Got this in Bazaar for 100pp. I have about 273 int without kei so this is one awsome earring, and especialy for 100pp! Of course this will change with the new pop aa abilities to raise your max stat cap. Anyways after 200 int 65mana IS more than 10 int.
Over 255 Int or Wis...
# Sep 02 2002 at 10:30 AM Rating: Decent
It seems to me that a lot of people are meeting the 255 Wis and Int cap already... Add a KEI to that, and you've got a lot of people with more that 265 Wis or Int. This is really an earring for above the cap folks.

I'd happily lose 10 Int that isn't giving me *any mana for +65 mana.

OMG i cant really believe all these uber casters still havent found the real point of this ring .
The point is that u put the earring on when u med . As u have less 10 Wis/Int u have less mana obviously u take less time to med . After u are FM u just replace the earring for another and u are still FM !
The benefict is obvious u gained 10 Wis/Int worth of mana for free or even more depending if the earring that u normally use has Wis/Int or not .
Please tell me that i am wrong . After all i am just a dumb monk .

This is as silly as the dopey cleric I met the other day, who drank like a fish because he thought that he was regenning mana faster. Of course it SEEMS that way, if you shrink your mana pool next to nothing. And he wondered why he was always OOM. Same with this thing. Shrink your mana pool, and voom, "faster" regen. Guess what? I also regen faster with all my gear off. Then I put it on and have to sit and med again.

if you are at full health, and you put a STA item on, your health bar goes down cuz you gain a few hps, same with int/wis, if you add more int/wis, it will increase the amount of mana you can have, so then you have to med more to get to FM

You are right but you are wrong. The problem is when I remove the 10 wisdom plus the 3 on my ear to remove effectivly 13 wisdom. I med to full I replace my earrings back i then have to med up that mana as well. They have made it so that if I remove my armour and then put it back on I do not get the mana with it. I still have to med it up. So effectively it is not worth the time to switch my earrings and does not make the med time any faster.

With the new 255 cap on INT/WIS this earring still great. 65 mana = 10.9 INT if your INT is over 200, which it would be at the level you could attain this item.

You can also figure that most 55+ INT casters can max INT pretty easily. With my current gear and KEI I can keep my INT over 240 even with resist gear on, and I don't have nearly the best gear available.

By the time you are high enough to get this earring you will probably be wearing golden black sapphire earrings anyway so you are getting +30 mana more, the -10 INT is easy to make up in many other spot.

This is the 2nd highest +mana earring available to wizards so you can bet plenty of 55+ wizards would be wearing this if they had the opportunity to loot it.

OMG this is the stupidest thing Ive ever seen on a 50+ mob. With the new wis/int cap, this thing is like a cursed magic item, PUT IT DOWN!! lol

Ok, lets say you got 240 wisdom, cap is 255. You put this on. Lets assume level 50 to make things nice and easy. Mana = wis/~5 * level up to 200. Over 200 its now half of that. Total wisdom would now be 2000 + 40/5*50/2 = 200 extra wis for a total of 2200. Ok, put this thing on. Now you get 2000 + 30/5*50/2 = 2150 +65 = 2215. Now this ASSUMES you didnt take off a wisdom earring to put this on. Are you kidding me? 15 mana from a level 51 mob????? Why not add a gold black sapphire ear for a total of 2235 mana and no wis loss (adds 25 hp too)?

You guys are overlooking something.

Anyone over 200 wis (or 200 int) is already wearing Electrum Blue Diamond earrings. Those have +15 mana (I believe, I could be wrong). So let's say, I have 210 wis, and I am wearing a BD earring. I replace the BD earring with this PoS.

Wis drops to 200, resists all drop, net gain in mana? 40. 10 points for the 10 wis over 200, 15 from the BD earring. Net 40 mana and lose resists.

Who in their right mind would use this? Unless it had the effect of Flowing Thought IV (which it doesn't), I think they completely misnamed this thing.

