Dalorio is located in the same building as the bank, in the room around the
corner with the long table.

You say, 'Hail, Dalorio Blistbobble'

Dalorio Blistbobble says 'Zonkers! You scared me! Well it is good to meet you nonetheless young Lobracawen. Many young Guardians of the Vale often come to me for guidance. If there is something I can help you with in your training you make sure you let Dalorio know! In the meanwhile I will be working on my [trade]. '

You say, 'what trade?'

Dalorio Blistbobble says 'Well you see Lobracawen, I have been an aspiring blacksmith for quite sometime now. I have spent mostly all of my spare time since I was just a wee whipper snapper like yourself collecting different materials and trying to craft anything and everything of value in our town forge. Blacksmithing has always interested me and that interest is exactly what led to the creation of my [special recipes]. '

You say, 'what special recipes?'

Dalorio Blistbobble says 'Well its funny that you ask Lobracawen, I have just recently perfected my smithing recipes for Proudfoot Platemail. I would be willing to part with my recipe along with a mold for each piece of this fine platemail to any apprentice willing to [collect the necessary items] to craft it. '

You say, 'I will collect the necessary items'

Dalorio Blistbobble says 'You will eh Lobracawen? I am happy to hear of an upcoming Warrior of the Vale willing to collect the items necessary to craft their own armor. I must admit that you could really use some armor because it can get quite dangerous out in the thicket! Now back to business! To craft your own Proudfoot Platemail you will need my magical assembly kit that you will combine the items I ask you to gather for specific recipes. After you have done this you will use the pattern I give you along with the material you have fashioned and combine it in a forge to yield your armor piece. Now are you [ready to get started]? '

You say, 'I am ready to get started'

Dalorio Blistbobble says 'Very well Lobracawen, let's get to it! Here is my personal Platemail assembly kit. Inside this magical assembly kit you will combine certain items collected both from the thicket and our great city of Rivervale. It is my hope that while you progress in your training and through the different armor pieces that you will be able to learn of your surroundings both inside and outside the Vale. If you are ready to start fashioning your items simply tell me what armor piece you [want] to make. I have the recipe for Proudfoot Platemail [Helms], [Bracers], [Armguards], [Boots], [Greaves], [Gauntlets] and [Breastplates]. As a side note, make sure you craft your Breastplate last due to the difficulty of collecting the items for it.

You say, 'I want to make a breastplate'

Dalorio Blistbobble says 'So you feel the time has come and that you have the skills necessary to collect and fashion together all the items necessary for the Proudfoot Breastplate Material? Well I don't think you would ask if you were not ready, so please collect 5 Bricks of Crude Iron Ore, 1 Giant Fruit Bat Wing, 1 Giant Fruit Bat Rib Cage, 1 Giant Yellowjacket Thorax, 1 Large Yellowjacket Tarsi and 1 Deathfist Slashed Belt then combine them in your kit. Once you are finished, take this mold along with your material to a forge to create your Proudfoot Platemail Breastplate. Also return to me after you are finished with your Breastplate for I might have some [small assignments] for you. '

Drop Rates

I have been doing this to outfit my Warrior recently and the drop rates seem to have been improved.

It took me 14 drakeling kills to get 2 drops.
It took me 13 Giant Fruit Bat kills to get the Ribcage and Wing.
I have killed about 15 Giant Yellowjackets and still no Thorax.
I killed about 5 Large Yellowjackets to get the Tarsus.

My biggest complaint is the Crude Iron Ore. Weighing in at 8 this can add up quickly and completely over burden a character.

Man I must be the luckiest one around, after reading the posts on how hard you are find it. I'm a newbie I guess and didn't find the drop rates bad or things hard to find things only thing I have found hard to get is the Tarsi, strangely enough you say it is tarsus which I tried but no go with it told me it was the wrong item. My poor little lvl 9 almost 10 halfling warrior gonna try the tarsus again but the grizzly skins don't work, you need thick grizzly skins and I can't find a one wish someone can tell me what drops them.

BOO HOO i had 5 people that i met in game leave and quit the reason to dam hard for a newbi.
Stop and think we want new players and friends,
make the starting quest just a bit more easyer to get and then we just might keep new players in game.
Newbi armor quest
# Jan 30 2003 at 9:26 PM Rating: Decent
Well for allit's worth i have tested all the newbi armor quest and everyone of them is to hard.
the only one that i did complet was for a human warrior in qeynos and that took a group of 4 of my friend to help me complet it (5 weeks)so if we want to keep the real new players then we should all tell the fools that program the game to lighten up a bit and make it fun.
Let's face it a nice set of armor will keep us wanting to gain Level.
I say storm the programers and bombard thme with are views.

