This is an example of what can make getting started in EQ so frustrating to a true noob. These comments are confusing because the name of this mob appears on more than one type of monster: one the low level skellies found all over the game world and the other a much higher level mob introduced in a recent expansion. They have the same name but obviously aren't the same mob. Allakhazam should treat these as separate entries and someone should reallocate posts to the appropriate threads.

My kid as a erudite toon doing training in toxulia. We must have killed about 80 of these things already and not ONE drop of any sort from any of the decaying skeletons. She needs a tibia to finish her armor and even she is getting frustrated. I can't believe they make it impossible to complete her quest. Anyone know anything about the Tox decaying skeletons?
Ok peeps, here's the deal. was 4boxing with my 66cleric, 70bst,67 necro, and 70war was tanking (read as =ebay ROXXOR, or i have no life). We started with a round of debuffs, skellie had the tank on the ropes, and cleric bot cast Cheal, then WARR turned on attack button and SPLAT, he died. Only dropped bonechips and a few silver for my group, but we sure feel powerful now!!! SOE should make it easier for me...err, folks to get decent stuff, this hunting and stuff is boring............(This is a joke. You are content with your government and your life.)

Somehow, we managed to take it down with only 48 people that were 65 to 70. It IS slowable, although it resisted many attempts. It flurried and rampaged and hit for around 800. Everything was going ok until we got a black wolf add, which caused our MT to die immediately. One of the chantys managed to mez the wolf finally, although by then we had lost most of the casters. We did finally bring both of them down, though. We had around 14/48 people left afterwards. The coveted rare bone chips didn't drop (Damn it!) although I did win the roll on the Ruined Wolf pelt. That will probably get me around 300k, so it wasn't a complete waste of time.
I will have to organize another raid, because I didn't get the bone chips I needed for my Epic 3.0. If anyone is interested on joining the raid, let me know. Although, I should warn you, I'm not responsible if you lose your corpse.

There are also Decaying Skeletons in Innothule Swamp. Other than that nothing new to add.

I was once hunting skellys with a lvl necro i think in paneil ...... every skelly i saw i used diseise cloud and ran off i sometimes i stopped to use it again on another skelly or maybe a lifetap its was sooooo fun and from that i got to lvl 3

You so have to be ub4r-ly equiped and a FG of 65's to take this bad boy out. Insanely hard... Hits for high 5's has like 30 hp. Crazy.
These things are so tough! I ran up to one and said hey bonehead come on I'll take you on, and it came and hit me! Well that wasn't too bad, I hit it back but it hit me again and it really hurt. So I ran and it kept hitting me from behind! It just wouldn't leave me alone! So my guildmate comes up and tries to hit it and it turns and kills him! Stay away from these things they scary, maybe like this Lady Vox I hear told about!

Hi. I'm a lvl 11 Enchantress and my pet killed a decaying skeleton (I can't remember if it was in Qeynos Hills or where it was). I usually get bone chips from the loot to take to Lashun Novashine in N Qeynos, but this time I got some Decaying Foot Bones. What are they used for?

Was goofing around in Innothule Swamp the other day, farming snake scales for my Lvl-19 Shaman and came across a bunch of these (a decaying skeleton). They dropped all the usual stuff when killed, but haven't come across anything unusual yet. While they conned GREEN to me, they were also "indiffernet" and did not attack, while the other types of skeletons were "ready to attack". When I hail "a decying skeleton", I get no response. Is there some quest in Innothule Swamp pertaining to "a decaying skeleton"?
I am almost 100% sure thatall Decaying skeletons are indeffent to everyone.

Since they recently patched my home forest of Nektulos, they've made these skellies even more annoying. They made them just as annoying as the lvl 5 skeletons, meaning they will allways chase you no matter what lvl you are :( I guess every skeleton no matter what it's called is very aggresive now in nektulos and will allways chase you no matter what lvl you are.

there's a bone chip quest in field of bone, just outside cabalis. and Qeynos has not one, but two bone chip quests, one in north, (lashum novashine), and one in south at the knights of thunder; guy's name starts with W.

I was in Gfay and i was hunting skeles and they hadthis weapon on it....s i killed it andit was a rusty Ulka (something like that)the stats where 6/44 +5 hp & +5 mana.... it is for monks and beastlords only hand to hand.

Another thing these drop is a rusty sythe, looks like a grim reaper staff. may suck at stats but if u got a black robe on and have that weapon on ya, looks like your a undead priest hehe

I took these guys to school just with my melee weapon. I didn't even have to use my spells. Whenever I get angry I just target practice on a skellie. It's fun =)

No its true im a lvl three gnome necro and it conned red to me. ive had tons if chars all over norrath and have never seen a decaying skeleton thats conned red soo even i didnt beleave it but its true

Yeah my guild did a decaying skeleton raid the other night. These are tough mobs, I would suggest at least 5 groups of lvl 1-2'sper skel.
Have the clerics, chain minor healing the tanks with druid and shamans minor healing also to keep the tanks hps up.
Have any rogues or monks do the dmg dealing, and remember to fully buff up before the raid "minor shielding".
Always have an evacer handing so they can shout" RUN AWAY" when everyone is in dire trouble.

Ive yet to start playing but it sounds like to me that except for the ones that are lvl 9 or whatever these things can be killed at entry level 1 right? I mean this might sound weird just wondering if when i start I should run from em lol.

Watch out for these guys they hit hard and fast. Im pretty sure they are resistant to most types of newbies.
Anyway here is what you should do...
As an iksar necro I always have minor shielding and lifetap memmed. What you should do is make sure you are fully buffed first (minor shielding), then pull the skel with your lifetap spell.
Then .. now this is the hardest part ...
Just stand there while it hits you as you have yet to figure out where the auto attack key is !!!
You have been slain by a decaying skeleton.
Returning to your home point.
LOADING PLEASE WAIT .....
