There used to be a GM-driven quest to undo it, IIRC. I don't remember the last time I actually saw a non-auction mule toon do it on a regular server.
my friend made me PvP once as a joke, this was back in like '02, i dont know if there is a quest. Personally, I had to petition and get a GM to undo it for me.

I don't understand how anybody could actually want to turn this in. I mean other then traders wanting to have there name stand out, nobody really uses this.
I actually couldn't stand any of the pvp aspects of eq. I tried 2 of the pvp servers and all I seen was cheap shots and casters picking on defenseless melee's. I won't even go into the server that allows 65's to camp level 6's in newbie zones.

Actually on some servers there are whole guilds in which everyone has a red name, with people right up to 65 who have had red names from level 1. When I used to play on Brell Serellis there was a fairly large red-name guild there and back when I first started EQ in 2000 red names were pretty common.
I also have met several people who had handed in the book deliberately to prevent people buffing them so that they could play completely untwinked even by "drive-by" buffs.

Ok so does this mean if you do this quest it will be like a pvp server for all who do the quest.

To all who want to do pvp on a non pvp server ....DON'T DO IT!!! It is quite a pain to you when noone can cast buffs or heals on you and to answer the afore mentionted no you will not be able to kill other people at will. It only allows you to attack other people who have the pvp flag like yourself. Otherwise it is the worst thing one could do to themselves. Also if you decide to become pvp you can have it removed by a GM as long as you petition for it. I had it once and found out the hard way so a warning to all who don't know it severely effects playability. It's harder to be in a group when you cant be healed or buffed. Good luck to anyone brave enough to try.

my suggestion, however, if you're gonna turn in the book, be prepared for a life of soloing =P because personally on a bluebie server, i wouldn't want to have anyone in my group who couldn't be healed or buffed by anyone other than themselves. gogo dr00d powa!... or necro... or bard... or... well you get the idea =P
