This quest begins with Sern Adolia in the cleric's guild of Paineel. He's located at 1140, 500, -37.

At the end of the "Cazic Thule Initiate" quest, you saw:

Sern Adolia says 'Well done, go now and continue your contemplations of fear. Keep up with your [duties] and you will soon be reaping the rewards granted by our Lord Cazic-Thule!!'

You say, 'What duties?'

Sern Adolia says 'The primary duty of this temple is to spread terror, fright, and dread as a symbol of your devotion to our lord Cazic Thule. We are currently researching a means of summoning avatars of Fright, Terror and Dread, the primary minions of the Faceless in his home plane. Will you [assist me in summoning] the avatar of Fright?'

You say, 'I will assist you in the summoning.'

Sern Adolia says 'In order to summon the avatar of Fright, I require some special components for the ritual. Fetch me the flesh of a zombie, the dust used in the process of mummification, [charred bone chips], and a [vial of Tunare's Breath].'

You say, 'What are charred bone chips?'

Sern Adolia says 'Some time ago a necromancer by the name of Obretl was sent to slay Rathmana Allin and his abomination of an adopted son, Ortallius. Obretl failed in his task and now haunts a small ruin in the desert of Ro cursed by Solusek to wallow in his failure in the form of a burning skeleton. Slay Obretl to free him from his pathetic existence and gather his charred remains.'

You say, 'Where do I find a vial of Tunare's Breath?'

Sern Adolia says 'Tunare's Breath is a life-giving potion created by the Fier'Dal Soldiers of Tunare. Seek out the druid Kalayia who is known to wander the Faydarks in search of reagents for potions. Procure from her a vial of Tunare's Breath. Shed her blood if need be.'

Turn in the following items:

- Zombie Skin (dropped by various zombies)

- Embalming Dust (dropped by mummies)

- Charred Bone Chips (from a skeleton named Obretl in South Ro -- spawns in the buried tower ruins between the dark elf vendor camp and the eastern dervish camp slightly north of the grass line)

- Vial of Tunares Breath (from a druid named Kalayia in Lesser Faydark, who is a very rare spawn)

From killing Kalayia:
Your faction standing with Soldiers of Tunare has been adjusted by -100.
Your faction standing with King Tearis Thex has been adjusted by -15.
Your faction standing with Faydarks Champions has been adjusted by -15.

Upon turning in those items, you receive a Mundane Helm. (Need this item uploaded to Lucy)

Sern Adolia says, 'I require all four reagents, anything less is useless. Incompetence will get you nowhere amongst the faithful of Cazic-Thule!'
Sern Adolia says, 'I require all four reagents, anything less is useless. Incompetence will get you nowhere amongst the faithful of Cazic-Thule!'
Sern Adolia says, 'I require all four reagents, anything less is useless. Incompetence will get you nowhere amongst the faithful of Cazic-Thule!'

Sern Adolia says, 'Excellent work, young apostle of Fright. Our chanters have successfully summoned the avatar. Hurry and hand him this mundane helm so that he may forge it into a valuable symbol of your devotion to the principles of Fear! Soon, the power of Fear will be infused into the symbol. No more will it carry the Call of the Dead.'

*avatar of fright shouts, 'Grrrraaaaarrrrrg! The stench of fear permeates the walls of this city! I will forge one item for the faithful of our Lord Cazic-Thule! Make haste! My time here is short!'

Turn around and go out the hall and through the door to find the Avatar of Fright. He will spawn after you do the turn in. Hand in the Mundane Helm before he despawns. He will give you the Fright Forged Helm.

*avatar of fright judges you amiably -- You could probably win this fight. (Lvl: 40) (loot locked)

The quest still works in 2017.

When you turn in the 4 items (zombie skin, embalming dust, charred bone chips, and vial of Tunares breath) you get a Mundane HelmUnderlined Text not a fright forged helm. Turn around and go out the hall and through the door to find the avatar of fright. He will spawn after you do the turn in. Hand in the mundane helm before he despawns. He will give you the fright forged helm.

Any chance the races allowed for this have changed? If it was Erudite only it would make sense. If other races can get it, it seems logical that all evil Clerics should be able to get it. I just started a Gnome Cleric and this would be a great item for him, once he gains enough levels.

Since it is HUM and ERU only, that means it is medium sized armor. Gnomes wear small armor, so they won't change the race tag for this item to include gnomes.
If you were me and I were you, would we still be friends?

My cleric has finished this quest, but I did it a couple years ago; however, this morning I was on my 56 warrior heading across Lesser Fay minding my own business when out of no where Kalayia decides that she doesn't like me in her turf.

So, I really had no choice but to stomp her.

She dropped the vial and I took it because I remembered the hours of having to camp her before.

This should be an MQable piece, so I will be working on Paineel faction now if someone wants to take it from me.
Broken Quest?
# May 17 2003 at 2:47 PM Rating: Decent
Anyone know if this quest is still active? All of the posts I've seen on it are almost a year old. I've been camping the druid for almost a month now and haven't seen her yet. I've been camping at different times, after the servers are reset, and for days (EQ) at a time with no luck. I've even had a tracker with me at times to no avail.

