Seems just like other zones of the era, to get these to spawn, you need to run in a huge circle in the zone, killing anything that moves. I cleared the zone of the tundra kodiacs, next day none had respawned so I started this huge circle run around where Tain Hammerfost lies, got 3 of them in less than an hour on the FV server. I hope this helps.

This NPC MoB is necessary for the Rogue's 1.5 Epic, they need the HQ pelts/skins they are rumored to drop. Been farming them for 5 days now, and either they are rarely up at all (as per max Tracking with my Ranger) or when they are up, there are no skins on them at all. A rogue needs 2 (two) High Quality skins from these guys, and they are so rare as to be almost non-existent. I think if SoE is going to use them in an Epic quest, they should allow for a slightly higher spawn and drop rate. Not asking for it to be so commonplace that it disturbs the flavor of what an Epiq quest should be, but would like to have the HQ skins drop a *Little* more frequently, please.
[Rant On] The Rogue 1.5 is freaking ridiculous anyhow... way more tasks and necessary things to get... including those lousy Boar Carp, which cannot be gotten while Crushbone is now a revamped level 90 to 95 zone... What gives with that?? Any self-repecting rogue should be able to SoS their way into CB to do some fishing... ANYTIME !! And with no end in sight for CB to go back to Normal (definition please - ok sarcasm off too) this puts a further hold on trying to complete the quest also. Where in the zone (and I am referring to Kedge Keep, which is an underwater zone ??) can you *fish* for anything? No information is forthcoming on that either; they just say - somewhere. [Rant Off]
In this day and age, I know that getting Epic weapons is sort of passe` but being old school, and with a certain amount of pride in knowing that just about all of my 14 toons have theirs already, or are at least on the last few steps of their 2.0's, I would like to finish the Rogue's Epic 1.5 while I can still sit in a chair and not drool !!

My experience with this mob was completely different than any of the other posts here. I tried hunting the areas to the SW of the Giant Fort in Eastern Wastes and found just a few of them. But they were thicker than fleas on a dog due east of the Giant Fort. The first mob I knocked over had a HQ tundra kodiak pelt AND the tundra kodiak meet I was hunting. In the next five minutes, I killed eight in quick succession and found three more pieces of meat for the Coldain Shawl Quest #3.

the kodiaks in the caves around velks are not the tundra kodiaks. i have only been able to find a few tundra kodiaks around the entrance to EW from GD.
Boy how prices have changed over the years. I was running my Rng thru this zone on the way to WL the other day just randomly killing stuff when a guy told me if I found an HQ Kodiak Pelt he would give me 6Kpp for it, of course I spent the next 10 minutes tracking Kodiaks and killing them but only got Ruined or LQ Pelts, so I moved on.
But i was farming tundra kodiaks in EW recently and once i killed about 5 (no hq pelts from them )no more popped . so i started killing "tundra" mammoths only and after killing one a kodiak popped up on track ..Don't know if it was luck or i triggered it, will check again today.(the one that popped did have a hq pelt)

To raise Tailoring I suggest (# listed is the trivial): 15-Silk Thread (combine 2 spiderling silk). Farmed in ANY newbie zone, my favorite are EC, Misty and FoB (edge of sand & grass in Field of Bone). Save for Leatherpadding. 26-Patchwork armor (combine any ruined pelts and pattern). Farmed in most newbie areas. 31-Leatherpadding (combine LQ pelt with silk thread). Farmed in Marus Seru from Greyhoppers. Save the Greyhopper hides... 36-Raw Silk armor (silk swatch and pattern). 56-Studded armor (any MQ pelt, pattern and # of studs). 88-95 Greyhopperhide armor (combine any Greyhopperhide wtih pattern). Farmed in Marus Seru.
Those are just guidelines of what I seem to loot the most. Everyones loot, zone, and mobs are different and all your end loot will vary. Skip where you need to and when you have to, but one thing is for certain I am not spending 40pp per stack of something a merchant sells when I can master any character in Tailoring in 2 days at level 25 or higher. Plus, you can search te trivials yourself at: http://www.eqtraders.com/
I've been hunting these for the HQ pelts off and on for a few days. Their not that uncommon (the kodiaks that is) at certain times when I've played. But at 40 they are all LB to DB to me. The LB ones I can take out easily. But I'm shocked at how hard and fast the DB ones hit. I think I've only killed one or two DB ones, and the rest I've had to feign death to keep from getting killed, and that's with having a Mend up at the beginning of the fight and using it halfway through.
these guys are rare and the HQ pelt used for the coldain ring quest is even more rare. With me , 55 ranger 59 cleric and 40 beastlord we got all of 2 for 6 hours farming. dont know if any one can do better, was hard enough with ranger using track to find these bu**ers. from what i remember you need tailoring of 82 to succeed in the blanket
I just spent 3 hours in EW killing Tundra Kodiaks, at one point I went an hour without seeing a single kodiak. I started killin rabbits mammoths and whetever i could find thinking it might be a PH. After reading the post I guess you can say I'm relieved Im not the only one having Tundra Blues. But i now have most of all the drops for the other parts.
For those of you who would like to make the blanket, you can quickly raise your tailoring to 66 by combining two mandrake roots (Alchemy supply) in a tailoring kit. They cost about 42pp/stack with good CHA (over 107).
You can get your tailoring to 76 by combining the result of the above with Steel Boning (Smithing skill).
Merchants will not buy it. They say "I will give you absolutely nothing for" it. Sounds like a quest item but i haven't heard of any quests for it.
I also got a tundra kodiak paw today, same deal though. Wish i had the extra inventory slots to hang on to these but I'll have to drop them. I need a mule bad.
OK, today i was killing Ulthorks down by the Jail when i hear some guy shout he was buying HQ Tundra Kodiak Pelts for 2k! each. Anyways i went on a rampage all over the zone and killed about 30 kodiaks in 1 hour, got one pelt-REALLY REALLY BAD drop rate. I found most of the Kodiaks straight out from the IC Bridge, and when you are facing the rygorr fort entrance-to the left in those trees. There are also some near GD. The only pelt i got was from the fort area, which was where most Kodiaks spawned. My theory is to kill everything and that frees up the Kodiak spawn points. but IMHO VERY RARE.
Have hunted these repeatedly have gotten many hq pelts they are for the first coldain insignia ring quest and are becoming more desired all the time sold one for 500 and traded 2 for a sarnack warhammer at my guess going price depending on how bad someone wants it is between 500 and 1500 a pelt but that is only at guess but know some nice items have been traded for them
I walked all over EW today, and i could not find these guys for the life of me, have they been taken out, or they are in a certain spot i somehow missed?
When I first saw the Mighty Bear Paw in the Warrens, I was terrified... hehe, now I know where the Kobolds got him from & I can quad-kite these suckers all day...no longer terrified <grin>.

HQ Kodiak Pelts are a very rare drop. I've spent all of 43 to 45 in EW killing dire wolves, cougars, kodiaks, mammoths, and rinos, and I've only looted three in all that time. I used two of them for the ring quest, and I'm looking for a fourth to start up another ring (you can wear two of Garadain's rings, so long as they aren't the same ones.)
