I realize these posts are really old but just in case anyone is doing the quest, I wanted to post my encouragements.

First, Hope Stones do NOT drop off level 75+ mobs they drop off trash experience mobs in the elemental planes.

Second, after you complete step four, you can do up to step three over and keep the ring. I have the earring and re made the ring and know a few other people that remade to the earring (so they have the Signet of the Arcane and the one before it---not a bad ear in its own right). Then you can still re make the ring.

Lots of ear drops in new zones are better, but none make me prouder.

Thanks to the new Tradeskill Window it's not that bad getting to 250 now. It's also a nice idea if you do the Coldain Shawl quest before hand, like Aid Grimmels quest it works on all your Tradeskills taking them to just under 200.

This is a great reserve item for the effect and fights against casters.

But as usual, sony does nothing for us. /sigh...

jdommer there should be plenty of people using this due to how the quest that turns it in is near impossible to do. Take a look at it. You have to max out 7 different craft skills all yourself!

While maxing out all tradeskills is not easy, it is by far from impossible. Multiple people on Bertox did it over 9 months ago (first time I remember someone completing all to 250) so there is bound to be tons more with all max tradeskills. I will become one of those people someday too as I have just broken 150 in all tradeskills apx 1 hour ago /cheer and I am by far a casual player who isn't uber or rich or bought plat, I just farmed like a druid on crystal meth, and didn't sell a ton of items that could be used for skill ups. Getting the flags won't be impossible at 65 either, the hardest part I see coming is spending 18 AA in tradeskills when there is so many other things to spend it in, and maybe tailoring to 250, just because nothing sucks as bad tailoring.

Hehe... getting 18 AA points at 65 will NOT be hard AT ALL. Trust me :)

Now this is a ring worth having .... +5 to resists 65 mana and HP AND it's an EB item to boot not to mention high AC for a ring .... wish I was any good at jewelcraft

You probably will not see anyone wearing this ring, as it is used to as a quest turn in item to get a better one. The final result from this quest series is:

https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=20379

25 to all stats, 15 to all resists, 130 HP 150 mana......+3 mana per tick, and 15% mana reduction on ALL spells in the game.

Melee classes get a similiar ring that has a HP regen instead of the mana regen, and a dodge modifier.

https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=20380

As far as your jewelcraft......you'll have to get 250 skill in 2 OTHER tradeskills (requires being level 51 and doing New Tanaan AA) before even trying to do this, not to mention you might need some PoP flags before NPCs will talk to you.

Before you start spending your cash on tradeskills, keep in mind that you will also have to loot a no drop item off of a level 75 or so boss mob in an elemental plane to complete this quest, in addition to having 250 skill in all tradeskills AND all the necessary flags to get Aid Grimel to give your the quest.

I would put my name here, but I play on PVP

Yes and no. This ring requires only the first 3 steps. JC and brewing are, frankly, very easy to grandmaster with a little bit of time and cash. For people who have (or choose to get) 220+ smithing, this isn't a bad item, even if you have no intention of furthering the quest. Also, it IS useful insofar as being an Enduring Breath item with decent stats [yay Reef of Corinav!] - I, as well as several others in my guild, intend to redo the quest to this point again following its completion (well ... its completion the 2nd time, as we all intend to wear the last and next-to-last earrings, at least until we kick better off Tier 4+ bosses).

The only caveat I give to multi-tradeskillers doing this quest for the ring without having the resources to reach the elemental planes is that this part of the quest still requires several flags. Notable, you must have the flags from Bertoxxulous, Terris Thule, and Saryrn in order to be given the components for this item.