Nevermind the broken part, I finally got the druid! I dont know what made her spawn, but the servers hadn't been reset, so it wasnt that.( Maybe the gods heard my pleading and whineing and felt sorry for me!!) In any event , she does run fast , but you can follow her and keep up till she stops at variuos points on her track, then blast her. Dont try right away or she'll be gone before you can get the spell off!

Got my helm tonight!!!

Logged on my ranger alt who was in LF and there was Kalayia on track. Sent tell to friend (could barely type) and he logged on his bard while i logged on my cleric. 10 minutes later I had my Vial of Tunare's breath. Cleric was camped in Lf for about 3 weeks waiting.

Very nice helm - specially on Rallos Zek. BTW - the affect is right clickable.
Sern's Text

Does anyone have the exact text Sern uses when he gives the quest?
#Anonymous, Posted: Mar 20 2002 at 5:30 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I was only wandering that since this starts in Paineel if there was any way a HIE Cleric could do this. I will not ruin my faction-but it looks to be a neat helm. I have a Runed Circlet atm, should I just stick with that and go get something else? Feel free to send me an e-mail with answer-as I rarely check this place.

No, racial restrictions indicate Human and Erudite only.

Well, she spawned for me in the prev thursday's patch. It was daytime, and her track took her next to, rather than through the Nybright camp. In fact she was heading toward Steamfont, between the Sister's camp and the hill NW of it.

Obretl, well, 27 kills later and no bones. Guess he and Kalayia hang in the same twilight zone.

Finally, finally, finally...
After about 2 months of camping for this druid, and at least half a dozen attempts of the "log on right after a patch" method, I finally found and killed her. It was the morning after the Luclin patch; I had camped my druid at the sisters camp to help track her down. I logged on my druid, hit tracking...and there she was. Quickly switched to my cleric (camped in gfay) and started running him to the spot. Not a single other soul in the zone. I get to the camp and see her running right toward me. Rooted her, blasted her, looted her.

I have my helm now. You may all bow down before me =)

Where does the druid spawn and what level is she?

# Dec 06 2001 at 5:00 AM Rating: Decent
ok heres the deal with the quest, err kalayia she is deffinatally not on the unicorn spawn. because equestrail HT'ed me then I ran away from him right onto her path at the nylebright sisters. It was at night, but I doubt that had anything to do with it. my sugestion for kalayia is to pop on after a patch and wait for her kill everything u can(fyi I didnt kill orcs there hurt my DE faction) hope u all get this item it is a awesome piece of equipment even if it is just for the deadeye

Kayalia & Obretl
# Dec 02 2001 at 5:12 AM Rating: Decent
For Obretl I just basically did AC camp -- killed all undead in zone and SG's and AC. After 2 AC's spawns he was up in the little undead tower in the desert.

She took friggin forever. After I missed 1 spawn (heard about it later) I was pissed, but still camped her anyways. Basically I started off killing everything that comes near sisters camp.. then I killed only pixies that came near sisters camp... then finally I moved to that hill infront of sister camp and before the undead camp, surrounded by a ditch. I killed everything around that came near the hill and sisters camp. I also killed the Brownie Outcasts, Thistle Underbrush, and Whimsy Larktwitter. That EQ Night, after I moved myself to Hill, I saw 'a pixie' on track. Killed it, I think it's the PH. The night after, Kayalia was up and nuked the hell out of her. So basically within 2 hours of moving to the Hill I got the PH and Kayalia. Not sure if Brownie Outcasts were important, but I never killed em before I got the 'a pixie' to spawn (which I had never tracked before).

This quest is freaking long. If you wanna do it, go for it, tho you can just goto Skysrhine and loot a Guardian Helm which is more Wis and I think AC too. I'd also be like 20 levels higher if I hadn't done this quest =P.
about the spawn thing
# Nov 14 2001 at 6:56 PM Rating: Good
Sorry, reply thing isnt working for my comp... but the thing with spawn after patch, that may be the only way to get her. Like Rahotep in Nro... and Dunedigger .. they are very rare spawns and i have only seen them after the patch.
Last time quest was completed?
# Oct 26 2001 at 11:52 AM Rating: Default
Has anyone completed this quest, or can verify completion, since Lfay reverted back to normal? Has anyone even seen Kalayia in Lfay since it was overrun with undead? I've been camping for her for almost 2 weeks now, several hours at a time. I've seen just about all the rare spawning mobs in this zone multiple times, but no Kalayia (I'm using my druid to track her). I mean, I accept the idea of really rare spawns (*cough*ancient cyclops*cough*south ro*cough*), but a mob that isn't seen for several real life weeks??? Jeez.
RE: Last time quest was completed?
# Oct 27 2001 at 1:17 AM Rating: Decent
I got her to pop after the last patch on 8th of Oct. I logged on right after the patch and started to kill every thing that roamed between the ranger camp and the druid ruins. I had tried every thing else that was suggested below but none had worked.
However logging on right after the patch killing all that moved and within the hour Kalayia pops. Now if I could just get Obretl. So far this has been as long as the Aegis of life quest...

