Want even cheaper picnics?
# Jun 24 2008 at 2:36 PM Rating: Decent
Looking for really cheap picnics? Can’t make them yourself, or just don’t want to? Keep an eye on npc venders in the areas where trade-skillers are likely to dump them. If you find a stash take the time to stock up. Tell your friends. Don’t have room on one toon? Use the bank of another. One lucky find could set up all your toons in picnics for the next year.

The best price I’ve ever seen in the bazaar is 2plat each. (lately they are up more often from between 5-10. Well, a little over 2plat is about what you pay for a Whole Stack from an npc. Rivervale, Pok near the ovens, and Abysmal baking supply merchants are the most common locations. I even found a cache of nearly 2000 at a camp in South Ro. So take a moment to check whenever you pass those likely areas and keep your eyes open even in unlikely places.

Selling cheaply bought picnics is also a great way for newbies to make a little plat. Buy as many stacks as you can at 2plat... then if you're lucky and patient you might just sell them each for 200plat. Not a bad turn-around at all.

Just check the current prices in your server before you stock-up. Things may change from time to time... scratch that... things will change...

Many Thanks and More Misty info (including baz tips)
# Jun 24 2008 at 2:12 PM Rating: Decent
I can’t wait to try this in the future… I’ve just been running back and forth between venders and zones when some sub-combine or other runs out. This looks like a great guide, and thank you.

My only tips to add would be to load up all the combines into favorite recipes as you go. Makes even my cluttered method, as unorganized as it is, a breeze to handle.

And I pretty much stayed in Pok to do them, I just kept a big supply of JumJum in the bank so I wouldn’t have to zone very often.

Personally I wouldn’t use picnics to get through the early 200 range in skill points tho.

If you do patty melts in Abysmal to get close to 200… then just stick around a bit and fish for crab and tuna there to do the recipes that get you to the mid 200s, your trophy will be evolving the whole time. Won’t be long before the skill mod matches the tinkered stuff and by the mid 200s, that’s when my trophy hit an 8% mod which helped a lot for the last push. I used picnics to go on and max the trophy as well. If you don’t have your trophy, get one quick. The sooner you do, the lower your skill lvl when you do the task, the easier they are to attain. Especially if you are skilling-up with a low lvl character. You don’t want to be sent off to a lvl 50 zone to get some item for your trophy task when you’re at lvl 15. After doing the freebie or collect baking quest in Abysmal, that’s 50-something in skill lvl when your done with it, that’s the perfect time to go test for the trophy in Freeport.

Skilling with picnics will leave you with a lot of picnics to unload. NPC’s will give you a little for them… so dumping on them is a quick and easy option. But it was easy to unload them all through my trader as I went too. I ended up with a nice little chunk of plat in the end.

I keep a trader up most of the time when I’m not playing or using the computer for other things. You don’t have to have a dedicated trading toon to trade, just a toon you don’t plan to use for awhile who also has a half-empty bank. Try to be honest in your trading and you won’t have to worry about hiding behind an anonymous mule to avoid backlash. I maintain 8-16 trader satchels on all my toons even if they are not typically used to trade with, the satchels are 10 slot so work nicely for standard storage anyway. Just keep in mind you can’t move the satchels through the shared bank or drop/trade them. I use the banks of the toons I’m not using often to store the bulk of them until the trader runs out of her supply. I refuse to sell picnics below 5plat, there is no need. As long as you can stay up often enough and for long enough stretches, say while you’re at work or sleeping, you will unload them. Even with hundreds standing in competition. Give it a few days or nights and you’ll have moved a good few hundred at least. Especially if you try on the weekend.

Lately the price stands at 10plat for long stretches and they move just as readily at that price as they do at 5 and less. If you have them, you want to put up 100 at a time at least. A lot of people buy that many or more in a go. I never put up more than one full satchel at a time though, mainly because I have other things I need to keep up and move out too. Besides, I work at home and can usually check occasionally and re-supply them if they sold. Even though I only putt up around 100 I still have no trouble moving them when others have hundreds more up at the same price. So if that’s what you see when you ‘trader-up’… Don’t Panic.

If you want to keep them moving steadily just keep matching the lowest reasonable baz price. Don’t bother to undercut the other sellers, they WILL notice and respond in kind. Prices plummet, you still haven’t sold your inventory, and congratulations, you’ve now cut your own profit. Be patient, observant and smart, and you’ll really make trader mode pay off much better for you. Your time and the wear you’re putting on your computer is worth something isn’t it?

There is almost always competition when selling picnics, it’s no big deal. Keep with the best price, and keep your head, and you will sell them. You’ll need to unload thousands of these very likely and any way you look at it that will take time if you’re selling them in the bazaar. It’s in your best interest to think big-picture when it comes to picnics. Long-term. If the price plummets, just pull the picnics until it’s reasonable again, sell off something else that’s in your way. You’re better off when you diversify anyway. Picnics can be a steady money-maker but not a big-money maker, not in the short term. But they are a fine reliable product to help keep a little trickle of plat coming in while you wait for bigger ticket items to sell.

A further update:
Jumjum purchased from vendor Daleen Leafsway, pickup from ground spawn, and or dropped from Nillipus all work.

The drops do not stack with vendor sold jumjum. However, once converted into a product (like the jumjum salad) then it will stack with any other of the same finished product.

Hope this helps a bit.

