We have a report as of September 12, 2013, that this quest may be broken due to a dialogue loop, making it impossible to progress.

This is the quest method of obtaining Ghoulbane. It is also a drop, which is described in the Ghoulbane quest.

Ryshon Hunsti is located in West Karana, on the shore in the southeast corner.

Hail Ryshon Hunsti

Ryshon Hunsti says, 'Hello _____. What brings you to the Karanas? Do you seek [enlightenment]?

You say, 'I seek enlightenment'

Ryshon Hunsti says, 'Ahh, i could see by the look in your eyes that you are looking for something more than just enlightenment. Perhaps you are looking for a [sword] crafted by a noble man.

You say, 'What sword?'

Ryshon Hunsti says, 'It is not just a sword friend. It is much more than that. This sword carries with it special [power], something unlike anything else within this realm.'

You say, 'What power?'

Ryshon Hunsti says, 'It is an instrument fashioned together by noble man. It is said to be blessed by the gods themselves. Only a man who comes from nobility may wield it. Do you seek the [sword of nobility]?'

You say, 'I seek the sword of nobility'

Ryshon Hunsti says, 'I see, then take this note to Kanthuk Ogrebane. I've been told he can be found fishing not far from the dwarven city.'

He gives you Note to Kanthuk.

Travel to Butcherblock Mountains to the boat docks. Once zoned in to Butcherblock; follow the path to the city and follow the path to the dock but on the north side. The same side you will find Walnan and Grindbar. Looking at your map; he is in between them. If you follow the wall down to the water and then follow the water line you should run into him. There is a big boat and he is standing right on the shore/water line at /loc +2202, +2996

You say, 'Hail, Kanthuk Ogrebane'

Kanthuk Ogrebane says, 'Hello'

Hand Kanthuk the note and get some experience.

Kanthuk Ogrebane says, 'Ahh, I see you have spoke to Ryshon. You seem tired from your long journey. Sit with me as I tell you a tale. A tale about a true friend of mine, a great man known as [Amstaf Trunolis].'

You say, ' Who is Amstaf Trunolis?'

Kanthuk ogrebane says, 'Amstaf Trunolis was a good man. I've followed into [battle] many times. We've seen many of our friends die by the sword of others.'

You say, 'What battle?'

Kanthuk Ogrebane laughes, 'I remember the first time we charged into battle. I was so scared. My hands wouldn't stop trembling. Amstaf pulled me off to the side before the initial attack began. He held my hands within his. I saw his hands begin to glow and felt his energy pass into me. I felt [courage].

You say, 'What courage?'

Kanthuk Ogrebane says, 'I'll never forget what he did for me that day. He gave me the courage to continue. No one's ever done anything like that for me. I vowed that day that I'd follow him into any battle. I'd be there alongside him, no matter what. As time went on we came across an elven woman named [Ambreen].

You say, 'Who is Ambreen?'

Kanthuk Ogrebane says, 'Ambreen was younger than he and I. She knew of the powers of nature. She was able to control the rain which fell from the heavens and would call upon the spirits to aide her. It was obvious that Amstaf took a liking to Ambreen. She ended up coming with is on out crusades. The last I saw of Ambreen was when we went to the snow covered lands of Everfrost. We were wander the lands when a freak [snowstorm] hit us. We were seperated from one another for quite some time.'

You say, 'What snowstorm?'

Kanthuk Ogrebane says, 'I don't know where it came from, but it was so sudden that it caught us all off guard. The snow quickly became unbearable. I tried to move to higher ground, but was unable to. I was stuck within the snowy confines. I didn't know what to do [next].'

You say, 'What happened next?'

Kanthuk Ogrebane says, 'As I laid there my body began to slowly freeze. I knew death was near and accepted the inevitable. Suddenly I felt something clutching at my cloak. I was being dragged upwards out of the snow. A hand pressed against my chest and began to glow. I felt energy pass into my body. Do you know [how] he had saved me?'

You say, 'How did he save you?'

Kanthuk Ogrebane says, 'He saved my life by laying his hands upon my body. A few moments later we found Ambreen lying in the snow, her body frozen by the harsh surroundings. We lifted her up off the ground and began to look for [shelter].'

You say, 'What shelter?'