Hi there everyone, yes this quest is annoying, but for those of us that don't have twinkage for the character this is a pretty nice set of armor. I finally completed it, the last piece was the breastplate. Everything else I found quite readily. I am on the Tarew Marr server so I don't know if the spawn rates are different amongst the servers but me a and a cleric friend did the deed and I now have a full set. I still kill the drakelings anytime I see them for the simple fact that when people do ask for them they are available.

As Soon as I started my halfling warrior I wanted to do the armor quest for him, since I never played a race where this was there for them. I wrote and orangized all the items needed for each armor and went out in leveling first so I can hit the monsters that has want I need. At first I thought the only hard this about this would be the actual killing not the rare drops... I mean common rare drops for a newbie quest? Boy was I in for shock! So far of over 8 levels worth of killing, begging, buying and a but of high level support I manage to get 5 out of 8 armor pieces and I'm no longer getting exp for what I'm killing and yet I'm still at it. I feel like I'm stealing exp from newbies who needs the exp fromt he now lower level monsters. The Large Yellowjacket Tarsus, after 3 days of hunt, I only got ONCE! And I killed TONS of giant fruit bat in trying to get that rib cage and NADA! NOTHING! I had to go to the Commons to buy the grizzly skins because I never had a bear in the Missy Thicket drop one, that's insane! I also had to buy wolf meat.. yes WOLF MEAT! One of the most common drops just didn't drop and I was killing Shadow wolves and Black wolves way after they con green. As far as I know and seen NO ONE get the full quest armor and they usually give up to move out of the rivervale area to go level and they usually leave in the teens levels. This quest is ANNOYING, SAD, and way to titious for a newbie. These sort of quest would discourage new players, not help them. Everyone in the zone easily agreed with me that by the time I did get a full armor, I would be in a full suit of bronze or better and more. Also to add, someone offered over 50pp just for ONE thorn scale.. just ONE and no one in the whole zone could find one. I see myself as lucky to get 5 and seriously concidering about moving on - I need to level.. not chase around monster on a overdue and slow quest.
Breastplate

Personally, my level 12 warrior is STILL looking for the giant fruitbat ribcage... VERY FRUSTRATING I have been killing the giant fruitbats since level 9. Lots of other folks are also looking for the same item...The number of players greatly exceeds the spawn rate of the giant fruitbats and the drop must be exceedingly rare. I have all the other armor pieces except the breastplate. My vote is also in the boo hiss category 8(

After killing 251 Giant Fruit Bats I finaly got one to drop the Ribcage. I've talked to a senior GM. He told me he was going to talk to the powers above and see if they can make it drop a little more often.

I hope this helps

Large Yellowjacket
# May 20 2002 at 9:16 PM Rating: Default
THE large yellow jacket spawns in the following place every two hours: out of Rivervale (coming into the thicket), hang a right. When you get near the zone wall, hang a right. Just before you reach the wall the halflings built, there is a hill... It spawns there, on the side of the hill facing the wall (in middle: not at top, not at bottom). It spawns on the part of the hill from which you can see the opening in the wall the halflings built. Also, I should say that when the guy who gives the quest says "tarsi", he means "tarsus". It is not plural, still need only 1, just a mess up on VI's part.
Rare Drops

I came across the Giant Ribcage while trying to get the Large Fruitbats to spawn. killed a Giant Fruit Bat and poof there it was. I have all i need for the breastplate, but have spent over 28 hours killing nothing but Giant YJs (except agro) and have yet to come across one, although after i logged, a friend helping me came across 2 of them =( Tie drop rate for the ribcage and thorax are seriously tooo rare
Rib Cage
# Apr 27 2002 at 9:48 AM Rating: Default
Yes, it acctually exists!
I had to kill exactly 130 giant fruit bats to get it, but in the end, it got weird. 3 giant fruit bats spawned at once. The first dropped the wing, the second dropped the fur (i know its not the right one, but anyway) and at this point i bet my brother $50 that the next bat would drop the ribcage- just to keep up with the patterm. It did, and man was i happy.......now if only i could find that elusive large yellowjacket...

Ultra Rare Drop
# Apr 14 2002 at 10:34 PM Rating: Decent
I just spent the past 4 hours with 3 of my guildmates killing nothing but bats... killed enough for us to total 37 STACKS of batwings... And I counted 94 Giant Fruit Bats (drops the ribcage needed) that i killed personaly, Not ONE ribcage... that to me is simply to rare for any drop, let alone a newbie drop... come on VI think about what your doing...
RE: Ultra Rare Drop
# Jun 09 2002 at 1:44 PM Rating: Default
Plus you have at least 2 or 3 other armor quests that need the Rib for their brestplate/Tunic
ex. Ranger needs it for the Thorn Mail Tunic.

