I got one of these as a hand-me down for my Ogre SK when I was maybe lvl 18 or so. I am now lvl 46 and the damage on this thing is incredible. On a dk blue mob I can double for 125-130 ususally (160 max). Given my STR is generally 220 or so depending on buffs/other gear. I definitely recommend this as a tanking weap!
I quite dislike how SoE makes so many graphics mistakes. It would be almost impossible to use the blade in used as the graphic a 2hs, because the handle is only long enough for one hand.
Also, the blade used for Waki-Zashi(Correct spelling) and many Katana is in fact a Wabashi, also known as a Koshi-Gatana, or Piercing Sword.
Another thing, is that Japanese weapons were the finest ever crafted, if the stats were exact, a Fine Steel Katana would have 17/24, due to it's razor edge and selective temper.
The same issue applies to all the Bokken. Bokken were hard wood Katana, Waki-Zashi, and Tanto, thus they would be 1hb. Also, Bokken were never Bamboo, those were Shinai, a round straight practice sword, used as the first of four levels of Kendo(Shinai, Bokken, Blunt Bladed, and Live Bladed).
You know.....that was really great info. that being said maybe you should lighten up on the Developement team just a smidgen lol...not all of them are masters at any given form of martial arts. to most of them a katana is a sword. not different than any other and most have probably never seen them in RL. The names come from movies which have also mislead people to believe the names of different types of swords are what they are not. It's something you just have to deal with lol.
In all honesty, though, I think it's a fair post to make. Especially when using supposedly real equipment names such as the Japanese, Indian, Chinese, European, etc..., there should maybe be a bit more respect afforded to those cultures. Just a game? Great, use fantasy names or make up your own, like the Mithril goodies (always a good choice, gotta love that metal) or whatever... Thing is, really, if they started using just a few more original pieces instead of taking something from RL and adding stats to it, there'd be far fewer people griping about this kinda stuff and it'd have a more EQ-ish feel to it. ... This coming from a guy using Greenmist, whose graphic looks exactly the same as the wakizashis and I wouldn't want it changed at all lol... Anyway, just my 2 cents...

Posted:May 26 2004 at 11:39 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) crimeny...i suppose yet again the supposed American developers are disrespecting the rest of the world because they arent experts in chinese history. grow up. respect is earned, not owed, and just because you aren't a chinese or indian historian doesn't mean you are a biggot (foreigners like to read "American" here). The game designers can use whatever the hell names they want to and whatever graphic they want to. Its about the game experience, not whether or not people are Loremasters of world cultures in RL. Go back to liberal acadamia and learn to be tolerant of those who chose not to study history.
I thought the original post was a bit silly. It did seem like a vain attempt on the part of the author to demonstrate his arcane knowledge of ancient Japanese weapons.
That said, this response was just plain absurd. The suggestion that the author go back to 'liberal academia' identifies the writer as either a techno-barbarian or an uneducated troglodyte. I found the acidic call for tolerance particularly innane.
dont care what the graphic is on it....excellent weight for a 2hs....my guild got one off the prince last night but i lost the roll for it.....we'll be going back though as we need the cleric epic pieces...plus a couple chanter epic pieces one of which we got last night.
But seriously this is the gayest looking thing in the whole game. The graphic should be changed to the one on the velium swiftblade, which more resembles a katana.
i want one of these sooo bad im trading 2 centi longswords silver chitin handwraps a sarnak battle shield and 350pp for this on seventh hammer server if you want to trade with me send a tell to Gouku thats me but jesus tap dancing christ i been in bazaar for like 3 weeks and nobody has this thing grr that makes me want it even more
right on with the price and weap. got it about 2 weeks ago on Inny for 600pp, there was 4 for sell including this one and all the others where 4k+. Loving it aLOT!!!. hitting for mid 40s to mid 120s at lvl 36 for my SK. added Silver Chitin Hand Wraps and double attack and hes pretty much rock'en.
Real lazy of Verant not use a proper Katana Graphic for this, it is more like a (ninja)To than a Katana in shape and more the size of a Wakazashi...Probably the same idiot that though ******* swords should use the same graphic as a Short sword.
Agreed. Hardly any EQ weapons look like their RL counterparts. Two-handed swords should be a lot longer, katana/wakizashi/tanto should have a curve and look like actual metal instead of straight gray sticks, scythes used for combat aren't that tall, and scimitars have thinner blades than that. The list goes on and on.
Fun Fact: Ninja-to were never really used in ancient Japan. They were a creation of Hollywood directors trying to recreate the look of a katana. Ninja used katana just like samurai, they just wielded it differently
actually, you are wrong. the "ninja", usually nothing more than peasants who were payed by nobles to do dirty deeds, used a sword called a ninja-to, a blade manufactured in much the same way as european swords were, using a mold and cast instead of being hamered and folded like the katana, wakazashi, and tanto were. it wasn't a very weapon, but was sufficeint for it's job and extremely cheap and easy to make in comparison to the folded steel weapons of old japan.
I bought this on AB for 5K, and to me it was well worth it. The stats bonuses and weight make it truely an awesome piece to wield. When I search the bazaar I'm amazed to find the amount of nferior 2hs selling for more than this. And since I bought it, I have never seen it again. So I suppose I feel lucky, and I am definitely happy I decided to buy it.
Hey..wow all i can say, im on cazic looking to trade for it, dont got much still nice (im talking bout katana lol) my 2hs skill is for crap but i am also training wih a piece of S$$$ Throneblade ykesha, not that good for a skill of 32, id also trade for felhammer for the proc but I dont really give a flying rats a$$
Pariath Dziuk 20th warrior of almighty innoruk.
Oppas Anklenbighter 24 mage of Brell.
Incoming Dwarve I'm Ready for a massacre how bout you? Looks at his blade and thanks lord Innoruk May he have mercy on your worthless soul!
(My mage needs a darwin award so look out idiots here i come!)
Looks like i found a new 2hs weapon to try and get. Those of you who have it, does this fooker look like a katana when wielded? or does it look like the electrum bladed wakazachi like the graphic given in the picture above?
its the same as the graphic in the icon. like an electrum bladed wakazashi/wakazashi of the frozen skies. i was hoping that it would have the katana look but oh well.
It basically looks like a katana. Not sure how this URL thing works, but I've placed a picture of it vielded at http://www.tihlde.org/~erlendbm/eq/jinguran/pics/EQ000018.png
Yup looks exactly like a katana, nothing really special. At level 57 hit for 200 and disced holfyorge for a crit of 575. Though the argent protector has uber stats the .5 wt of this is just insane. 0 sta drain when fightwith mass mobs, and self-hasted without any haste items able to keep taunt quite well in a main tank situation.
I am delighted to submit the following information for your perusal and hope you find it useful. While camping Prince Selrach Di'Zok in the NEW Chardok for the enchanter epic quest, to our surprise he dropped not only the epic piece but also the Di'Zok Imperial Katana.
The Prince is a level 61mob w/about 25k hp, that can be mezzed. He has got an AoE that does considerable damage and he fluxed me w/this whirl til you hurl affect that tossed me to the ceiling and across the room 4 times. And yes this guys LOVES to summon you. I highly recommend you have MR well over 100 cause mine was 137 and I only resisted his cast about 50% of the time. His chamber contains over a dozen guards and/or golems so I recommend you try to single pull as many as you can to the outer court.
Rising Night Guild was the first guild to successfully get this new weapon on the Saryrn Server in the late hrs of October 23rd, 2001. Suzaka Raincaller was humbly awarded the privilege to be the first in the Realm of Norrath to wield its power. I dont know if this is a common drop for this boss mob or not, but I was told that OoP camped the prince the following day and the sword also dropped. This is by all stretch of the imagination an awesome weapon. My average damage output per stike now is 98-127, with the highest being 190/190 on the double attack. If I crank off a couple of stuns the damage out is unreal. Look Ma!!! Not only am I a holy knight that can take some damage, but now I can also deal 'a little bit' out. Happy hunting and I dont think you will be disappointed with this one.
Always,