Kanthuk Ogrebane says, 'We ended up taking refuge within a deserted cabin not to far from our location. We knew that we didn't have much time left to bring life back into her body. However, the storm didn't pass through and we knew we couldn't venture to far without the fear of freezing. I warmed the cabin and rested for some time thinking about what we were going to do. It wasn't long before my exhaustion took over. I fell into a deep [slumber] that night.'

You say, 'What slumber?'

Kanthuk Ogrebane says, 'That night I dreamt of many things. Random thoughts kept swirling around my mind. I kept seeing the image of a cloaked being and of Amstaf circled around a fire. I saw Ambreen's body convulsing above the fire as if life was being brought back to it. I don't know what happened that night. I don't even know if what i dreamt was real, but before I awoke I saw a [strange image].'

You say, 'What strange image?'

Kanthuk Ogrebane says, 'I saw Amstaf lower his head and walked away in silence. He was surronded by two beings carrying a torch. I don't know what it meant, but I swear it was so real. When I awoke both Amstaf and Ambreen were gone. Please find Llara and give this pendant to her. This pendant belonged to Amstaf. She too had a vision that night that may clear things up. If she asks where you got it from, mention my name.'

You receive a Pendant.

Next you need to find Llara. She is standing on a rock in Dagnor's Cauldron, just outside of the Estate of Unrest.

Llara says 'Oh my! This belongs to Amstaf. Where did you get it?

You say, 'Kanthuk gave it to me'

Llara says 'I take it you're here to find out more about [Amstaf].'

You say, 'Who was Amstaf?'

Llara says 'I've known Amstaf since he was a child. We grew up in the same city together. Ever since I've known him there's always been something [unusual] about him.'

You say, 'What was unusual?'

Llara says 'When we were growing up we used to venture outside the city gates. Some times we would encounter a wandering ghoul or an undead spirit of some sort. He was always able to quickly dismiss the undead being with very little effort. I [learned] many things growing up with Amstaf.'

You say, 'What did you learn?'

Llara says 'Amstaf told me many things when we were younger. Once Amstaf told me that life isn't about how you get there, it's about where you end up. I miss my dear friend. Its been a long time since I've seen him. The night of the snowstorm I dreamt about him. I remember seeing Amstaf's face. I saw something I've never [seen] before.'

You say, 'What did you see?'

Llara says 'I saw desperation. I spoke to many people who knew Amstaf trying to find out if anyone heard anything about that night. No one knew anything about it. When I had reached the dwarven hunting grounds I ran into a woman named Walnan. She kept rambling on and on about the power of the Orb and something about Magi`kot. I didn't understand what she was saying. She didn't know anything about my situation either, but she did tell me that there were others that may be able to help me. She told me that I should find [Ruathey].'

You say, 'Who is Ruathey?'

Llara says 'Ruathey is known for her ability to look into people's souls and find truth. Though I wasn't able to find Amstaf, I was able to recover his sword. I believe that by having his sword I am closer to finding him. Take this note to Ruathey and tell her that I sent you.

You can find Ruathey in Lavastorm Mountains, near the Nektulos Forest zoneline.

You say, 'Hail Ruathey'

Ruathey says 'Hello Chork .'

Ruathey says 'I see that you've spoken to Llara. She too came to me looking for Amstaf. Though she wasn't able to find her friend, she was able to recover his [sword].

You say, 'What sword?'

Ruathey says 'I've heard stories about a holy sword. There are many rumored to be hidden all throughout the world, yet only a few have actually been found. Amstaf had one of these swords. It is known for its ability to dismiss the undead. Perhaps by having this sword it'll bring you closer to finding your friend. Gather a ghoul's heart, Amstaf's Scroll, the Blade of Nobility, a noblemans hilt and place them in this [bag].'

You say, 'What bag?'

Ruathey says 'Take this bag and gather the items I've mentioned. I've been told that the Ghoul's Heart can be found in the estate of the undead, while the scroll can be found in the Keep not far from the Karanas. One of the others are rumored to be found near the dwarven city among the goblins. While the last should be found in the caverns of Najena.

For those of you who haven't figured it out, you will need to go to Butcherblock, HighKeep, Unrest, and Najena.

Your target is Crazed Ghouls in Unrest, Crazed Goblins in HighKeep and skeletons in Najena (named "a skeleton").

