I got word that it drops of of these elementals (in lavastorm) as well as the ones in sol-a. I haven't had a chance to verify this yet. Has anyone seen them drop essence of fire?

I finally got one to drop last night so they will drop. However these mobs do have a gang up mentality (well i think they do) so i'd suggesting pulling close to a wall or the zone to cut down on unwanted aggro

-Well I have killed 100s of elementals in Lavastorm and none.
-killed bout 30 in Najena and got 2
-only killed a few in Eurd's Xing cause they are a pain to get to pop
So the place with the most fire elementals drops no lava rocks not too sure bout Eurd's Xing and it took almost 8 hours camping elementals in Najena for those 30 to pop.

LOL, they haven't updated this page since luclin came out, that isn't what the elementals look like anymore so they need to change it

When a giant mob is chasing you and you cant take them all, all you have to do is run around with a SoW, until the boat starts to pull up. Jump onto the boat and everything that was chasing you will forget you even existed. Just a tip I learned from soloing.

It may have been mentioned but to get the fire elementals to spawn in Erud's Crossing you must kill the Kerran Beetles.

Killing them can also cause Island Madmen to spawn, they are casters just like the desert Madmen in Oasis and No Ro.

Be warned that killing the beetles will cause the local island kitties to aggro as they seem to like the little buggers. hope this helps.

These load rarely but do load. I believe the guy in the crater kills them on sight, i've seen them being ruled by him, but i've killed quite a few of them, usually they were lower than level 13, but one time it con'd red, killed both me and my cleric ;( usually pretty tame though. the dude in the crater also will kill any type of undead, except bat's pets, he's pretty mean to those mobs he hates.
Where and When??
# Nov 06 2001 at 7:50 PM Rating: Default
Please forgive my ignorance but when and where do these ever spawn??? I've made about a dozen trips to Erud's Crossing now and not once have i ever seen one of these.
Perhaps i'm here at the wrong time but at least 10 wrong times. Any info would be helpful, just to have for reference if nothing else.

I've only ever seen lava rocks drop in Najena and Skyfire. From Najena the fire elementals, in Skyfire the drakes and wyverns drop them. After killing hundreds of fire elementals in Lavastorm (and no rocks), I'd guess only Najena. Although I haven't yet tried the fire elementals in Erud's Crossing, has anyone else?
Druid Tactics

I'm a level 14 Druid and just got Expulse Summoned. Should I go to lavastorm to hunt the elementals? Ex.Summoned does a LOT of damage compaired to my other spells, so should I be able to kill yellows and reds?

how would i get to lava storm without being slaughtered by iroon guardians im a lvl 8 high elf enchanter

I would go to Lavastorm and hunt there until 17, that's what I did and what I've heard others say. Also your summoned line of spells works on the elementals, the lava duct crawlers(snakes), fire imps and fire sprites there. Though to be honest the fire drakes and rock dervishes seem to be easier for the level they are.

Fire Elemental above lev 17
# Apr 09 2001 at 7:55 AM Rating: Decent
A few weeks ago I was on Erud's Crossing killing basically anything that moved (for those that don't know, killing snakes/spiders/etc causes other, nastier stuff to spawn) and I got a few of the normal stock standard fire elementals to spawn, then out of the blue comes this huge *** fire elemental that conned high blue to me at level 27. Needless to say I crapped myself then killed it. Typically, it dropped nothing.

#Anonymous, Posted: Mar 27 2001 at 7:35 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Wow - what's so great about lava rocks? I'm on Xev tooo and can occasionally take down the odd fire elemental in the Lavestorm Mts - send me a tell in game and I'll happily sell any I can get hold of.

Lavarocks are used in dwarven cultural smithing. I have only ever gotten one so far and that was in auction. Apprently it was gotten off a fire giant in naggies lair.

As a rare these things drop lava rocks for dwarven racial smithing. So don't sell it or toss it give to your local smith.

Damage Shield
# Nov 10 2000 at 2:12 AM Rating: Default
The first time I tried to solo a blue one I had two bubbles of HP left at the end... now I had been destroying blue things so I went back and checked what was hitting me so hard... turns out it was the damage shield! The elem hit me (17 bard) for very little damage, but I took a TON from the damage shield because I had been spinning my two haste songs like I usually do. Next time I fought one I didn't melee at ALL. I had my mandolin out and played Chords-Boast-Boast-repeat. Killed it in no time, and lost much, much less health while doing it.
RE: Damage Shield
# Mar 27 2001 at 7:49 PM Rating: Default
It would appear that large melee weapons (read - halberd) can help you avoid some of the damage effects of the shield - my highly flame volnurable troll took very little damage from the fire sheild effect and he's only a 13th level Shadow Knight and totally untweaked.

RE: Damage Shield
# Aug 31 2001 at 4:15 PM Rating: Good
Its just simple math friend. With a Big 2 handed weapon (Lets say an executioners ax for fun 25/50 2.0 ratio) you swing and hit that elemental for 50 points of damage. You take 6 points of damage in the process from the Elemental's Damage Shield. Now, your buddy Dual wielding two one handed weapons with the same ratio lets say 10/20 swings and hits for 20 points now he has to hit that Elemental two and a half times to do that same amount of damage you do. So he is going to take that much more damage from the damage shield. (15 pints to your 6) It doesnt matter what the ratio of the weapon is with a Damage shield. The only way to avoid some of the effects is to hit less often for more damage.
Hope that makes things clear. good Luck and Good Hunting all,
