I think any spider can be the place holder. I started out just killing the spiders by the web to the south. After 2+ hours, she spawns and was a roamer.
Took me less than 2 hours total to spawn the widow. I went the the strategies below and killed the spiders listed on map near skeletons and the rotting skelly VP key mob. NE portion of the zone.
Duo with enchanter/druid it was a really easy kill at level 50 however she did have quite a few HPs. You will want her solo unless you can manage the adds with some form of CC.
Somehow it double posted..but adding on the secondary item with Extended Range III dropped first kill and it is visible in her hand. GBS graphic.
The level has to be wrong. It's funny, but I was in on a 66 chanter this morning and was able to DC this. DC caps at 46, but she was lt blue to me, which I believe is wrong. Should be green to a 66.
Oh, and based on my 1100pt nuke doing 10% of her health, she's got about 11000 hps, which nakes her ideal.
u contradict urself ... u DC'ed her and that means she's 46- ... but she's LB to u instead of green ... hmmmmm ... maybe the greens u saw before are 45's?
Killed her last nite as 46 pally with a 45 shaman(good duo btw). hit me immediately with a 611 harm touch. also got feared twice, has a lot of hps and probably taps, resisted a lot, especially roots. took all shammys mana and a LOH by me, but we did it. ooc'd the thyxl drop, and a thankful wizzy picked it up, free loot for him, fun fight though.
Ok. Took my 65 Druid there to try this guy/girl out. I needed the gems for a GM trophy for my level 38 Mag. Spent about 2.5 hours a day for 3 days clearing camps. No Spawn.
Stopped in today and it was up. Took him out easy. It droped Drachnid Thyxl so I camped and ran my Lvl 30 Necro there as fast as is short legs could take him. I got there and no corpse. I Wizard running by looted the item before I got back. I gave him gratz, not like I had told anyone about it.
Camped the necro on the hill and took a 2 hour break. Logged the druid back in and cleared both spider camps in the south. When I came back to the South East spider camp the first spawn was this spider. but not LB, this one was DB at lvl 65. no big deal. Killed his pet and ran him to the camp spot of the necro, killed and camped. It had the same item on it again. Got the item and gated.
The Drachnid Thyxl seems to be a common drop from it and the gems not so common. Will update any new info I get later
When I was on my 34 Enchanter, I zoned into DL to see if I could get some nice exp! Little did I know that the dread widow likes to wait at the FV zone! I quickly zoned back to FV and was about to log on my 65 monk, when I did a ctrl+w (which lists everyone in the zone). I saw there was a 65 ranger in the zone, so I sent a tell to him asking if he would kill this spider for me. He said he would and then we grouped up and zoned into DL. We both invised and then he tracked the spider. It was over by the spider webs on the mountainside. He started killing it and it took about 3 minutes. It must have had a ton of HP! Then he killed the pet and that took ... 5 seconds. I looted the spider and there was my prescious little ER3 item! I said TY and went along my merry little way.
I was bored so I decided to camp the dread widow with my 55 warrior to see if I could take her and get a nice drop for my necro camped at the FV zone line. It wasn't too bad of a camp. Pulled singles using my bellow disc and I was able to take out 1 wave of spawns and then I could regen back to full health before the next wave spawned (with regen3 and improved regen from the patch). First day I tried this, I camped it for 3-4 hours with no spawn. Second day I tried, she spawned after about 1 hour. I pulled her to the FV zone line, and luckily she only landed 1 fear on me which lasted no more than 1 tick (mainly due to my resistant disc I activated at the beginning). Used Sword of Bloodsworn & Copper Hammer of Striking, along with my Perfect Focus disc and Defensive disc once resistant deactivated. I was able to kill her with 30% health remaining. My necro loves it because it gives him those couple extra steps he needs from a mob when soloing :)
I fought this mob for a while with a 51 WAR. Actually zoned 3 times before killing the mob. First time, mob had pet up and DS on, had to use the 2HB weapon, kited with bow for a while, then zoned. Sat down and healed (new sit and heal rules help). Went back in mob has up to 95% health, no pet but DS still on. Go beat up and zoned, healed and went back. This time mob at 80% health, no DS, switch back to 2x 1HS, zoned at 13% health with mob at 20%, sit heal, when returned mob at 65%, killed it this time. Dropped 2x silks and ERIII item, OOC'd it. For the record I had 4600hp and AC 1050, all buffed up, got feared 3 times. Tough mob, but a bored persistent lvl 51 warrior can take it down.
