Rain of Fear Information & Guides: An Overview | Group Progression & Task List | Raid Progression | Visible Armor

This is a solo task, the third task in a series of four. It begins with Kilithyr in the aqueduct area (findable with CTRL+F). He is at 1520, 50, 143.

To get to this area, you can jump down the well in the very far northeastern part of the zone or use one of the four portals scattered throughout the zone. For mapped locations, see the image on this NPC entry.

Pre-Requisites:
- Level 85
- Completion of "Prove Your Worth, Slave"
- Completion of "How Puzzling All These Changes Are"

You say, 'Hail, Kilithyr'

Kilithyr says 'A fake city! Can you believe these dirty shissar have been holding us in a make-believe prison? The [scars] feel real enough.'

You say, 'What scars?'

Kilithyr says 'We've all bore our fair share of the bloody burden, and it's time we make the shissar bear theirs. If the people here are fake, we don't need to [hold back on our methods].'

You say, 'Hold back on our methods?'

Kilithyr says 'Think about it! If the shissar here [are not real people], then we should have no problem blowing them up with explosives.'

You say, 'They are not real people...'

Kilithyr says 'We don't actually know how many people are real here, but your tests in the residential area indicate that at least that section is fake. We'll focus [our efforts] on that part of town for now.'

You say, 'Our efforts?'

Kilithyr says 'We're going to raise hell and get the attention of whatever shissar is running this freak show. Get out there and make a scene, _____.'

You have been assigned the task 'Hold Nothing Back'.

The news that the city you're trapped in is fake has convinced the slaves to no longer hold back in their attempts to break free. You've been tasked with causing as much mayhem to the populace as possible.

  • 1. Collect cursed weapons from cultists 0/5 (Chelsith Reborn)

Task Window Says: Start by collecting weapons from the shissar, troll cultists, and a spiritspeaker hiding in the aqueduct. You can find them in the southern and eastern tunnels of the aqueduct.

Kill cultist mobs in the south and east tunnels of the aqueducts until you have five updates.

  • 2. Kill metalworkers 0/5 (Chelsith Reborn)

  • 3. Place cursed weapons into equipment chests 0/5 (Chelsith Reborn)

  • 4. Collect hunks of living flame 0/8 (Chelsith Reborn)

Task Window Says: Head up to the surface and find the industrial area in the northwest part of the city. Kill the metalworkers building the shissar weapons and armor. Place the cursed weapons you stole into the equipment chests in the area, usually located near forges. And while you're there, collect hunks of living flame from the flame golems and flame arcanists working the forges.

Metalworkers are found in the industrial area (map -- northwestern quarter of the zone, in and around the buildings).

For the equipment updates, you just have to click on five of them. If you are part of a group getting these updates and all on the same step, they update automatically for everyone in your group. NOTE: When you do this, a non-aggro mob spawns and casts an AE knockback (this will break any invis buff).

You slipped a cursed weapon into the equipment chest, where an unsuspecting Shissar is sure to grab it.

a new recruit punts you aside. 'Out of my way, ugly slave! I need to grab weapons before my patrol starts.'

a new recruit says 'What's happening? Ahhhhh!'

a new recruit crumples to the ground in sheer agony as the cursed weapons tear his flesh apart.

Flame golems and flame arcanists (map) are found in the same area. This isn't an actual item; just a kill update. Upon the last one, you receive a "Living Flame".

  • 5. Collect holy relics from male shissar elders 0/8 (Chelsith Reborn)

  • 6. Kill shissar matriarchs 0/4 (Chelsith Reborn)

  • 7. Light shissar young on fire 0/12 (Chelsith Reborn)

Task Window Says: You must strike at the shissar in their homes if you really want to get Vyzh'dra's attention. Kill male shissar elders and rip the holy symbols off their clothes and jewelry. Kill shissar matriarches in their homes. Then use the living flame item you took from the industrial area to light the defenseless shissar young on fire. Don't let their cries dissuade you. Remember, everyone here is made from crystal, and not real.