Walk through on Fright Forge Helm
# Apr 09 2001 at 9:03 AM Rating: Good

I must admit this quest was kinda of slow, but worth it in the long run... Im going to walk you through through the way i got this helm so bear with me.

1. Go to SRO and at sunken temple, kill Oretl, he has a pet and is green to 40th level, but if you are in your early 20s it might need help. He has place holders that spawn in temple every half hour kill them. Kill zombies and mummies inbetween time to get zombie skin and embalming dust...*Zombie Skin is the same as Zombie flesh as it states above you need zombie flesh...Zombie skin will work. It took me 8 hours to get the you might want to play the game gem.

2. Go to LFAY and sit at Sister Camp get yourself a map, if you have never been to Lfay, and be on look out for the annoying brownies. Make yourself a woodelf ranger *Tunare religion* Level the rnger to 9th or so. Log on ranger at nights and track her from Sister camp, or mm zone. Make sure ranger and cleric are both camped at sister camp. Once you see her on track log cleric on and wait til she comes back to sister foloow her, might want sow or very light for she does run just follow and nuke with wraith than the vial of tunare breath is yours. This camp can take weeks like it did for me, just be patient she will spawn. Phs are pixie prankster they range from 25minutes to 4 hours, but if you see one that goes to the fire and turns around kill it than when night comes, log on ranger i bet you anything she will be on track i did this 3 times and she was on track at night everytime. Good luck and hope she spawns quickly for you.

3. Ok quest is about done, so now you must get faction. You saying oh now, well before Warrens came out it was a pain in the ***. Go to Warrens and kill kobolds, for like 3 days... faction only has to be dubous, i got mine to apprensly so i could buy and sell for i have 2 other quest in Paineel. There is a necro at gate area go on hill and con him like once a day. Once you are at dubous ask an person in newby area to open gate to paineel, get a map of paineel.

4. Last turning in items
now turn all the items into Sern Adolia, he than will give you a helm, go to the left i think, and in a room is a black looking avatar or sprit enchanter hand him the helm, and in return he will give you the fright forge helm(you have to do this quick he does not stay long) and Sern Adolia is the middle person. And im am human and the helm is a maron color and is plate. Some one said helm is color of your gloves not true i werar black gloves, and the helmet is Marroon so that is not a true statement. I wish you all good luck and if you are one Xegony server fell free to give me a tell

RE: Walk through on Fright Forge Helm

Well I listened to Khanntus... sort of. I am also in Xegony but never saw the name on the posts until tonight. I checked online but Khanntus wasn't on, so I got advice from another cleric that had finished the quest (although probably not 3 times). During my camp, I saw 'a pixie prankster' at the fire in Sister bandits, but I'm not sure if it got there and turned around. I am sure that I've never seen a pixie prankster there before. I also killed a couple of orc centurions which seem to be semi-common spawn from fae drake ruins. After I killed the prankster, I strayed from what Khanntus had posted and listened to the other cleric who told me to wait near Undead Camp. I figured I could track from there w/ my druid. Apparently I couldn't... I didn't see her on track at all during the night. I think I messed up b/c the following EQ Night, Equestrielle the Corrupted was up.
Altho Equestrielle the Corrupted isn't super rare, I've read that he may be in the same cycle as Kalayia. I followed Equestrielle around a bit, and it seemed that he took the same path that Kalayia was supposed to take... I saw him pass right through 2 orc camps, then he lost me, but I did catch up to him as he crossed right infront of Sister Camp, and paused there for a couple of seconds. The other post also said that after he had killed Kalayia, Equestrielle the Corrupted Spawned soon after. I'm guessing that I might have let Kalayia despawn therefore causing Equestrielle to spawn.
Anyways, I'm pretty sure on what to do now... just gotta wait for that PH again =P.

BTW: Obretl spawned for me after AC spawned twice (2 hours for me).

I love this guys walk through, step one, step two, step three, step four! as easy as pie!
obrelt and kalayia are extreamly rare spawns
ive dont the paw of oppolla quest and the agis of life quest, i must say this quest is significantly harder than both of those,
hours? weeks? ive been doing this qeust for about a month now. good luck to all of you who are attempting, it, for kalayia for sure she will be up at 3 a.m. the eq evening after the server reset, thats when i finally caught her, and make sure shes rooted, she likes to die in the middle of trees, she runs but not faster than regular runing non-jboot, non-sow speed, about the same speed as a mob who starts to jet when hes at 1/3rd health, i cant even begin to describe what a pain in the *** camping her was,... obretl.. well people will tell you things, do a dance, kill this guy, kill that thing at this time, i dont beleive any of it, just camp that little tower in and he will pop eventually it took me 3 sessions of about 6 hours to get him, in that time the ac popped twice
