My Necro may be oly level 20 but...Epic aside...WHY THE HELL would I want to carry a god damn duck on a stick??? hell...I wouldnt want to carry this if they made it 100mana, 20vsMagic 30Int with a Charm undead clickable and a lifetap proc...its just STUPID...IMHO

P.S. So sue me if my Necro is still a lowbie, like I said...in my opinion...Cmon Verant, the duck is a slap in the face and you know it...Try a irridecent black staff with a crimson blade affixed to the top...now THERE is an epic worth spending 50+ levels and some to get...

Stats :
22/34 1hb - Ok, nice ratio - I dont mind melee some to keep my pet alive at certain times, and when farming bonechips hehe ;). But nevertheless, we arent supposed to inflict damage and the DMG22/DEL34 is just stats, look at the harvester, not fighting at all with that. So with this we can atleast kill the greenies that attack us while medding. Ex how many hasnt wasted a 400mana spell on a puma?

STR 5 - The more the better - The more I can carry, the happier I am.

STA 10 - Trivial - Well, not that much hp extra, not that important but hey, why not?

INT 20 - Great! - At this lvl 20 int as 1h. Woohoo that mean i can replace my earrings for resist/mana. Hate when ignorant people complains since we already maxed out int at this lvl..yes we have, did that at 30, and since then i have been looking for more int so I can replace my stuff for resist/mana

CHA 5 - Not sure - Have so much different information about cha when fearing/charming.

MR 10% - Nice - The more the better.

Fire/Cold 5% - Nice - Same as above, the more the better.
Poison/Disease 15% - Nice - Repeating myself, the more the better.

HP 20 - Bad - In relation to most 1hand items 40+, this is pathetic. But then HP, atleast some in this case.

Mana 80 - Great - Might be that extra mana for that last fear/feign death that is needed in that time.

Effect Torment of Shadows - Nice/Poor - Saves that mana when not resisted. But I can't say how much resisted it gets, since I just started my epic. I would like to see it at a faster cast time.

Oki, This is probably the hardest Epic, but then if a Epic were an easy quest, why bother. To wield an epic weapon is the ultimate way to show everyone that you are a true necromancer.

Seams everyone has an opinion Good or Bad and is adamant in their stance. For those below 45ish, it may look like a godsend, but by the time you are able to acquire it, it looks more like a joke.(litterally)

First, the GOOD :
Individually, the stats suck, but when viewed as a whole, on a single item, they are Quite impressive.

The +20 int means that you can swap out several pieces of INT gear for Resist/AC gear.

It is <functionally> weightless. Weight 5.0, STR +5.

The entire quest yields an incredible ammount of experience.

Questing this will keep a bored character busy for a Looong time. ;)


Now, the BAD :
22/34 1hb - Useless - Excelent ratio, but casters after 50 who melee are either farming greens, bought their account on EBay and don't know any better, or are just plain stupid. :P

STR 5 - Unimportant - In the time it takes to do this quest (assuming you have a full team just waiting to help you) you can easily get enough cash to buy 8 tinkers bags.

STA 10 - Trivial - helps you hold your breath longer I suppose, but we have DMF anyway.[the HP boost by this is microscopic]

INT 20 - Trivial - If you don't already have 200 INT without this, you probably arent adequately equipped to Get it.

CHA 5 - Trivial - Only use for CHA a necro has is getting better prices with vendors. [No it does NOT effect NPC reactions or fear, these are both myths]

MR 10% - Fair - OK, Cant argue that MR is good for 30+ regardless of class.

Fire/Cold 5% - Poor - If you are fighting mobs with spells based on these (i.e. dragons) you want MORE than 5 in every slot anyway.

Poison/Disease 15% - Poor - May be more useful when Plane of Decay is opened.

HP 20 - Poor - In relation to most 1hand items 40+, this is pathetic.

Mana 80 - Great/Poor - depends how true the mana cap rumor is.

Effect Torment of Shadows - Poor - Darkness spells get 2 resists, and 9 second cast from an item?! Only useful for pulling stationary mobs since mobiles will be out of range by the time it's cast.

Obtainability - Attrocious - The other epics are of aid to a group/guild. This one however only benifits the user. Finding adequate numbers to obtain this, even with a lot of friends, will be VERY difficult.

Worst of all, We're NECROMANCERS!! Vile, Evil, Masters of the Undead. A ducky on a stick with cute lil bubbles comming out is the single biggest Insult Verant ever gave us!

Summary :
Compared to the other Epics, this is the worst. It is harder to get, yet the resist stats are lower, the effect laughable in comparison, and will not benifit anyone but the user, so finding a team to acquire it is going to be next to impossible.

In itself, it is an incredible item.(if it IS a slap in the face by it's appearance)

A long cycle lifetap/leech or AE Fear would be more suitable.

The resists should be on par with the other Epics (+10vsAll for the bards' for example) and they NEED TO CHANGE THE GRAPHICS! =(

Umm never seen one but after hearing all the references to it lookinglike a duck im almost willing to go make a necro and live it until i get this =)

I mean, who cares about a weapon for a Necro, but if it looks like a duck... man. Think not about the people taunting you for carrying a ducka round, think instead of those people when you WHACK em with the duck until they flee ;)

Makes it all worh while...

And I'm not really that suprised either. As epics go, this one is very hard and the reward is awful.

Most casters could care less what the stats are, they want the look and the effect. Guess what? Damn near no one likes the look or the effect.

It just doesn't compare with an uber pet, uber augment, or even a free rune+light mana regen. (Staff of the four [wiz] does look very cool though. In my opinion the best of the pure caster epics)

im sorry to all those who are moaning about this staff. personally if you didn't want a challenge to get a weapon like this. you shouldn't have made a necro. at the little descriptioin when you first made your char. almost every race necro was classified as a HIGH DIFFICULTY. your a hard class to play thats what makes them fun. what other class can you go around with a pile o bones kill anything you want and not care about faction cept in 1 city. necros can. we got our faithful pets our nasty spells. what more can you want. as for the graphic. ive seen it. it looks cool. and the effect well think about this. its probly resisted as much as our other darkness line. which isn't that much. it frees up a spell slot for another spell that is usefull you can actually melee with it. and you can replace several int items with mana items when you get this. so stop moaning about the stats and its graphic and play your class because its fun or quite and play somethin else. sorry for the rant for those who actually realize its a good weapon, and worth the time to get.

ok the staff may be a let down compared ta some classes but its still kickass

Would someone kindly post a link to where i could have a peek at the duck staff? (screen shot please) I don't play a necro or anything, but i'm curious as to whats all the fuss is about and no one seems to have this weapon on Mith Marr yet. I have looked at every EQ site I know of and still havent seen a ss of this thing.

Why is the Scythe a 1 handed blunt weapon? Is it just the haft or something? I dont get it! A scythe has a big blade and ya know has those little grip posts for 2 hands . ..
