This is the Vah Shir Beastlord quest series. You must first do the citizenship quest.

    Part 1 - Handwraps

Animist Poren needs to see your Acrylia Slate.

Animist Poren says "I have much for you to do . There is a great need for capable Khati Sha in this new land. It is important that you progress speedily. We need to outfit you with the equipment that defines our chosen path. We'll start with your battleclaws, but be aware of the fact that it will take you some time.before you can use both sets in combat. Just keep them both with you while you learn.

Animist Poren says "Take this stitching pack and combine two shadeling silks from the xakra worms. Combine two of the threads to make a bandage. Take this pattern and sew together three of the bandages. With considerable practice this will produce the handwraps that will be a foundation for your first sacred weapon. When you have created them retuen to me the scrap material.

He then gives you a Khati Sha Handwrap Pattern and a Stitching Pack.

    To make the handwraps:

    (1) Combine two shadeling silks in the Stitching Pack to make a Shade Silk Thread. Silks are found on the Xakla Larvae in the pit (Shar Vahl) and on the Xakla Silkworms in Shadeweaver's Thicket.
    (2) Combine 2 Shade Silk Threads in the Stitching Pack to make a Shade Silk Bandage.
    (3) Combine 3 Shade Silk Bandages and the Khati Sha Handwrap Pattern to make Khati Sha Handwraps.

Successfully making the Handwraps (which is possible with a Tailoring skill of 4 - though unlikely!) also generates a Silk Scrap. Return the scrap to Animist Poren for part 2 of the quest

    Part 2 - Claws

Upon giving Animist Poren the Shade Silk Scraps:

Animist Poren says, 'That took quite some time considering the simplicity of the task. Please _______, work on becoming more efficient. We have much to do and time is of the essence. In your stitching pack, combine the handwraps, two young hopperclaws and forged fasteners. Return to me with the resulting claws and your [initiate's cloak.]'

    You gain experience!

    You say, 'What initiate's cloak?'

Animist Poren says, 'You should have received your initiate's cloak if you presented your acrylia slate and notarized application to Elder Animist Sahdi. You can give those two items to him if you have not already and receive your cloak.'

You say, 'What are forged fasteners?'

Animist Poren says, 'Perhaps one of our smiths can assist you with the forged fasteners. I'd check the armory.'

Ask Kagazz about "Forged Fasteners". He is behind the armoury by the forge at (/loc 254, -182, -189).

You say, 'Can you make forged fasteners?'

Kagazz squints as he reads your lips, 'Fasteners you say? Show me your slate and I'll make you a deal.

Give him your Acrylia Slate of Sharl Vahl. He returns it and says:

Kagazz says, 'My wife is making some jewelry. Not the sparkly stuff, mind you. She is nearly blind so appearance means little to her. She is intent on making jewelry with a more, uhh, natural feel. Currently she's constructing a special scorpion leg necklace, and is in need of more scorpion legs. I can't leave the shop so I need your help. Fill this box with scorpion legs and I'll pay you with metal fasteners that any merchant will gladly buy.'

Collect four NO TRADE "Scorpion Leg" or four "Scorpion Legs" (these latter are marked as QUEST ITEM and are stackable). Either will work but they cannot be mixed. Combine these in the box Kagazz gave you to receive Box of Scorpion Legs. Return this to him to receive one (1) Forged Fasteners. Also note that the fasteners are NO TRADE so any merchant will not, in fact, gladly buy them as he claimed.

    Upon Turn in:

Kagazz says, 'Ahh, _______! I thank you, my wife will be most grateful. Here are the fasteners I promised you. You know ______, there was a time that young, would-be smiths would seek my approval so that they could study the ways of the forge under my tutelage. That was back when I was Master Smith, before I named Barkhem my successor.'
    You gain experience!

    Combine:

    1x Forged Fastners,
    2x Young Hopperclaw,
    1x Khati Sha Handwraps,
    In the Stitching Pack

On successful combine, you receive Primary Silk Khati Sha Claw and Secondary Silk Khati Sha Claw. NOTE: the Handwraps are lost in the combine and are not returned in a later stage of the quest.

