A rocky terrain taking its name from the lake it surrounds, this area is home to wandering undead, snakes, orcs, and goblins. Watch your step !

At the bottom of Dagnor's Cauldron is Kedge Keep, an underwater dungeon entered from the floor of the lake. And along the southern mountain boundary is a tunnel leading to the undead-ridden manor, Unrest.

so while i was spending an unhealthy amount of time swimming laps in this zone doing the hunter achievement, i discovered that almost all the mobs in this zone are PH for each other... so by ignoring one type of mob (i.e. snakes) and killing all the other types you can fill this zone with almost exclusively one type of monster (i.e. snakes) over the course of about two hours... no real use, just kinda fun!...

Hi.
For hunting purposes i tried to check which roamers were in the cycles. I killed all rats first until no one appeared on track. Then undead skels and poping rats, then serpents, undead skels and rats until there was only goblins in the zone.
I then killed the 4 orcs scouts at the east camp of the zone, and the 4 goblins at south-west goblin camp.
Then i killed all goblins from the oldest in zone and check what was poping.
Everything poping after are roamers, but i am unable to know which are the PHs for named. Means about 60 mobs roaming in the whole zone, with a repop time of about 1 minute.

They are both merchants that sell nothing, and they stand on top of the mountain in the middle of the island, on both sides of Conium Darkblade. They do not respond to Hails, and I have no idea what they are for. A screenshot of the three of them has been uploaded to the Screenshots tab for this zone.

Just wanted to drop a note for low levels since there is not much posted here. I did Dagnor's at 17 with a dwarf beserker completely untwinked. All I had is newbie armor, newbie axe and trumpie's hammer. There is not much money here but it is fun hunting. Blue MOBs are undertow skels, goblin mariners and the odd serpent. White are Goblin shaman. Yellow are Goblin Bosun and whatch for red Tidal Lords and Dwight something. Mobs roam everywhere and only pause at the stops for about 20 secs. Run around the lake to familiarize landmarks, weird trees for Blutcherblock exit (too long), orc camp and goblin camp. Between the last two is Unrest and the zone out. Hunt between those camps for saftey. Take boat to sell stuff to dwarf on top of mountain at the island. Hunting island is fairly safe too as the escape boat can get you back to unrest zone as the mobs have to walk the bottom of the lake. If you know the end of the world is coming so you have to get your toon to 70 ASAP don't bother but if you like the fun hunt, Dagnor's is OK.

im not flaming, I have horrific grammar and spelling. it was just a difficult read. Run on sentances, that, for the most part i left alone. but DEAR god people! re-reading it I dont think English is the native language here, also looking it over again I think the whole thing should be posted under Unrest. lol. Its a named Dwarf, not a gnome.

This zone is ok i guess, but then right next to it is much better its called the "Estate of unrest", and its awesome xp, and its fun if you have have either a cleric or necro cause its all undead have fun and the guy on like the 3rd floor its a named Dwarf. And when you reach the basement watch out, its strong down there, and full of hidden doors that you cant see, so walk along the walls and make sure have levitate or you are in touble. If you have such a life, then why are you having a fit over someone who is, for the most part, being amusing and polite? The way I see it, your the one who's being a jerk here, not the other way around.
And fyi, only immature kids/people and high schooler's call names. That's no way to get a point across. If you want to be treated with respect, then like an adult, and stop resorting to childish antics.

This sounds like it's trying to describe the entrance to Kedge Keep. The zone entrance is at -1000 -1000 at the bottom of the Dagnors Cauldron lake. There are some fallen pillars in front of the tunnel to the zone line.

Kedge is a challenging dungeon. It is completely underwater, so breathing devices and spells are a must. The easiest mobs are the Lancer Swordfish: low thirties, there are usually five of them just inside the entrance, very aggro, very social, very hard hitting for their level, and they never flee, they fight till they die.

