I'd say these were common/uncommon. The Kodiak Pelt (large race cape) is slightly less common than these.
as a 39 cleric I was hunting the Kodiak caves with a revolving group and started picking these (claws and pelts) up to clear the corpses. I'm going to give a Claw to my 15 ranger (about to get dual wield, needed a companion 1hs to berserkers sword) and kept 2 more to check vendor value. also got 2 pelts but after that I just destroyed everything else.

These are no longer monk usable. Originally were, but within about 2 patches they changed it. Not that it seemed interested in letting monks have 1hs skill go up by using them. Also you used to be able to equip these in both primary and secondary slots, but they nerfed that too.
monk????

#REDACTED, Posted: Sep 01 2001 at 5:27 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Ummm..ya..These suck who cares if there a majic item and even tho claws do look cool they still suck....theres dmf is weak and the dly is way to slow.
#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 01 2001 at 6:46 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Yup! My rusty short sword beats the crap out of these!
RE: These SUCK!!!
# Sep 11 2001 at 4:54 AM Rating: Default
These are for low level players you moron, if you dont like them then DONT USE THEM.
Newb stuff
# Jul 31 2001 at 7:34 AM Rating: Decent
Gotta say that while these are not what I would put on my Char (Especially after getting at least 2 pairs of Icetooths claws at various points...)
However you should have seen the reaction this newb warrior had when I dumped these and a set of banded and shield on him at level 1...

Heh Best part of being high level is the random acts of omnipotent benevilence...

Sarnak Eitchatkas arent that great
# Jul 14 2001 at 10:07 AM Rating: Default
For everybody out there that wanted a pair of claws, Stormfeather Talons are a lot better than Sarnak Eitchatkas but are worth about 2kpp. Stormfeather a named snow griffin in iceclad drops them. Hes about lvl 35. He hits pretty hard though.

Not to mention he is on a 16-18 hour spawn table and does not seem to spawn everytime, easy eh?

#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 13 2001 at 9:25 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) there is really no difference between 20pp and 47pp. They are both chump change.
#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 17 2001 at 5:10 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) so you're saying I'm a chump?
#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 07 2001 at 3:27 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Yeah I have a monk named Blaubear on the bristlebane server and I would like to buy 2 og these claws.
no claws primary
# Jun 05 2001 at 6:38 AM Rating: Decent
I don't think (correct me if i am wrong please) that ANY claws may be used in the secondary hand slot. I have Kodiak and Icetooth, and they are both primary only.
RE: no claws primary
# May 24 2003 at 3:43 PM Rating: Decent
Sure they aren't great by any means, but fungal fiend dewclaws are primary, secondary, and range, and easier to get that the Kodiak ones..

yes there are secondary claws available although i myself havnt seen them /auc'ed very often so I wish you good luck on finding a pair.
They are the Sarnak Eitchatka (Sarnak spellings are weird, so im not sure i spelled it right :)
You'll have to check the stats yourself :)

Update: There are also some very nice Talons which have better stats and are offhand as well which people may be interested in if they want to achieve the cool Wolverine look :)
good early weapon

probably one of the first magic weapons non-warrior melee and hybrid classes will see, good for fighting those pesky wisps

My friend that I met let me use this weapon for a while and it was strong and fast so i bought one myself and I LOVE this Item
Very nice
# May 02 2001 at 12:13 PM Rating: Decent
While you might not all agree with me, I just bought one of these at 13th for 30pp, and it's a very nice weapon IMHO. Far from perfect, but it sure looks cool :-)
not only drop
# Mar 12 2001 at 10:45 PM Rating: Default
My wife looted two in a row in Misty Thicket when she was level 9ish off of 3 goblins. Third goblin made it to the gaurds running away before she could finish him off. Must be a VERY RARE spawn on the goblins....

These don't drop off Gobbos in Misty, unfortunately.

