I am using this weap with some SCHW's on my 21 Ogre Berserker a like it a lot. Hits about mid 30s on average (although I have seen it go higher) and crits in the 70s region. My 2hs has gone up pretty fast (which is nice consdering my low DEX) and it keeps aggro pretty well. With this and my goranga spear I should be set for a while.
I was here last night trying to get the spectral caller to spawn, when I pulled a Dread Wraith from one of the stalls in the Western Stable area. He dropped the Ornate Rune Blade. I do not know if this is new due to the revamp of this zone (see patch notes on 8/26/2003). Have been unable to find this Dread Wraith listed in any bestiary.
He also dropped a Ruined Scaled Cape and a Ruined Scaled Visor. Don't have the stats on them at the moment (at work), but will post them when I get home. It ranges with the other Ruined Scaled stuff, nothing big.
And just hope it looks cool =p Sure I will hit stuff with it....its not a terrible weapon, although weighty polearm is a superior choice once the stats are less red, this would be reasonable up to 45ish.
But still..the main reason I am getting it is the hope it looks cool :DD
Actually, this isn't that bad of a Weapon. People could use it for different reasons.
1) Its Pretty fast delay as far as 2Handers go. Infact it has almost the exact same ratio as MoSS which many SK's Use.
2) The Fast Delay is good for Skill Raising in 2HS
3) Dmg/Dly isn't that bad. It is almost exactly proportionate to that of Argent Defender (33/49), which is actually quite decent.
Yeah Yeah, if I really had a choice, id get Abrams Axe of the Stoice. Great Dmg/Dly, +15 Sta, Invigor, Resists and its generally less than 1k on my server. Unfortunately im a Dark-Elf and can't use it.
actually, with 2handers you want the highest delay weapon you can find with the same ratio (high delay = greater dmg bonus, so you actually get more dps out of the same ratio) but of course speed is nice for raising skill and ya gotta use something til you can get a high delay good ratio 2h weapon
This is an awesome low level blade, as 1) damage bonus doesn't hit until lvl 28, and 2) there is a damage cap until 20, that limits your weapon effectiveness to essentially the equivalent of a 14 damage weapon. So for a char who is focusing primarily on 2hs, this is the prefect weapon to use up to lvl 28. Also great for skilling up 2HS at any level!
I am new to EQ and have started an SK. I see a lot of SK's sayin they use a MoSS. What is it? I have been trying to find out but have been unable to find anything that deals damage. I would appreciate any help
i dont see why this wep would be any good. As a monk, i am using a 30 dmg 35 dly wep, and its cheap (700-900pp) i understand that this is not a monk wep, but the ratio is not very good.
Dammit Sorry. What is the price of these things these days? I use MoSS and SBS, but I will need to start using 2HS so im looking for a decent cheap one, preferably below 2k. Ive thought of this, DarkEdged 2Hander, Blade of Xalgoz, and Argent Defender. If it is below 2k Id really like this one, but whatever goes.
this is definitely below 2k... bought one today for 200pp, but if you want something a little cheaper go with the argent defender, i have both but personally im hitting for the same as the defender but much faster ( dmg cap and all )
Wow a sk that admits that a pally can out do them at pvp... hehehe didn't know they made those! FYI>>>War WIL OUTDO both pally and sk in malee due to the higher weapon skill they get.
Here r my comments on the almighty pvp as a pk fiend on tallon zek!>>>>>>
In pvp pally vs sk> pally should win. Aye sk deal a nice amount of dmg w/ dots nukes and lifetap but w/ the self buffs heals (dont get decent heals til the 100hp heal then at 39 300hp) PLUS LAY HANDS!!! One of the biggest elements of pvp is being able to outlast your apponents attaks.
In pvp pally vs casters> even w/ low resist a pally can own casters w/ the 3 stuns they get. Step 1:root Step 2:get up in their jello Step 3:stun like crazy! stun even if they resist because it will still interrupt the casts. Throw heals at yourself when needed.
In pvp pally vs malee> Root, stun, joust, heal.. nough said.
OK now the two most dangerous classes (the only ones I avoid in pvp are Shammies and BARDS)
Bards are probibly the best pvp class in the game. You can't kill them... if u do u r uber or lucky. They slow snare dot. Selo, haste, aqnd resist buffs themselves! GERRR i've been kited by bards. At low lvl's they get owned but so do enchanters, after 30 its a whole new game! Shammies will debuff u while the dog bites your ancles away then hit u w/ some nasty dots. Half the time u r blind or rooted and cant touch 'em.