# Oct 03 2004 at 1:46 PM Rating: Decent
I'm just a level 16 Druid, and I finally was able to make the 4 Misty Thicket Picnics this morning. It took me about a week because of my low level. Are there any other low level characters that have made the MT picnic? My wisdom is just 123, my baking is 152. But I was able to make it on my 10th try! Guess I got lucky. The hardest part was getting the brownie parts to make the winter chocolate and then making the cake. Found them from looting the Brownie Scouts in Greater Faydark. My character is Dennydore, I'm on the Innoruuk server. I've now got 3 MT picnic baskets for sale!

Since this item stacks, if you have 20 in your first food slot, does that mean you get 1000 mana?

Kinda doubt it, but nice thought.....

OK. New tradeskill interface is up. Tried this combine 100 times and finally succeeded on 91. Got message that I had learned a new recipe so I went to check it out and do quick combines. Stinking trivial is listed as 335 for this combine. OUCH! Explains the failure rate on them though.

Failure Rate
# Jul 19 2003 at 3:44 PM Rating: Decent
This item has an insanely high failure rate, roughly 65%-70% from what I have seen. I am a 250 baker with GM trophy and I can get this to work about 1 in 4 or 1 in 5 tries with 320 Wis. If you're doing this to raise your skill don't bother. Jord Meat pies, Vann Toe stew, and Boar chops are faster.

MISTY PICNIC NIGHTMARES
# Dec 04 2002 at 3:04 AM Rating: Default
I attempted 200 combinations with this nightmare of a craft item. My baking skill increased from 191 to 193 and i was only successful at making 4 combines for a total of 16 picnics.....

once again, EQ makes a fun skill tedious and UNREWARDING.....

WASTE OF TIME unless the success rate gets any better.

There was a GM Event on Vasaelle in GFay just last night, where the first three winners were given these as rewards, the 1st place person got 10 of these and 10 Miraculous Drinks ( dont remember which ones). My buddy got 3rd place and took 1 of these with 5 of the drinks. Not a bad reward I'd say.

Don't eat your stats food. Yes, you must keep it in the first food slot to gain the stats, but if you eat the food, you loose the stats. Just force feed yourself while keeping your stat foods in place. You'll never need to buy a stack of these. Buy one and a stack of fish rolls to force feed.
RE: Don't eat it!
# Sep 06 2002 at 11:03 PM Rating: Decent
The worst thing is when you get all involved in a battle or whatnot and you suddenly realize you had forgotten to chomp on some roots or fish rolls, and you've just licked the last of your sweet stat food from your gooey fingers.

RE: Don't eat it!

Phooey. Buy up a few stacks of something else that lasts a long time, then force feed yourself on that until you get the "Cannot eat any more" message. You'll go a LONG time before you risk eating up the good stuff. I use Iron Rations and mark every 45 minutes to an hour to "chow down." Buddy gave me 5 Frost Giant steaks back when that recipe first went in with stat boosts, and they're still all there thanks to this method :)
RE: Don't eat it!
# Sep 20 2002 at 1:45 PM Rating: Decent
The total irony here is that I was leading an epic raid this past week and realized just as we finished and ported out that I had totally ignored my foodstuff for hours. Normally I do force-feed myself but due to the circumstances I wasn't even paying attention to foraging and... I actually ate my one Misty Thicket Picnic.
/sigh Smiley: cry
As everyone has noted, it does eventually get used up. Yeah, it had been in there a good while already, but I had to laugh at the irony.

RE: Crazy Price
# Jun 24 2008 at 3:18 PM Rating: Decent
/agree (belatedly)

But I’ve seen it at 2 and 3 plat often over the years… I've never seen it moving at 25, these days 25plat for picnics is only a traders dream… Difficulty isn’t the key factor, this is a common skill-up recipe. So price in this case has nothing to do with value, trivial or even the hassle factor. People have to make a huge amount in order to skill up… even more commonly now I suspect… and in the jostle and hysteria to sell and sell quick, the price is often depressed even though demand is still constant. That is why picnics go now for between 5-10plat each and Crab Legs can go for 300 each. People don’t have to make crab legs to skill-up… so they don’t. Picnics move much faster than crab legs though… so they still can be well worth the bother of trading in when you're stuck with thousands to unload.

Misty Thicket Picnic

Do you gain the effects of this item by simply carrying it in container, or does it have to be in an inventory slot by itself, or consumed?

It is amazing how many people don't understand how food placement works.

In your inventory you have promary slots 1-8 Slot #1 is the upper left slot. Put your plus stats food in that slot and you will gain the bonus and you will automatically consume the food/beverage as needed.

Most people put their food in a bag. I recommend putting that bag in slot one and put the food that you want to consume first in the #1 slot. You will aautomatically eat the food in the first slot, when that is exhausted it will move to the next slot (Second from the top, and so on)

You do not have to click on the food to eat it to gain the bonus.

The only difference is Alcohol. You have to consume it by clicking on it. You cannot automatically consume the hard stuff.

#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 29 2002 at 4:45 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) just like all edible items (unless there is one out there I haven't yet met) it must be eaten. RE: Misty Thicket Picnic
# Aug 29 2002 at 5:59 PM Rating: Excellent
to gain the bonuses from this item as all food items, you must equip it as the first food item n your inventory. Items in your inventory start in the top left and work down. This is the same for any bags you may have. The problem is that as it is the first food item it will be the first consumed due to hunger, even if you have other rations on you. You can work round this by making sure you force eat some ordinary food before you get humgry and eat the next slot available.