Head to the residential area in the north-central part of the zone and kill any adult shissar in the area until you have eight updates (a scheming noble, a tranquil mediator and a troubled seer are some of the mobs that will update this step). Upon the last update, you receive "Bundle of Holy Symbols".

Matriarches are found in the north-central part of the zone (map).

The young shissar (which are aggro-linked with their matriarch) are found in the same area. Use the "Living Flame" on the young shissar.

The living flame leaps from your fingertips and engulfs the shissar young in a ball of fire. The small shissar reverts to lifeless crystal and shatters under the heated pressure.

  • 8. Throw the symbol package to cultists in the sewers 0/1 (Chelsith Reborn)

Task Window Says: Retreat back to the aqueducts and throw the shissar holy symbols you've found to a cultist or a necromancer in the south or eastern tunnels, by clicking the item in your inventory. With any luck, they'll use them to curse the shissar and demoralize them even further. Keep your distance though, the cultists are still dangerous.

With any shissar or troll cultist targeted (from a distance), right-click the Bundle of Holy Symbols.

You throw the bundle of shissar holy symbols to the cultist, who cackles wickedly.

an escaped cultist says 'We'll curse a hundred shissar with these! But don't think this makes us friends, cretin.'

  • 9. Speak to Kilithyr 0/1 (Chelsith Reborn)

Task Window Says: Find Kilithyr and report the results of your chaos quest to him.

    You say, 'Hail, Kilithyr'

Kilithyr says 'If that doesn't get the attention of whoever's really in charge here, I don't know what will. Good work, _____. And don't [feel bad].'

You say, 'Who says I feel bad?'

Kilithyr says 'In a normal city, these acts would be despicable. Here, we might as well be lighting bricks on fire. These crystal-beings don't have souls, no matter how real they look.'

You've sown chaos among the crystal-created populace of this Chelsith clone. You hope Kilithyr and Grulid know what they're talking about, because this is brutal violence.

    Throw relic package to cultist

Once again, this quest NEEDS rework!!!!
The step says, throw relic package to cultist.
quest identifies, an occultist, as a related creature to quest. Tons of these above aqueducts.
ITask Window Says: Retreat back to the aqueducts and throw the shissar holy symbols you've found to a
cultist or a necromancer in the south or eastern tunnels, by clicking the item in your inventory. With any luck, they'll use them to
curse the shissar and demoralize them even further. Keep your distance though, the cultists are still dangerous.
It was to hard mentally for designer to say, you need, A WILLING SACRAFICE, and this mob IS NOT on list of related creatures!! REALLY .......

Collect holy relics from male shissar elders.
I killed every type/kind of mob in the area and got ZERO updates!!
Finally, I pulled Scheming Nobles to area and killed.
EVERY ONE I pulled to the residential area indicated on map and killed.
EVERY ONE, gave me a quest update.

This quest is so POORLY written it should be completely DELETED
As nice as possible I would say person writing quest was a total idiot!

Logging in and posting worthless info, GET A LIFE!

Did the whole quest with 4 and two mercs boxed. Had a problem with the first update (cursed weapons from cultist), they didnt update on other three, only on one. But after relogging they updated well, Shissar young and matriarchs updated on all chars at once with a single kill or shissar on fire. Long quest but no problem with a

    War 99 + Healer merc
    Dru 99 + Tank merc
    Enc 99
    Bst 98

Strangely, after being able to banish the mobs there was no single drop of some kind of Tier 3 trash loot. The Named itself are ridiculous overpowered, no chance to get a single done, even with about 2000+ AA on all chars.

    Good luck.

My wife, a mage, and I, an enchanter, are working on this together. We've gotten to the the stage of lighting the young on fire and both had the click. I got the twelve updates on every mob, mezzed or no, and it didn't matter who clicked. She is not getting any updates at all and I no longer have click. She's pulling and I'm just sitting doing nothing now. Any suggestions?

Same probelm here. Boxing 3 toons, only one got the updates. The other two can't get any update now. Most probably is a bug, and hope they fix it. I will not start the quest three times to get to that point.