I zoned into DL from Fv and the Dread Widow was just standing there waiting for me. Apparently was trained by someone. Kinda funny seeing a skelly pet with a DL spider. Anyway i had never seen this mob b 4 and it conned light blue to me (65 Warrior). Killed her pretty easy. Just had a boat load of HP's. The second time I saw her I was clearing the three spider camps just to the right of the FV tunnel next to the skeletin ruins. She popped and this time she was dark blue. Not much more difficult that the light blue version. I resisted all her fears but did take a nuke or HT for 600ish. She dropped the ER3 item only. Sent a tell to a enchanter and let her loot it. I decided to stay there for a few hours and she seemed to pop once every three-four clearings and was mostly the dark blue version and dropped the ER3 item most of the time. Seems to be a common drop for her. Gratz to all the casters that got their new ER3 item =)
Well today my group found this little thing wandering around, noticed it conned red to most of us, and decided we were up for a challenge, this thing is super magic resistant, as a lvl 40 wizard the most i could get any nuke to land for was 117 damage, and most were resisted completely, and root was also impossible, but uckily we had a lvl 50 ranger in the group and the tanks were just able to H2H her dead with lots of help from the cleric, would have been impossible without the 50 ranger, not good for casters to take on solo, unless they are much higher level.
Zoning into DL from FV to OOC's of "TRAIN" 2 peeps run past me and zone, followed by 3 mobs (2 drachs and a drolvarg). Being prebuffed on my way to KC for some VS fun, decided to (as a 56 Warr) to take on the 3. Drolvarg drops in a flash, 1st drach even quicker, when I notice I am down to 70% health (having HOV and knowing I can easily take on the 3 expected mobs with little HP loss cause slight concern). As I target the drach, notice that it is a "dread widow", conned LB to me and took a few minutes to kill solo; TY to the shaman who popped in and rehasted me. Was an easy mob to take when I wasn't occupied with the other mobs. Only dropped web sack and silk, but must have had close to 8000 HP.
I spent about an hour today clearing all three spider spawn areas until she popped (I went there to give a shot at taking her down).
The first time I didn't do it properly, she feared me, and brought adds. My pet and myself went down in about a minute.
I came back for vengeance, and this time did it intelligently.. Screaming Terror on her spawn mate to pull her, pet on her, fear her pet, and then do the usual Dooming Darkness / Fear / Bond of Death / Ignite Blood routine. Both times fear wore off, she didn't bother casting and came straight at me (ignoring my pet). Refearing twice, and it was over. Easy.
I wouldn't do it before 49th level as a necro, but if you're smart in pulling her (and pulling her to an area where she won't fear through the other spiders and bring their wrath down upon you) it's simply done.
Was in DL soloing webs on north and south wall farming honey berry for tailoring. (60 Dru) Knew nothing about this spawn at the time.
Had cleared north webs .. moved to south and cleared them ... back to north ... onto south and she was up. Saw a skelly standing on a spider and thought how strange that was since I had never seen a spider with a pet. Dropped a wildfire on the pet ... he was down in one cast. Boy was she ticked. Suddenly I realize this spider is unlike the other mobs round the webs. :p Got her snared, dotted, etc. while chatting to a guildy bout this bug. She dies and I go bout my business.
My goal was not trying to get her to spawn, my goal was farming honey berry. After I saw the drop I moved some alts over thinking I might get lucky and she would spawn again. She spawned 5 times at the webs. Every time dropping the Drachnid Thyxl. One rotted (the first), one to my mage, one to my necro, one to a wizzy friend, and got one for another wizzy.
Seems if your goal is to get her to spawn, just clear the webs. She seemed to spawn every other cycle. She spawned at the north webs and the south. Coulda just been this day that it worked that this worked. /shrug
I spent 7 hours and change camping the "Rotting" skeleton for VP key piece today, and was keeping the drachnid camp cleared just west of his location farming silk for tailoring.
The Dread Widow only popped once in that 7+ hours of constant spider genocide (65 druid, 100 AAs, big nuke spells).
Dooming Darkness- resisted Invoke Fear - Landed Splurt - Landed EB- Resisted BoD- Landed Drain Soul- landed Twice She feared me She feared pet Refeared her Drain soul again Pet finished the dance )
She dropped the Thyxl
Thyxl is nice but the 3 stone weight is a bit too much for a skinny DE. But Ill manage )
* she resisted Clinging Darkness (my 1.2 second pull-snare) * her wuss pet engaged my necro pet (from the level 53 spell) and died within 10 seconds * while the pets were playing she closed the distance with and HT'd me, also getting in two melee strikes for 12 and 47 before... * she was hit by Invoke Fear * she was hit by Clinging Darkness * my pet commenced to beating on her * she was hit by Dooming Darkness * she was hit by Bond of Death * she was hit by Splurt * she resisted Envenomed Bolt * she was refeared and resnared as needed until dead and I got my Drachnid Thyxl as planned.