When you have 40 Newbie Halflings runnung around tring to get the same thing you should have a higher drop rate. :)
Can you MQ?

i think it would be worth while to do if you can MQ these quest. If anyone know whether you can or not please say so. Thank you
RE: Can you MQ?

Since you need to combine all the things in one kit, I don't see how Multi-Questing is possible. The Belt and the Ore is droppable, but the rest isn't.
Rethink needed
# Apr 13 2002 at 12:31 AM Rating: Decent
If the drop information given in prior posts is even close to true, there's absolutely NO WAY a halfling low enough level to hunt in Misty Thicket will equip himself with this new armor.

By the time he's killed enough stuff to gather up the components, he'll have levelled several times and all the mobs will be green. And that's assuming he's killing only the quest mobs, which is highly unrealistic.

So only those who hang out and reap green mobs, to the discomfiture of any other people of appropriate level for Misty Thicket (who may ALSO be competing for the same drops), will have this armor.

And you can't justify by saying the questor should be grouped, thereby having five or six times as many kills per level in which to gather components. Isn't everyone in the group going to want the new armor? No way the whole group is gathering items to equip one guy. You have to multiply the number of kills required by the size of the group. In fact there's LESS kills per group member per level, because of bonus experience when grouped.

Besides, under level 10, with server populations maturing, it's uncommon any more to find people to group with. Like it or not, most people will be soloing at these levels.

So, Verant needs to rethink drop rates on these new lowbie armor quests. Only farmers will get the armor as it stands.

The drop rate needs to be high enough that a young warrior will get the items he needs in the normal course of levelling in Misty Thicket. Otherwise these quests entice people to farm green mobs, and penalize those young halflings who elect to move on to more appropriate hunting areas without completing the quests.

Am I wrong? I'd love to hear from someone who actually got a set of this armor for themselves, while levelling in Misty. All I see is people who got a set for their alt, or their friend....or gave up after hundreds of kills, more than enough to level someone out of Misty's level range.

Well here is how it went for me: I made a Halfling warrior and promised myself not to twink or help IN THE LEAST (man that part has been hard.. lol) Anyway, right off the bat at lvl 1 I went and talked to the quest guy... Wrote down every part I was gonna need in checklist fasion, then hit the thicket... Died ALOT, but soon had sever parts for diferent pieces, but nothing to complete a recipe. At lvl 6 I finally had enough to make my leggins, so I combined the parts got my leggins material and the mold then hit the forge... Well it was not actually the forge it was the kiln... (hey, we all make mistakes from time to time) And I got a message saying "cannot combine these parts in this container" then boom... the materal & mold are gone... lost... I was hurt... oh well back to the thicket to try again... kept this up until I had Boot & leggins at lvl 7, 2 bracers at 8, gaunts & greaves at 9, and sword at 10. Now just the helm and BP, and the mobs needed for each part are still Dark Blue to me, so I warrent that a person can get a whole set (rare drops aside) at the proper lvl... I believe I will have all parts by lvl 12 - 13 and that is still the target lvl for parts of misty =)
RE: Rethink needed
# Apr 13 2002 at 7:50 AM Rating: Default
It's a falsehood to say that everyone grouped with you would be after the same armour. I'm yet to group with five warriors.

But in general, I agree with your sentiments.
RE: Rethink needed
# Apr 15 2002 at 10:58 AM Rating: Decent
Many of the seperate classes still need the same part... just not the complete exact same recipe =) Me an a Pally are both after the same drop same as me another ranger... many of the drops are common accross the class quests.

Spawning Mobs
# Apr 11 2002 at 10:44 PM Rating: Decent
Spawning the new mobs is actually pretty easy. Near the crossroad before the wall there will spawn-

Large Yellowjacket
Thorn Drakelings
A Large Misty Rat
Large Wood Spiders

Kill one, another will spawn. Keep killing. Kill some more. The non ruined scales are what I'm finding the hardest to acquire....
RE: Spawning Mobs
# Jun 14 2002 at 2:48 PM Rating: Default
yea the regular thorn drakeling scales are IMPOSSIBLE!!!! I spent 2 weeks killing the lil green guys using tracking on my ranger to help, a total of around 200 or 250 thorn drakelings, and not a single regular scale! The drop on regular thorn drakeling scales is lower than the drop of giant fruitbat ribcages, Verant needs to rethink what they are doing.

