Rusted Throneblade Quest?
# Jul 22 2001 at 9:49 AM Rating: Decent
Hmm... here's a possibility. Has anyone tried turning in the Rusted Throneblade and all 3 scales to this gnome?
The Throneblade for the gnome, and the three scales to prove that it came from this Scalekeeper.

My god what a waste that would be if it didn't do anything.

Someone tried it:

Quote:

You say, 'Hail, Grynnaf Einoom'
Grynnaf Einoom looks at Pelorus and wonders if he is looking for the Scalekeeper

You say, 'I am looking for the scalekeeper'
Grynnaf Einoom says 'Ahh... Ye be lookin' for Nortlav then. Notlav is a strong fella. Ye dunna want to mess with the likes of him. He's known as a dragonslayer. I heard that he keeps the scales of the dragons he's slain. Yer not impressed eh? All the dragons he's killed have died by the blade of a [rusty weapon]

You say, 'Why a rusty weapon?'
Grynnaf Einoom says 'Aye, I dunno know why he does what he does. But every dragon he's killed died by the likes of a rusty weapon. I dunno where he is now, but I heard he can be found in the depths of Norrath, surrounded by darkness'

Couldn't get any more info out of him. Tried handing him the Rusted Thorneblade and he didn't respond. Got pissed so I wacked him (No faction hit) and took my sword back. He respawned a few minutes later. Would love to have any more info on this guy anyone can gather.

only Red scale

I've killed this guy 4 times with my guild. What we got only red scales and rusty blade, I don't think any other kind of scales could be dropped by him. Maybe the rusty blade worth more than the scale after quest finish.

[original post 7/10/2001]

Took him down 2 minutes ago. He was level 53 this time, dropped a red scale and the crap sword. I don't know where you got the info that he drops a green scale now, only place I've heard is Hoshkar. Can't verify that, but I haven't heard any other source mentioned.

[edit on 7/22/2001]

I have confirmed that Hoshkar in Veeshan's Peak does drop a Green Scale now. He is in fact the "new source" that was mentioned in the patch message on 6/27/2001. Before this time, the only known source of Green Scales was Severilous, the dragon in EJ. I have not heard of anyone who has ever killed Nortlav the Scalekeeper and obtained a Green Scale.
Dragon Pendant?

I have heard that this chap is also in p[ossesion of a Dragon Pendant. Has anyone ever seen him with one? I do not know what the properties are, but would like to verify if he has ever had one.

This is the new holder of the green scale, so now this makes him the most wanted mob for warriors in norrath ;)

OK the way you kill him is this
# Jun 20 2001 at 5:31 AM Rating: Default
You need atleast 3 groups of people 54+ firstoff, and 3 enchanters as well as a couple clerics, youve got to have the enchanters chain rune the tanks which makes nortlavs lifetap nonexistant. he doesnt even try to use it when you have rune because with rune you are fully resistant to the spell. furthermore you need atleast 2 warriors with multiple other tanks and some good nukage.

#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 17 2001 at 1:08 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Greetings, I am a 24th Season Shadow Knight on Nameless. I saw the Rusted Throneblade and its a major improvement over my Dark Reaver(dumb thing doesn't proc for 6 more levels...) Anyway, from what i gather here, he always drops a rusted Throneblade.
Best Way To KILL
# Jun 07 2001 at 6:48 PM Rating: Default
What is everyones mind is the best way of killing this guy? I heard VS strategy is the best, have tanks go in, use riposte disc etc etc, and then have casters, does this work the best?

Thanks!
only red scales
# Jun 05 2001 at 3:34 AM Rating: Default
we got this guy for about 3 times now, and everytime only sword and red scale. i don't believe it anymore that he drops other scales too :(

Beta Neutral

Nortlav's been moved to beta neutral faction. Killed him the other day with no problem clearing his room or anything, he didn't chain aggro on anything in the room and didn't aggro anybody til we attacked him. He conned indiff to all but me, and I have amiable beta neutral faction, hehe.

If this guy can be dotted he can be tugur'd.

Bring a chanter and sham. Have wars and monks use riposte disc to get him down some hps before you tash him.

When he gets down to about 80% tash, malosini and tugur him. Might have to coh your chanter after tash but I doubt it long as chanter dont sit right after tash. Repeat malosini till it sticks or just bring a 60 mage or shaman to malo him.