All the mobs that need to be killed are 25 to up to 35, and the items appear to be uncommon drops.

You combine these 4 items in the bag Ruathey gave you and You have fashioned the items together to create something new!

You are holding a Ghoulbane.

Gb Working...??

I was grouped with a fellow Pally this afternoon, and complained about the broken quest as usual, when he says he just had it work a few days ago. Says Kanthuk is still !, but it all worked and he got his 4th Gb now....I haven't actually gotten back on the road to see if this is true, but wanted to inform those who have been waiting for word of a fix...

Well I have had the 4 pieces to this quest for a while, and finally after 3 days of waiting I found Ryshon in WK. BUT the NPC in BB named Kanthuk still has a ! in front of his name. I tried for 4 hours to find a GM on the game - Nothing. I have sent a petition - Nothing. I am forming the opinion of the VALUE of the customers to Veriant - Nothing. Has ANYONE found out ANYTHING about when this bug will be fixed?

OK, I have hunted Najena Dungeon for a very long time. The reason is great loot and awesome xp even at my level of 35. I have gained 6 Levels here -Solo- and have Ghoulbane (did the quest a while back before the bug on Kanthunk dude). I do what I call the 'Cycle'<it evolved to this because at my lower levels only could do a couple of the skellies at a time> hunting the four 'a skeleton' spawns ('First' skelly is in his own jail cell near the first elementals you come across, the next 3 skellies are pretty much in line; 'Second' skelly which is below you will aggro a soon as you walk onto the 'ramp' towards the direction to where Najena and the Widow mistress are, 'Third' skelly is standing behind the steamy pool of water which is the access to Najena [dive into the water to get to her and make sure you have the golden cresent key which comes from Drelzna] but do not go up the ramp he faces, there is where <maybe> Widow mistress and her pet black widow spiders are waiting, and the 'Fourth' skelly who is in a room off to the left of the 'Third' skelly and will agro the moment you see it. These skellies have a large aggro range and will pick a fight with anybody, no matter their level. These guys drop upwards to 5 plat in change and some ringmail armor(mostly gloves and wrist bands), awesome xp and THIS IS MY OBSERVATION AND EXPERIENCE OF 6 LEVELS of hunting - The 'Second' and 'Third' skellies drop the nobleman's hilt. The 'First' and 'Fourth' skellies have yet to drop the hilt so far (I have in reserve a hilt for my next GB after I do the FA and FD epic quests and all. I have seen TONS of hilts rot, sad). The rest of the cycle <what I do now>: first, I get either 'a guard officer' or 'Officer Grush, depends on the random spawn. Grush is a shaman and kinda tough. Second, the Guard Captain, he is kinda tough too. Third, Bonecraker, he aint so bad like the rest of the skellies, Ghoulbane eats them up nicely. Fourth thru Seventh, the skellies, these guys can be mean. A word of caution, all these mobs hit upwards to dbl 60 damage the skeletons are even worse when they have a bronze dagger, they hit A LOT faster and you will not get a spell off, well barely. All these mobs I have mentioned give me experience still (which will change once I hit 36, Grush and Ogre Guard Captain will only give me xp then). There is more to this but I didnt want to bore anyone writing this novel. Lower level Paladins can do this with help, higher level guys can do this similar to what I have already typed. There are other reasons I am here, mainly, the temper drops from the elementals for the cultral armor crafting. Good luck and hope this helps some of you out there!

-Best wishes, Clangdin Spiritreaver, 35th seasoned, Tribunal.

The mob you're looking for is named "A Skeleton". They were dark blue when I was 34. Had to kill about 5 to get the hilt.

# Dec 27 2001 at 9:30 AM Rating: Decent
That would be the Skeleton that aggros you from below at the platform before the stairs past the tangler room and first mages on the way toward Najena herself. There always seems to be a guard standing there. Hmm, got it on the first and fifth kill, if memory servers.

However on The Rathe, the !NPC prevents you from delivering the note also. And yes, killing the imposter a few times does NOT help. But it feels good.

