Spawned on the upper balcony and drop the helmet. Very easy to kill this named mob. Used the leviate from the hill side to enter area then fight down the castle.
Killed Heratius Grolden today, which in turn spawned The Fabled Valdanov Zevfeer, an even con at level 75. Zevfeer dropped his regular quest ashes as well as the 80/80 Fabled Ashes augment.
Grolden dropped the Helm, bleh ... looking for the cloak!
I have been camping the castle in TM for about 13 hours in 3 days total time. I got Zekhas'katar to drop off of Gorelaz today and just before I gated out I checced my traccing to see if any namers were up and low and behold the Enfamous Grolden was up. I rushed up to the top taged him with an arrow and then ran down to the 2nd platform and killed him there. I was luccy and he droped the Fist of Iron for me WOOT. My lvl 2 monk is going to love his 2 new weaps. GO TWINKS hahahaha.
This guy is a wimp..soloed him with my 70 ranger. He is immune to run speed changes but just dot him with a couple of dots and kite him and shoot from a distance.FYI..he does NOT summon.I am well equiped though with a lot of time gear and bow of the tempest as well as a damage infliction aug.
Was just in TM waiting for Trilexior Aeridia to spawn, the other 2 named were up then he showed up. I killed him and he started running at 20%, managed to get him killed after he went down the first half of the stairs, ninja looted and booted it back up the stiars to jump off the balcony and there was another named up all of a sudden. This being Mr. Grolden. The other 2 named were still alive.
I have been soloing this guys since lvl 60 (Necro). He has never even challenged me. Send pet, slow, funeral pyre, life dot, repeat. Never even gone under 70% mana. Valdanov is quite a challenge. I have soloed him at 65. Gave pet bane weapons sent him in slowed, funeral pyre, pyrocur, saryrn's kiss, and healed pet with Touch of death. I had to reslow him 2 times it was a rather long fight but easy enough.
Once he Dies Valdanov spawns and stays up for about an hour to an hour and a half. Same applies to Heratius when he's up.
Heratius can be soloed by a lot of people yes...Valdanov can be a trick...He hurts a lot more than any of the named and he's only harmed by Vampire bane so.... Hope this is informative and you dont have to sift through the junk that's below this.
"He spawns 'bout once every 72 hours providing the 4 Named inside are killed. "
False information. Only the fop floor flappy (Trilexior Aeridia) has to be killed in order to spawn Horatius Grolden. It is also possible to lev and run over the balcony from the hill at the back of the castle if you or your horse are fast enough. So you can simply just keep killing Aeridia and eventually HG will spawn. He can also spawn consecutively, suggesting that after Aeridia is killed whether HG spawns or not is random.
Not sure what his timer is but this guy DOES despawn. Was excited to see him up on my tracker toon, by the time I got there with some friends he had despawned. 8(
I saw no mention of this anywhere, I knew Zevfeer had a despawn timer but not this guy. Anyhow just a heads up, gotta get to this this guy fast also.
Soloed this guy the other night, 62 Necro here. Easiest way is to pull him with slow, and run back downsatairs outside, so you have room to work - he took out my pet fairly early, so most of the fight was me running, DoTing him, and running back and forth as he chased me around. Has a couple of nasty nukes and a fairly weak DoT. (Blood of Pain , or something) Took maybe 10 minutes to take him down, dropped a Volitis Wing Cloak - since I already had one just /ooc'd the drop and it was soon snatched up by a passing SK. Was a fun, challenging fight.
How the heck do you get this guy to spawn? I have been waiting trying every technique I can for 4 days now. I kill all named in castle, no spawn. All named in zone, no spawn. Whats the deal with this? Some info would be greatly appreciated....
last night i took my chars in here again in hopes of getting those boots off that cloaked pansy. we were camped on the top lvl in the castle we had a druid in our grp that keeps evak loaded at all times, but we were doing very well until this chump spawned right on top of us. HT me ( 58 ) for 1k and change droped me in less then 10 seconds then took out the chanter for tashing with a new rune she still droped in about 20 seconds while all this is going on, druid started casting evak after i died. he choped down the chanter and the druid before evak got off cleric gated to zone line. had to hire a necro to summon corpses. and still no boots =(
grp consisted of chanter 64, rouge 58, druid 54, cleric 52. this was a sad sad display of power by this chump.
