Picked one up when I was doing my Ranger 1.5 last year (July 08) so it still drops. Yay for enduring breath fishing poles. Comes in handy when a big fish pulls you in off the shore.
Been hunting here now for a few weeks and I have yet to see one of these drop after killing ooodles of seahorses. Have gotten two seahorse belts so far, but no fishing pole. Not that I am worried about it, just reporting what I have noticed so far. Either they removed this from the drop table with the revamp or it is insanely rare now. That goes for the seashell with EB charges on it.. got one so far and none since. Go figure..
I have just read the following below and I was simply thinking who in their right mind would fish with this EB item? These items are hard enough to get and to risk breaking it is like unimaginable.. If people want to do fishing then do the Fishermans companion quest and receive a nice summonable fishing pole with a bonus to fishing + it summons ale.. What more can one ask for
I was hunting with my guild in SG.. they were a few higher lvls then me, I was just tagging along. Anyways one of these drops, and I get all giddy about this kind of crap because I got all my gear from auctioning and getting lucky... and little items like this always cheer me up... So in between poles I'd fish and bug the hell out of them saying how cool my new fishing rod is... and I'm just in a great ol' mood and it snaps. It just breaks on me, so I get this flashback of when I was hiking up a stream in the woods when I tripped and broke my new 100$ + Fishing rod and... yes I left the zone. Couldn't take it. Plus the fishing there sucks.
Fishing poles can actually break a lot. I have a char with fishing skills over 70 and she still breaks poles all the time. So no, if you want this item for the effect, don't fish with it.
It's a good idea to build your swimming skills anyway, regardless of whether or not you have access to enduring breath. Go swim in either Freeport, Butcherblock, or Halas. Neriak is good if you're a dark elf.
A rogue can improve 2 skills at one time if he/she wants to pick locks on the stone door to The Hole in the Paineel zone. Over time, and with patience, my 51 rogue maxxed his pick lock skill and is close to maxxing his swimming skill.
We've found several of these ancient fishing poles over the last couple weeks. They seem to be an uncommon drop from Coldspine Seahorses. We haven't been able to confirm that these still drop from Servant Swordfish.
The best thing I have noticed about this zone is that there are alot of items that drop that have EB as an effect. Also, although I am a monk it is good to see so many bard items drop somewhere. Finally a nice undercamped (for now ) zone.
Since when weilding this, you don't need to breath, could you have hotkey slots setup for inventory items, and when your breath runs out, you could quickly switch to this fishing pole, get a breath, and switch back?
He meant you hot key your melee slot and an inventory slot, then just switch the items in the Hot Key window without needing to open the inventory window. Bards do this all the time. :)
Not only is the effect permanent, and not triggered, but the pole also drops off more than just the swordfish. We had two drop tonight, one off a swordfish, I looted mine off a coldspine seahorse.
Another victim of the 'Woot triggerable EB!' joke khazam has played on so many.
Although the EB is nice, it's kind of useless to pure meleers. Too bad it's not triggered, I would have maybe thought about getting this, but, again, since it goes in my primary slot (where I need my primary weapon), I'll look for something else, fishbone earring maybe.
so we need to carry bait with us inorder for it to work? can we fish underwater? and does it catch anything different then shoes and rusty dagger? perhaps old tire?
It works exactly like a normal fishing pole. Not sure about breakage though, because I'm not gonna use mine to fish... The effect is incorrect on the description though. It is not triggerred. It is a full time effect when the fishing pole is equipped. Very nice alternative to the FB earring here.
Hey, I love fishing. Just got myself to master yesterday, and there's a lot of people in my guild who already mastered fishing. This would make me king of the fishermen, but it only works if you can actually fish with it, which I assume you can since you can't fight with it.

Good question. If it can be used to fish and if it can break (i dont know anyone who owns one) I would assume that the pole would be alot harder to break than its clearance isle brother :)
this would be perfect for a KK raid....no? And I too would like to know if you can use it for fishing...I've never fished, but from what the post near bottom says, you can break your fishing pole and that would suck if this broke.
Yes, why on earth would anyone use this item to fish hehe... if it can break... who cares if breakage chance is a low %, theres still a chance... and i seriously doubt you would catch anything different than normal... so if you have one of these, and you like to fish, please carry a regular fishin pole too )
According to the item picture description, It also give +75 HPs. So not only can you dive in and GRAB the fish you want, you can also take another couple hits from em too!

Well, some people (the real scary people) actually cares about other stuff than xp, loot, money and how uber anything is. Some like to sit by a virtual water's edge, fish and talk *********** like I do now.
