Make them spawn

You can spawn them easily around -5050 -1200 by killing everything that moves in a medium circle. I got two in about 15 minutes.

Is this in the old zone or the new zone East Wastes, Zeixshi-Kar's Awakening?

Not uncommon, RARE
# Dec 08 2009 at 3:04 PM Rating: Default
I wiped out all the Kodiaks several times within a 5 hour time frame, never once got a High quality skin. I got several Ruined and Medium quality, but never saw a High. Went back the next day after a patch, tracked and killed every kodiak in the zone, and finally after another 6 hours, I got ONE high quality skin. Over 200 kills to get one, that RARE, not uncommon.

The damn trivial for the combine is NOT 41, i was 44 with a Geerlok Device and failed. WTB 2 on Prexus, send a tell to Vyle or email. Also Sabikkin or Failen. Thanks~

just because your skill is higher than the trivial doesnt mean you will be successful every attempt. i am 200 in baking and failed 3 fish rolls (135) in a row. if you pass the trivial, all that means is you cant skill up from doing that combine.
Spawn rate nerfed?

I think they've nerfed the spawn rate on the Tundra Kodiaks maybe, or possibly they have a place holder? I found 2 of them near the zone in from GD and then never found another one in about 1 hour of tracking most of the zone.

I have seen a lot of these mobs in the past in the central eastern part of the zone, east of the Ry'Gorr fort. Today I saw 0 on tracking after an hours time.

I hate to pay the 1300 pp each asking price in bazaar, but it looks like I will. This drop is positively the WORST part of the entire Ring Wars set of quests.

UPDATE: Ok, so after posting this I bought 2 of the HQ pelts in bazaar for 1k each. The next day (after a server reset) I was back in EW working on parts of the quest and the Kodiaks were all over the zone. So looks like the spawn was bugged, not nerfed.

Btw, I got 2 HQ pelts on about 15 kills so I was pretty lucky that day. Might save them for an alt to do the quest another time.

More like they were selectively hunted to extinction, as different mobs spawned to replace the kodiaks that were killed. You have to kill all the roamers you find to get more kodiaks to spawn.

Got lucky on FV bought one for 50pp the next up was going for a hideous 4k. I thought HQ Lion skin was dear but this is OTT. I found quite a few of these and they seem to pop all over. I was Pulling to the Sleeper Dragon where mobs don't pass a great place to pull anything to. I found most of these when I was chasing down walrus's for their hides. A few was by KD entrance too.

I spent several hours yesterday hunting in Easter Wastes and didn't even see a Kodiak. Does anyone have a rough idea as to where they might spawn?

BTW, paid 2k for one in the baz on Luclin. After a couple of hours, 2k seemed like a good deal.

Between the orc fort located in the middle of the Eastern Wastes and the bridge connecting EW to Iceclad has a ton of wandering mobs that move constantly in that area. Tundra kodiaks are very common there.
Must be really lucky

Wow I must really be lucky. I was looking for the meat and the first one I killed had meat and this.

Hunted for about 4 days on and off, found and killed 4 at a time (all pops in zone) then had to wait 10-15 minutes for each pop afterwards. Serious time sink.

These prices are a joke. Yes, if you're really lucky, you'll get them both real quick. Others hunt for days on end and get nothing. It's also extremely rare to find them in the bazaar. That's why my two are selling for 10K. you know why? if someone doesn't want to pay that (yes, i admit) outrageous price, then I'd just as soon save It for an alt. It would be too much trouble to hunt them again. Last time I had the first five parts of the quest all lined up, and it was all waiting on these crazy rare pelts. Hunted a lot of these things (and i'm a ranger so i can track them), and in all my hunts got one single hq pelt. the others i managed to find deals on in the bazaar by people who obviously didn't know what it was worth.

say what you like, but... this are probably worth 5k each. the fact that i won't part with mine for less than 10k each just indicates how much of a pain the but it is to hunt them down.
Rare indeeed

I'm working on my 100th kodiak, and nothing but medium and ruined pelts. I'm starting to wonder if they don't drop anymore. Buying them is starting to look like a really good option, and 1K wouldn't be out of range considering the drop rate. All that means is that anyone even wanting to start this quest has to be really serious about it. Unlike the shawl quest, you can't pick up drops for 5 or 10 pp each in the Bazaar or kill a few dozen to do the first turn-in or two. These are even more rare than snow grif eggs.

out of about 100 kills 1 has dropped for me, very rare.

I looted one today off my 3rd kill. They do indeed still drop.
That rare? That expensive?
# Apr 15 2003 at 4:59 PM Rating: Decent
I find these things quite expensive - and I honnestly don't know why. They don't seem to be used for many things except the blanket and they are not that rare. Looted up 3 of them in my first two or three hours in the eastern wastes and didn't activelly hunt the kodiaks. Just killed anything I saw that I could solo.

i too was not actively hunting for these pelts, just for meat for shawl 3.

isn't that always the way ... the guys who are hunting them never find 'em, whereas us who are just killing here and there happen to pick them up.. i picked up one in the last hour just now