Got all the parts for the quest except the rib cage off the new bats. Was doing the quest with my 56 warrior cuz i wanted to see what the armor looked like. I destroyed those giant fruit bats for 3 hours estimate i killed about a hundred of em. Not a one had the rib cage so i destroyed all the rest of the stuff and went to bed.

When is Sony/Verant/Whoever going to learn that making items super rare drops does not make the game any FUN. I had a great time looking for all the parts for my halfling warrior's full suit until I finally got down to the parts that are uncommon/rare drops, particularly for the breastplate.

The Large Yellowjacket Tarsus (he asks for Tarsi, but he wants a Tarsus) is a rare drop off an uncommon spawn.

The Giant Yellowjacket and the Giant Fruit Bat are more common spawns, barely, but the items needed from them (Giant Yellowjacket Thorax & Giant Fruit Bat Rib Cage) are both stupidly rare drops.

I've finally gotten the Thorax, so now all I need is the Tarsus and the Rib Cage and my halfling will be a completely gold/bronze/whatever warrior.

The Large Yellowjacket spawns in the newbie half of Misty Thicket. If you don't have tracking (which most warriors that I know of DON'T), you're going to have a fun time finding them. Thorn Drakelings also spawn in this half and at least the scales off them are tradable unlike all the rest of the new item drops.

The Giant Yellowjacket and the Giant Fruit Bats spawn in the area outside the wall. My general tactic to get them to spawn has been to kill everything that moves, although I suspect that only the new mobs need to be killed for more new mobs to spawn.

All in all, if you don't have a tracker, for a fair few of the items you'll be looking a VERY long time. I luckily, made abuse... ah I mean use of my 47 ranger.
RE: BAH!
# Aug 23 2002 at 3:23 PM Rating: Decent
I had my Level 29 Druid Halfling farm most of my items for me. I didn't have to buy my thorn drakelings scales. Mabye rare drop frequency for *duh* the rare drops depend on the server. I am on Povar and yes, the Giant Fruit Bat Rib Cage was a pain in te **** LOL; but the only thing I lack now is the Giant Yellowjacket Thorax now and I am level 12 atm.

I think the thing Verant did was they catered these quests to range from levels 5 - 13, because obviously you can't fight the NPC's required until about level 5. As you progress through the armor peices, you also progress in level. So I think right around level 13-15, the more uncommon drops might start dropping.

Dunno for sure, just a thought

A few months ago I was going to "kill off" my main character because I had started a new one and hadn't played my main in over 6 months, so I went to the bizarre and sold all my gear then took all my pp and went to Rivervale and made a bunch of newbie "hobbit's" very happy.

For some reason about 2 weeks ago, I decided I wanted to play my "old" main again (I hadn't deleted him yet). I figured the best and easiest way to get him some armor and a weapon would be to do the newbie armor quests until I could save enough pp to re-equip him.

I did what most of you did and talked to the guy giving the quest, wrote everything down, and hit the Thicket. I figured I'd have him fully equipped in a matter of hours or worst case a couple of days. Within a few hours I had boots and bracers. It took me a bit longer on the greaves, because of the Thick Grizzly pelts (which I ended up going to WC to get). I ended up going to WC for the spider silk for the gauntlets because there was a low-level warrior searching for hte same thing and felt it was just fair not to take all him mobs.

Then I ran into problems. I have spent the last 6 days, playing no less than 6 or 7 hours at a time trying to find 2 Large yellowjacket tarsus (one for the helm and one for the breastplate). I was told a while back that if you killed everything in the newbie area (and keep killing everything)that the large yellowjackets and drakelings would spawn. This proved to be true, but that didn't change the drop rate. I killed approximately 200 yellowjackets before I finally got a tarsus to complete my helm. Luckily the next jacket I killed dropped another one so I moved on to the Giant Fruit bats.

I agree that the drop rate on these items is WAY to infrequent for newbie quests. It's much easier (at least as I remember) to complete the Crafted armor quests than these new newbie armor quests.

My character is a level 32 and is having a really hard time getting the ribcage and the thorax to drop. Verant definitely need to re-think these things. How many newbies are going to have the patience to actually complete them when everything in the zone becomes green?

Just my 2pp

/agreed, about the crafted stuff being easier anyhow. my main on drinal, got alot of his crafted stuff at no more than 2-3 hrs per armour peice, and that was doing all of ti at the appropriate lvl with small groups. now that i made a new li'l halfling war on quellious to mess around with, i have been farming like hell, (also still in the appropriate lvl ranges) and have yet to have any luck with completinng any of these quests after 2 days of camping the thicket. 8(