*Smiles at the thought of hundreds of clawed halflings running around*

What most likely happened was a druid hunting GD had a few on him, and rather than endure a "gimme-storm" by announcing he/she was giving them away, just gave them to the first mobs they saw. There's frankly no market for these in GD (Icetooth's Claws drop there as well, and why have these when Icetooth's are available?), and it sounds like something I would do myself.
Inventory slot
# Feb 19 2001 at 3:06 AM Rating: Default
I looted some of these today and they are only used in the primary hand slot. It can no longer be use for either melee slot.

Yes, very depressing after trying so long to get a set...
No Longer Monk Usable
# Feb 10 2001 at 8:29 PM Rating: Decent
Had one of these in the bank and when I checked it yesterday, MNK had been removed from the Classes list. I confirmed this later when we were fighting kodiaks and another dropped. Sorry fellow monks, no more "cool looking claws" for us!
Doesn't just drop on Bloodmaw
# Jan 22 2001 at 11:13 PM Rating: Default
These also drop on "regular" Kodiacs in the caves.
primary/secondary
# Dec 26 2000 at 3:08 PM Rating: Default
Yep, the last patch added a new line, one that identifies whether the weapon can be in the primary hand only or either melee. These must be one of them, and the picture must be pre-patch.
Primary slot only
# Dec 26 2000 at 6:05 AM Rating: Decent
I have a few of these that I bought for a friend and they can't be equiped in the off hand. They say Primary. That screenshot up there is wrong... my guess is the weapon was modified after he took that. *shrug* Anyway, thought you would like to know.
monks wont get 1hs skill
# Dec 09 2000 at 1:21 AM Rating: Default
classes have been given weapons that they dont have skill for, paladins get to use the fishing spear i think, lots of examples, thats the one that came to mind though. skill would just stay at 1, or 0, not sure how that works, oh well. would be cool to have just for looks, but i wouldnt want to fight with it.
RE: monks wont get 1hs skill
# Dec 22 2000 at 2:13 AM Rating: Default
Yeah sorta like how they put in the 2handed slasher for rogues <see Rantho Rapier>
RE: monks wont get 1hs skill
# Jan 09 2001 at 6:39 AM Rating: Decent
hmmm...just fyi...paladins do have a piercing skill (was added in NOV or earlier if I remember correctly)...the idea is 2hp (2 hand piercing) for the likes of Lances or javelins, ad nauseum...my paladin (even tho only 16 seasons) will prob NEVER develop his piercing skill as I haven't read/heard/seen a piercing weapon better than some almost common 1hs or 2hs weaps...and if monks don't already have 1hs (sorry don't personally know anyone that plays a monk as primary or secondary char) I'll be shocked...as posted below, it just makes sense that they could use claws...(see Enter the Dragon-Bruce Lee for references (if I got the wrong movie, someone just remind me of the right name, but I'm pretty sure that's the one with the claws)

Monk can wear
# Dec 08 2000 at 12:01 PM Rating: Default
I killed a kodiak bear, wasnt named and had it on him. Im a monk and i can wear it but it is primary only so you wont need a pair.
RE: Monk can wear
# Dec 08 2000 at 7:34 PM Rating: Decent
So this only goes in primary weapons slot? So you could not have Thulen claws and thes claws? Also what claws do fit in the secondary slot?
RE: Monk can wear
# Feb 03 2001 at 8:31 PM Rating: Default
a set of claws that are off hand only is a Sarnak Eitchatka found in Kunark

This droped from a named bear in the cave, forgot its name. That bear has crap load of HP! took it down after 3 hrs of DoT kiting it. 1 starfire = 1 pixel of his life.

All cave kodiaks have a chance of dropping these. I got a pair off a feral cave kodiak at the entrance to Bloodmaw's cave.
1hs monk
# Dec 07 2000 at 11:06 PM Rating: Default
ummm.. Why is it a monk gets a 1hs weapon. The concept of a monk with claws is pretty cool, but not very monk-esque. Probably a database error on VI's part.

Fighting claws are very in character for the monk. Look at some of the eastern disciplines which seem to be the basis for this class. I'm surpised we haven't been allowed something like this before. Tiger/eagle strike would be much more effective if we had actual claws.

Now the question is, will Verant remember to give us 1hs to use them?

i dont care i still want a pair for looks sake :)
screw these