Anyone thought of or tested out the possibility that this earring may help speed up meditation? There are legends, for instance, of the weeping wand (called a focus item in-game) and other foci aiding in channeling for int casters. Perhaps this earring has some sort of hidden effect to it such as making meditation go a couple of percent faster. I will probably never see a sweet item like this to test it in the near future, but I would be curious about this potential use.
# Nov 15 2001 at 1:50 PM Rating: Decent
This is a decent earring for certain classes in certain situations. But to fully judge its effectiveness you first have to consider that even if you are over 200 int/wis, 1 point in the stats will = 1 mana, so this earring really only gives 55 mana even if you are over 200. You also have to compare 55 mana to the earring you are currently using and decide if losing your current earring is worth 55 mana. For a necro, mage, or enchanter i dont think this is a great earring, since hp and mana are of about equal effectiveness for those classes. However, against a mob where resists aren't needed, such as vindicator, this earring is useful for wizards and clerics since 1 more CH or 1 more GB can mean the difference between winning and losing.

For those who wonder about the name...why, if it's about meditation (which in EQ would mean more mana?), would it take away INt/WIS?'s a thought...(I'm at a lack of words here, so bear with me) To meditate, you have to 'calm' your mind...drown out the "Mind Monkey" (that thing in your head that always says "is it working? doh", and screws up your "anti-concentration")..Meditation has to do with sometimes either concentrating on one object/idea/feeling/etc. to the point of thinking of nothing else, entirely...or...but simply trying to think of nothing at wear an earring that would keep the mind calm at all times, thus raising your amount of mental energy...let's call it "mana"'d have to give up a lot of mental resources to that task...perhaps the earring itself uses that 10INT or 10 WIS (each of which are important only to the casters that use them, right?) to gain control of that concentration, and strengthen your mental energy...hence the 10INT/WIS part of your mind is "in use" and therefore no longer accessable to the user....put on the earring, gain that concentration/mellowness/onewithonesselfness/etc and gain the extra energy/mana...take it off...and your mind *click* and you "wake up" with that extra mental "RAM" (if you will)...but the mana's gone....

or maybe I just thought about this too much -=P

I have tried meditating before, but my "Mind Monkey" is level 60, and nothing to be messed with -=P

that's my 2pp
Some info?
# Nov 14 2001 at 3:15 PM Rating: Decent
Maybe someone can fill me in... Mana is somewhat based on INT/WIS, but only to a maximum of 200? After that you recieve no more mana for extra INT / WIS? Also, how can you tell if that is the case, because mana is not listed in numeric for in game... I am sure that a level 50 + caster would not be able to see a 65 point difference in mana visibly on there mana bar. Can anyone clarify?
RE: Some info?
# Nov 18 2001 at 5:48 AM Rating: Decent
ok first once you reach 200 you only get one mana pt per int or wis depending on which you draw from. at level 50 you get about 10 mana per pt of int / wis till lvl 200 so a 205 wis would be 2005 mana.

As a druid I some low level spells. say 35-100pt of mana lol in a close fight every pt can count.

I am the one that sent this in and I got this as my level 54 Monk and only reason I got it was that no one else thought it was good for anything other than destroying. I agree with most of the posts in that it is a great earring if your Int/Wis is well over 200 already

Tis very good for me. My druid has 220 wis not including his earrings and this is only because I couldn't find anymore mana equip. Of course these earrings don't have any of the precious resists that are so needed at these higher lvls, but when kiting, something like these earrings are exactly what I have been looking for.
#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 13 2001 at 4:57 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) heh, if you can't get under 220 wis and you are a druid, you are an idiot...sorry to say it that way, but it is true. i guess what i am saying is, i don't believe you can't get under 220 wis.
not very good
# Nov 12 2001 at 7:09 PM Rating: Default
every 5 levels you get 1 mana per wis/int... at lvl 60 you get 12 mana from each wis/int... -10 wis/int would be -120 mana so not wearing anything in your ear is better than this if you are above lvl 35...

This is only true up to 200 in int or wis. Beyond 200, each point in int/wis = 1 mana. As a result, these become effectively +55 mana earrings, as long as the -10 int/wis does not drop you below 200.

Actually, beyond 200 INT/WIS each point is worth nothing. It's been tested.

