Soloed this guy, 70 rogue, epic 2.0, dropped the dragonslayer sword + scales.
Nasty...

He's pretty tough. Has a lifetap proc for 1500 and it went off 3 times in 5 secs against our puller (3000 hp). Killed him so fast that he didn't even get to our pile of people.

It gets worse. If you agro the mobs that will repop after 10 minutes, he will come running at you and kill everyone the mobs hit.

He needs to be killed with chain Rune spells and Cheals. Cheals might even be to slow cause of how fast he procs his 1500.

Really great fight though. We'll go back for him another day.

You say, 'Hail, Grynnaf Einoom'
Grynnaf Einoom looks at Pelorus and wonders if he is looking for the Scalekeeper

You say, 'I am looking for the scalekeeper'
Grynnaf Einoom says 'Ahh... Ye be lookin' for Nortlav then. Notlav is a strong fella. Ye dunna want to mess with the likes of him. He's known as a dragonslayer. I heard that he keeps the scales of the dragons he's slain. Yer not impressed eh? All the dragons he's killed have died by the blade of a [rusty weapon]

You say, 'Why a rusty weapon?'
Grynnaf Einoom says 'Aye, I dunno know why he does what he does. But every dragon he's killed died by the likes of a rusty weapon. I dunno where he is now, but I heard he can be found in the depths of Norrath, surrounded by darkness'

Couldn't get any more info out of him. Tried handing him the Rusted Thorneblade and he didn't respond. Got pissed so I wacked him (No faction hit) and took my sword back. He respawned a few minutes later. Would love to have any more info on this guy anyone can gather.

poss the son of edril, edril was an old elf warrior that roamed the lands, married an erudite woman that lived in qeynos called almaril. edril was the last to talk to trakanon. trak gave him a dragon pendant that was buried with him. edril was granted great power with the pendant. but died due to a broken heart when his son died at a young age of disease.

The Dragon Pendant
Each held by one of Trakanons Heroes, each scattered across Norrath. There is the Dragon Pendant of Edril the Lancer, the unknown gift of magic from Miragul, and the burning blade of Nalikor. The whereabouts as of this writing of the Pendant of Edril the Lancer seem yet unknown. There is but one thing that seems of note.

Edril the Lancer was said to have been buried within the depths of Lake Elizerain whose body lay in depths therein. The lake bordering upon the Steamfront Mountains of Faydwer. I came across a gnome by name of Grynnaf Einoom. Speaking with Grynnaf he fortold me of a dragonslayer whose known as Nortlav the Scalekeeper that could slay dragons with even the rustiest of weapons. He told to me that this scalekeeper of sorts was said to be lost somewhere surrounded by darkness.

Following my good senses I continued my search. I found this Nortlav deep within the Hole. Why was Nortlav the Scalekeeper in the hole? What was he doing so far from home? There has only been one other that was known for the power to slay such was none other then Edril the Lancer. It makes me wonder. Does Nortlav the Scalekeeper hold the pendant of Edril the Lancer?

If he is slaying dragons so easily as Edril then he must have of it or once had of it within his possession at the time he fought so many of Veeshan's children. Nortlav himself is an Erudite of an unknown profession. It is not proven but believed that he may be allied to the dragon Trakanon (Trakanon Faction). There may also be some connection as the wife of Edril's late wife Almaril was also an Erudite. It is also known that Nortlav the Scalekeeper carries a tome of unknown origins within his possession; the Book of Shadows.

In case someone stubles across this in the modern era, be it know that what is quoted here and all of the "codex" is fan fiction.

Nortlav was down there to avenge the deaths of his former heretics but he was slain by Master Yael. I suppose a Shadow Knight as strong as him could not truly pass into death and became undead.

In other lore isn't Nortlav suppost to slay the Sleeper? Or am I thinking of someone else? Maybe Mr. Bayle was suppost to slay him?

Still no one has tried it?

Heh come on, @ this level you can easily get much better weapons for your twinks... someone try turning it in to that gnome guy. =)

This sword is a legend. As the legend goes Nortlav the ScaleKeeper could slay even the mightest of dragons with rusty blades. This sword is assumingly that sword that slayed many dragons.

Yeah it's not useful but the lore behind this weapon is neato.

What is reward for the quest?
# Aug 23 2001 at 7:18 AM Rating: Decent
Hail kids!

I was given one of these on Veeshan server as part exchange for some spare Icetooth Claws I had. Anyone know any info about the quest this blade is for? What is the reward?

If this is a rusted one...

Then what would say a Fine Steel Throneblade be like? 35/45 and say triple the other stats?? The world may never know. And has anyone tried to polish it with Blacksmithing skill turning it into a Tarnished Throneblade? Just curious

You haven't heard the legend....
A gnome in Lesser Faydark tells of "the ScaleKeeper," a brave Knight who used only a Rusted weapon to slay the dragons and take their scales, and now only lives in the deepest, darkest of places.