I'm afraid the material you found was written by someone who thought it would be funny to sucker people into wandering into Kedge unprepared. If some intrepid low-20s adventurers try that, just a few feet inside the zone they'll be in a nasty fight with five angry swordfish slicing them up. It won't take long. They'll then discover that they have a corpse recovery problem that they probably will not be able to solve without help from higher level players. Not a very pretty joke, after all.

Kedge Keep is not a zone where a lot of people go, but it is hardly a secret. Phreekitty's excellent detailed guide is here. Allakhazam's start page for Kedge Keep is here.

Check out the details, and in your mid 30s get a group together and discover some of the fastest experience and most interesting loot in Everquest. But: be prepared. It's a tough zone.

perhaps this has already been asked, but couldnt anyone with levitate kite anything into the water, and easily destroy it? im thinking druids here, but im sure it would work for other ranged attackers

You could try, but as I remember, you cannot cast on mobs when they are in water and you are above it. Of course, if you are talking about casting dot's on mobs and then taking them over out onto the water, you could, but what would be the point in that besides a level surface, which you would already have due to levitate being on you.

What am I doing wrong?
# Dec 11 2001 at 12:02 PM Rating: Decent
I've been looking for a good place to solo my lvl 15 paladin in Faydwer for a while, and tried here after reading these posts. After about 3 hours I'd got nowhere. Hunted near the fab 4, but had long periods of finding nothing at all. When I did find a blue or yellow, half the time a tidal lord would show and I'd have to take him with my victim to the fab 4. Think I managed about 3 kills in 2 hours, and any exp gained was lost when the 4 ignored the umpteenth tidal lord I brought them and I died.

you should just stay at the edge and run to the other zone... dammit, the name slipped my mind... just read other posts to find the name... i wanna say Befallen buti doubt it... anyways, at your lvl, the beetles and undead roaming outside is good exp... the undead should give you a blue bubble per kill... it did for me... it may take awhile because the beetles don't aggro until you attack something, then they just gang up on you so... get a group and head there...
RE: What am I doing wrong?
# Mar 16 2003 at 3:25 AM Rating: Default
replace Befallen with Unrest... jezzus how'd i ***** that one up... anyways Unrest is a good place to gain MANY levels of EXP because the mansion houses <ground lvl> mobs lvl 20-30... <upper lvl> 30-40... <lower lvl> 40+... i may have the upper and lower switched but... this guild <required lvl 50+> in Bertoxx did a guild raid on it... so if you had a big group, like 3 separate groups, you could prolly make about 20 levels in a week if you went there everyday for a couple of hours and just killed killed killed...
Re: Sigan's secret
# Oct 27 2001 at 9:53 PM Rating: Default
My Ranger is lvl 18 and I just discovered this place. Can't add much to what the other Rangers have already said, except that I agree: it is a good place to solo. I've been camping near the fab four mobs and patrolling the steep cliffs on both sides of them. Without tracking, I'll usually find a Gob Mariner or two. The fab four have always come to my rescue... that is until tonight. I couldn't figure out why until I read the post below -- Sigan has to be there to start the fight. And it must be true, because Sigan was no where to be seen while a Mariner and a Shaman beat the lights out of me and the rest of the fab four watched half interested. The moral of this story? If you think you'll need back-up from the four mobs, time your attacks well.
Solo in DC
# Oct 24 2001 at 2:26 PM Rating: Default
Im a lvl 17 ranger and have just started soloing in DC. Oasis is crowded, CB is drying up and Unrest has gotten a little boring ( usually 4 people there on my server.
Soloing here without track would be harder but it is possible and this zone has lots of benefits. Often i am the only person there. That is true soloing, there never anyone KSing and when a "named" spawns hes all mine ( still waiting for that to happen). You can stay close to the heros and get blue mariners and white shaman pretty easily, just watch adds. Ive heard one the heroes will heal but when i ask he just tells me to rest. Either way resting there is safe. Exp is good and theres a merchant out on the island in the middle, dont swim it unless you have camo or very good swim tho b/c lots of tidal lords stay in the water and shamans that like to root you underwater. This can make for one gnarly CR so camo or lev across if you must sell. There are 2 camps to hit if you have mezz etc or are in a group. Close to unrest are gobs and on the other side are orcs. Orcs see thro invis ive been told so watch travels.
There are about 5 or 6 named mobs here 3 of whihc ( i think) are pretty low lvl (10ish) and still drop good items. One drops a life saving potion that gives you some 200 odd hp and makes you invunerable for about 15 sec, good way to beat those trains, or give you time to get off your big nuke. The other ones are higher lvl. The only time people are in this zone with me is when they are camping them, Barancle bones and Dwigus i think. Normally the campers are in the 40's and will buff and heal you why they wait as long you keep a look out for their mobs.
So youve got about 4 gaurds and ocassional high lvls to help you, a huge zone where you can really go solo, and awesome exp. Its a great zone and ive enjoyed it very much.