How can you test that? Assuming lvl 50 and 200 mana thats a base mana pool of 2000. Even an extra 10 mana at 210 int only represents 0.5 % of your total mana pool, ie too small to be able to accurately judge. Screen resolution is such that judging the exact moment the mana bar has reached absolutely full is impossible.
Casting spells till empty wouldn't work either because you never know when specialisation skills will kick in.
As for Essar's comment below about testing at 200-203 wis, the fact that it fluctuated so much probably means something else is determining meditiation speed, are you sure when you swapped in more gear for the +wis you didn't add/remove an +mana item?
RE: not very good
# Nov 14 2001 at 1:46 PM Rating: Decent
Idea on how to test: Massively twink out a lv 1 druid with wisdom items. Presumably, you could tell the difference between how much mana a lv 1 druid has with 150 Wis, 200 Wis, and 250 Wis.

Or are there some Wis bonus limits for low level casters, like the damage limits for melees?
RE: not very good
# Nov 13 2001 at 6:48 PM Rating: Decent
Yep, that's true, but there are some things that get wierd when you go over 200 int/wis. From personal experience on my druid, with his wis at 201 it took him about 2 more minutes to med from empty to full, at 202 it was normal as if his wis was 200, and he meds faster at 203, going from empty to full 2 minutes faster. trying to find a way to get his wis to 204, 205, and 206 to do some more testing.

At the very high level, all casters have 210+ int. Unbuffed, my chanter has 213 int, buffed its over 225. So the negative int and wis affect me not in the slightest. AC 2 mana 65 isn't a bad earring, though I prefer the ac 2 hp 35 mana 25 of an electrum black sapphire...

I am currently trying to get rid of my pure int items. My int is crazy high... like 240s.... Aside from being lazy and poor, I still have some items that are just int. Once you realize that it is easy to get 200+ int/wis with easy to get high level gear, you start to look for resists and mana gear. I like BD(which it tres cher atm so i cant get it) but since my batskull earring I have on, just igves me a nice 5 mana since my int is over 200. I would gladly replace this earring. I may lose a total of 15int, which i can offord, but I would have a net gain of 40mana. Which is good.... last time I checked.... Personally I would have this earring until I could get that BD earring I want. My other ear has the everfont earring from Chardok, but it mage only so I wont mention it.

That's very true,

For every 1 int/wis above 200, you get one mana, period. So, you have 225 int (not as hard as it sounds) you have the mana for 200 int + 25 mana. You put this on (assuming your earring doesn't have int on it) you lost 10 mana from the int loss, but you gain 65 mana, so altogether you're UP 55 mana, not a trivial amount by any means.
# Nov 12 2001 at 6:19 PM Rating: Default
why call it a "meditation" item when it takes away int and wis?? doesnt that defeat the purpose of meditating?
RE: Why?
# Nov 15 2001 at 3:38 PM Rating: Decent
How about this idea: if you wear this and you do lose mana (not all of us have 200 int / wis) you will run out of mana more often, so you will have to meditate more often...
RE: Why?
# Nov 12 2001 at 8:39 PM Rating: Good
102 posts
The purpose of meditating (in-game) is to gain mana, not int or wis. This earring results in a positive net increase in mana, provided your int/wis is over 200 even after the -10 int/wis modifier is applied. Thus, you gain mana, and the earring holds true to type.

Heading off on a tangent, how much bearing do names really have on an item anyway? There are plenty of items from ToV with adjectives which have nothing to do with the stats given to them. Boots of Silent Striding, for example... do these boots let you sneak, etc.? Nope -- the effect is a self regen and atk buff. I would definitely like to see more names that made sense, given the stats and/or effect of the item.

I have roughly 230 wisdom on my cleric in normal gear which for me is all mana(+790 currently thnx blackstar). In resist gear i actually have more wisdom then my normal set up. I would consider wearing this because of the gain in mana although the other chardok earrings are nice as well with 35 hp/mana.

I use this item and think it is great. As a lvl 60 Erudite Wizard with good equipment the last thing I would have to worry about is my INT going below 200. It just will not happen. I even have the "Bracelet of Distortion", which is another -5 INT. I am looking for another one of these which will give me a total of -25 INT on the two earrings and bracelet and would still have plenty of INT to spare. I just which there were more of these items out there so it would actually pay off having started a character as a Pure wizard, which was 142int.

Can not remember the name it dropped from but I got it at the hut by the lake where the necro epic piece drops as well.