Ryshon Huntsi
# Dec 12 2001 at 8:07 PM Rating: Default
On Thursday, the 19th day of June, of the year 3227 on Tarew Marr I sat with a ranger with a tracking skill of 50+ all day at the undead ruins just near the rumored coordinates of Ryshon. He was not seen. He is either a random spawn, a triggered spawn, or spawns only on certain days at certain times or whatever. One way or the other, he does not spawn at the given coordinates every day. If someone knows what you need to do to make him spawn I would sure like to know.
RE: Ryshon Huntsi
# Dec 26 2001 at 9:23 AM Rating: Decent
Last week I camped Ryshon twice for at least 8 EQ days at the reported coordinates on Morrell Thule. Part of the time I had a ranger helping me with tracking. Ryshon never spawned.

I have have done this quest before and never had a problem finding Ryshon. I wanted to get Ghoulbane as a gift for a friend and it has always been an easy and quick quest.

Does anyone know whether this quest has been nerfed by Verant, is simply broken or have they made Ryshon Huntsi a real slow spawn

Dunno if this will help or if it is just sheer coincendence but I waited and waited for Ryshon all darn day with no luck (found him last night no problem but like a dummy gave the note to the broken quest guy) I got bored and went and killed a ghoul. As soon as the ghoul dropped Ryshon popped up on my track...

Course now I am stuck at the ! guy and every time I ask a gm or guide I get the same "well the ! means his mind is elsewhere" or "it appears he isn't feeling right and you won't be able to compltet what you are doing" I wish they would just say its broken, or removed, or whatever. But if it were removed I would think we wouldn't be able to even start it with Ryshon...
Update on quest
# Dec 12 2001 at 9:20 AM Rating: Decent
As of 12-DEC, here's some info for Drinal:
1. Ryshon is not up all the time, but that part is not broken. We found him at 5pm, he showed up on low-level tracking (skill lvl 40) from the undead ruins in WK, very near the reported coordinates.
2. Scroll of Amstaf dropped off a generic goblin (just "a goblin") that popped after a goblin thief in the little hallway with the ledge that's just past the warrior room going down in the HK basement.
3. Hilt of nobleman dropped off the 'a skeleton' in Najena, not the entryway 'large' or 'giant' skellies. 25-AUG post on Ghoulbane quest has the right info on getting this, don't bother with the other types of skellies.
4. Kanthuk Ogrebane is still broken on Drinal, replaced with weird-looking !Kanthuk Ogrebane.
Cons indifferent to bard, druid, and pally, even after bard faction song. Won't respond to any hails, and takes the letter without activating the next part of the quest.
5. Ghoulbane prices on Drinal are now down into the 300 - 350pp range for those who are sick of this quest being broken but don't want to hose their live froglok faction.
If Verant's going to nerf a quest, the least they could do is have the first guy up all the time with a "Oh, I used to tell people how to get Ghoulbane but I don't any more" message.

<sigh> Petitioned on !Kanthuk Ogrebane last night on Drinal and was told that an NPC with a '!' in front of his name has been 'permakilled.' When I asked if that meant that the GB quest had been totally removed, the Guide answered 'That is not known at this time.' Bloody Guides. Typical Verant to punish people who want to do something other than bash mobs for cash. ***** it, I'm just buying my GB. You win, Verant.
RE: Update on quest
# Dec 13 2001 at 12:22 PM Rating: Default
Personally, I think the Guide you were talking to has no idea what he's talking about in regard to the ! in front of the characters name. During the Halloween GM events in EK on Xev, a number of NPC's were clustered around with the name !Dawnbane Serpent. They looked like the standard human NPC with no equipment and were all clustered in the same spot facing each other. Within a few days, a new MOB appeared in EK called, you guessed it, Dawnbane Serpents. Looks to me like the ! is used for any MOB or NPC that is not fully ready for interaction with PC's and is a placeholder till they are fully functional.

I found Ryshon Hunsti along the water just southeast of the Wizard spires. I then found Kanthuk Ogrebane along the water near Kaladim, but you must swim around the wall to the right and then continue up the shoreline to find him.

Sadly, I was not good enough faction and he kept the note, but I hope you can find him.

On Karana, I get to the point where I am talking to Kanthuk Ogrebane and I say 'Who is amstaf trunolis' and nothing happens.

I am a level 13 Dwarven Paladin. Am I too low, missing faction or something? I gave him the note and got the exp but he won't respond to me after his first statement.

What a waste of an afternoon riding the boat and running accross Antonica!