Notes * at level 54 she only resisted my initial cast of Clinging Darkness and my Envenomed Bolt spell - but drachnids probably have high poison resistance * her HT did 611 -- based on other posts I'm assuming she was the level 48-49 version * her pet was a wuss -- I hadn't even started worrying about my pet yet when he came running up after dispatching hers * she had about as much life as an Elder Wyvern in Skyfire Mountains, but lasted a bit longer than one because she wouldn't consistently fearpath in one direction so his backstabs could land (probably because of the zone) * I'd hunted her off and on for over a week as a younger Dreadlands killing machine and never found her once, she seems to be a very rare spawn indeed * she was stationary within the south-most group of 2 dracnids on the actual webs, in the Southeast corner of Dreadlands -- based on other posts I think it's likely she spawns there and sits there unless provoked
Closing note- unless you are going to be hunting drachnids anyhow I recommend you have a guildie that can track look for her every once in a while instead of plowing through hundreds of spiders.
I let a 46 warrior eat her HT and kited her around while he beat on her. I cant say for sure what dmag the Warr did but I myself pumped 9669 dmg in to her. Red to 46, blue to 60.
yellow to 49 nec, i met her at 3/4 hp right after she killed a 47 wiz =\. not too hard with fm but had about 5k hp left in her. didnt see any HT but maybe the wiz took it :o
I'd assume her HPs vary if her level does. Both times my group fought her, she had in the rough area of 8000 HP.
We killed all the spiders at the webs just West of the frontier mountains tunnel, and both times she spawned was at the web closest to the zone wall. The first time she popped was about 40 minutes into camping the area, the second time was after about 8 more hours.
She dropped the Thyxl and some misc generic spider loot (silk, leg tip, poison sac, etc..) both times.

Posted:Aug 27 2002 at 1:33 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Nothing is more irritating than reading through an entire history on a mob, spawn locations, etc. And having just about every post say something like, "oh, she has a lot of HP." What the hell is a lot? A lot of HP to players in their upper 40's, is not necessarily a lot of HP to someone that is Lvl 60.
the other night we ( a 46 monk, a 45 shaman ( me ) and a 38 ranger tangled with this beast. Im not sure where she came from, she seemed to spawn on top of us to the left of the tunnel to FM ( the place we were pulling to ). We were already engaged and not at full when i tried to slow her with Togor's not even bothering to con her. Well it was resisted and she made a beeline to me. I ran around a bit while the group dealt with a cockatrice. after that was dispatched they came to my aid. I was at 2 bubbles and poisoned but VERY fortunately didnt get snared, feared or HT'ed as i would have died. I got the 2nd slow to stick on her.. I then conned her and she was red to me...a second later the monk said it was red to him as well making this the level 49 version. We fought it for a while and my slow wore off..i got her slowed again ( 1st attempt ) and we finally killed her right in front of the tunnel entry. The monk eventually had to FD as i ran oom and the ranger was at full health--she tanked it for a bit and then the monk got up reealizing it was dead. I didnt realize till i read this page that this mob can HT for 700+ and also may have a pet--which makes me think she spawned on top of us and didnt have time to summon a pet before she attacked me....Very nice victory although that INT no drop item sadly decayed with the corpse as the rangers alt couldnt get there in time.
I just solo'd this mob a little while ago. It was a total butt whoopin but I can see how this mob could be tough at lower lvls. She just happened to be at the FV tunnel when I was passing through so I darkened her and feared her and began to whack away on her. She has quite a few hp's but I didn't give her any chances to dot me up. I darkened her 3 times and feared her 5 times. The dot from narandi's helped a good bit too. An enchanter guildmate of mine came and helped me finish her off. I could have done it myself but I was glad he was around to loot the caster item. She was still dark blue to me at 58 though.
Was fitghting at SE ruins in DL when the Dread Widow suddenly jumped me. Me beeing a Wizard and tank and healer was bussy i died after a few hits. Luckily i had bound myself at nwall so i raturend quickley and join the fight. We used bout 5 mins to get her and her pet down and she dropped a nifty 5int 40mana 10sv magic nodrop int caster secondary item. Besides me getting killed we had no problems taking her, and our highest was 43.
