This spell is very useful in certain situations. For example, the ONLY animals in Marus Seru are Greyhoppers and Zelniaks. Everything else is a Monster. So, if you want to hunt the relatively scarce greyhoppers in a huge outdoor zone, Sense Animals is a superb help

maybe, but it's your first Divination spell, and you can't start working spell skills too early.....fizzle....fizzle...fizzle.

RE: Divination practice, True North is also divination, and you can learn it at 5 if you really want to practice early - same mana cost, though, and practicing with sense animal will maybe at least point you towards something to hunt...
I kinda like spinning myself with True North, though. Come to think of it, Flash of Light is divination, as well, and you can learn that right at the get go - from Halas, had to get it from Clerics in PoK, though.

gay? not at all! especially for a vah shir beastlord like myself who is working up tailoring.. i cant track, so its the best (if not only) way to find animals in the karanas without running around aimlessly.

me and my wige lebai are teaming up so the spell helps find animals so we can charm or kill i am a ranger i have alot of animal stuff like panic animal and lull

What is the main point for this spell?

I used it in everfrost peak in the cavern to check for the glacier bear for the totem armor quest it is a rare spawn and rather than sit for a week just pop in and cast.

my guess is a low mana spell that builds up your div skill.
It could also be used, theoretically, to look for some kind of named animal spawn, if it spawns in a zone that has few other animals. But yeah, besides building up your own Div skill, there's not that much point to this spell, same as Sense the Dead and Sense Summoned.
Actually, you all are missing the other main use.
Shaman and druids get spells to charm animals. However, you often cannot tell if something is an "animal" just by looking at it.
Cast this spell, and the nearest pet is targetted, and you know its an animal,. before you cast.