After tugur's you should follow up with cripple to help with them damn procs. I would give the rusty throneblade to the new guy in LFay that talks about him. Who knows you might get a sweet dragonbane proccin sword =P

as the gnome says he slayed many dragons with this sword, does it have a hidden goodie. like if u hit a Daragon with it, it does way more dmg ?

did anyone ever get a white dragon scale of him ?

k - he's got high magic resist. low cold resist. he is not stunnable. however... say you have a bunch of tanks and a bunch of wizzes casting lures and ice comet - you can take him down... just tack that onto normal vs tactics and you'll get him. =)
Scalekeeper

Went on a raid of the Hole earlier today, and we had the 'opportunity' to meet this dude. We actually found him IN Master Yael's lair, and believe me trying to kill Yael and this guy at the same time is not easy. We didn't manage to do it unfortunately, we got wiped out fast. After many unsuccessful attempts to pull the other elementals in the room out away from Yael we decided to just all rush Yael, we sort of ignored the Scalekeeper which was a fatal mistake. As soon as we were in and fighting this dude sprang into action, all the tanks were engaged with Yael and the enchanters worked on the 2 elementals and the Scalekeeper ran from person to person (clerics and enchanters first..), he could drop anyone in seconds.. I was charming an elemental and setting it against Yael and could see him running around me whacking everyone.. I was in awe he is truly a powerful Erudite. When it was my turn he ran at me, swung his sword and did his 1500 damage lifetap at the same time and just kept running because I was already dead. I think he is too high to mez using normal enchanter mezzes, need to use Glamour of Kintaz which none of the enchanters on the raid had =(
Killed him tonight
# May 05 2001 at 4:25 AM Rating: Decent
Took him down to chinatown tonight. Loot was:

Red Scale
and
Rusty Throneblade.

Oh, and by the way, he can be up WITH Master Yael. Why? Because we smacked Yael down right after.

What I want to know is what the sword is for? Has anyone figured this out? Stats sucked on it as I remember... I'll take a screenshot and post it on allakhazam's.

There is a Gnome, in Lfay, near the gnomish houses that mentions Nortlav. I assumed he was a gnomish warrior of some sort...might try giving him the sword. When hailed, the gnome emotes "***** wonders if (your name here) is looking for the scalekeeper" or something similar.
White Scale: just a rumor?
# May 04 2001 at 4:55 PM Rating: Default
I keep seeing on different EQ sites that this guy drops White Dragon Scales, but upon further reading I've never heard anyone say that they _personally_ have seen him drop a white scale. It's all been wishful thinking as far as I can tell.

So has anyone here actually GOTTEN a white scale from Nortlav?
strategy
# May 03 2001 at 10:19 PM Rating: Default
I was on a raid on povar, and we killed him. He has alot more hp than VS but is very vulnerable to ice spells. His lifetap is no joke. We took him down w/ alot of warriors using the bezerk disc, but he managed to kill alot of them. We only got a red scale the time he died. From what I saw, when Yael is killed, he spawns in the place yael is. He will aggro if elementals, golems, or fiends aggro the party. Also, he will kill ratman, he wiped out 5 of them in less than 30secs. Was entertaining to watch.
where he spawns
# Apr 07 2001 at 11:04 PM Rating: Default
he spawns in yael's room, off in a corner. i dont know what the deal is with him agroing on rock golem pulls. but it seems to be true. i found his true spawn point with my CR rogue. i was able to get down there at lvl 1 with sneak/hide
RE: where he spawns
# Apr 16 2001 at 10:23 AM Rating: Default
We bumped into him while rezzing people who didn't successfully jump off the waterfall. Wiped out an impressive roster of 5 full groups in seconds... I never even got to see what he looked like. And yes... at the time a rock golem was engaged by some people at the time.
Anyone have a strategy?
# Apr 05 2001 at 5:52 PM Rating: Default
I would like to take a shot at him but i cant think up a good strategy for him...any ideas?

plan a stratedgy for the zone area. it would be the easiest after all hes bugged and always ends up at the zone. we had to have a GM remove him the other day because he sat right at the zone in and would randomly summon ppl in our raid kill them then do nothing until 20 min later when he would pick another unsuspecting person to die again
