETAH on thistle
You guys just aren't fighting him right. If you melee, you will die. You need to kill this guy fast and you need to nuke hard. Since he wastes time casting, he's not hitting you with his fists, allowing your spells to get through easily. He reminds me of a Ranger who is stupid enough to use spells more than weapons. If you are a caster with some 200 damage spells, you will take these guys out so fast you'll be laughing at the melee fighters. But that's just how the game works. Want to change channels? Laugh at a caster trying to fight Charlotte, the clockwork.
The level of Thistle is correct but a triffle misleading as he is a very tough little brownie. An effective stategy for druids hunting him for the chords is to open with cancel magic repeatedly to remove his skin, damage shield, and SoW buffs. Then DoT, and enter melee. As a caster he would prefer to DoT, nuke you and run around, but with his damge shield gone it is much better to enter melee and nuke between hits. This strategy has worked successfully for a lvl 27 druid solo. No chords as of yet (very unlucky for the number of kills), they apparently drop 40% of the time.
I found these guys to be complete wimps. Thistle was only casting Stinging Swarm and like an idiot was chain casting it, allowing me to nuke him to a quick death. He almost never engaged much in melee and the few times he wasn't casting, he was hitting for 10s and 1s (me being low 30s). They run really fast, even when Snared. Tend to have damage shields up. Both drop the same rune. Both have a chance to drop a bag of animal charming dust or the cords, including an additional item, usually a research item, and brownie parts.
The lower level one is named Bracken and he is rare. He drops the cords but not the rune. Thistle hits for 50, casts Creeping Crud, and Pogonip. He can deal out a lot of damage so be ready for him.
...and Thistle always drops the rune though the cords are hard to get sometimes.
This guy con'd form blue to me at 27th, and resisted snare twice before I got him although it didn't slow him much, he hit's pretty hard and his spells are mean as well, another miscon. The only reason I didn't die was that two people hunting in the area helped me out, I didn't even do enough damage to get the exp but did get the rune I was after. Beware of trying to solo him if your lower then 30's
This guy dropped a 30 War REAL quick, despite what you're readin here. he hit for 40+ and had a NASTY Thorn Shield on him. Be ready to chain stun this little bugger, as he was dropping the 30 War at half a bubble (or more) per round.