Return both Silk Khati Sha Claws AND your Initiate's Cloak of Shar Vahl to Animist Poren. Animist Poren is at 275, 47, -258. Enter the castle (west central district), descend the stairs, and turn right. Walk through the arch and turn right again. Descend the stairs at the end of the hallway. Enter the door and take the door on your left. Animist Poren is in this room.

    Upon Turn In:

Animist Poren says "Well, you're off to a slow start, but it is a start. You will do well to accomplish your tasks in a more timely fashion. You have chosen a path full of trials, . I say again, time is of the essence. Take my seal to Mahron Sood and prepare yourself for the upcoming challenges."

    You gain experience!

You recieve: Reinforced Primary/Secondary Claws as well as the Cloak of The Khati Sha Recruit and the Seal of Animist Poren

Animist Poren shouts " Friends, I have news to share! It has taken longer than it should, but at last has completed our initiatory tasks and will now be given the priveleges reserved for the Khati Sha recruits!. Soon we hope to have this citizen ready to aid in the exploring of this new land. Please give support in whatever ways you can and trouble this recruit as little as possible, for seems to be easily distracted."

I have gotten to the part to collect the Molars from the sonic wolf pups. I have seen one so far. This part is for the guy in the Library, he said something about making them magaical.
But am being told that after this part you will need one of SharVal class to go farther something about helping eachother based on what skill you have is what you will have to contribute. Anyone gotten the molars to move on?
    Bags
    # Dec 18 2001 at 6:39 AM Rating: Decent
There are multiple quests to obtain bags in Shar Vahl.

    1) Two Merchants near palace. (Don't have notes for loc atm). One will give you a bowl, the other a bag to collect hopper hides.

The one who gives you the bowl will end up giving you a 4 slot bag once you complete the pottery portion of this quest. (I will find my notes)

    2) Shadeweavers Thicket. Talk to Raer who wanders up and down the path. He makes mention of the "refuse." Give him 4 of the red (look like red guts) refuse you find and you will get a bag.

    3) Tailoring small bags. Because you are killing so many small hoppers and Xakra worms tailor small and medium bags. This not only raises your tailoring skill (good for handwraps) but gives you the potential of having something to put your stuff in.

I failed on the claws every time time I tried, but I finally got them on the FIFTH attempt (!!!), with a Tailoring skill of 23.

Frustratingly tough little stage of the overall quest. Just got to keep plugging away at it and hope for a little luck when you hit that Combine button.

Some rumor going around that part of this is broken and an NPC eats the claws. Kery Miann?

Anyone have any information on the rumor?

Just some information to your rumor you heard. I just did the quest up to collecting the sonic wolf pup molars, and not Kery Miann, nor any other NPC's up to this point have 'eaten' my claws, cloak or anything you turn in for the quest. Hope nothing further up is broken, but even if, I am sure it will be fixed, God knows they have enough patches throughout the week; would be nice if they actually did something ;)
    Forged Fasteners
    # Dec 18 2001 at 1:12 AM Rating: Decent
After Poren gives the task of getting the forged fasteners and hopper claws, you need to ask Poren about the forged fasteners, or Kazagg will not talk to you about it, and you can not get his box for the scorpian legs. Also, make sure u combine the box once all four scorpian legs are in it. Good luck all!!!

You don't have to ask Kagazz about it at all. Say 'I need forged fasteners'. He'll then have you hand him your slate.

He just won't respond to hails because he's supposed to be half deaf from all the hammering.

The guards will kill the sonic wolves but that is about all. Anyway, the source of glow is the glowing heart stone from the glowing muck diggers. I found them in the cavern if you go to the right from shadeweaver in paluldal (follow right wall) The cavern has plerg phlarg (sp?) fiends in it which are blue to 15 and so are the glowing muck digger (blue to 15 that is). While i fought it the other beetle types did not agro me, but be careful because plergs will. after you combine that and you recruit cloak in the box given to you by kery miann, give it to her and she will give you new cloak and tell you to go to Kaam (can't remember last name) and give him yuor recruit claws to have him imbue them with magic. He is in the building directly to the south of the palace stairs, (turn right if coming down them) He then gives you another box to put the molars of 2 sonic wolf pups in hollowshade moor. I know the reg sonic wolves are red to 15. Only have seen one wolf pup and that was a few lvls ago when they were red to me, so do not know their lvl. I was told the molars are very rare. Will post more when I get past this step.
    after the hoppers
    # Dec 17 2001 at 9:34 PM Rating: Decent
first, don't expect the guards on Hollowshade to help you.

after you turn in the hopper tails, you get a note to give back to Kerry Miann. She gives you a box to put the "source of glow" from a shelled creature in paludal Caverns in with your recruit cloak.