I don't think anybody has said this yet, so I will. They fixed the problem with the fab 4 attacking PCs. They don't always help, but they have only killed me for accidentally hitting the beg button while one was targeted. This was fixed a month or so ago.
The Island??

Did nobody swim to the island nearby? I cant find mention of it anywhere
RE: The Island??
# Aug 28 2001 at 9:38 AM Rating: Default
The island has 2 dwarven NPCs on it, one sells poinson, I haven't found a use for the other. neither assisted me when I was fighting, so if you go there you are on your own. Swimming there can be quite dangerous, as the pathing in DC takes a lot of goblins across the lake, and they can swim pretty fast--there also seems to be a lot of rats in the water, some of which will aggro on you, even when they are green. It is easy to fall and take damage on the island if you are not careful, as it is a pretty steep climb to the top in some places. There are a few spawn points here, and I have seen both Jetsam and Floatsam here, although I don't know if their spawn points are on the island or not for sure. If ou are truly desperae to sell, or need the poison suplies, then get an invis or levitate and head to the island, but it really isn't worth it for the exp.

On another note, I basically soloed from 17 to 21 with my enchanter here. The exp was great for the amount of time I spent here, and the loot was pretty decent. I did take an occasional trip to unrest when invited, but not much ever came from there. I was at a little risk while at 17, but if an enchanter can solo here, then I imagine that most other classes should have little or no difficulty soloing DC as low as 14. I certainly intend to take my cleric (13) there soon.
Great place for Rangers
# Aug 27 2001 at 2:18 PM Rating: Default
I've fought in Dagnor's Cauldron with my Ranger for about 4 levels now (21-24) This really is an underrated zone -- esp. for Rangers and Druids. I can't imagine hunting here without tracking; the hardest thing about this zone is finding something to kill.

Decent solo experience for my level, although it's definitely slowing down now. Groups could probably safely start here around level 15 or so.

As far as loot is concerned... not bad, but not the best. Aqua goblins don't carry armor and only rarely have weapons (except for the hunting bow they always carry.) They do seem to drop a lot of coin... the weakest mariner can have up to 5 gold, and tidal lords sometimes drop over 2 platinum each and (very rarely) bronze weapons. Shamans sometimes carry bone totems (worth almost 2 pp from vendors) and can also carry cracked staffs.

Also, every goblin always drops 4 arrows, which is great for Rangers who need to practice archery. Best way is to fight a blue or white con until it starts to run, snare it so it can't move, and unload a stack or so of free arrows you've looted.) I've easily brought my Archery skill up from low 20's to mid 90's doing this, without spending any extra money on ammo.

If you don't want to track your prey, the goblin camp near Unrest can be easily soloed (with a little help from your Harmony spell.) Goblins cannot see through Camoflauge, so medding up is no problem (except for undertow skeletons, but they're pretty low level.)

Other advantages are that you can sell your loot without leaving the zone (a dwarven merchant stays on the top of the island in the middle of the lake), there is a group of guard NPC's in the zone to help when you get in over your head, and you are right outside of Unrest (makes it easy to maybe get in on a pick-up group if you get tired of fighting the goblins.) Not a bad setup. :)

Overall, a pretty good zone... nice alternative for those sick of hunting in the Oasis.

