This group task is the fourth in a series of four (following this series is a raid task) and begins with Widdlethorpe Gemfinder in the Stoneroot Falls at approximate location -65, -1200.

You say, 'Hail, Widdlethorpe Gemfinder'

Widdlethorpe Gemfinder says 'After examining these samples you brought me... they tell me that the water down there is saline. Do you know [what that means]?'

You say, 'What does it mean?'

Widdlethorpe Gemfinder says 'It means that the water in his lair could be connected to a large body of water on Norrath. Every good gnome researcher has seen water like this before from the bottom of Lake Rathetear. If that is true the possibilities of the Korlach being used elsewhere... Holy Sprockets _____! We need to [prevent] what could be a massive destruction elsewhere.'

You say, 'How can we prevent it?'

Widdlethorpe Gemfinder says 'If someone has control of the Korlach's mind, they could mount an attack using him. The devastation that he has caused here would be seen elsewhere. We first need to figure out who or what evil is behind all of this and we need to end their control over the Korlach. Are you [prepared] to do this dangerous deed _____?'

You say, 'I am prepared'

You have been assigned the task 'Taking Control'.

Enter the lair of the Korlach and search for answers about who has been controlling the beast. You must find the answers and put a stop to them.

The direction to the entry to your instanced zone(s) have been marked on your compass.

Find an entrance to the Korlach's Lair 0/1 (Stoneroot Falls)

Search for what is Controlling the Korlach 0/1 (Lair of the Korlach)

Break the hold that the Drachnids have on the Korlach 0/1 (Lair of the Korlach)

Kill trash mobs en route to the named drachnid, Chancellor Prellius. Once you find Prellius, go and hail the red-con, scowling non-KOS witheran you encountered on the way to him (Vision of the witheran Beast).

Next, kill Chancellor Prellius, a straight melee mob who hits for ~2,700.

Once you get him to 80% Life, he will heal to 100%.

Then once you get him to 60% Life, he will heal to 100%.

Then once you get him to 40% Life, he will heal to 100%.

Then once you get him to 20% Life, he will heal to 100%.

Then once you get him to 0% Life, he will heal to 50%.

From there, you can finish him off.

Speak with Widdlethorpe and report your findings 0/1 (Stoneroot Falls)

You say, 'Hail, Widdlethorpe Gemfinder'

Your task 'Taking Control' has been updated.

Your discovery of who was behind the controlling of the Korlach is very important information. Speak with Widdlethope at once for further instructions!

Hailing him again leads into the Korlach raid.

Not sure if it was a bug or not, but a chest was spawned in the basilisk room during one of the runs for the rare drop.

couldn't open it, but was able to kill it to loot.

To get updates, swim up till you see the leviathan, don't kill it. Go into tunnel underhim and you will see the chancelor dracnid dude. The 1st update is on the right side of cave adjacent from him. then after you kill him you will get another update. The mask of vanishing can drop off any mob. if you kill the final mob it will kick you from instance after a minute. To start over, drop the task, dont do final hail

Be warned, as a high level character, if you kill the boss before stepping near his spawn point, you will bug the quest and have to exit and grab it again.

Strategy

The other posts seem to be accurate from our experience last night. A noticed strategy for the boss mob is to fight, evac, med, fight, rinse and repeat. The boss doesn't reset between engages. We got past the 80% and 60% heal, tank died, and I evaced. At that point 1/2 the group decided they were done, so we refilled the group and went back in. On the next engage he went to 40% before the heal, so even though we sat for 30 min or more refilling group, he did not reset.

Also, the 3k AE is a trap, goes off only when somebody swims into one of the large choral looking plants underwater.

I can confirm that if you don't hail whatever you're supposed to hail before killing the named drachnid, your mission bugs and you have to start over. ):

At the spider it's a walk-over spot trigger, not a hail.

1) Zone in
.) clear to the named drachnid, Chancellor Prellius, in the second-to-last room
2) Step over the spot near Chancellor Prellius to trigger "Search for what is Controlling the Korlach"
3) Kill Chancellor Prellius to "Break the hold"
.) you only have 1 or 2 minutes to loot whatever the named dropped before your group gets kicked out of the zone, out to Stoneroot underneath Widdlethorpe
4) Hail Widdlethorpe to complete the mission

I just completed this mission and figured I should add some new/updated info.

1)Mobs do NOT respawn. If you wipe or have to replace people then you can get everyone back together easily.

2)Korlach does not ago, but does give off a periodic 3K Zonewide AE.

3)When you reach Korlach you swim below him through a passage to get to the boss. After you do, stay as close to the water as possible. You can pull the other mobs in the room without agroing him. However once you get within a certain range the task updates and he will agro so be ready!

4)The boss is nasty, but you do not need to kill him all at once. If you get him down to 80 and he heals then you wipe, the next time you fight him he will not heal til 60. My group got him to heal at 80 then again at 60 then wiped. We went back with a better strategy and got him to heal at 40 and 20 before wiping. After that we went back and killed him after his 0% heal.

5)After the boss dies you will be ported out in approximately 1 minute, so if the loot is an upgrade to anyone they need to loot fast. You get ported out to Stoneroot very close to Widdlethorpe.

If it's the Korlach that's doing the AE, then it will only affect you if you're in the water. Although it could simply be traps going off. I would be pulling witherans to the group and get hit for 3k and stunned while the group was on land and not affected. I'm fairly sure these are traps, and in addition to damage and stun, there is a snare trap that does no damage.

In addition to getting ported out, Korlach will hit you with 1500 damage AE.

"You are crushed as the current slams against your body. You have taken 1500 points of damage."
"So and so is crushed as they are hit by a raging current."
oh yeah loot

p.s.
Rumor has it that you can kill the spider before hailing the named witherin, and that this bugs the mission. So hail the red con witherin first, it's kos and see-invis but never agroes. The rest of the mobs in the room however do agro.

At the end as we were debating killing the rest of the mobs or trianing to the back door zone out, the Korlach Leviathan awoke and booted us from the zone. Wheeee!

Get mission.
Zone in.
Kill to north, kill fast, repops are terribly fast.
Pass Korlach Leviathan, kos but non-agro.
See the spider, hail the red con witheran named, kill the spider.

The spider regenr to 100% every 20%, including at 0%, so be ready for a long-ish fight.

hits for 2k max maybe, 1k ave, but hits fast. Adds can be a problem, you could pull it into the water and fight underwater, but who likes doing that?

As expected, loot nowhere near equal to difficulty of this mission. If it's an upgrade, I doubt you can beat it.