The guards in Hollowshade will now help. I guess it was after the patch last night (12/17). They actually "guard" now!
    Hopper tails?
    # Dec 17 2001 at 4:32 PM Rating: Decent
I've done everything else and have just hit 10 so I'm thinking about starting to collect the tails. What reward do you get when you turn them in?

When you turn in the hopper tails after combine, she gives you something to take back to Kery Miann, then i think we are supposed to collect stuff from sonic wolves, someone told me was wolfbane from them, but that i do not know for sure, going to turn into Kery Miann as soon as i log in to eq, so will come back and post what i learn, though I do know that most sonic wolves are red to a 15.
    Claw Quest
    # Dec 17 2001 at 2:22 PM Rating: Default
I hunted those Young hoppers and Scorps enough to finally get my claws on the 10th try. My tailoring at the time was 23 and during my hunt fellow felines were cussing that their skill was 30 and failed 7 times, and yet there was at least one who got theirs with their skill at 9. So i believe skill isn't a major factor. On the next part of getting the straps, be prepared for a long hunt. Since the HQ pelts can be used to make those awesome backpacks your in for some heavy competition, not to mention since this is a new playable race and Class everyone will want to be a Beastmaster :)

If your having trouble with making the straps, just remember what my hero says:

"Give me that roll of Duck Tape, and I'll show you how a real handyman works..." - Red Green

Yeah, I think this one is a little tough. Either that, or I just suck, huh?

Seriously, I raised my Tailoring up to 23, so far, while failing this quest three times, too. And still no claws!

This is NOT, by any stretch of the imagination, a cakewalk. Be prepared to run this thing a number of times, and know that you aren't the only one whose butt it keeps kicking.

Resist the temptation to waste practice points by pumping them into Tailoring at the expense of other skills.

You will get your Tailoring skill up a a little bit by the time you finally get the claws made.

    /sighs

/spends his entire savings on three backpacks and heads back out to the pit

Meant to say that I am doing this with backpacks, stitching kit, and the fastener box next time.

That way, I should be able to get enough components to try it about four or five times in a row.

I should be able to raise my Cussing skill by several points in the process.

    Young Rockhopper Claws

These are fairly rare drops and only drop from the pinkish young rockhoppers that can be found in the pit generally under the north bridge.

For the later quests any hopper in the thicket stands a chance of dropping the HQ hides, even the needle claw hoppers.

You can also use these HQ hopper hides for making the 10 slot 10% Weight reducing backpacks.

    Hope that helps a little

    Rockhopper Claws
    # Dec 17 2001 at 11:39 AM Rating: Decent
I have been hunting Rockhoppers in the pit for days looking for claws. I find that I have only gotten "thin razor claws" I believe they are called. I attempted to combine those with my fasteners and my wraps but get a "you cannot combine these items" message. I must assume that I have the wrong claws. I hunted only "Young Rockhopper" after that point but never got a claw. Do the proper claws only drop off the Young Rockhoppers as opposed to the "Razorclaw Rockhopper"? I have killed so many of these things that I advanced to level 5 already. Thanks for any help on completing this part of the quest.
    RE: Rockhopper Claws
    # Dec 17 2001 at 4:22 PM Rating: Default
The claws you need drop off of "A young Rochopper" and not the other "A needle clawed Hopper" The young Rockhopper claws are NO DROP and look like the Aviak Talons off of the Krag Chicks and Krag Elders of Butcher Block. I would also suggest checking the already dead bodies of the Young Rockhoppers since some people are doing a bard quest instead of this one and need young rockhopper hides and the claws are worthless to them. I got 1 claw off of one that I killed myself and 1 claw off of one that was already dead and just laying there.