I figure since there is no mob information on this guy, I might as well spill my guts about everything I know.
When Luclin first came out, the Loyalist Shield of Honor quest was broken. At the time, Heratius Grolden did not spawn Valdanov Zefveer upon death. I think it took a couple of people at a Fan-Faire to get SoE's attention and say, "Hey, fix this ******* quest!". Don't quote me on that though. I really don't know the true facts.
Upon some zone investigation, it is my opinion that this quest was never actually broken, but simply too hard to figure out. I play a female halfling warrior and, to my advantage, I can simply duck against walls to look right through them. What I found was rather interesting and particular about the Tenebrous Mountains. I'm sure it has been noted before, but if you look through the walls at the Katta zoneline, you will see another room just to the southwest of it that looks like a castle structure.
Now, it has been said that sometimes druids would find Valdanov on track, but were never able to find him. Coincidence? Or just poor programming? In my opinion, you were probably originally supposed to say something or trigger something crazy unknown and port to that inner room where you would fight Valdanov.
Anyways, that's all changed now and you have to sit there and wait rediculous amounts of time for Heratius Grolden to spawn so you can kill him to spawn Valdanov. Yah! /sacasm
Valdanov is a level 62 necro who can cast some rather mean dots on you. He will fear you, snare you, and generally rip you apart if he lands on of these dots. Thankfully, he doesn't cast too often. His melee is pathetic compaired to what we're used to now in PoP, but it's still twice that of the normal named. He will double you for 370, but expect his average hit to be in the area of the mid 250's for a 1300ac+ warrior. The difference is, however, is that his AC is rediculously high like most other Luclin encounters. I was quadding for a lost of 1's while I had at it as my warrior. The rogue who I was playing with often backstabbed for minimum damage most of the time.
His HP is consistant with all other mobs in the zone. The centurions have roughly 3k, generals 6k, named have 12k, Heratius has 24k, and to no suprise, Valdanov has about 48k hp. His rather high regen rate and 1k lifetap that he can proc simply make this number appear more than it really is, so expect a long fight.
Overall, Valdanov is not hard. He really isn't. You can slow and cripple him to the ends of the earth like most mobs in the game to make the fight MUCH easier. If your guild can do Kunark dragons, you can kill this guy. You just have to stay on top of quick heals. His lifetap is the only thing that makes him hard.
He is:
10-15 players in their 50's 7-12 players in their high 50's 6 players at level 60 3-5 players 61+
***MINOR TACTIC ALERT***
Valdanov Zefveer is stunnable. Mage and beastlord pets are your friends. Remember that.
:D
(I am probably wrong about the lore behind this quest.)
We did this guy a few nights ago. Tried with 5 people, 65 BST, 62 BST, 57 BST, 57 PAL and 60 DRU. Couldn't get him out of the castle, and managed to darn near wipe. So, we bring in a 53 MNK, 60 SHM, 52 CLR, 60 CLR.
15 minutes later, Valdanov goes down.
Tactic we used: 65 BST pulls and begins to kite, generating as much aggro as possible. When she felt the time was right, the pets were sent in. All through this process, the PAL was casting TOK to slooooowly drain his mana, and also CLR and PAL casting undead DD/DOTs. When BST would lose aggro, pets would be called off and BST would generate aggro again, shortly thereafter, pets back in. When Valdanov got to 20%, all melee would go in, everyone staying to the front to prevent gates. He will start trying to gate at 20%, so it's important to stop this.