Thank you Dinae (tactical genius) and 'Rising Nights'
my guild took this guy out when half of the tanks were on another mob, i missed seeing the prince at all, until i saw his corpse later...we didn't need MR buffs, and we only aoe'd maybe twice. The summon part really doesn't matter unless he can gate away, OR someone tries to run. I won the roll on this great katana, and i'm hitting around 150 with it with 164str. i've only had it for one night so i can't say thats my max hit...although i'm dying to hit a crippling blow with it. Now i just need SCHW to go with it =)
Kinolyen Numair 48 Warrior Clan of Unity Karana Server
Well, it doesnt matter who sent it in as long is it's now on the sight =)
I use this as my 2HS <Dark Elf Shadow Knight, Lvl 44> and I love it. Not only is the STR bonus GREAT for DE's, but the WEIGHT keeps us swinging almost as long as we can with Noct Blade <ie, forever>.
Common slash for me is 90-140 <146 max>, and I doubled with it on Reskin <trying it out> for 286 damage. Not bad for the boys in blue, lol <I know, that was a stupid one>.
Well, theres the skinny on it. Dont know if I was rambling or if there is any useful information in my post, just wanted to talk while at work, lol.
Have fun and, if your a Pally or Shadow Knight, get this if you can!

Posted:Oct 30 2001 at 8:08 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) That's not true. Neither is it true that if you stat a weapon you can't use, it'll say 0.
I tested that with a Rusty Halberd I looted off of a decaying skeleton, at level 50 it read: DMG Bonus: 10 Then when I put it in a trade window with my best friend, a 53 rogue. He told me it said DMG Bonus: 12 So it will not always display the same thing.
So you're telling me that the fact that my MotQ shows a damage bonus of 4, and my 2h-Practice Sword shows a damage bonus of 8 for my Level 40 Paladin is meaningless... right?
That's odd... 'cause I never hit for less than 15 points with the Practice Sword, since the patch.
"As many of you know, two-handed weapons are not doing comparable damage to dual wielded single-handed weapons. This problem really manifests itself in the high end game. Before level 50, two-handed weapons perform fairly well. The following two-handed weapon change applies to characters level 51 and higher-"
Gordon Wrinn Associate Producer EverQuest Live and Expansions Sony Online Entertainment
-------------------------------------------------
Then it is just odd. The Production Letter, and the Patch message both stated that the Two Hand Weapon change ONLY effect players over level 51.
Not sure excatly what you mean here. But if you mean that the damage bonus isn't level dependant your not correct. The bonus is indeed based upon level and delay of the weapon. All level 51'st characters will have the same bonus as will all 60th, however those bonus' will be different.