Does anyone know who the plate garbed dwarf with the 2 handed staff is on poison vendor island? I swam over there the other night, and the vendor was gone. After an OOC, someone said that he was at the base of the hill, so I ran around the base to find him. Instead of the vendor, I found this cleric/paladin by the glowing pillar where the gobs hang out. Being a dwarven paladin, I hailed him expecting some chit chat, but I got no response. Right clicking on him didnt do anything, so he isnt a vendor. Then when getting attacked by a gob and a skellie, I ran to him to see if he was a guard, but he just stood there. Any ideas on what this guy is for?
Fab 4
# Jun 18 2001 at 10:11 AM Rating: Decent
I had the same issue - In this case I was medding up a Tidal lord came along and the fab 4 attacked - Since I was almost fully up I attacked tidal lord as well ( no i did not hit any of the fab 4 - Im a (was 25 now 24 again)warrior so no AOE went off accidently. An undertow skeleton showed up as well and after one more round of hitting the tidal lord EVERYONE turned on me - The skeleton, the tidal loard and the fab 4 - Maybe the undertow skeletons have a charm spell??

I am a dwarf ally, the others are indiffernt excpet gnome who is apprehensive. Normally they help me - I think it is the undertow skels that cause the attacks.
Fab 4 and skels
# Jun 13 2001 at 4:03 PM Rating: Default
My 14th lvl dwarf cleric has had a rough afternoon. Binding myself to the foot of the pass, I proceeded to solo blue mariners and even to yellow sandbar's and undertows. several times I ran to the Fab 4. They saved me several times from that second odd goblin, and a couple of rats that would not let me sit with my eyes closed, and one snake that would just not go down. They killed me three times, the Fab 4 did, each time I was being attacked by undertow skeletons.
The Dwarf member of the crew, who con's me as an ally 8) was, I am proud to report, the first to attack me each time, and twice got the killing blow!!
The fun part comes next. I did a /w after the second time because I had seen a couple of pc's there, noticed they were two gm's, one afk. I ran immediately back to the scene and asked him if he had seen it, he told me he had not been watching and suggested maybe I had agro'd the 4 myself somehow, or that I had gotten in the crossfire of their AE or AoE spells.? I asked how that would happen ? whose AE/ AoE's? he pointed in turn, yeah you! at each of the 4.
I was trying to figure how to respond to that when an undertow skel blindsided me, and the four killed me at the gm's feet.
I sent him a tell,'Now do you believe me? LoL"
His response,"Interesting" and a moment later, "it seems they are on the same faction"
A dwarf Ally and an undead 'scowls ready to attack', are on the same faction?
Yeah interesting, I was so frustrated I had to log.
Don't bring them a skeleton and expect help, is all i can say. Maybe this is a bug, maybe there is a quest involved, I don't have a clue.

I'm not sure how it happened, but my party of 3 & a random wanderer were standing around the hero camp while one of my party healed up from a near death experience, & suddenly the heroes started whacking on us & all but one of us died. We went over the log & discussed it amongst the 3 of us, but not with the wanderer (whom I haven't seen since), & the nearest we can tell, either nothing at all set them off, or the wanderer's AE on a rat or something that attacked him did it. I'm still not sure how to reapproach this camp, if I should at all. Still hunting the area, though, mostly solo. Bard 21 currently, very reasonable solo xp.
Fab 4

Oh, just a quick note of something I've found while wandering through DC on the Fab4 and how they go about helping people... Sometimes when you're in trouble and run back to them they stand around like their in some deep meditative state. I happened to be SoWed so I ran about a bit (somethin' akin to a krag chick with it's head cut off) and I happened to notice that one of the Fab4 had run over the hill behind the tent and didn't quite have a straight line-of-sight view of my battle. When I ran over to this guy, as soon as he saw that I was fighting, he called the rest on over to help out. If they don't assist you immediately I'd suggest trying to run over the top of the hill towards the water a bit and then back to the camp. This has helped save me a couple times and might just come in handy.