BTW: This is a Rusted weapon, not Rusty weapon... you know how Verant can change a letter and totally throw off the patterns :)

#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 17 2001 at 12:54 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Hello all, this is my first post here. I am a level 24(almost back to 25) Shadow Knight wielding a Dark Reaver right now. This sword is awesome. I was wondering if I would be able to afford this if i had 300pp plus around 300pp in trade goods( my sword plus a sarnak emblazioned tabbard)? I am on nameless. if anyone either knows the price or wants to sell one for around that please let me know. Thank you.

[I am a level 24(almost back to 25) Shadow Knight wielding a Dark Reaver right now. This sword is awesome.]

This sword is awesome to level 24, but it takes way too much effort to kill this NPC for this sword. This NPC Lifetaps like VS (not as bad, but still difficult) and has a ton of HP.

Awesome to you at 24, junk to whatever group can kill this NPC.
#Anonymous, Posted: May 25 2001 at 10:24 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) This thing sucks with that big delay and all...

For a bard/warrior that can't do Nagafen, and has a hard time getting Talendor, this is a very nice option.

Sure the guy is hard, but he's not impossible. Also, this increases the amount of scales available per server, lowering the price, and making it easier for them to achieve this item.

Worth killing?

Hell yes.

You KNOW he's gonna drop at least 1 red scale, and he has a chance of dropping other scales as well.
Restrictions?
# May 10 2001 at 10:25 PM Rating: Default
Just wondering. What restrictions are there about killing nagafen?
RE: Restrictions?
# Jun 20 2001 at 1:28 PM Rating: Decent
Anyone 52+ that gets on naggys hate list is ported out of the zone. Same goes for Vox, which makes Paladin / Warrior epics more difficult. Hence, this spawn. Maybe they should consider haveing him drop the Fire Book as well. They look at the situation and say...

We need to make Warrior epics easier to get the scales... BUT, let the paladins rott when it comes to getting the book.

/shrug, it's a Vision(tm), what they see I am not aware.
RE: Restrictions?
# Feb 21 2004 at 11:35 PM Rating: Decent
Don't forget, Bards also need the red scales so this also is a problem for us also. I tried dropping Nagagen once with a raid and we wiped twice. Problem was we could only come up with 1 tank that was under the lvl restrictions. We got him to about 70pct b4 the only tank died, then cleaned us all up in about 30secs after that.
Little more info

I have this sword on the Vazaelle server. A level 52 warrior friend of mine gave it to me. It looks sweet, and although it has delay of 52, its beautiful weap at my level(29), I can sometimes get crits of 130 out of it with it averaging 60-80 per hit....I love this sword, just cuz I dont know anyone else who has it...It looks so cool, with a gem in the middle of the hilt. Anyways, latez....
#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 12 2001 at 6:48 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) man WTF was your strength at i get crits with a wurmslayer for 150+ at lvl 22 and my max crip is 189 i dont know how weak you are but you might wanna work on that man.

not worth of killing?
i quess that red scale were a quest component for a bp something like 21ac 20str and something else too, cant remember it right now....
RE: :P
# May 10 2001 at 2:55 PM Rating: Default
he drops dragon scales for epic quests for bards and warriors. he is definately worth killing!
#Anonymous, Posted: May 10 2001 at 2:56 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) We killed this guy a few nights ago, basicly a vs clone. life taps for 1500, hits for 250-300 has 2-3 times the HP vs dose. the kicker is he cant be stuned. so the tactics some guilds use for VS dont work. and end in one embarasing defeat.
RE: Sad.
# Jun 05 2001 at 11:44 PM Rating: Default
man, your obviously not a warrior or bard waiting on epic. IMO this is definitely worth it.

Wast of time huh ??? good luck for make spawn ragefire to get the red scale... You knew this scale is for a epic quest ??? prolly not if you think it not worth the time you past on him...
Hmm..not NO DROP
# May 10 2001 at 12:10 AM Rating: Default
Woulda thought someone would pick up on this. No, no one at this level would use this item (if not for quest), but it wouldn't be a bad mid-level weapon. /shrug (would have to try it first or see some logs on it)
this is the guy verant mentioned
# May 09 2001 at 4:59 PM Rating: Good
in one of the recent patches verant said that they were going to put in a mob in the hole that would drop red dragon scales in order to make the warrior epic more accesible to 52+ warriors who can't kill nagafen due to the restrictions. I'm guessing that the guy "who kills dragons with a rusty sword" is this NPC.
hmmm...
# May 09 2001 at 4:46 PM Rating: Decent
New gnome NPC talks about a dragon slayer that kills every dragon using a rusty blade....this guy drops dragon scales and a rusty sword....quest perhaps?

for as hard as this guy hits for, i was hoping for a better sword. pretty disapointing.
RE: at least it looks cool
# May 09 2001 at 5:42 PM Rating: Default
then heres what ya do-kill him and worry about the scales, not the sword-if you get the scales youll be one step closer to a REALLY nice sword.
