Hey i'm a pali i saw a courier and didn't know it was for monk quest. but it had a magic wepon called goblin skinner(which sucks)like 7/41. it also had a iksar left hand, oops
If you have a skill that you get at level 1 then you can eventually work it up from skill 0 by practicing, like sense heading noted below, but if your class/race doesn't have a skill period (like 1hs for a cleric or say riposte for an enchanter) then you can never get your skill up no matter how hard you try. If you have no class skill with a weapon then your effectiveness (read: atk stat) with it will be based entirely upon your offensive skill as opposed to a proficient weapon where your effectiveness is based on your offensive skill + that weapon's skill.
There are many weapons in the game that are equipable by a class which doesn't possess any skill in that weapon, some examples are the dark reaver/necro or kodiak claws/monk mentioned above along with the glowing wooden crook/bard, mage summoned staves/rogue and many others, it's just a programming oversight on the game designer's part with a mild coolness factor for whatever class can walk around weilding such a weapon if they wish.
That depends on what you mean by use. for example, necros can use 2hs (dark reaver) but they can't raise their skill with it.Anyway, monks are much more effective with their fists.
If you don't have a skill, you can't raise it. If a skill is usable without training, you can raise it to 1. I'm not sure about skills like meditate, dodge, etc if they can be raised to 1 without training, but I do know that a cleric can never have the 1hs skill.
Not really, you see, some classes CAN use this item. Like on Kodiak Claws, they say Monks can use them, and they can, it's just that they can't train in the skill. The must gradually get better at it w/o training in it. So I bet that these classes can use it, just not as effectivly as the others who can train in 1HS