Once he dropped, the PAL (me. :) ) got the ashes. One of the first quests I have ever done were we started it at the end, and then started what we finished. LOL
Solo'ed this guy today as a 65 shm.. 40 aa's (cann5 included) took 30 mins with just pet beating on it and me quis'ing pet, but it was do'able. Killed him on the steps between top and middle floor.. as the top floor named roamer popped right as I pulled him. looted a fist of iron.. then the warrior named came up the steps.. so had no rest time. poor me . lol.
Not 5 mins later ( yes 5 mins! ) he repopped.. so I called a 65 ranger friend with am3 and did him again. got helm. Vald popped, we got agro'ed by him and named enchanter roamer. Cause he was out of place, by the time we got bane weapons from katta and the sk to help us kill him,. he had despawned.
This guy has the same model as all the other named winged vampyres. His spawn location is to the right of the balcony if you're looking at it from the hill behind, or to the left of the balcony if you're standing inside. His spawn point is not interchangeable with the centurion. It is completely his own spawnpoint.
Now, his spawn time is a little tricky, but I think I found out a pattern to it. So far, the pattern has worked for me, but it's not definite, so don't quote me on this one.
I've noticed Heratius Grolden to spawn once every 60 hours. During that period of time, he will spawn once and only once. If you happen to catch him up a couple of hours after he spawns, it's because the new interval of 60 hours has started. Now, within that period of 60 hours, his chance to spawn is every 3 hours. How do I know this? Because after writing down his exact spawntimes after a period of time, I began to notice that all the spawn times were within numbers divisible by 3. Not 14 hours and 17 minutes, not 29 hours and 2 minutes, but always 33 hours or 45 hours or 57 hours, etc. You get the picture.
Now, using that prediction method, I was able to predict Heratius Grolden's spawn time to within 3 hours of his actual pop. I had already planned on him popping, so I had my warrior and my friend's rogue there fully buffed while my friend and I waited as my mage and his shaman.
The dedication payed off. This quest is well worth it.
This guy enrages and flurrys. Has about the HP of arena giants in kael ... mayb more. Took him out with 61 necro 53 warrior(me) 53 necro 55 beast 51 necro and some other class w/ a pet. Fist of Iron dropped, which went to the beastlord. Near this guy there is another vampire that cons yellow to a lv 61. Forgot what his name was ... he popped soon after we took this guy
Killed him last night and he dropped the Fist of Iron and this: Vampyre Volatilis Ashes. Anyone know what these are for ? I've looked for them here on Ala's but can't find a listing or use for them. If you know what the ashes are for please post it. Thanks
BUT you got to Indentify the ashes because the ones Heratius drops are not the ones you need. You need the ones when identified are "Ashes of Valdanov Zevfeer".
It is unknown what Heratius ashes are for. But doing the quest with his will make you loose everything up to the point when you turn it in.
A 61 beastlord and I (60 beastlord) took this guy out recently. We cleared the 3rd floor and pulled him off the balcony and pinned him against a wall for a slug match. We took turns tanking and stepped back at our leisure to heal ourselves and deliver a nuke or two. Fight was not easy and took a fairly long time, but down he went. Unfortunately all he dropped was the cloak which rotted despite the 30 minute timer. Maybe he will drop something useful next time.

Posted:Apr 18 2003 at 1:48 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) This guy is a *****. When you engage him he does have a nasty 1k-ish harm touch and tripple life sucked 200hp but after that he just piddles out mid 100's in damage IF he's lucky, casts alot of spells that I resisted as 62 Beastlord.. life taps are only real pain and makes fight looong. 1st try to solo got him to 50% life and ran me out of mana without KEI. So my suggestions: Losta damage (bane damage or otherwise), good magic resists, and slow slow slow. If I only had another 2500 mana or a partner he'd have gone down like a sack of potatoes. :P
65 wizzy here just solod him 2 out of 3 times . he is un rootable unsnareable like all the other named ( winged bosses) he is lvl 58 i believe and he does cast a lot so for a caster to duke it out with him you want to have a rune up and spell casting haste focus and just channel a lot of damage through him. he has around 20k hp from what i saw but it could have been his regen also which is very high and they can and do heal them selves if you get out of range or they get to close to other named .