Oh yea... nother cool thing about bards Shorts cant be 'um muahahahaha!
Gl pallies and sk. We r the same in too many ways and underestimated equally...
For the record, my main is a druid, i have a troll SK, i play on Tallon Zek
The argument is completely off base here. Shadow Knights are not damage dealers. They are killer PKers and can hold mad agro thx to dots, fear, snare, etc.
Warriors are not damage dealers either. They are the most DURABLE class. with spells and pet, a SK will equal a warriors damage... but any monk, rogue, ranger, shaman, druid, wizard, necro, mage, and even a charming bard or chanter will outdamage. I probably forgot someone... but chances are unless they are a paladin (which are great anti-casters and emergency healers and only good pvp vs casters post 50) or a cleric, they will most likely OUTDAMAGE the SHADOWKNIGHT.
If you made a shadowknight to deal damage, thinking you will mow thru mobs, you are wrong. You will either keep the mobs from mowing through your group. You will keep mobs running so you can slowly hack them down. SKs are great and quite useful in many situations, but just forget about dealing damage.
As for this weapon, I like it because it's low dmg/dly was better during cap then say Throneblade of the Ykesha. I like the saves because it's pvp and saves = god. I like the mana because I'm a troll. I like the look of it because it looks like a butcher's cleaver and I'm always hungry.
Grow up and see the good in things WITHOUT yer stupid egos getting in the way.
Blah a druid who has an alt sk. Sks are damage dealers just as all melees are. And with a decent 2hander, a haste item, and pet they can do enough damage to put them below monks but above warriors and pallies. Through a couple pts in speed of the knight and knights adv and watch the bodies hit the floor. So ok were not rogues or rangers but the BEST DPS of the plate classes.
For the sake of comparison: <<<Ornate Rune Blade>>> Max Damage: 107.35 Damage/Delay Ratio: Destructive (0.633) Max Attack Speed: Very Fast (16.666) Weapon Performance: Excellent (11.35)
<<<Drakkel Icereaver>>> Proc Level: 30 Max Damage: 135.6 Damage/Delay Ratio: Destructive (0.6) Max Attack Speed: A Bit Slow (22.222) Weapon Performance: Excellent (10.2)
<<<Arbitor's Combine Greatsword>>> Max Damage: 169.5 Damage/Delay Ratio: Destructive (0.697) Max Attack Speed: A Bit Slow (23.888) Weapon Performance: Excellent (11.372)
ACG +15 WIS and +25 mana is nice and DIR proc is nice, but for combat I would choose the Ornate Rune Blade because of the attack speed. Your getting a lot more swings in which means a lot more chances for double hits.
FYI, Ghoulbane is a situational weapon, Fighting undead is where you use it, got high dex mr paladin? got Ghoulbane? got shammy dex buff? got your 240+ weapon proc spell Instrument of Nife cast on Ghoulbane have you sir? well then sir you use your 1hs. Fact, period. I know I use it all the time V undead. Soloing Undead Dark blue i walk away with a bub and half on a good fight, evens are scary but still do able if you get spook off or root. Rarely use LoH. This is at lvl 50. Also to the guy who posted about Nathsar, yup it is a good wep for it's price, ok delay ok dmg +10 str is sweet. Flame away, runs like rain off my back.
"And tell me Sir Knight, In truth what do you believe?" "It is not what I believe It is what I am, Never Leave a Brother to Die, Honour above all else, Last to flee when foes too numerous, Dignity when my time to Fall comes, If I adhere to this then a Knight I am"
I traded my old mitheral 2h and some neck piece for this and I have to say I like the stats, but everybody is laughing at the damage I'm doing with this at lvl 39 lol would it be worth getting a trade for an arbitor's combine especially considering that I am a half elf paladin in desperate need of wisdom?
Today i traded an extra pair of mithril greaves i aquired and 500pp for this and a Nathsar Greatsword- a weapon I feel is sorely underpraised, be honest with u 17 30 +10str is not that bad a weapon, but it only sells for 500pp on drinal...go figure, and Black Pantherskin legs cost 6k, get your prices right people...
Anyhow, considering i am gonna try and get my 2hs maxed from 138 now, these rock. I am also the guy that traded my Venomous Axe of the velium Brood and GBS for Defiance and non-LORE Centi LS- King of Trades ---Peace :) 41 ranger Dragon Ring lives inside of me-just ask
Black pantherskin legs cost 6k because they never go trivial. Tailoring is VERY time consuming to raise due to the fact that you can't just walk into town and buy 200 pelts. Black panther skins drop off of one out of every 7 or so black panthers, and even at 250 tailoring, it may take upwards of 10 attempts to make a single piece of black pantherskin (or any other Velious tailored armor). This means you may have to kill as many as 70 black panthers just to get the pelts nessessary for one successful combine. Add to that the frustration of finding rare ground spawn leaves, then brewing a tannin from those leaves, which requires 68 brewing skill. THEN you have to have velium bonings, which cost a MINIMUM of 50pp EACH. So, for 10 attempts, you're looking at killing 70 black panthers, finding 10-15 ground spawn yew leaves to make the 10 yew leaf tannins from, spending 1500pp on Coldain Temper (assuming no failures on those) and another 300 on Velium Bricks if you don't farm your own.
I think someone who invests 4+ months of skill raising, 7+ hours of component farming, and 1800pp has every right to ask 6k for the ONE resulting item that he gets from that effort.
OK, here we go. An opportunity for people to flame and rant and rave like they know what they're talking about.
What I have found, in my experience only (disclaimer for all the morons looking for an excuse to argue), is that your weapon choice SHOULD depend upon your situation.
Currently, as a 52 DE SK, I carry a MoSS and Ashenbone Shield, and an Ornate Rune Blade.
When I am alone or with a group where I may be considered the main tank, I use the MoSS and the shield. Why? Because I want the extra AC and HP and bashing ability provided by the shield.
However, when I am on guild hunts or with a group where I will NOT be the main tank, I will use the Ornate Rune Blade mainly because of the damage bonus.
As a side note, for you people arguing about tanks and sk's etc, read carefully....
In upper level raids, your main tank may or may not be the one with the best AC OR most HP OR most damage. There are many things that need to be considered when selecting your MA. Yes, AC, HP and damage need to be taken into consideration, but taunting ability is also one of them. Your ideal MA is one with a great AC, lots of HP, deals great damage AND has the ability to keep a mob aggro'd on him so healers can concentrate on one person to keep alive. In most of the cases I have seen, your highest level warrior will be one of the best choices for MA. Lots of HP, good AC, good damage, and with the right weapons, great taunting. No, he might not have the most HP, or the best AC, or the most damage, but more often than not, this combination of things makes him the best candidate for MA.
I agree totally. As a paladin I keep a wurmie and shield along with a centi warspear. I use the wurmie when against caster mobs or against hard hitting mobs, and the spear is great for dealing plenty of damage and also taunts like crazy coupled with my self haste spell, just keep on hitting.
Nice weap to use to get you're 2hs up because of the delay. I've found that with the more swings u get, you'll skill up faster. Sk's should be using MoSS and shield or a fast 1hs and shield. That is until higher lvls or epic. I currently use Noc and shield at lvl 45, excellent dmg.

This is just a little bit obvious but doesn't the term "Damage Dealer" mean "One who deals damage." I don't know if I just blew in from stupid town or what but all classes are able to deal damage. Yes we all know SKs don't do a whole lot of damage, but with a decent 2hander and the proper AA abilities SKs can do a whole lot of damage.
Put aside the misguided newbs and the bloated twinks and you have those of us who just work freakin hard for this stuff. I just attained lvl 50 and i worked my *** off for this weapon. Sorry but cash is not my obsession and i give away practically all armor and such that i have upgraded from (with the exception of my weapons). I am hunting in Karnors and let me just say this weapon is dope for a warrior. Plain and simple, flame away, while i hack you to pieces.
I aquired one of these on a COM Raid recently. I got to roll on it, due to it being an upgreade on the Mith 2hs i was using. I sold My Arbitors Great Combine to buy an fbss, to go with this sword. I have read stats that the Arbitors & the Ornate have the same damage output, with and without an fbss. I like the stat boosts of the Ornate better & I like the speed. With my fbss, & a chanter speed, i have no problem maintaining aggro on mobs that are blue to me, I can even aggro the mob off of the warrier, if his hp are low & a heal is slow in coming! I am questing now for the Paladin Divine Might spell, which will add a 60dd proc to any attack i use, including the Ornate. It is the fastest, 2hs that I would consider using, until i get one of those 32/35 velious weapons(Slower but the damage will be Godlike). Fast means more procs. I regularlt hit in the 50's & 60's with this Baby & rarely in the 70's. I very much prefer this over the Mith 2hs or the Arbitors. Get Over the arguements of which class is better, Paladin/Warrier/Shadow Knight. When we all play our Class Well, we all contribute to a highly successful team. I have never Lost a duel to either class if I have LOH up(& if we are reasonably the same level). I don't win without it!
